Alexia bashed one pirate, and tossed another to Katara to deal with. By now they were weary of dealing with the paladin, and some were just going around her instead of fighting her. A couple just threw down their weapons and ran.
"Let them run!" Alexia yelled.

Watching the pirates run off he aimed for one of the last few,'ok, wind. check. heart. check.' Carefully letting the arrow loose in a motion slowly becoming familiar to him, Raen watched the arrow go slightly left, but accomplish it's job nonetheless.
"Let them go? Fine; But who knows how many more of them there are, and what if they regroup?" he said. Now thinking to himself, 'well I suppose we're strong enough, but for hundreds?'
There seemed almost none left and -well, no sense in wasting a good hat, fetching a hat from a slain pirate on the ground. 'At least now I can deal with one thing, the sun.' he thought. 'let them go.... let them go... pah'

Hearing Alexia's call, Saru looked around to take stock of the group. With the pirates running, he could relax. No one looked too hurt, in fact it looked his few shallow cuts were the worst thing suffered in the group. 'Damn, I need to train,' he thought. With that, Saru pulled a few bandages out of his pack and started to wrap his cuts.
"So Alexia, um, could you explain how we got here? One minute we're in Sacae, and the next, were here. Wherever here is."

"We want to attract attention, remember. It is entirely possible that the Hero is working either wih or against the local pirates. Either way, they may be our quickest route to him," Alexia explained, wiping her blade off on a dead pirates shirt. She straightened in the saddle, looking at Saru.
"We were teleported here through the magic of the sage Athos. He lends our group aid from time to time, usually in this manner."
She looked to see where the pirates were running...

Katara slashed open a pirate's throat and started to run at the pirates who had decided to bypass Alexia. They either ran at the sight of her blade or found it in their vitals. "If the pirates here are under Durban's command, then the ones who are running will most likely tell him about us.

Matis had stayed back for the duration of the fight, using nearby plants to get cover. Only a single pirate had found him. A pirate which he disposed off with haste. He had been inspecting his comrades as they fought. He knew Dirk, Katara and Alexia would manage just fine, even against twenty or thirty of those, but he wanted to see how the two new guys would react.
Once they started to retreat, Matis showed himself, stopping Katara in her tracks. "We'll have enough time to follow them. But...if we do so now, I'm afraid those two will die" he said, nodding towards Raen and Saru. "Sure, this battle gave them a small idea of what fighting actually is, but remember that we are hunting Durban here"
Matis moved past Alexia, praising her skills at commanding on his way, and got out his Mani Katti. "Ready for some practice, Saru? Dirk, would you mind helping Raen?" Dirk was a good marksman, but not just that. Firing arrows from atop a horse that was moving was something to be proud of. He should be able to make Raen improve in a short time.

Alexia watched the last of the pirates run into the distance, then turned to face Matis.
"Yes, training would be good. might as well let the pirates alert Durban of our presence instead of wasting time looking for him. I'm going to rub down Night Flight," she hopped off her horse. "And get ready for the attack."
Her eyes flicked over to the others.
"Besides, we have drastically different fighting styles... I'm the only one here who isn't Sacean..."

Saru just nodded towards Matis, readying himself. He wasn't sure whether Matis wanted him to attack first or just defend. He could only hope that this wasn't going to hurt too much, even though he knew it would. Matis had to at least try and get him to the point where he wouldn't be in the way, and Saru knew that he had a long way to go. "I'm ready," he said.

Matis got into stance, nodding to Alexia's comment without letting Saru get out of his eyesight.
"Come. I want you to try and get through my defense"
This worked with Katara last time. Let's see if this guy can do it too
OoC: Sorry for the short post. And I'm sure someone got a Flux tome in one of the topics. Don't ask me which one, or who, but I saw Kenshin's edit.

Saru nodded and ran at Matis. He figured that Matis would expect him to be more cautious the first time he was sparring with someone obviously his better and catch him by surprise. 'Well, here goes,' Saru thought as he started off with a wide horizontal slice aimed at Matis' midesction.

Matis blocked with ease, sidestepped, and tripped Saru over, as he got some distance.
"Slow and easy to see through. Try again"
He didn't like being harsh, but he doubted Saru would mind. Training is meant to be hard, but that's what makes its rewards so sweet.
"I want you to attack as if you were trying to kill me. It won't help you at all, otherwise"

Saru got up slowly. 'Dammit. That didn't work. Oh well, it was a long shot anyways. I'll just give it my best,' he thought. With that, Saru rushed Matis again, sending several slashes and thrusts, probing Matis' defenses. 'I've got to try to find an opening then strike.'

"That's better" he said, dodging and blocking attacks here and there. Saru was getting close. His sword had already made some holes on his trench coat, and it was getting dangerously close to his face.
Matis clashed blades with Saru, getting both of them into a deadlock. "Let's see how strong you are" Matis said with a grin, as Saru tried to hold his ground.

'Damn him,' Saru thought. Matis knew he was the stronger of the two and was proving it to Saru. Barely managing to hold Matis' blade away from him, Saru came up with an idea. He pushed harder, making Matis do the same. Saru then quickly stopped resisting and jumped back a bit before making a horizontal swing, hoping to catch Matis off guard.

Saru's unexpected reaction made Matis push forward so much that he ended face down on the floor, right after moving his right hand away, so he wouldn't end up cutting himself. As a result, Saru's blade went right above Matis' head, cutting a small part of his hair.
Wasting no time, as he knew Saru's weapon would be right on him if he stayed on the ground, he rolled, used his legs to get up into stance again, and blocked Saru's incoming blade.
"Amazing" he said, as they kept clashing blades over and over.
OoC: Dirk, I'm making time for you to "help" Raen, you know. If you wish, that is.
