Saru knew it was irrational to take offense at Alexia's remark, because it was the truth. If they were going to fight Bern, they needed strong people. And he was definitely not strong enough to be of any help when the fighting started. 'I...am weak.' He hated that thought, but it was true. Seeing the strength of Durban earlier had been a frightening experience. Did he really want to get caught up in the coming fighting?
The mercenary spent the next few minutes thinking while he continued to work. And he came to a decision. 'I...am weak. But I will train. I want to become strong, and help them.' Saru looked up, and realized that they were almost done fixing the roof. Waiting till both Matis and him were on the ground, he then called out. "...Matis? Can I...talk to you for a minute?"

Matis turned his head. Saru...his voice seemed almost...cracked.
"Sure" he said, coming closer, as both him and Saru moved away from the rest of the party.
"What's the matter? Is everything ok?"

"I..." Saru started to say, then paused. Even if he could think it, it was extremely hard to say out loud, especially to someone else. He shook his head and cleared his throat before trying again. "I've been thinking about the whole...situation...that you are the others are in. Going off to fight extremely powerful enemies, maybe even a whole country. And I realized, after the fight with Durban..." he paused slightly, "I'm...really weak. I want to help you, but at this rate, I can't. So I was wondering...could you help me train, so that I can fight alongside you?"
Saru felt both relieved and embarrassed that he had actually said that. He really did want to help. But it was embarrassing to admit that he was weak, even to someone so far ahead of him. He could only hope that Matis would agree to help.

Hammering away at the roof Raen looked down and noticed Saru and Matis having a very involved conversation on the ground 'Hmm. I wonder what they could possibly be talking about, he's probably just trying to do less work by distracting Matis'
Raen decided and then deftly started hammering an unlucky potatoe bug that happened to crawl by him on the roof, he paused 'Alexia was talking about fighting some stronger enemies though... maybe it has something to do with that. Good thing I'm an archer I suppose' he chuckled and went back to hammering the roof.

"Of course I don't mind!" Matis said happily. "We are a team after all, are we not?" he added, grinning.
"We could spar every time we make camp. We have roughly a month from where we are to Bern, so we have a lot of chances to practice"
He has shown much skill and determination, though, even for a beginner. Wonder how long I'll be teaching him and when HE will start teaching me...
OoC: Might I remind you all that every time Matis has "trained" someone, it was a Myrmidon. For the first time, he gets to train someone of a different class. Matis himself might learn a thing or two from Saru.

"Thanks," Saru said with a smile. That assurance helped to assuage his spirit. And with that out of the way, Saru moved on to the next topic.
"Now that that's taken care of...Since we're gonna be here for 2 days it looks like, I was thinking. How 'bout we all hit a pub or something tonight to kick back and relax? I already asked Dirk," here he mumbled under his breath, "but he pretty much said no. How 'bout you?"

"Relaxing right now is about the only thing we can do, so I don't see why not. We have it all sorted out already, either way" Matis replied with a grin on his face.
The rest had gathered around the two once they heard the word 'relax'. "We've got two days to spare, so why don't we just take it easy for the moment? It's not like we can do anything else right now"
The sun was setting already, quite earlier than he thought it should have. We've barely been awake for 9 hours now and the sun's already on the horizon? Weird...
OoC: Matis realizing the world is actually a sphere of sorts? Nothing stops this reality from believing the world is flat now that I think about it.

Alexia nodded as they agreed to more training. It wouldn't hurt for all of them to train more. Even Matis, Katara and herself could use more training. This next battle would try them to the fullest.
"I think I shall relax here, if it's alright with all of you. I could use some peace and quiet," she smiled, "blame it on country living."

"I suppose you're right, we have nothing to do. I'll take you up on your previous offer, Saru, there's a great pub down the street..."

Hearing Dirk mentioning he had found a pub down the street, he said, "Alrighty then! If we're done with the working, we can head out. Dirk, lead the way!" He then turned to Alexia. "Anything you want us to pick up for ya?" he asked.

Full of happiness with the realization that he would finally be able to drink: Raen added to Saru's offer, "It wouldn't be a problem for us in the least I'm sure, big strong guys - you know. " Grinning he tried to appear amicable to make up for earlier disapproval of his laziness.

"I don't know, Raen, you look weaker than everyone else here." Dirk laughed and walked down to the pub. "Hey barkeep, what do ya got?" "You're in the Western Isles, Sacean, all we've got is rum. Isn't that right boys!" Various pirates around the bar began to chant "Rum! Rum! Rum!"

Matis entered the bar slightly after Dirk, Saru and Raen had.
"Rum! Rum! Rum!" echoed in the small place as Matis made hims way to the bartender. "Give me some, would you? I'll pay for these guys too" he said, motioning towards Dirk, Saru and Raen. Alexia and Katara had not entered the bar, but he intended to pay for them as well if they did.
After tasting it for the first time, Matis felt the liquor burning his throat, making its way towards the stomach. "Strong" he calmly said, trying to catch a breath. He barely had had the time to try drinks on his trips around Elibe, and alcohol was not common in Sacae. He had only tasted beer and red wine so far, liking both to an extent.

Hearing that Matis would be paying for them, Saru grinned and grabbed the mug the barkeep placed in front of him. He then tossed his head back and gulped the rum, feeling it burning its way down his throat. Saru suppressed his urge to cough and wince, not wanting to make it seem like he couldn't take his liquor in front of the pirates. He idly wondered how much of the stuff he had to drink before he became noticeably drunk.

Alexai just shook her head in response to Saru, and watch the men head off for the bar. Honestly, could they be any more cliche?
She opted for settling in to the church, relaxing and just enjoying the quiet. That and she wanted to do a lot of nothing. It was nice to just kick back and enjoy the solitude.
