"Well... Uhh... This is apart of my personal training... Yea my own training plan on how to become self relent just in case I get separated from my troop. I left my Wyvern at the camp, which the location I can't speak of, so I could see how it feels to be a foot unit. But the real question is, why are you traveling around?" A waitress came by and Hal had made his order.

Kessel snorted and almost choked on his food when he heard the recruit talk. He quickly downed the rest of his ale as he thought, "So, he's pretending to be a full soldier already. It happens all the time, but normally not until they've gotten some training..." Kessel glanced at the recruit's blue cloaked traveling companion. "Is this man the cause?" he speculated, gesturing for another ale and continuing his dinner, keeping his ears open.

Achaziah gave a rather 'off' looking smile to the young man when he finished speaking and then he replied, "I'm a monk, Hal. Ever since I came of age I've been traveling around Bern using my talents to aid and protect the people here. The events of the past have scarred this land, you know. You're a soldier after all....you were affected just as much as the common folk, I'd imagine." He crossed his arms after that and waited.

Hal looked at the table for a second, making a sadden face. "I only joined the army a couple months after that nomad took over. I lost a brother in that bloody war, I only joined to honor his name. The common folk was affected worse then the ones fighting, they lost loved ones while the threat of their homes being caught in the crossfire, the ones fighting had little time to worry about such things the only thing that mattered was going home alive. At least that's what I heard some guys say."
Hal looked around, seeing quite a few soldiers in the inn. He had wondered which one was to be his teacher come next morning.

It was going to be a cold walk.
Sarah Dulcimer's lance was laid on her shoulder as she daintily strolled the streets of her new home city, with her helmet held casually under her left arm. She had just been relieved of guard duty, which she was greatly thankful for. Tensions were running high, and she got dirty looks from everyone for being a part of the 'Ilian army'. But that was behind her. Now she could go and have dinner with her brothers, as they did whenever their schedules matched up.
Sarah rubbed her hands together to create friction and wondered where her knight was. Sir Alther, the son of one of her parents' old comrades, had agreed to take her under his guidance, and he really seemed to regret it. Sarah still hadn't quite gotten the hang of striking from the back of her mount, so he'd taken hers away for a while and made her practice her form on foot.
It struck Sarah as somewhat cruel to be reminding herself of this, so she purged the thoughts from her mind. "Happy thoughts!" she chanted, causing a few pedestrians to glance at her. Sarah's eyes darted downward. That was embarrassing...
She found the inn fairly easily, being used to the trek. Sarah opened the door and looked around. She couldn't see Derron or Sid anywhere, so she decided to pick the table. She noticed the soldiers in the place, but she recognized none of them. But then, of course, her eyes did land on someone whose name she sorta knew.
Sarah ran up to the wyvern rider and bowed her head. "Sir Kessel!" she said, trying to keep a modest face. "I would be ever so honored if you allowed me to sit with you! To be in the presence of a full-fledged warrior such as yourself would be wonderful!"

Kessel was enjoying his dinner. And his ale. He was spying on the new recruit with no problems. Then he noticed a blonde recruit walk in. "No," he thought, as he saw her looking around. "Please don't see me, please don't see me, please don't-"
"Sir Kessel! I would be ever so honored if you allowed me to sit with you! To be in the presence of a full-fledged warrior such as yourself would be wonderful!"
"Damn." He sighed, noticing almost everyone had stopped to look at them. He waved her down to the seat opposite him, saying, "Go ahead, take a seat. And don't call me sir. You're one of Alther's charges, right?"

Achaziah gave a half smile and nodded to Hal, "There's likely a great deal of truth to those words, Hal, but make no mistake....the soldiers suffered just as much as well....some of them ended the war with no home to return to and their close friends and families dead....."
As he finished speaking he took note of the young woman's arrival and her rather loud and over-excited greeting of the man just one table over from the one Achaziah and Hal were sitting at. It was an interesting scene. Probably not an enjoyable one for this Sir Kessel as the female recruit had called him.

