Dirk heard a sharp, exploding noise, he turned to the pier quickly and saw only fire. "Matis! Should we help the people here? Or quickly leave to Bern?" Dirk wasn't normally suited to a fire of this size, the small fires he put out back home were nothing compared to this.

"That's no accidental fire," said Wein, staring into the flames. "It's too sudden, too loud. A powerful mage perhaps?" Wein flinched as a large tongue of flame shot out from the burning pier. "Whoever it is will be able to lay waste to this entire city if we don't do anything."

"It's not a question," Alexia responded. Her voice was steady, commanding even. Nodding, she swung onto Night Flight, double-checking her weapons. "We can't very well abandon the people here, not to something like that. We're able to help, and we're going to do that."
Alexia's eyes went to Matis, and she nodded slightly in his direction.
"I'm going, at the very least. I won't force any of you to do so. But remember this: if anyone was hurt and you didn't do something, aren't you as guilty as the one who started the fire?" with that Alexia kicked her horse into action, heading in the direction of the blaze.

Alexia's answer stung Dirk's heart like seven spears. Her words rang through him several times. If anyone was hurt and you didn't do something, aren't you as guilty as the one who started the fire? Dirk gritted his teeth, the past was behind him, but Alexia was right, he had to help the people.

Almost as soon as Matis had seen the fire, his eyes moved around, looking at everyone in the party. He knew that there were only two types of people who could do that, and he had personally met one of those. Mages were an option, yes. But he feared something greater. Much greater. Last time he had seen a fire this size, it was went alongside a dragon. Matis wanted to make sure there were enough of them, just in case.
Immediately following Dirk's question and Alexia's nod, Matis gave his own response "I'm going. Whoever wants to follow me is free to do so", almost in sync with Alexia's words. He ran off towards the source of the fire. What he found there, though...

"Well I'm proud to say I've never ran from a person in need," said Wein, "and I don't plan to start now." He adjusted his quiver. Wein dashed into the fiery inferno that was the pier, and in it, he saw a sight he had only heard stories about.

Cefia rushed over to Janus after scanning the area for awhile. Apparently they had joined up with another group and now she was pretty much stuck with them. Within her, she really truly wished to return back to the water. Taking a step forward, kicking up a small cloud of dirt, she faced Matis.
"I'll go, since there is nothing better to do."

Dozens of charred bodies, some even lacking flesh, consumed entirely by the flames. "How?" Matis asked out loud unintentionally. He saw a man standing there, staring at the fire in a mix of awe and terror. "Who!?" he asked, grabbing the man from his shirt. "Who did this!?"
The man could only so much as utter a few words and ran away. Whoever it was, he or she is strong. Perhaps even too strong...
OoC: Sorry to disappoint you guys, but it's not time just yet. We need to stay in Etruria, though.

Matis would now be close enough to here the one man on the pier who was yelling. Upon hearing Matis shout questions he found him.
"I seen it, I did! I dun tell you I ain't wrong! Some guy, like a hunchback or samething, down there!" He said, pointing down the docks, to a small alley way. "I don saw him pay some thugs not five moments 'go. An den I saw him! He did it I swear yah! He did som weird hand thing-a-majig and nex thin I know, tha boats 'sploding like a barrel a oil!"
He seemed to be completely convinced of his story, weather it be true or false.

While Matis investigated the fire, Alexia started working to control the burns and get the people together.
"Wein!" Alexia jerked her head to find the archer. "Start searching bodies, see who's still alive."
Alexia hopped down from Night Flight and began following her own order, carefully examining the various bodies. She trusted Matis to figure out the cause of it, and she'd worry about the people and boats.
"Someone check the boats!" she ordered, waving a hand. "We have to see how extensive the damage is! Put out the fires!"
She moved on to another corpse, this one moaning. Why did people keep doing this to each other?

"Hey guys, do you think maybe the fire was meant to kill us for killing that hero?" Dirk got off of Kabold and started moving towards the fire. If the ship sank before they could investigate what happened, there would be no way of finding out who did this. "I'm just glad I have flame retardant clothes on." Dirk started sweating badly as he got closer to the fire.

The destruction was horrible. He'd never seen anything like it in his life. Sure, he'd seen battles and bandit raids, but this was pointless, burning carnage. The heat seared his face. He began to have second thoughts about his mage theory.
Wein stopped and looked at the man standing in on the pier. He frowned as Matis grabbed the man by the shirt, but couldn't hear what they were saying. Why was that man spared the flames. Perhaps he did it? The man didn't look anything special...
Wein nodded his head at Alexia's command. "I'm on it!" he shouted back. He started examining bodies. He couldn't find any survivors, save for one middle aged man who was lucky enough to be underwater when the explosion happened, saving him from lethal burns.

Dirk ran towards the blazing fire, but as he got nearer he saw nothing but fire. "Damn, there's no way in." Dirk was sweating heavily from the intense flames. He saw a man lying on his face, who he then picked up over his shoulder and brought farther away from the fire. Whoever did this, might have been aiming for us. Dirk shuddered at the thought and continued walking.
