"G-gone?" The news hit him pretty hard. "I... I haven't heard a thing about it..." He said quietly, looking down at the table. He didn't really talk to many people when he was back in Caelin, he was always a more introverted kind of person. He's always been that way, desiring travel, adventure, but at the same time fearing it. As far as he knew, Ostia was still sitting there pretty and unconquerable... but... apparently he was very very wrong.
Ostia was gone, and Etruria was responsible. Now it made sense, why they were traveling to unite Lycia. No one talked about it at the camp, unpleasant memories it seemed. Though, now that he thought back, little things that were odd at the time made sense now that he knew the truth.
B-burnt to the ground? That's... horrible. Why... why would anyone want to do such a thing? "It's... ok. I'm sorry for being so ignorant." He fell silent and didn't even want to speak. He would of said he lost his appetite over thinking of such a thing, if he hadn't been so hungry. In his mind ran gruesome simulations of what could of happened there.
He didn't even notice Kelvin and Chelsea no more then ten feet away, also it took until the exact moment the pirate walked up to them for him to realize he was even there. "Huh?" He said looking up, then recalled what that garbled noise he ignored was. "Oh, sorry. I'm Valcrist, nice to meet you Captain Mikar..." He took the hand and shook it to be polite then returned to his pensive state.

The pair walked into the cafe and sat down at a table off alone in a corner. Kelvin, looking around, spotted Harlow, Valcrist, and Mikar off at one table. He called a waiter over so he could order his food. "Don't worry about paying," he said, adding a small wink. The waiter came over and asked, "What will you be having?" Kelvin thought for a moment, then decided on an order, "I'll have the beef stew," he said.

"I'll have the same, please. And could I please have some water? Thank you!" As the waiter walked away, Chelsea turned to Kelvin. She had yet to spot Valcrist, Harlow and Mikar. "This place seems nice. Perfect little place for a first date." She gave him a little wink and giggled. She quickly poked his leg with her foot under the table and gave him an innocent face. "Wasn't me!"

Mikar looked at the man who seemed to be sad. It seemed to be a common theme for him. Last time he saw him he was sad about something else. Usually Mikar wasn't concerned with other people's misery, in fact he usually found it funny.
"Somethin' wrong lad?" Mikar said with a concerned look on his face. Ever since Mikar joined this army, his attitude towards life changed... for somethings. Lawrence said goodbye in the background, but all Mikar did was put up a hand.

Harlow was shaken out of his stupor by a large hand on his shoulder. It was Mikar, the pirate from before.
"Oh? Mikar, it's you! You startled me there! Heh, fancy meeting you in here. " He was sort of glad the pirate had showed up. It helped to break the gloomy mood about - Mikar seemed to be good for that.
He let his eyes wander as Mikar talked to Valcrist. Over there on the other side of the room he spotted Kelvin and Chelsea ordering their own meal. Hah! Looks like they've made up, all right. I should sure think so, the way she's teasing him with her foot right now...

Kelvin rolled his eyes, but then chuckled a little, "Yeah, I'm sure it was just the rats," he said, smiling. "You know, for being in an army, it's been fairly quiet on this journey. I haven't been in a battle since... since that battle Merio and I had in that bandit-infested house." Suddenly remembering the embarrassing near loss, he blushed a little. "Come to think about it, if Saffra hadn't showed up, I wouldn't be here right now. But I'm not complaining. I'd much rather enjoy a moment like this than be caught up in a battle."

The archer gave another giggled. "I'd rather you be alive too. Otherwise, who's pay for this?" She giggled and gave him a big grin. Her face, however, soon fell. "I haven't actually been in a fight. Ever. I'm kinda nervous that I'm gonna mess up... That I'm gonna get hurt... I mean, I know I'm good with a bow, but I don't know if I'll be able to keep my cool in a fight... What if someone gets upclose to me? I can't defend myself..." She looked across the table with a very worried look on her face.

