Alphonse watched as Shadow kept his eye on the well dressed man at the bar. The shaman kept looking at him until he started up the stairs. Alphonse had a bad feeling about this, Shadow was acting quite weird. Alphonse saw as Shadow turned his head away from the man quickly, looked at him, and asked a question. He couldn't quite catch the first part of it, but he did catch the last half. The priest was now very worried. Dodging swinging and jabbing objects? What's going on!?
Alphonse looked at the shaman with worried eye's "Shadow..." Alphonse said in a choked voice, "is something going to happen?" The priest then thought about Shadows question. I bet I can, but done that in nearly two decades. Back when I was young... Alphonse starred at Shadow, not knowing what else to say.

Shadow listened to his surroundings. He could hear careless footsteps outside as they thudded down to the ground. Shadow looked at the bar; no body there. The only people in the room were Alphonse and himself. The footsteps grew louder, and the feeling inside Shadow's chest grew stronger. Whether it was a panic, or adrenaline, something was there.
He closed the book. The pages made a flap like sound, as they quietly closed together. Instead of putting it away, he kept the tome at his side, gripping it firmly. Shadow felt the energy from the book, feeling the dark magic.
Shadow looked up at Alphonse, and said quietly, "Yes, Alphonse, something is going to happen. Something that most thugs don't see much of. You want to know what that might be?" Shadow's voice changed drastically, from being worried, to an almost calm, yet harsh tone.

"What are you..." was all Alphonse could say as the door to the inn slammed wide open. Alphonse could feel his heart jump into his throat, he was completely paralyzed with fear. He could hear the loud thud of their boots as they walked over to the bar. Alphonse slowly looked over at Shadow, not knowing what to do.

Shadow looked over to the bar, not moving his head. There were three of them. It was the group from last night. They were the people who were silently speaking with the innkeeper. It was they who kept glancing over at him. They had no idea what was coming.
One of the taller, more assertive, thugs said something quietly to the smallest one. That thug went to the door, keeping a close eye on Shadow and Alphonse. He then locked the door, then scurrying back to his little group. Shadow then looked at Alphonse, and said calmly, "They are going to witness a real fight." at the end of his sentence, he stood up, hoping that Alphonse would too. To make sure that he would, he gave a small gesture with his hands for Alphonse to get up. Still, the feeling inside Shadow's chest grew.

Alphonse watched intently as Shadow stood up and made a gesture. He wants me to stand up with him? I don't like this... Alphonse stood up with a sigh. He and Shadow were both facing the bandits at the bar. He tried to look calm but he could feel his right hand twitching. Sweat started to run down his forehead, he felt the lump in his throat slowly get bigger, his eye's remained completely still. The taller thug of the three was starring at them. He could feel his sweat running down his palm. How long had it been? A minute? Five? The taller thug got up from the bar and started towards him and Shadow, with a straight, intimidating face.

The thug that was walking towards the two was the tallest, but didn't reach Shadow's height. The straight face that the thug made, Shadow met with right back. Soon, the thug was only feet away, and he stopped. He then began to speak.
"So, we hear dat there's been some sort'sa incodent 'ere. Would you be's so kind as to explain this ta me?" The thugs voice was a bit high toned, but Shadow didn't mind. He instead said, "I would not no of any incident in this town. Nor do I want one." The thug looked back at his group behind him, and chuckled. The others started laughing. Still, Shadow kept that straight face. "Well," began the thug leader again, "I 'appen to knows what the innsodent was. It was 'im!" The thug pointed to Alphonse. He then started speaking again. "All I want's ta know is why yew messed with someone 'ere, 'round yesterday. Care to explain?" The question and statement were directed to Alphonse.

As the thug pointed towards Alphonse, he could feel an invisible hand grab his neck. He could feel his panic rushing trough him. His throat ran dry when the thug asked the question,"I... I didn't mean..." Alphonse said, with a nervous voice. He started to back away from the thugs slowly,"I didn't mean to c-cause any trouble." Two of the thugs-the tallest one and the shortest one-started toward Alphonse. "Ya? Is that so now?" The shorter one said. The thugs were right next to Shadow. Crap! What do I do now!? I hope Shadow has plan, especially since he got me into this...

Shadow reacted quicker than most shamans would. Instead of using his tome automatically, he forcefully pushed one of the thugs into the other, causing them both to topple over a table, and collide with the wall. They were pretty shaken up about it. Before the farthest thug could run, Shadow whipped open the pages of his tome. Now, he had the darkness forming in front of him, and let it sink into the floor. The thug was charging, when a sudden ball of darkness consumed him, causing indescribable pain. The dark attack was quickly over with, but still painful. As the thug was on the floor, Shadow let out another torrent of dark magic. This time, the attack was fatal, and killed the furthest thug.
By then, the other two thugs were slowly getting up. Both of them were rubbing their heads, moaning in pain, and gaining some focus. Shadow quickly said to Alphonse, "Either you run or fight. Just don't get killed." Shadow turned back to the thugs, hoping that Alphonse would do something, soon.

