The zombies slowly pressured the soldiers' formation as the army moved towards the villa. The other force had successfully managed to clear out the civilians and were attempting to escort them out of the city. The occasional group of undead would attack them, but not enough to cause significant harm. Richter's force would go to the villa and stave off the zombies while The Herald escaped, or at least that was Richter's plan.
Richter looked out from the middle of the force. Casualties seemed to be at a minimum. These were just dead bodies after all. They were no match for a fully fledged army. Even with the casualties taken from the destruction of Ostia, the Etrurian army would have been a force to be reckoned with against a living army. The problem would be for any stragglers. Richter glanced around. He couldn't see Clair, Kynlis, or Theian anywhere. Had they gone with the others?

Theian takes the head of one monster and decapitates it before throwing it at another one. "Friend, huh? What's his name? Can he fight, or is that axe just for show? Jya, try using your blade as a stabby friend. Two stabs in the arms will knock it off." Theian grabs his water, and takes a drink. One zombie jumps toward the water, and spills it. "Wait here, and kill as many as possible. I'VE GOT A CANTEEN TO AVENGE!"
He wrestles the zombie, screaming the entire time. He eventually punches a hole in his center, which Theian uses to slice the zombie into two halves... One bites him in the arm, and he screams. That one hurt, big time. "Ack! CANTEEN MURDERER! PREPARE TO ENTER YOUR GRAVE. AGAIN."

Lyar smirked, before hefting his axe, looking oddly serious from how he was a few moments ago," Hey, how's about I just show you, huh? After all: Axes are better at chopping." he hoisted the weapon up, and decapitated one of the strange things with a clean chop of his axe, before looking back to Jya," Come on buddy! Hop on my back, I can get us out of here!" he smiled happily for having made a new friend, before watching as the man known as Theian started flailing around, screaming something about a zombie murdering, and getting himself hurt. That was a bad way to play the game.

Jya struggled for a minute, she had not climbed on anybody since Alcibie. Her size had prevented such a thing to happen, but now this man was awfully large. Looking around the area, everywhere seemed more dangerous than the last. Sighing, she hopped onto Lyar's back and clang onto him like she had before in the past. The feeling seemed so very familiar and she actually felt herself sigh with a relief.
"Hey can I climb onto your shoulders? I have decent eyesight, I think," recalling what Valorian had said back at the march into this nightmare.

"I'd prefer if you did. My eyesight...well, let's just say it's not as great after that time me and my buddies dove off the side of the ship...they were tied up with chains when they did it, but I was too tired to have to go through with that effort." he didn't know they were actually just kicking prisoners off the ship, as he assisted his little friend up," Alright then, which way?"

Jya sat upon the giant's shoulders, quite disturbed at Lyar's description of something fun. Well people were different and this man was especially no exception. Theian seemed quite capable of doing stuff, so she chose the path with the least resistance.
"Hey lets head over that way, maybe we can bump into some of my comrades," Jya declared pointing towards a large area of opening. So in this way, if those zombies came for them, Lyar would have a decent enough room to slash at. While there was another path that didn't seem to have any, but there could some right around the corner.

