Denzel watched the two leave, a part of him kind of wanted them to get caught. I mean, if their cover was blown they could drop the stealthy approach and charge in. That's be so much easier. But caution goes before all, I suppose.

Wein hopped off of his horse, handing the reins to Selk Mar, then motioned for Yaen to follow. He untied his bow and notched an arrow, dashing up to the next hump in the road before ducking behind a rock. He poked out from behind the rock and got a good view of their surroundings, analyzing the terrain for the best ambush spots. He turned to Yaen and spoke in a slightly lower voice. "Up there would be primary ambush spots for bowman," said Wein, pointing towards clusters of rocks up on a ridge above them. "As for melee fighters, they could be all along this road, so it it would probably be best if you went first, you being a sword fighter and all."

Selk nodded to Wein again as he took the reins from him. He would wrap the reins around his hand and keep a tight hold so the horse wouldn't run free. "If anyone else would prefer to be on horseback, here's your opportunity. I'm not a practiced rider, so I couldn't make good use of him."

Lilith jumped on to another boulder and said, "I'm perfectly content walking, thank you. Besides, horses are really bad at moving in mountains, no offense of course, my equine friend," she smiled widely at the horse before grabbing on to a ledge above her and pulling herself up. "So are we to wait here while they go ahead, or will we follow behind them?" she asked before examining a stunted mountain tree.

"It's probably best for them to be ahead of us by a good distance, after all if we are right behind them it defeats the purpose of having scouts!" Wyatt explained, taking care to avoid kicking rocks or stepping on dry brush.
"I think they'll tell us when they see something of note."

Yaen nodded. "Well, yeah. I didn't ask you to come along so I could push you into an axe. Or did I?" Chuckling, the Sacaen unsheathed his slim sword and pulled himself over the rock. "Well, high ground may give us a better look around, though I'm not guaranteeing it, as dark as it is. Shall we check up there first?"

"Sure," said Wein, starting up one of the smaller cliff faces. Using the cracks and crags as natural hand and footholds, he slowly pulled himself up, making sure to take extra care due to the darkness. Reaching the top, he looked around. "Nothing..." he muttered, then paused. There was a small movement across the way, on top of a large rock. Silently, Wein strung an arrow, aimed his bow, then fired. The arrow sailed across the way, striking the target. A cry of pain sounded throughout the area, followed by shadowy movement all around them. "Damn," swore Wein. He turned back towards the rest of the group. "We've got company!" he yelled. "Most of them are down below, keep your guard up!"

Selk heard Wein's warning and quickly turned to face the group's rear. He tried to watch for any sudden movements. It was difficult, although he could see shadows quickly moving about. Down below, huh? That must mean they're coming back home for the night. Probably with some stolen goods from another poor village. Either that, or they set a trap for us. Are they that smart? I don't know. Selk kept as quiet as he could, since hearing his opponents could be just as valuable as seeing them in this situation.

Lilith heard Wein's warning and glanced down the ledge she was on. There were a bunch of bandits some with axes, others with swords, all with bad attitudes. She wordlessly leaped from rocks that were close to the edge, giving them a push down onto the bandits. "Let's teach them a lesson!" Lilith said to her comrades. She whipped out her black tome and started flipping through the pages, her eye's blurred by the speed she was skimming the incantations.

OOC: Just to explain, because I think views of this battlefield differ. This is how everyone is situated.
There is a long path, it snakes a little, but not radically. Wein and Yaen are near the top of this path. Lilith is off on the side of this path, in the more steep gradients among the rocks, while Selk, Wyatt and Denzel are still on the main road (Since two of them are on horseback, they would have to be.) Bandits are coming up from the south end of the path, and there is a small group in the front. The lions share of the forces are in the south.
IC: And things begun as usual, with a fight. Wyatt brought his axe down in front of him, holding it at the ready, when he became aware of a few things all at once.
Lilith wasn't anywhere near the group anymore and Wein and Yaen were a bit further ahead. So that left him and two lancer in the middle of the path. Selk was facing back, Denzel was still looking ahead, and Wyatt was left scanning the sides, watching for any kind of an ambush. They'd sort of fallen into it, but it wasn't a bad formation. It was when he was watching the sides that he noticed a series of events.
There was a group of bandits scattered among the main road, trying to approach without exposing themselves to the archer who had already nailed one of their number. And then rocks fell from a side of the cliff, was someone moving up there? Wyatt's eyes followed the path, and saw Lilith up the cliff. Not knocking the rocks by accident, but on purpose! The small rocks served no purpose short of drawing attention to herself as away from the group. After all, any rock she could push wasn't going to do any damage, and the cliff wasn't steep enough for them to gather any serious speed.
Unbeknown to the group, the still injured bandit leader was out with the small front group which was only him and three others, as the larger group came from behind. They already had them in a pincer attack, but now they could split them up too. He grabbed the swordsman next to him and said, quietly.
"Take three of 'em, go up there and grab that wench! Make it loud, make it obvious! If she's e'sposed those brats'll break formation ta be heroes, then we'll gut em!"
It was less then a blink of an eye before it became obvious that Lilith had attracted some unwanted attention, as a Swordsman, an archer and an axe user began converging on the rocks she used for cover.
The front where Wein and Yaen are seemed clear enough, and the three on the road had a close knit enough group that the bandits weren't going to risk a frontal assault.

