Sain took a breath of fresh air and sighed, he looked at the camps and saw that there were many young soldiers that were training and looked like they we're enjoying it. "At least morals are good" Sain said. "Soldiers!!!!" The Soldiers turned "Yes? Lord Sain?" "There are bandits in sacace, they are raising a small army worth of them, I need several soldiers to help me take them out." Sain pointed at several soldiers."You 3 come with me, that is all" "Only three?" The soldiers asked another said "We mustn't underestimate Lord Sain and his abilities"

Matthias continued wandering the hallways aimlessly, wondering exactly what was going on. The palace itself was in full force, as though someone really important had just returned from fighting. He glanced around, and noticed the wealth of the palace. Sain sure had it good here, whatever he did. The archer was just about to enter another hallway, when he heard voices whispering...
OoC: three things: Sain, don't get rid of your old Iron Axe. Someone might be able to use it, you never know. Second: I was wondering if I could have Matthias run into traitiors. There's always traitors everywhere, and someone's probably working with Bern. Third: how do we handle NPCs? You know, those random soldiers who serve one purpose: to divert fire from the important people.

"So... That's the Ostian palace..." It was a sight to behold, and undoubtedly filled with riches. Looking down at his newly swiped bag, he was filled with confidence from his previously successful romp. Even though he assumed that girl was still after her, he was sure he had gained at least SOME distance.
And, there was a castle in front of him. He figured there'd be some sort of treasures in there, that he could most definitely swipe for himself. He was a thief. It wasn't that hard to add the ones together.
Besides, who'd expect a single thief to infiltrate the castle. Right? Right...?
He thought so too. So, he made his way closer to the castle, surveying the surroundings. Noticing a few (NPC n00b) guards, he decided that he wouldn't go after them, rather wait until the right time to sneak.... in.... NOW!
From the guise of the bushes, he ran into the castle hopefully without being seen. Now it was a matter of looking innocent. Like he belonged. He walked briskly to the castle, blowing off any guards he came by. Of course, if he ran into someone, he'd be straight up dead, but... He didn't plan on getting caught.

Sain continued to escort the troops and ran into a theif (Kyo)(OoC: Ironic aint it ) and said "What the heck are you doing here!!! Who are you?!" then he thought if this guy got this far without having getting caught, then he must be really good Sain brought his axe down by the thief and said "You have two choices, lose your hands to the law, or join me. Now choose!!!"

Matthias stopped, one foot raised above a panel. He pointed towards the treasury.
"I heard something coming from that room in there... I think that someone's in there." he said. He stopped moving, and strained to hear the whispering. Apparently, whoever had been doing the shouting had been distracted by the shouting of Sain. Heck, Matthias wouldn't want to stick around if Sain came bellowing in at him.
OoC: I want to fight something! Hence, the notice about traitors. My idea: we discover that some Ostian guards have been working for Bern, and sent information that the Lord Sain has returned. The guards then team up with a bunch of bandits to try and assassinate the returned lord. Naturally, a certain meddling thief will get caught in the fracas ^.^
"Hey, while you're here, perhaps you can..." he thought he heard something else in the hallway, in the opposite direction of the trapped treasury. Reminding himself to check the treasury out later, Matthias headed for the noise, hoping Sain followed him, quietly.

As he crept along, Matthias made careful note of everything and anything that looked particularly valuable. His pouches were hopelessly empty, except for that stupid blue bag of crap. Finally, he stood outside a doorway, nudging the door open with his foot, Matthias strained to hear the conversation.
"That damned fool of a lord came back, dragging some hopeless peasant with him." "Thank the powers that be for Bern!" "Aye, and for the Ruinz Bandits!"
During the loud cheer that followed, Matthias pondered the comment. Who the hell were the Ruinz bandits? and why did that not sound particularly pleasing. The traitors continued talking.
"So, we're to kill the Lord and his little friend." "That's right, so that the base in Bern is secure." "Won't be much of a problem, Sain's reckless, and that archer doesn't look like much." "Easy pickings."
"Easy pickings my ass," muttered Matthias, as he started edging away from the doorway. These guys need a good ass-kicking, which is exactly what Sain excels at. He had made it a good way before a cloaked figure stepped into the hallway.
"It's that archer!" he shouted. Matthias cursed, and carefully drew up his bow. The shaman moved his arms, and something sprang up from underneath our brave archer, causing him to cry out (not scream like a girl) in pain. He sank to one knee, recouperating from the blow. He quickly rose to his feet, in time to see three more men step into the hallway. Two were traditional bandits, but one wore enough armor to match Sain. The last to enter was a slim female in a mage's outfit. Five to one, Matthias was royally screwed if nobody else showed up.

Thankfully, Matthias was blessed with a higher reaction time than the others. He drew back an arrow, and quickly fired a shot, aimed at the shaman who had just hurt him. The arrow sunk deep into the shaman's chest, and he went down, obviously out of the fight. However, while Matthias had been focused on the shaman, the other four could move. The two bandits lunged at him, and the archer barely had time to skip away from their flying axes. His dodge placed him right in the range of the knight, who stabbed deep into the archer's leg. Hissing with pain, Matthias tried to back pedal, but tripped over the body of the shaman.
He looked up into the eyes of the female mage.
"Well, it seems as though Sain's little dog has some bite to him, shame you're not going to live long enough to matter," she hissed. It was then that Matthias noticed a yellow tome in her hands. She read the words from the tome, and lighting flew down from the ceiling, electrifying Matthias's battered body. Things were definately not going well...
OoC: all this, and I'm the only guy who denied getting a vulnerary...

