It had been quite some time since he left his friends. He found himself in Ilia. He took his first steps onto snow. The cold was barely felt on his callused feet. He couldn't shake the feeling of abandonment, although it was he who left his friends. He was at the base of the mountains, and many rocks were piled up. He began constructing a half snow, half rock igloo. When it was done he lied down in the warmth, and sighed.

He awoke late in the morning, with a growing hunger in his stomach. He searched everywhere, finding barely anything to eat, but it could be called a meal. The berries were sour, and the nut were bitter. He decided to head off for a town, which was far enough away to stay alone, but close enough to travel back and forth within the day. The snow had stopped, but the cold winds still blew and carried snow from the trees. His lips cracked in the dry icy air, he eyes pained as they watered and became icy.

The town was small, the people poor. He came to an older man, trying to attend to his daily chores. "Let me help you" He said to the man. The man was suspicious, but needed the help. Verikk helped him with the dishes, laundry, and daily errands. At the end of the day they sat down to dinner, and the old man though of a way he could repay the young man. He went into his room and came out with a fine, black robe. Verikk took it happily, and left for his home with a full stomach and a sense of fulfillment.

He made it back to his home late in the nighht, and fell strait to sleep. He saw his dad, looking for his mom in the forest. It changed to him working in Bulgar. Ended with him old, retired to a poor village, in the snow. It was the village he was in today. He lived right next to the old man. How close he was to his farther, and he didn't even realize. He had a hard time falling to sleep with the peice of information, but finnaly his body forced him to. The next morning he ran to the village, tripping frequently in the snow.

All noise left his ears, all emotions gave into nervousness, All he saw was his fist and the blurred door behind it. He slowly moved it forward, then one hit on the icy wood. He repeated it, and he heard the door handle moving, and the door swung open. His farther looked him strait in the eyes. That old man's expression quickly turned from loneliness, to a pure happiness. "Verikk, my boy what brings you here," he said. He wasn't expecting a welcome such as this. "How can you be so happy when you tried to kill my mother," He said angrily. "Do you not remember what happened?" He said. "I remember when I was a young boy, my mother was running from you, why else would she be running from you," he said. "Your mother was running from me, because she had tried to kill me, She become enraged, because I was always hunting, but one day I killed a bird, your mother loved all the creatures of the forest, but she adored birds, butterflies, moths, anything that could fly. Verikk looked down, all this time it was his mother who had the rage, not his farther. "I'm sorry dad" he said almost in tears. "I've forgiven your mother long, you should too" he said softly. Verikk did just that, he forgave both his parents, and something heavy was lifted from his mind.

He moved in with his farther, and they spent much time together. Verikk finnaly had a home, and a loving parent. They caught up on every year they speant apart from each other. His farther was an old man, and on the second week, he died. Verikk awoke, and wandered the house calling for his farther. When he finnaly came to his farthers bed, he saw him laying there. Verikk announced it to the town, and everyone came to the funeral. He had only known his farther for two weeks, and he was already saying goodbye to him. The ground was so cold, but the villagers didn't let that stop them. They all dug while one mage boy kept the soil warm.

Verikk followed the will of his farther, and officially moved into his new home. It was nice to have your own house, and a village of people who all knew each other. Verikk often trained with all the children. Darrel was becoming good with magic, Ella was good with healing, and Adelaire barely missed a target with his bow. Life was great, everyone looked up to him in this tiny village. Theres nothing that could ever persuade him to leave, they needed him, and he loved it here.

The next day Verikk busily helped repair there church. No ones been in it for years, and he fealt that they needed somewhere to go as a community, somewhere for hope. Ella's dad was to be bishop of the church. She would follow him as a cleric. The combined work of the village soon lead to a new, and beautiful church. It was first of the many improvements to follow. Verikk felt a sense of satisfaction looking up at it's fine iron bell.

The next day Verikk fixed up the tavern that Adelaire's dad ran. It didn't need much improvment, so he was down by the end of the day with only a few villagers help. Adelaire ran through the new bar and came upon a darts game. There he finnaly found some fun in his life. Verikk looked around the village, and found the library. He, Darrel, Darrel's dad, and as always some villagers, helped repair it. Verikk loaned all of his farthers old books to the library. The village was finnaly all fixed up. It was a happy sight to see people leaving there houses and going abotu the town. Verikk was finnaly happy, he had a place to live, and they all adored him.

Verikk awoke in the morning, and went to the tavern. He sat down and drank a glass of tea. Later the village went to the church for weekly service. During the announcements he was announced for all he had down for the town. He stood up and everyone clapped for him. He said thank you, and sat down. He tried to hide his embarrassment, but it showed. The village also discussed the matter of money. The only way they could get it, was to send some people to the mercenaries. Unfortunately, none of the children were old enough, but they village saw a hopeful future. They had enough wealth to raise children, and to eventually become a successful, growing village.

A small group of bandits were spotted nearby the village. Verikk, Darrel, and Adelaire went hunting for them. Verikk felt nervous having to look out for someone elses life. Soon they were within the sight range of three bandits. Adelaire, and Darrel both struck down one. The other two ranover to them. Verikk struck down another. The last bandit jumped for Darrel, but was caught with an arrow in he side. He felt to the ground, and Darrel finished him off. It was there first hunting trip, and Verikk saw that they would be great for the mercenaires. In only two years they would be old enough to join.

When they returned to the village, and told everyone there story. Everyone respected Darrel, and Adelaire as more than children. Which the deserved, being almost in there teens. Ella ran up to Darrel and gave him a big hug. Verikk was lost from reality, he saw Kida and im hugging. How he missed Larten and Kida, and only wish they would come to the village and live here. Kida and Tal were probally getting married as he spoke, Larten laughing it up with his family. They would never come here.

Verikk and the local blacksmith worked together to make an organ piano for the church. It was small but produced quite a loud noise. Verikk got together a chorus and they sang to the music he played. He recalled Kida's singing, the towns chorus was not close to her beautiful singing. All the friends in this town didn't compare to his old ones. The loneliness in his heart never ceased, no mater how much he improved the town, it would never leave him.

Verikk was walking through the forest, when he heard sharp, sad, calls for help. It was an animal, he was running now. A crow was laying on the ground with a broken wing. He picked it up and hurried home. When he got there he washed it up, and wrapped the broken wing in a piece of his old robe. Verikk cared for the bird day in and out until it's broken wing finally moved once more. He brought it out side and threw it into the air. He waited for it fly away, but ti didn't, and came back and landed on his shoulder. Verikk was surprised, but he needed a good friend, so he welcomed his new companion.

When he went to service that day with a crow on his shoulder, people gave him angry looks. He asked why, they told him it was because ravens are an omen of death. "It's not a raven, it's a crow" He said thinking that would solve the problem. These people didn't care, it was a large black bird, it was death to them. The village loved him, so they allowed him to keep it. Thought it did set a level of uneasiness where ever he went.