Alphonse watched in amazement as the shaman easily overpowered all three thugs. Alphonse fright soon turned into courage, with a shaman with such power, how could I get hurt? Alphonse heard as Shadow yelled to either fight or to run. The priest didn't know what to do, fight? What help could he be? Alphonse saw the shortest of the thugs start to get up. He took grabbed his staff tightly and ran towards the thug. While he was still on his knees, Alphonse hit him upside the head with his staff with all his force. It made a large *fwap* sound as it met his head. The thug fell back to the ground, obviously knocked out.
He starred down at the thug, laying on the ground. He'd never attacked anyone before, and he felt sort of guilty for it. He looked back up at Shadow, who was looking over at him. The last thug behind Shadow had gotten up, and was now charging at him. "Look out!" Alphonse yelled to Shadow.

Shadow heard Alphonse's early warning, and took as side step. He let the cloak flap in the shortly-created wind, causing the thug to miss with his dagger. Instead of stopping short, the thug keept charging, tripping over the cloak. This did not effect Shadow much, as he let the pages of the tome ruffle across each other. The dark symbols had lit up,a s they always did, and Shadow sent forth a sphere shaped dark object sink into the floor. Only seconds later did it reappear, enclosing on the thug, Being that the man was on the ground, he was an easy target, and easily was hit. The man was in critical shape, when Shadow repeated his procedure of attack, and killed the thug.
Shadow look back at Alphonse, looking at him with grim eyes. His hood was down throughout the whole fight, so there would be no mistake on what he let Alphonse see through his facial expressions. He was quiet for a moment. Then, Shadow sighed, partially relaxing his tensed body. He asked quietly, "Is that all?"

Alphonse watched as Shadow mercilessly slaughtered the last of the two thugs. He tried to jump back when Shadow finished off the thug below him, trying not to get blood on himself, but he was unsuccessful. He looked over at the shaman, meeting his grim eye's. He felt a shiver run down his spine, he was struck by a fear, one that he had never felt before, as if all his feeling's were torn out of him and there was nothing but a cold and lonely void left. He stood there, looking at Shadow, watching as his grim look started to fade. Alphonse heard Shadow say something quiet under his breath. Instinctively Alphonse nodded, even though he couldn't understand what the shaman had said. The priest took a second to look around at the carnage. He was mostly unaffected by it, after seeing Shadow's expression. He looked back up at Shadow,"What now?" He asked in a slightly nervous voice.

Shadow look straight into Alphonse's eyes. He could tell he was scared. He saw that look in many people. But not in the faces of his allies. He felt horrible on the inside, like a monster almost. But this was what he did. This was what he was taught.
After some period of silence between the two acquaintances, Shadow finally spoke. All he said was, "Now we leave." He then opened his cloak up a bit, and slid the tome inside. As Shadow slid his usual tome inside, he felt the other tome he was carrying. It was Luna, a tome known for it's power within the wielder. He left his hand there for a moment, feeling the darkness in it. He then took his hand out, shifted his cloak, and nodded to Alphonse. It was all up to him now, because Shadow didn't have a plan.

"Well, shouldn't we..." Alphonse said, stopping himself. I guess we can't do much. Shadow's right, lets just the hell out of here. He motioned for Shadow with a nudge of his head towards the door. Alphonse started towards the door, walking over broken glass and wood with a *crunch*crunch*. He froze for a second and looked back at the shaman. I almost forgot... "Are you okay?" Alphonse hadn't checked to see if Shadow was hurt. How ignorant of me...

As Alphonse asked the question, he felt a sting in his side. It didn't go away, and was slowly getting worse. Shadow's eyes brows furrowed as he lifted the side of his cloak. He saw a dark, wet spot at his side. He suddenly fit the puzzle pieces together. He could see it in his mind, now. It was when the last bandit charged. As Shadow let his cloak trip him, the bandit must have flailed his arms around, letting his dagger of sorts cut into his side.
"Huh," Shadow said, mildly surprised, "I guess I got hurt. If not treated, this could soon turn to an infection sooner or later." Shadow did not want to use his Vulnerary. He needed it for harder times, bigger battles. He then had an idea. Shadow asked Alphonse, in a hopeful tone, "Are you any good at healing with that staff?"

Later that evening, 18:30, heading east along a dirt road:
Alphonse was looking up into the summer sky. It was still quite bright, but not as hot as it was yesterday; a cool breeze had blown through. Alphonse enjoyed the breeze, for he knew that it wouldn't be long before it was hot again. The priest looked over to Shadow to see if he was doing anything of interest, but he wasn't. The shaman was his usual dark and mysterious self. Alphonse had so many questions to ask Shadow, but he held back; for Shadow did not look like someone who likes to talk about himself. Alphonse looked down at Shadow's cut in his robe. It was barely visible due to his robe being so dark. I wonder how many fights he's been in... Alphonse shook his head, trying to get the question out of his head. He looked back up at the sky, deep in thought.
