Amelinde chuckled at his comment about her having a Pegasus and him not having one. "Look, silly, I'm not glued to my Pegasus. I can fight on the ground as well, even if it isn't my strong suit. Besides, that might give you a fighting chance." She dismounted from Alcyone and gripped her lance in her hand. She poked the remains of the fruit with the point and smirked. "Well, you can certainly outclass an apple, I'll give you that much. Of course I'm suggesting that we spar. I won't have you along with me unless I think you've got what it takes to keep up, see? Unless you're too much of a gentleman to spar with a lady?" She teased.
She took up a fighting stance opposite of his and stared him down. "All right, Kentaro, show me what you've got. If you can land a good, solid blow on me, then maybe I'll be convinced to let you ride with me." She realized she was boasting a lot right now. She reminded herself that while it was helpful to put on the appearance of being cocky, it wouldn't do to actually underestimate any opponent. Maybe mind games could psyche Kentaro out, but it wouldn't do to impair her own judgment. Thus, she would let Kentaro make the first move.
"It's up to you, boy. Show me what you've got."

"Well, yes. I'd imagine so. It'd be physically impossible to eat, sleep, and complete such other small tasks on the back of a winged steed. And if there is such a being alive that complete all those things and more, then he or she is truly blessed with a skill beyond all our comprehension."
He looked at the ground for a brief moment. "Yeah. That apple never stood a chance, did it?" Again with an attempt at humor, and then he tapped his boots with his lance. "Alright, I'll give you what you want. It's not like I havn't had to defend myself from the likes of a lovely lady such as yourself." In truth, all he had ever done when he had come across a female was defend himself until they decided that they had had enough of him. It was just too awkward, and he hadn't wanted to lay a single scratch on their pretty faces. He was very chivalrous, although slim to none had ever given him the chance to show such a thing.
"It's not like I really have a choice in the matter after all, correct?" He planted the pole end of his lance into the ground momentarily, then sent it flipping above him with a kick, landing it back in his hands and straight into the stance that he had held before. "I feel bad, taking you out of your element on your pegasus and all, but nonetheless, no excuses. I'll give you all I've got." He slid his stance down just a bit more. "Here I come!"
During combat, Kentaro's concentration level soared through the roof. Nothing could stop his relentlessness and planned strategies. He plunged his lance around wildly left and right, up and down, in an attempt to make it harder for Amelinde to set up her attacks. His ultimate goal? To get her off balance and tap her on the shoulder specifically, with no harm done in between, to prove his worth.

Amelinde was unsure exactly what Kentaro was trying to do, flinging his lance around like that. It wasn't like he was going to actually hit her that way, but he wasn't exactly providing her with any good opportunities to counter, either, so she simply sidestepped is lunges and tried to observe any patterns in his attack.
"Don't worry, friend, about any unfair advantage you think you may have. An advantage is easily overturned with a little... leverage." With that, Amelinde, finding what seemed to be an opening in Kentaro's attack pattern - which seemed focused towards her upper body - swung the butt-end of her lance in an arc towards his ankle, hoping to sweep him of his feet.
(OOC: Sparring works best if you describe your actions more specifically so I know how to have my character respond - just saying)

"Very well then," he thought as she exchanged her words right back at him. "She's moving really fast. Although it's never a problem for anyone to figure out the path of which I am swinging at after a few moments go by, but I can tell that she's doing more than just reading them. I can tell that she's a true strategic master.
Swinging his lance around rather rapidly, he had just barely noticed a low swing of the non lethal side of his opponent's armament.
"Damn," he said while acting on instinct and shoving his lance into the ground blade first, allowing it to serve as a sort of post for him to temporarily levitate himself off the ground with so as to avoid the attempted strike to throw him off balance. The lance was brought down, causing him to slide along the ground a bit and land awkwardly, from which he sprang back up into a bit of a run, and almost immediately began to think of a counter attack.
"Okay, so far so good. Being aggressive is never usually part of my gameplan. But from what I've just seen, it'll be easier for me if I keep her from doing anything big. So..."
Kentaro's next plan of attack was to attack her from all four corners. He would make a dash to each side of her, thrusting 3 quick jabs in any direction, and then proceeding to another side. He'd hope that she'd defend all these attacks, for it would possibly make her lose her grip a bit and allow him a percent chance to rid her of her weapon and earn his victory attack. There was a flaw to this plan however, as if she could find a way to counter, she could easily push him back during the transition of one of his strikes.