"Hrm. Both seem great, but I like my hands and I don't need to be serving any snooty lords." With that jibe, and the subsequent BOOMing of something that sounded oddly like a lighting tome, he made his move to escape.
He was quick on his feet, and he ran towards the sound, somehow managing to edge (Haha. Get it?) past his adversary. He looked for the extreme valuables, but found something not as good.
"Two bandits, a knight, and a mage, eh?" He said this to divert their attention, noticing a wounded archer on the ground. They all turned, almost surprisedly, and Kyo made his move. Going for the mage, first, he drew out his short sword, turning in the air a few times to gain momentum... and...
SLASH! (Insert Critical sound effects)
The sword buried itself into the mage, a tooth of a starving beast puncturing its prey. "My conscious gets me into trouble sometimes..." Dancing out of the way of the bandits, he withdrew his vulnerary, popped it open, and quickly spread it on the injured archer.
"I hope you're okay, because things are looking mighty bad, and I have things to steal."

Sain bellowed as he lost his balance and fell, and then said "He wont escape, there is no way unless if I let him out" He looked at the stream of blood on the floor as he turned a corner, and a few dead bandits "Here, damnit!!!" , then he told one of the NPC's "Tell all soldiers staying here to be on high alert!!!"

The vulnerary helped, but every muscle still ached. Matthias rose unsteadily to his feet, eyeing the thief.
"Okay, I've got no idea who the hell you are, but thanks all the same," Mattias commented. While he was talking, the two bandits attempted to swing at the archer and thief. His duck placed him right next to the corpse of the mage, and he quickly scooped up her possessions, you never know when that sort of thing could be useful.
He rose to his feet just in time to dodge the knight.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't exaclty look strong enough to dent this guy!" He called to the thief, as he dodged out of the way. He drew and arrow and knocked it in his bow. Suddenly, the room seemed to grow still, as everything stopped moving. He could feel the arrow leaving the bow, and see it sink deep into the head of one of the bandits. Something told him that shots like that wouldn't happen too often.
OoC: yes, he loots mid-fight. don't forget to get that flux tome. and for completley arbitrary reasons, one of the bandits just happens to be carrying a lockpick... you know... a thief item...
Items gained: thunder tome, vulnerary
Unfortunately, bandits can't hit worth s**t, and thieves and archers are renowned for their dodging abilities.

Sain saw a knight attacking Matthias "Stop" Sain Yelled out "Never!!!" The Knight yelled. Sain pulled out his woulf beil, and slung it on his back, then swung it with enough force that it howled like a wolf on a full moon. The Sharp Edge of the axe cut through the Knight's armour like paper, and cut the Traiterous Knight in half. "Traitors shall die, but how many of them are there!"

"Well, there's one now, and I think he's a rather unhappy person." Matthias joked, pointing at the survivor of the traitors. The bandit stood there trembling, and judging by the stench rising from him, he had recently soiled himself. His gaze went from the agile thief, to the deadly archer, to the powerful lord. Obviously, the odds had just shifted, and they were horribly against him. There was no way he could get out of here...
Matthias smiled at the remaining bandit, loving the switch. He motioned to Sain, leaving the decision to the Lord.
"Oh, yeah, and for finding this out, I so want some booty," he jibed, grinning. Something else jogged the back of his mind. Bandits in Bern... wasn't that where Kenshin, Flyssa and Rath (note: Mattias still thinks Rath is with those two) were heading? They were going to need backup, maybe he could convince his lord, and this new guy to help out.

All Sain said was "Slay him" and then turned to the theif " Kyo, Now considering that you helped my friend here, you wont get in any trouble, but we need your help, bandits are trying to take over the world, and you need to come with us. Oh , yeah did I mention that the bandits are rich."

"Wait a second, don't we want to get information from the guy, before you kill him?" Matthias tried to get the attention of Sain. "I mean, he might know something."
Matthias then turned to glance over at the bandit, who still stunk of his own waste. To make things worse, a finger had somehow managed to work its way halfway up his nose. Mattias wrinkled his own nose in disgust.
"On second thought... maybe one of the magelike people have plans," he began searching the corpse of the shaman. "hmm... flux tome... strange blue potion bottle... secret plans complete with map... no gold.. Wait a second!"
Matthias unrolled the parchment, and carefully studied it. Letters came slowly to him, as reading wasn't something he practiced regularly. Finally, the ink revealed its secret to him.
"There's a whole bunch of them moving towards some base in the Bern mountains, and it sounds like someone spotted a lone swordsman... and a mage..." Matthias glanced over at his lord. "If you're done bullying thieves into submission, we might want to head to Bern.
OoC: can we sell stuff? otherwise, there is no point in carrying a flux tome...
