It had been a few days travel since the town. They'd been taking a slow pace to use the time to rest and recover, and Wyatt's hand was almost back to normal. He could use it, but still a little sore.
Now they were climbing one of the many cliffs of the Laus mountains, since the signs of boot worn trails were obvious even to someone who wasn't a tracker. Wein had advised, but the way the tracks diverged, that they were very close to the bandit's hide out, so they would run into the outer guard soon.
They had been making slow progress up the mountain, but believed themselves still a few hours from the site, so they weren't being particularly stealthy.
Wyatt looked around, cracking his neck a few times.
"Lots of nooks and crannys, this is going to be a bad place to fight...they could jump out of anywhere."

"Wein's the one who's at the biggest disadvantage here. There are lots of places for the bandits to hide in. It'll make it hard for him to get a clean shot in without hitting one of us. Hhhmm...I don't know exactly how to make this any easier on us. I've read a couple of books about tactics that my father had from his travels, but it's been a while since I read them and I'm not the best to talk to about tactics. I can stay in front because my armor is heavier than most of you, except for Sir Denzel, but he's on horseback. Anyone else got any ideas?"
Selk crossed his arms and tried to find a good place to make their move from. There was no guarantee that the bandits were lying in wait for them, but there also was no guarantee that they weren't. It was a tough call to make.

"I don't see why your all complaining." Yaen commented without any disdain. "After all, I'm barefoot. See?" he pointed out, lifting a foot and wiggling his toes. "But jokes aside, this is a bad fighting ground. They probably have some traps, too. Push one boulder down here, and we could all die." He said as he set his foot back on the hard earth.
"Not to brag, but it seems I have the best advantage here. I'm not wearing anything heavy, and my swords are much more versatile than an axe or spear." he pointed out. "Personally, I think we should get off the main path. Bandits are generally an unintelligent lot, but don't doubt their cunning. Anyone with half a brain can leave tracks and lead you to your death."

"You're also a nice pin-cushion for any bandit smart enough to use a bow, Yaen," replied Wein. "As long as none of you go running off from our little..." Wein looked back at their trail of horses, "...caravan, before I get a chance to take a shot at any hiding bandits, we shouldn't have to worry about friendly fire on my part." Wein rubbed the wood of his bow. "Just keep an eye out for anything fishy, and I'll do my best to get rid of any bandits before they get a chance to do anything crafty."

'No need to worry about that. Anyone with a bow would target the most obvious and clear target first.' Denzel said, as he sat high atop his horse, with his white shiny armor and his less then intimidating appearance. He was at the head of the pack of horses behind Selk. 'Selk, be sure to stay outta my path, if I hear a arrow coming first thing I'll do is charge forward. Honestly the safest from immediate assault here is Lilith, I haven't read any books on tactics yet but we all know how bandits are.'

Instead of climbing against the ground, Lilith was hopping daintily from rock to rock, going with the natural flow of the mountain. She smiled at Denzel's remark about her safety. "Yes, if there's one good thing about being the only girl in a group of fighters, it's that most warriors, even bandits are too honorable to kill 'a young damsel'. And I am ready as anyone to take the offensive. If poor Denzel is targeted, I will be off in the direction of the attacker at once."

'Not really what I was getting at Lilith.' Denzel said in an apolegetic way. 'And i am greatful.'

Yaen chuckled at Denzel and Lilith's antics. "I think what he means is they'd want you alive rather than dead." he said to Lilith. "But the fact remains. We're at a severe disadvantage on the mountainside. Especially when the enemy has the high ground. We need to try and keep them from noticing we're here untill we can actually get a bit of an edge against them. Otherwise, It's back to Mother Earth with me, and off to St. Elimine for you lot."

Wyatt glanced over at Yaen at his comment. "Quite the show of confidence aren't you? Anyway, I don't know how close we are, maybe we should have someone take a lookout?" He suggested.
Immediately he turned to Wein, who else would have better eyes? There were a number of spires and crags that could be used to find a high vantage point, but that would expose the person as well.
"You know what, scratch that. Too risky. Maybe we should try and send someone a little bit ahead to be a scout, and wave us on when it's clear?"
This time he glanced at Yaen. The Sacaens were known for being nimble, was that stereotype true?

"Will do." Selk gave a nod to Denzel in response to his words. He listened to what the group was planning, still trying to plan out a good move. So far it seemed like they'd gone unnoticed. If they could make it to the top, then they wouldn't have to worry about a very difficult and dangerous uphill battle. Selk was wearing heavier armor than the rest, so trekking uphill along the mountainside as they were was much harder and more tiring for him than the rest. The fact that he was still trying to get used to his armor didn't help any. "Heh...You know...if they're waiting for us at the top, I'm going to get really angry. I'll need to take a breather when we hit the top." Selk spoke in between breaths, doing his best to keep from stopping. He was still ahead of the horses, but only because it was rougher terrain for them than it was for him.

Wein looked back at Wyatt. "Actually, I disagree. Sending somebody to scout is a good idea, and it would probably be best to send two people. You know, they'll be able to watch each other's backs." Wein pointed farther up the "road" and pointed at two rocks adjacent to the road. "There are a lot of rocks on either side of the road as we go up, so not only would two fast moving scouts be able to remain unseen, but we are talking about bandits here. Even if they do see us, the time it would take for them to react to our presence would be ample time for us. It's better than getting ambushed."

When Wyatt started staring at him, Yaen just blinked and checked to see if there was someone behind him. "What, is there something in my-" Then it dawned on him. "....Oh. You want me to go ahead." He acknowledged with a shrug. "Okay. I want Wein to come with me, then." he insisted. "After all, out of all of us, he and I are probably best suited for this sort of thing."

Lilith smiled as she perched on the tip of a rock. "Wein's right, two is always better than one!" she agreed merrily. "Though I have to say, as a magic user, mt scenes are quite honed and able to detect things others would miss. like that fly that's been following Denzel's horse the entire way up here, it's driving me nuts!" she yelled, jumping from the rock she was on to another one, and doing a little spin upon landing.

"Yeah but, they are more experienced then us. And...well...while you've got skill with the book, you've..." How to say it without insulting her? "Got a rather slender build. It might be best to send someone more skilled then us ahead to scout. That way if trouble happens, they can survive long enough to get back to us."
Made perfect sense to him, and he glanced to the side, waiting the scouts actions.

Selk had little to say to the group. Seems their plans would work out fine to him. "Good luck, Yaen and Wein. Make it back in one piece, alright." He gave a smile and a nod to both of the newly appointed 'scouts' as they likely prepared for departure. I hope they know what they're doing. We still have a long way to go before we claim victory. If someone gets lost now, we're all in trouble.