"It's nothing, I'm sorry for making you concerned. You don't have to worry about me though, I'll be fine." He looked up at Mikar, a forced grin on his face. His mouth looked... happy? But his eyes were skewed up and looked sad. He felt bad on many levels. He felt horrible about the truth of Ostia, and how he learned about it. He felt horrible for Harlow, about how his home was destroyed and felt guilty about bringing it up so mindlessly. He felt guilty and uneasy about Chelsea, his feelings and how they fit with anything. He felt horrible about... well... everything. He thought back to his picture he drew earlier, a lone shape amongst a sea of chaotic lines.
Where's the speck of light in this?

"You don't have to worry about that," Kelvin said, looking into Chelsea's eyes, "If anyone even thinks about hurting you, I'll skewer them so fast, they'll regret ever coming out way." Kelvin gave her an affirming grin. "Just stay close to me, and you'll be out of harm's way. If you wanted to, you could even ride on Kashmir."

"If you're sure you're okay..." Mikar said not sure if he could trust him. Mikar turned to Harlow, "Nice place isn't it, where'd you learn of it?" Mikar said with a smile on his face. He didn't know why he was happy, he just learned his wife had died. But this wasn't news,it was obvious she did. She was old, pregnant and alone. But their child was out there and he got his manly sea journal back. He had to be in a good mood.

"I lived here in Laus for a short time a few years back and ended up working a few odd jobs for the owner of this cafe. I make it a point to eat here any time I pass through Laus." Harlow flashed a smile, trying extra hard to be cheery in hopes of lightening Valcrist's mood. "It's still the best place in Lycia, if you ask me. Here, try a little of this stew if you don't believe me."
He handed Mikar his fork and changed the subject. "So you sure seem to be in a good mood, my friend. What's got you feeling so chipper - or are you always like this?"

Mikar took a bite from the fork Harlow handed him. "Mmmm! Delicious!" Mikar said as he licked his lips. "I can see why you come back here so often." Mikar smiled as he was eying the mans food still hungry after eating. "I don't know, a bunch of good things are happening. I got a new horse, I met an old friend, I got my journal from a long time ago back. Everything is just turning out for the better." Mikar said as he looked behind him and saw Kelvin and Chelsea. "Looks like they made up quickly" Mikar said nodding towards the couple.

Chelsea gave him a smile. "Thank you Kelvin... It really means a lot to me. I don't think I'll ride with you, though. I have Spirit." She rested her hand on his, smiling happily. It was a huge weight off her mind, knowing that she's had someone protecting her up close so that she could focus on her bow. She barely even noticed when their food came. It was strange. All she could focus on was Kelvin.

Harlow nodded. "Yes, well, it was a silly dispute anyways. I'm glad they're on such good terms again. Tension between even two people in a group fouls up the air for everyone else."
He took another bite of his stew and let it sit on his tongue for a bit, savoring the taste. Looking at Valcrist, he could see some discomfort in the lad. His gloom seemed to be getting worse, which was disquieting - what in the world could be wrong with him? Maybe it had something to do with the news of Ostia. That was enough to discourage anyone. Maybe he and Mikar could cheer him up.
"Hey, Mikar, maybe you could entertain us with a little story of your captaining days to pass the time while we wait for Lady Cus and the others to finish their business at the castle. Or better yet! You look to me like the kind of guy who wouldn't be bashful in front of a crowd. Sing us a sea shanty, something you and your crew would sing together while you rolled across the waves! Come on, I'll buy you a drink in return! Songs about the ocean can always help to brighten the mood." He winked at the former captain and nodded at Val, trying to get the hint across. He didn't mean to put Mikar on the spot, but hey, he seemed like he could take it.

Kelvin looked into Chelsea's eyes, simply allowing himself to be lost in the moment. Looking back on the past two weeks, Kelvin realized how lucky he was that everything had worked out. And spending more time with Chelsea had affirmed his first thoughts. He was definitely in love. Kelvin looked down for a moment and realized that his food had arrived. Laughing, Kelvin said, "When did this get here? Well, let's eat."