Kentaro was quicker than Amelinde had hoped, and he was able to use his lance to vault himself out of the way of her swipe. She still caught the lance and toppled him ground, but he got back up before she could capitalize on it.
Hmm, I'll really have to use my speed here. He's definitely got the strength advantage. I doubt I can block too many of his blows in a row. I'll have to try to doge and counter, using his momentum against him.
As he came around for another attack, she positioned herself so that her back was to one of the fruit trees, hopefully cutting off an avenue of approach. If he tried to catch her up against the tree, she would duck and pivot on one foot, bringing the butt of her lance up into his stomach. She steeled herself for his approach.
He came at her fast from the side, jabbing quickly three times and running as if he meant to continue on past her. She reacted like lighting, blocking the first jab and pivoting away from the tree, swinging her lance to try to throw his trajectory off and force him into the tree, but she missed and he sprinted past.
Drat! He threw me off balance there! Gotta try something a little more clever... Kentaro was already coming around for another pass. As he came from the other side, Amelinde charged towards him instead of waiting for him to reach her. As they got nearer, she raised her lance as if to attack head on, then at the last moment whirled off to the side, whipping her lance around to try to catch him in the back as he passed.

During his actions, he happened to notice Amelinde posting herself up against a tree. "Very good perception," he thought as he avoided attacking her in that particular direction. If he had gotten his lance stuck in the tree, it would have taken him a bit of time to have kicked it out from its lodging. Normally he would have done something like that on purpose to have shown off, but with Amelinde's excessive speed, he was pretty sure that that wasn't a clear option here.
It seemed as if she were finally ready to attack him, although she performed a bit of a feint. Kentaro hadn't seen it coming, and all he could really do was reflexively throw his lance behind his back defensively and hope for the best. She pretty much had him, forcing the lance to push hard into his backside. He tried to play it off as if blocking the attack had held no effect on him. However, his back was aching from being pushed on, and his arm was shaking from attempting to hold off the blunt force. There wasn't anything stylish he could do now to get out of this. All he could do was hope for a minor opening/slip up.
"So...how you like me now?," he falsely grinned with his back still turned, struggling to avoid letting go of his weapon and being knocked down, probably flat on his face.

In spite of the speed of her attack, the boy had managed to get his lance behind him to block it just in time. He's good, I'll give him that. It seems like maybe I underestimated him. But I've got him now!
In the position Kentaro was in, his lance had been thrust into the dirt and seemed stuck there after his block. The back end of it was jutting into his back, which had to hurt. Amelinde was fortunate that she'd gotten him pinned in such an uncomfortable fashion - if it had been a contest of pure strength, he would have flung his lance free in a matter of seconds. Even as it was, she was straining more than she let on to keep the upper hand.
"Your arms are shaking!" she taunted. "What's the matter, is that lance heavy for you? Here, let me help." She gritted her teeth and swiped her lance at his to try to wrench it from his grip and render him helpless - if it worked, she would have won, but if he manged to twist out of it somehow, she might be off her center of balance.

"Well, it isn't so much the fact that my lance has gained weight, it's moreso the whole concept of you adding applied pressure to the balance of the aforementioned weapon. Increasing the maximum velocity in that of which I currently have to deal with."
There was only one option left if he had wanted to get his simple tap on her shoulder or such. And that would in fact leave him COMPLETELY open. He hadn't quite stated his intentions for the signaled end of the battle to her, so once this was over, she could've attacked him if she had felt like it, and he'd pretty much be cut up into bits and pieces.
He watched and waited for her to make any sudden sort of move. And as she did, he let go of his lance, allowing her to knock it clear away, splitting the poor lance in half, and leaving him with an end that came twirling down back to him, the other half remaining in the dirt. He spun around to her front side and lightly bonked her on the head.
"There."

