It had been a few days travel since they'd left Laus behind. The travel was uneventful, but Wyatt was happy to find he was at least able to keep up with the cart now. He'd been walking the whole way, with his new massive pack on his back.
When his companions asked him about it, he half smiled under the weight. "Master Sirus...he said a good smith has to carry all his materials...so he can do good work even in...the worst conditions." He finished after a moment. And that had been it, Wyatt would walk all the way and carry this beast of a pack everywhere he went. After all, we learn from the master.
And now he'd gotten used to it, so he could actually keep up and carry on a normal conversation, then something crossed his mind.
"Hey, I was thinking. Since we are in disguise, doesn't that make us random warriors? So, are we going to call ourselves a mercenary band?"

Selk, who had been merrily walking alongside the cart as well lost in his own thoughts, shrugged at Wyatt's words. "I guess that's as good a plan as any, Wyatt. If it'll keep us out of trouble I don't see a problem with it." He returned to gazing off on the horizon and thought, Looking back on the conversation I had with Sir Malachi at the tavern...I think he was right. I feel like I have changed a little after that fight. Staring down that group of bandits thinking I had no one to back me up....it was the most scared I've been in my life. I'm not even sure what drove me to rush down at them alone. Maybe that's what it feels like to be brave....or to be too foolish to know which is which. I guess I won't know unless I try again. All I know for sure is that I have to protect these people. They've put their trust in me. And that's all I really have to offer them back at the moment.

"Yeah, I suppose that would be our identity. Why, you have a name for us in mind?" Denzel said, who, neither walking nor bearing significant burden as per his disguise wasn't unwilling to partake in conversation.

Aaron closed the Fire tome he had been reading through and sat up from his place on the cart. He laughed quietly as he spoke. "You know, I'm always reading stories about groups of people who come together and form a of heroes. They get a team name, are hailed as heroes, stuff like that. It just occurred to me that that that's pretty much what we're doing."
"So what kind of name would suit us? An archer, a mage, fighters professional and by necessity." Aaron said to the others nodding in turn to each.

Wein just grinned at Aaron. "I think you're reading a bit too much into this," he said with a chuckle. "It's just a mercenary scouting mission. We're not liberating the oppressed peoples of Elibe from dragons and the like." Wein looked up at the sky. "Imagine being a hero, though. Imagine the entire world knowing your name," he said wistfully. His eyes seemed to glaze over. "I mean, at that point, you'd know you've done something right." Shaking his head, he looked towards Wyatt.
"I wouldn't be able to think of anything, can you?"

Malachi was happy to have changed his mind and stuck with the group, why exactly he did change his mind not even he knows. Malachi chuckled at Aaron's comments, "I could care less about what were called, as far as I'm concerned I just hope that we'll get out of all this alive." Malachi looked around at the group, they're all so young, it was hard to believe that they'd be going on such a dangerous mission. He was walking next to the cart, in front of Selk, wondering exactly how old he was now. Malachi felt so much older being around such young warriors. He shook his head not wanting to concern himself with such things as his age and tried to enjoy the nice day.

Wyatt thought for a moment. "Well...most groups I've heard of from the bards take their names from some accomplishment or defining characteristic..." He said aloud. "But it's gotta be something that really grabs the ear, that sounds important and powerful."
It was clear his still teenage mind was mulling over this with great delight. One might think he would be more concerned with their mission, but some things are simply the folly of youth.

"I'd rather have peace and quiet than a world-wide reputation." Yaen commented bitterly. "Before you start talking about all the glory, try to think a little on the pain. Hero's aren't some magical forces that spring up over night. They're people, like you and me, that for some reason have decided that instead of living a peaceful life, they would rather gallant about and slay creatures and go on pointless quests simply so the world will know who they are are. If I were you, I'd stop a second and think if thats really the kind of life you'd want to live. Risking everything just so some bard will mention you in a tune after your long dead." The Sacaens eyes were rather hard, and now and then, he would put his hand over his chest, as if there was a pain there.

Wein flared his nostrils and looked at Yaen, clearly miffed that Yaen was belittling his dream. "You make it sound like heroes are all about show, no substance," he said with annoyance. "You can't become great by doing nothing. Even an evil man has to work to become known. Heroes give people hope. Heroes inspire. They're the light in otherwise dark times." Wein held out his arms for effect. "You say they're just normal people, and that's what makes them so great. They're normal people who've become something more." Wein put his arms down and looked forward. "I mean, it was a group of heroes who ended the Scouring. If they weren't there, your quiet peaceful life would be nothing but a dream."

Selk overheard Yaen and Wein talking and he chuckled as he decided to add his own thoughts on the matter, "Heh....don't get bent out of shape, Wein. Although Yaen makes a good point, so do you. I think Yaen's not necessarily tryin' to stop anyone from becoming a hero. He's just tryin' to put the consequences in a realistic view. I can't blame him for that. If at the end of it all I couldn't go back and be with my family at least one more time on the farm peacefully, I'd be a very unhappy guy. Still, the thought of people knowing my name and word of my deeds inspiring people to go out and be the best they can...well that's alright with me, too."

Wyatt watched the exchange back and forth, and added himself.
"Well, I was just talking about making up a name for us so our disguise works better. I mean, I guess being well known would be pretty nice, but I don't think most of us are anywhere near being ready for that, or on that level yet. Maybe one day..."
He let the sentence drift off. "Yeah, maybe I got ahead of myself. We should probably wait until we do something of merit to start acting like it."

Aaron listened to the others. Selk had brought up some good points. On his trip so far, Aaron had been pulled onward by the desire to see it all. He traveled forward, because there was no going back. Only new experiences for him. Selk had reminded him that he had a family at home. One he would return to someday.
Still, the depth of his thoughts had little effect on him. "Well, I guess we all have our own tales to tell, all have our own dreams to claim. I'd like to be an inspiration for others, but you're right, I'm nowhere near skilled enough to worry about my renown."
Aaron was still thinking, trying to come up with a name for the group. It was difficult since he didn't know them very well yet. He did, however, believe they all had dreams they could chase. "Maybe that could be relevant to the name we choose."

'Well, no point to stand around here thinking about it.' Denzel sighing as an awkward silence hit them. 'Though I do hope that one day everyone will be wanting to know our names, that day is far off still. For now we should pick up the pace to move towards that future.' Denzel knew that those of his companions that were on foot were probably thinking "ease for him to say" but their group held things in better humor then that, or at least he thought so. Besies, someone needed to say it.
With that the supposed band of mercenaries continued on their journey.

The silence had gone on for a bit until Denzel decided to break it. Selk smiled at what Denzel had said. It was true....both metaphorically and literally. If they wanted to succeed on both terms then they'd have to pick up the pace.
Selk's smile didn't seem to fade, either. As they moved along he thought.... Well, Wyatt, Aaron, and Denzel....as long as I have my dreams to hold on to, my family's support, and a group of friends like you all....I think I'll be alright either way.

Wein just kept his mouth shut. He'd always had big dreams, and he knew what it felt like to let go of them. It did seem, though, that everyone had their own dreams, even Yaen. His was just a bit less grandiose. It wasn't so much that Wein wanted the power and the glory, as much as he just wanted acknowledgment. He just wanted somebody to know he'd done something right.