A low gurgle was now flowing through the city; it seemed as if all undead were making the same, low, mumbling sound and more and more bodies were rising. Some where heavily burned, others missed limbs, but nonetheless, they were walking. And the sound... it engulfed the city. It was the annoying scratch at the roof of your mouth, that would heal if only you would stop tonguing it all the time. Some men had put their helmets one, and tried to ignore the sound while fighting. Others just slashed away at the undead, wanting to make them stop. The low gurgle seemed to be bring the undead in a trance and they started to troop together, forming a large mass that kept approaching the Etrurian forces.
When Richter arrived at the Villa, he saw that it was already being evacuated. Some Illian and Bern mercenaries; with pegasi and wyverns, were evacuating important documents and persons. The Herald was one of the last to leave and only one High Commander was left behind. He now had control over what was left of the city. Other groups had thought the same as Richter and had arrived at the villa. The villa wasn't big enough to hold all men, so archers, monks and mages were positioned on the roofs and the walls, while the soldiers had to fight on in the streets.
Somewhere a priest was preaching maniacally; "THEIR IS NO REST FOR THE WICKED ON THIS EARTH, THE WICKED MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN OF OSTIA HAVE RISEN, FOR THEY HAVE PEACE. ONLY THROUGH THE CLEANSING OF SINS THEY WILL FIND PEACE, BURN THEM! BURN THEM! BURN THEM ALL!" He said with a rough voice. Wild-eyed some mages started hurling fireballs at buildings, causing Ostia to burn once more. Slowly, a fire was erupting in different parts of the city, where other bands of soldiers had formed pockets of resistance. Most soldiers believed what the priests and monks said. The citizens of Ostia had been wicked and now they showed their true faces.
The High Commander approached Richter, who was coordinating his soldiers.
"High Officer! We will have to make our stand here! The Herald has gone outside the city to form a front. A signal will be given when we are ready to leave. Meanwhile, we'll try to get all soldiers in here. Most soldiers are outside the city, they'll form a front so that none of these buggers can leave the city. After we got the signal, we'll move out! And then... we'll burn this wicked city!" The High Commander slapped Richter's back and moved of to another Officer that seemed to be rallying his troops.
At the villa, horns were heard. All troops in the city heard the horns and tried to fight there way to the villa, but hordes of zombies were in their way, and while the undead weren't too strong, they were very numerous, vile and sickening. Abominations, wicked monsters. Outside the city, the Herald and his Generals landed, and tried to get their soldiers in orderly lines. They started to build a small pallisade around Ostia, and started setting up a front. Everything that would leave that city, and wasn't alive, would be dead by the time they had left one of the gates. Then, when all soldiers were evacuated, the city would burn once more. But this time, nothing will be left to rebuild. But it took time, and the Herald prayed that his soldiers could hold on.

Valorian stepped back to give Aleth room to battle with the creature, but when she seemed unable to muster the force for a clean hit, he knew this wasn't going to go well.
"I'll try to trip it up, we need to find some of my other comrades or the army's base, this is futile!" He said to her, advancing on the creature and aiming to knock out one of it's legs. As the staff made contact, the creature crumpled much easier then he expected, and ceased moving.
Valorian was confused, but the sounds of shuffling feet told him that there were more coming. "Come on! I've got people I need to find before this turns into a slaughter!"
He was most concerned about Jya, but he knew he shouldn't be. She was a resourceful one, she'd be ok.
But this girl didn't come with them...was she an Ostian? It might not be wise to find the army with her in toe...But with this panic, he doubted anyone would begrudge another fighter.
And with that he started moving down the street, pausing to wait for her to catch up.

Clair heard a bow twang and an arrow go flying, followed by a curse. Clair turned and saw an arrow sticking out of the walking corpse. Another arrow soon followed, this time to the head, and the monster dropped.
Clair turned again and had her lance readied this time. She drove her slim lance into the torso of the nearest, then pulled it free and swung the weapon like a staff. One of her mentors had taught the reluctant student to use it as more than a stabbing weapon. The swing crushed the head of the target and it dropped to the ground.
Clair jumped back when she saw the corpse she had speared earlier climbing to it's feet again. The pegasus squire stood transfixed by the sight but was jolted back into action when Corona snorted and drove forward. His eyes were wild and he looked as alarmed as Clair.

Theian looks around, fires have broken out. The entire city was burning. "Jya, we have to..." Apparently, they had run off. Theian grabs another monster and throws it into a burning building. Ahh, nothing like the smell of burnt flesh in the evening. Morning, the smell should be toasted bacon. Wait, I'm getting sidetracked! "JYAAAA! COME ON!" He runs forward, noticing that a lot the the undead were still alive. Theian grabs his sword, and uses the flat side to push them into the fires. The more dead, the happier Theian is.
"Where's Richter? Are we the stragglers? THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR MY PAYCHECK! RUUUUN!" He runs faster, putting his sword away while picking up two burning sticks. As he runs, he runs the burning end on the monsters, setting them on fire. The lit monsters run off, lighting more of them as they run. He may be running, but that is no excuse for not killing masses of monstrocities, even if his cash was at risk.