Denzel scowled, he couldn't help Lilith if she was on the rocky surface off the path. His darted left, right back to the front. "Wyatt, can you go after Lilith? I think it would be best if me and Selk go up to Wein and Yaen crush the smaller group of bandits before their reinforcements arrive. I dunno whether there are still bandits in their base itself but this way we won't get attacked from two sides' Denzel trying to think clearly. Honestly, we should either leave a man here or do something to delay their main force first but I don't think we can spare anyone right now.

Aaron had been traveling some days now, traveling through some of his old stomping grounds. One of the farthest trips he had taken with his dad had brought them around here: to the hills of Lause.
He paused as he thought he heard something up ahead. It sounded like there was yelling up ahead.
"Thats strange" he said to himself "Last time I was here it was fairly peaceful." Aaron looked up and down the road before slipping behind some rocks and up the hill a little.
"Can't be to careful. " he decided
Aaron quickly grabbed his fire tome, and scurried up the trail behind cover of the terrain.

OoC: There are lions, too!? I'm screwed.
IC: Lilith was a pretty upset that she had made a pretty big mistake, but she managed not to panic too much. At least she had bought the others a little time. She took out a black stone and drew a line around herself, then muttered an incantation. The line became a band of dark energy, which she hoped would protect her from attack.
She then picked up a medium-sized stone and imbued it with dark energy. When she threw it at the archer, it seemed to go much faster than it should have. She had hoped that it would be enough to at least make the archer stagger and fall, making him unable to shoot at her. It was her first time trying any of these tactics outside of training, and she hoped her skills were up to the task.

Wein looked across towards Lilith to see a squad of bandits stalking towards her. She, not noticing them, began to pester an archer with a magically imbued stone. It seemed effective since the archer stumbled as the stone connected with his head.
Wein looked back towards the spot where he had seen the figure. It didn't look like anyone was still there. That, or they were hiding. Turning back towards Lilith, Wein notched an arrow. Taking aim, he let it loose, and it landed right in one of the bandits' backs. The bandit fell face first and the others scattered to hide behind rocks. "At least I got one," thought Wein, before yelling at Lilith.
"Lilith, watch o...!" was all he was able to manage before a bandit snuck up behind him, putting a hand on his mouth and a knife to his throat.

Selk acted as quickly as he could. He pulled his helmet up from the strap that held it at his waist and put it on tightly over his head. Although he could still see and breathe freely through the 'T' shaped opening on the front of his helm, it cloaked his face in shadow as he looked down the path at the various shadowed figures that approached. He jerked his lance from the strap on his back and took it boldly in both hands.
Selk heard the yells of his comrades as they spoke. He knew they were a ways up the path from where he, Wyatt, and Denzel were. "We don't have the time or the numbers to take on these guys with just us. We need the help of our comrades, and they seem to be occupied with some enemies of their own. Denzel, you can probably get there faster. Hurry and help them out. Wyatt...We have to hold them off somehow until our allies can back us up. Any ideas? And please, hurry. They're rapidly approaching."
One of the bandits had got slightly ahead of the group. He didn't seem to notice, either, as it seemed he was slightly intoxicated. He stumbled rapidly to and fro on the path as he clumsily rushed towards Selk and his two friends. Selk, already facing his foe, stepped forward and thrust his lance forward.
The bandit's left arm was grazed by the point of Selk's lance, which tore a piece of flesh off of his foe's arm. It wasn't a large chunk or anything. It was barely worthy of being called a wound. The force of the attack, however, along with the fact that this particular bandit was very drunk, caused the bandit to spin around slightly and fall flat on his back. He wasn't dead, but he did seem to be out of commission for a moment, since he mindlessly babbled something and then rolled over on his stomach rather slowly. He tried to get up, but he was too clumsy and fell face down again.