A wide smile spread across Sarah's face, and she quickly plopped down in the seat in front of Kessel. "Thank you so much, Si- um, Kessel. And yes, I AM one of Alther's squires! Isn't he just fantastic?" she gushed, her green eyes shining. "A true man, strict but fair! So full of brave virility and- oh, I'm rambling." Sarah gave a sheepish grin and leaned forward. "You look pale, S- er, Kessel. May I buy you something to eat or drink?"

"Is this what Alther has to put up with all the time?" Kessel repressed a shudder. "He is a braver man than I."
Kessel struggled for a moment to recall her name, but it finally clicked. "Sarah, right? Well, if you notice, I am in the middle of eating dinner," he said wryly upon hearing the girl's question. He then lifted his mug and shook it, then said with a chuckle, "It wouldn't hurt though if you kept the ale flowing." Shifting tracks, he queried, "So, what are you doing here?"

Hal had started to pay more attention to the duo then the man in front of him. The girl said she was a squire too, at least he wasn't the only one around. "Umm... Excuse me I need to ask them two something." Hal got up and walked towards the table Kessel and Sarah were sitting at.
"Um... Excuse me, Kessel was it? Well my name is Hal Kailas and I'm searching for a man that used to be in the Bern army years ago. I'm sure you've heard of him, he goes by the name of Alan. He was branded a traitor by many, a hero to others. Have you heard anything about him since the bandit king incident?"

Achaziah wasn't exactly put in a good mood by the fact that Hal got up and left in the middle of a conversation, but at least he was polite about it. And the two at the table next to them whom Hal had moved to speak with both seemed to know each other. Maybe Hal thought they could help him with whatever plans he may have. Either way, Achaziah kept quiet for now and merely listened to them from where he sat. Alan? That name sounds familiar to me, but I can't recall where I heard it before. Hmm....The Bandit King incident is something I do remember. Ah....It will come back to me eventually.

The moment Kessel stopped speaking, the squire he was spying on stood up and walked over to them, and asked about Alan. Alan, of all people! He held up a hand to forestall Sarah's response. "One moment please, Sarah."
Turning to the squire, Hal Kailas as he introduced himself, Kessel sighed before saying, "Alan? Who among wyvern riders doesn't know of Alan?" He looked Hal straight in the eyes. "As for any news of him? None. As far as I know, after the bandit king incident, he disappeared. Why are you looking for him?"
OoC: Is this true? I haven't seen anything to refute this, but it seems as if Alan disappeared after the timeskip. If this is wrong, let me know, I might be able to do something different then.

OoC: That's what he told me when I asked about him.
BiC: "For the same reason he's well know. He's ruthless, the best there ever was, and a complete bad ass. Who else would be better to train me then him?" Hal had realized what he just said, he'd blow his whole lie if he left it like that. "I mean help me get better then I already am, almost made it sound like I was a newbie like this young lady... Heh" Hal had a nervous laugh at the end and turned to Sarah "No offense kind lady." He kinda bowed with that.

Most of the conversation was lost on Sarah. She had nothing to offer that Kessel didn't cover, and she was slightly bitter about being hushed. Her discontent was added upon when the young man commented on her being a 'newbie'.
Sarah's brow furrowed. "You don't look that much older than me!" she snapped, angry at Hal's pointing out her inexperience. She got up in a huff and approached the bar, slapping down several coins for a pitcher of ale(her youthful appearance apparently not bothering the keeper at all) and returned to the table with her face still sullen.
"Sir Kessel! Tell them how long I've been training!" she whined, setting the pitcher down.

Kessel thanked Sarah before sighing. "Back to Sir already?" Oh well, at least she had brought him some more ale. Ale made many things better. Like having to deal with arguing brats - which wasn't fair to them, seeing as he wasn't too much older, maybe 4 years or so - but meh.
"You know, she has a point," he said with a knowing look directed at Hal, as if to say I know the truth. "And besides, Sarah here has been training for a while under the honorable Sir Alther. Geezer that he is..." The last part he mumbled so that no one would hear.
Kessel, ale in hand, began outright examining Hal before saying, "Hal, even if you found Alan, I doubt he'd train you as you are now. He'd be more likely to leave you, and, if you pushed him too much, he'd probably kick the crap out of you. And that's putting it gently." The wyvern rider sighed before taking a swallow of ale. "Why do you want him to train you, other than him being the best and a 'bad ass' as you put it?"