Amelinde felt a little surge of glee as her plan worked and Kentaro's lance went flying in splintered pieces, but as the reason for her success became apparent, her excitement turned to dismay. The little imp had gotten away, leaping free of her attack by abandoning his weapon. On the battlefield this would have spelled certain death, but before Amelinde could react, Kentaro had spun around and landed a playful little smack on her head.
She whirled at him, lance at the ready, eyes blazing, cheeks reddening at the mocking blow he had struck her with, and prepared to finish things up with a swift kick to the groin - but then she realized that, by the rules she herself had made, Kentaro had just won the duel. She let out an agonized gasp, "You!" before opting for the groin-kick anyways, but not kicking him with full force, just enough to show her displeasure at being beaten.
"What kind of a lame move was that?" she demanded, before turning her back on the now-injured boy and strutting towards Alcyone, who had watched the entire ordeal with an amused stare. She hitched her lance to the horse's side and tightened a few straps to make sure everything was in flying condition before calling back to Kentaro, "Never mind. What are you doing lazying about over there? Get over here and tie your things to my saddle. We'll have to see about getting you a new lance..."
If she felt guilty about the low blow to the boy's crotch, she didn't show it. In fact, she didn't seem to even remember injuring the boy so. Now, her impatience was showing on her face as she glared back at him. Ooh, I can't believe I let him get me like that! How... infuriating! But as angry as she was at having lost, she couldn't help but find the ridiculousness of the whole situation at least a little humorous. And Kentaro was a smarter opponent than she had first guessed. After all, he had fulfilled the requirements for victory that Amelinde had specified, even if he'd totally lost by all other standards. It might be good to have to kid along after all, if not only for entertainment's sake.

Perhaps he had thought that the battle was truly over. But it was that naive part of him that had earned him a swift, sweet kick delivered below the belt. Perhaps it was that little child like smirk that earned him his just dessert. He just couldn't help it though. It felt like a well earned mini victory. One that truly could have cost him his life in a real life situation, although he surely wouldn't have been dumb enough to have used it in the middle of a major battle unless he had allies nearby, and was SURE that a last ditch effort such as that one would end the battle. Nevertheless, lesson learned. Never let your guard down. And NEVER judge a book by its cover...
He was quite clearly in pain on the floor, as he struggled to get out a few words that he could. In truth, he felt that she had taken it easy on him just this once. He'd hate to have faced her full "wrath" on this one needless to say. "It was...a move that won me the match. Heh...," he squirmed out while wiggling on the floor trying to rid himself of the pain. Who did that sort of thing in or out battle? Honestly?
"Lazying about?" he thought as he came a bit to. "Are you sure about the lance? I can just tape up the sections and have it as good as new you know?," he said while limping over to the pegasus and tying his belongings up.

Amelinde was about to lay into him about how he hadn't "won" by any stretch of the term, but she figured the physical pain he was enduring was enough of a reminder. Instead, she answered him about the lance, "If you're sure you can tape it up without compromising its integrity, then by all means, go ahead. I'm not your babysitter."
When Kentaro had finished tying his things up, she continued, "I'm ready to go if you are. Our destination is Ilia. I'm looking for a friend there, and maybe some work while I'm at it - it's been a while since I had any kind of employ. So if you're going to ride with me, you're going to be my fellow merc. If you can't keep up, I'm leaving you behind. Got it?"

"Well...," he began to push. He was sure she didn't want to hear any more of his mouth, but she was going to have to get used to it anyway he figured. "It was a custom made lance, suited to fit my reach. So if you're really offering, then in that case..."
In almost an instant, she seemed to have changed the subject on him. "Ilia huh? Well, I have been looking to get away from here for a while to see the world. Once you roamed a continent over and over again, you tend to grow weary of it. Search of a friend and work? Sure, I'll bite. My goal isn't all too different from yours. And being a mercenary has sort of a nice ring to it. If only would could come up with a name for our little duo..."
He was sure to get a good slap on the head for his last statement once they took flight. But for now, the tale of the oddest duo had just begun.
