Lyndsey finally arrived at her destination, after nearly a week's worth of travel (yay for speed traveling!). She landed on a specially constructed platform, handing the reins to a waiting servant. "Lyndsey, thirty-second unit, reporting in," she stated, trying to keep her voice flat and emotionless. A servant nodded and hurried away. Lyndsey glanced over the edge of the fortress, down at the villages in a valley below. She wondered if Matis and company were there, seeking aid. A servant called her in, and she left her wonderings outside.

The inside of the fortress was warmer than the outside, but not by much. The knights believed in strengthening the body of their recruits. Hardy mercenaries meant more money for the snowy land. Lyndsey followed a servant through familiar corridors, her mind reaching back to the last time she was here. That had been when she'd been given her first real assignment, which she now had to report as a failure. The young pegasus knight shivered, and not from the chill wind.

The doors opened, and Lyndsey walked into a room she'd never been allowed in before. This room was reserved for debriefings and trials... And Lyndsey's time here would be a combination of both. She cautiously walked to the center of the room. Surrounding her were tables, on which the leaders of the Pegasus Knights were stationed. For this particular incident, even a few of the male Ilian Mercenaries were brought forth. Lyndsey breathed deep, trying to force a calmness she didn't feel.
"Lyndsey, fifth daughter of Althea," the head of the pegasus knights spoke. Lyndsey straightened. "The thirty-second unit of Ilia's pegasus knights corps was hired by a client who wished to remain secret. Until recently, we believed that the entire unit had been wiped out by attempting a mission beyond the skill of their forces. We had struck the names of all your unit from the roster. Then, we receive news from our friends at the Nabatan border that Lyndsey is indeed alive, and traveling with another group of mercenaries, unauthorized. Unit Leader Lyndsey, confirm." Lyndsey nodded, gripping her hands tightly into fists. "As we have not received an official report, we would ask that you present yours now. And sister," the weathered falcoknight eyed her younger sibling, "you have a deep hole to climb out of." Lyndsey gulped, as she tried to figure out where to begin.

"As the council guessed, the target, a young Sacean swordmaster named Matis, proved to be too strong. My unit had allied with a group of bandits in order to accomplish our mission. our initial assault proved hazardous, as we lost many of our number to an archer and several other skilled fighters. In the end, I ordered what remained of the unit to escape. Unfortunately I was apprehended by the group. Instead of executing me, they offered me to join. I went along for while, before escaping..." she glanced away, suddenly ashamed of the memory. "I ended up in the Nabatan desert. There I was reunited with the group, and we were charged with a mission by Athos himself..." The group seemed astonished by the words. "The heroes have been resurrected, and are fighting against the forces of order. A bandit leader is attempting to wrest control of this world using dark magics. Matis turned out to be one of the few leaders of a small group that's fighting to stop them. I admit, I was against them for the majority of the time. However..." She fought in vain against a blush. "I... became interested in one of the members, a strong Bernese deserter. His actions, and the actions of the others, convinced me that they are fighting on the right side..." She glanced away. "Unit Leader Lyndsey," her sister spoke again. Lyndsey snapped back to attention. "You are to be removed to a private room while the council discusses what has been said here. Do you have any other remarks?" Lyndsey shook her head. Her sister motioned for a servant escort a nervous Lyndsey to a private room. There, Lyndsey sat and pondered her fate.

After several hours of waiting and wondering, a servant came to fetch Lyndsey. The pegasus knight rose and returned to the trial room. "We have heard of this Matis. He has recently arrived in our lands, asking for our aid. With him is a dark magician and a scruffy young boy," an elder male mercenary locked eyes with Lyndsey. "Should we aid this man?" "I thought this was my trial, not his," Lyndsey snapped back. Her irritation at the process was showing. "True," her sister spoke. "But we still wish to hear your thoughts on the matter." "If we don't help him Ilia will end up falling to Hargus and his cronies," Lyndsey retorted. "Preposterous!" one of the council members raged. "Fine, we'll see how preposterous it is when you're head's on a pick and some resurrected wannabe is leading Ilia's mercenaries to battle!" Lyndsey snapped. "That's enough!" her sister silenced the entire council, and Lyndsey. "We will give this Matis the aid he requires, reserving enough to repel any forces. Also, we should be on the lookout for anyone pretending to be a hero of legend." "Surely you're not going to do all this on the word of a Sacean mongrel and a renegade?" sneered a mercenary lord. "Saceans don't lie. And that renegade is my sister," Lyndsey's sister, Laurette, responded, glaring. "Lyndsey you are hereby free to go and choose your own mission." "Good, I choose to return to Lycia then," Lyndsey stated. "I have someone to find."

Lyndsey was packing up her things when Laurette walked in. "So, did the cold hearted bitch finally find someone?" the sister asked. "Shove it," Lyndsey retorted. "Well, I'm just saying. You used to shove your lance down boys' throats when they even looked at you. Now you're going to travel halfway across the continent to look for a man. Lacey will be thrilled." "Whatever," Lyndsey hissed. She was beginning to remember why she left home. She was about to leave when her sister pressed a bag into her hand. "I noticed you were out of vulnerary. This should help." "Thanks, sis." "Bring him here sometime, so we can tease him." "No way in hell." Lyndsey walked back to her mount, who looked freshly groomed and happy. She climbed on, and kicked off.
Laurette watched her youngest sister for a while, before turning to yell at some mercenaries. "Come on! You have to hurry to catch up with Matis!"
