"Boy we just crossed a road." standing out Garnet's side, he gave the man a pat on the side with his free hand, before setting Arren down after fireman carrying him out of the fray: they didn't have any real time to think and Francis certainly wasn't a man for deep battle plans, thus he sat down, sticking a long piece of sourgrass in his mouth which he had crumbled in his pocket, and chewed it slightly: something he'd picked up to help tide over hunger pangs which had then turned to habit now that his bandit brawling, people pillaging, food famine days were over.
"We'll be safe once we get this mission done, get our gold, and get the h--- out of there." he flashed a smirk here," Say, you was pretty good back there Garnet ole boy! Don't see why you were denying being Garnet the Glorious, seeing how skillful your combat skills were back there!"

Arren sat down next to Francis and watched him eat sour grass. It was a weird thing to see, but he had seen his dad do it as a survival technique. Arren was never fond in eating grass; so instead Arren pulled out an apple and slowly munched on it. Arren looked over at Garnet. "Yeah, Garnet you were pretty good out there." Arren said as he eyed the sour grass wondering what it tasted like. "And you too Francis, I've never seen such a fighting style, where did you learn it?" Arren asked as he eyed the almost barbaric man. Something seemed familiar about this man, he just couldn't put his finger on it. Arren decided it was nothing and resumed munching on his apple.

Garnet soothed Fable a bit more, dragging out a bag of biscuits, and tossing one at Francis Arren, and even that quiet, dancing girl, before taking one out for himself, along with an apple of his own (He'd leave the dried fruit for later in the trip.). If Francis wanted an apple, he could get it himself, bu he seemed to be enjoying his "salad".
"We all did well back there, but the bandit's were stupid. If they'd rushed all at once, we would have been crushed by numbers." A reminder of the importance of a bit of strategy from the people at G.A.R.N.E.T.
"As to the name..." Garnet groaned. He went over, dropping the horses reins, and took a seat at their impromptu camping ground. He bit into the fruit, thinking about what it could be that bugged him. "Do I really deserve Glorious? Francis, you're plenty formidable, and mages can do some awesome things, but glorious... it just seems to imply more than being a skilled fighter. I don't know that I can live up to that." Or want to for that matter....

Francis laughed as he began to munch on the biscuit. Good food, Good Friends, and Good jobs...he was going to hget used to this," Well Arren, if you weren't noticing, I fight just like all them other bandits do...not sure exactly how I do better than them, really..." he had to pause as he scratched the bottom of his chin: exactly WHY was he better if he fought the same as their opponents? Was it all luck? Or was there some sort of divine force guiding him?
He grinned at that last thought. Nah it was probably all the living on the plains that made him just a bit faster...yeah, that was most likely it...Garnet began to speak about some sort of pesimistic garbage, so he abruptly turned and gave the man a hearty pat on the back," Hey easy on yourself there big guy! It's not just one's skill that counts! It's how they use it! I could be the best axeman in the world for all we know, but look at what I used to do: pillage villages and slaughter people! That doesn't make me glorious now does it? Whereas you travel around and help people!" He paused, finishing the rest of the biscuit and spitting out the sour grass, as it ran out of flavor," I dunno about you, but helping people is a pretty glorious thing, eh?"

Garnet felt the light smack on his back. What Francis said made sense. Somewhere, Garnet had lost track of what he was doing here, his decision to work as a defender of those who couldn't stand up for themselves. I just wish I could have done more for my home...
"You're right, Francis. Can't say as there's anything more worthy than that." His mood brightened, taking on a peace that he hadn't been able to get consistently for a long time. He remembered his talk with Fargo, the young archer, how helping him learn to deal with the consequences of combat had helped ease his own pain some. And on meeting Alcibie, the bar mistress in Laus, and a fellow Etrurian, it had helped him to see that even an Etrurian could find a place to live in Lycia. This reminder of what he was doing helped him re-establish his purpose in his mind. The vengeance towards the prophet he craved, would not help people, but removing the Prophet would. He couldn't let his personal feelings get in the way of his purpose to establish a safer world.
"Heh, we'll just hafta see if the people we work around think I'm worthy of the name!"
Garnet finished his dinner. The sounds of the night were beginning to envelop them. "Looks like we've run out of light. We should make camp, but I don't think we can risk a fire. Any objections?"

Arren looked over to Francis as he gave Garnet a pat on the back. Garnet looked and seemed like a good man, and from what he's heard from Francis, he thought he was a good man. Arren wished he could have done something. "I've never really done any good or helping. Considering my parents were drunks and I grew up alone, I never really had a chance. But no better time then the present right?" Arren said as he adjusted his position on the ground.
"I agree fire would be too risky at night, I'm fine with it. Unless Francis isn't afraid of the dark." Arren joked as he elbowed Francis in the arm. Arren would probably rather not have a fire. It gave him a chance to look at the stars. Arren remembered when him and his father would lie outside counting them all. He missed his father but he wasn't going to get teary eyed now. He had to man up and move on.