Aleth followed the little magical clergyman, knowing what she said to be true. This whole situation confused her more than anything, but she followed, best not to complain and just hope for survival.
"Alright, by the looks of thinks, those things don't like me and you help, and I might have a friend that pops out around here," Aleth replied catching up. She wouldn't be surprised if the world blew up at any moment now.

"Not a single one of these abominations will make it past me," said Richter, nodding to his superior officer, then moved up front to take up command of the defending troops. He'd hold the villa until he made sure everyone was safely out of the city. He'd left the little girl, Mary, with one of the soldiers evacuating the city. Keeping her with him would have been far too dangerous. He'd make sure she was all right when this was all over.
Standing with his fellow soldiers Richter brandished his sword and stood at the ready, bracing for the undead onslaught. Richter could never stay in the back lines giving orders. This was how he liked it. This was the only time he truly felt alive.
Then the zombies came, like syrup onto a rock. They weren't fast, and they weren't harsh, but they applied strong and constant pressure. You couldn't rebuff an enemy that didn't feel pain. You had to utterly destroy them.
"Attack their heads!" shouted Richter to his men. "It's the only way to kill them!" A zombie came grappling onto Richter. In response, the battle hardened commander punched the zombie in the chest, pushing it off, then thrust his sword into the monstrosity's eye. Blood gushed all over Richter's sword as he unsheathed it from the zombie's skull. A soldier next to Richter dropped his sword and fell to the ground as he was rushed by an undead. The monster bit at the man's arms as he covered his face. Tearing the zombie off of his comrade, Richter severed the body's head. He handed the soldier his dropped sword. "If you want to live, fight without fear!" Richter barked, then turned back to the zombie horde. This fight would be a long one.

Kynlis, after felling one of the creatures, turned when she heard Corona snorting, only to see the pegasus knock down one of the zombies and crush it's head with it's hooves.
Even with that, there were still several more creatures shuffling their way toward the girls. Kynlis glanced around before spotting a fairly intact house with a door still on its hinges.
"Let's try and get to that house there," she said to Clair, pointing to the house. "Maybe we can hole up in there until some help arrives. I'll cover you." As she said the last part, she loosed another arrow, cursing as it took one of the creatures in the leg, disrupting its balance and causing it to fall but not killing it.

Clair heard Kynlis and looked at the building. "We can try! let's get over there." Clair made a dash for the door, and managed to pick up her bundle where it had been dropped earlier. She had just been given her new uniform, and she wasn't going to lose it if she could help it.
The house was one of the few single story buildings in the area. Clair made it into the building and was looking for the best place to hide when she was attacked by zombies inside the house. A lance was not a good close quarters weapon to be using, but she managed to score a good hit on one of the monsters' heads, making it collapse un-lifeless.
As Clair was being pushed back, she backed into a counter top. Corona heard the scuffle from outside, and flew up, landing on the roof. That's when Clair heard her pegasus scream and felt a shudder run through the building. Part of the house collapsed in, crushing most of the zombies as Clair dove for cover. The table snapped as Corona landed on it. cabinet's broke open and jars of jams and preserves shattered, splashing on Clair.
There was a scuffling in the rubble as Clair coughed from the storm of dust and dirt kicked up. She headed over and tried to reach Corona.
"Corona! Hang on! bleh." She spit out some dirt and wiped her face with the back of her arm.

Lyar just kept barreling down alleyways and streets like a rhino, swerving past and through zombies while holding Jya securely above on his shoulders. Around this point he heard a loud snapping sound as the fraction of a roof of a nearby house which his friend jack built (ooc: reference) collapsed. Figuring more people would be inside the play with, and the sounds of a horse he could hear, and thus ran in it's direction, ducking under the door as to not smash his little friend's head on the top, before looking at the sight: Winged Horses and a girl covered in tasty looking jam? He was jealous for not having a flying horse and not having jam, as his stomach rumbled, but he had to worry about that later. He knelt down as to let Jya down, before grabbing his axe just in case those ugly dead smelling things came at them again.
