Mernatel walked into the town with Morgoth and Kristoph. And of course Brent and Graigor. Mernatel didn't like them very much. Whenever Morgoth was close by they gave the Illusion of a true unit. But when he was gone they showed that all they wanted was a promotion in their own army. Mernatel remembered two men, a Sergeant and a Captain, who had been like that back in the Thirty Third. The was another thing about the men. They acted as if because they were coming to help him they were doing him a service.
But Mernatel suppressed his anger due to the fact that he was slightly hypocritical. If the Resistance succeeded Mernatel needed to be at the front. It could not be a corrupt Bern leader who would act like any Illian ( probably his uncle). And it couldn't be a Lycian who wold hold Bern under their foot like Illia. No it would have to be him or a true warrior of Bern.
As they had entered the city Mernatel thought for the however many time, how do the little cloak wearing- practically only book carrying men expect him to keep up in all his armor? As they moved through the city they met up with the other part of the party from the inn.
As they walked up to the party he heard and saw a young girl explaining a theft. So this is what some people in the world are subjected to thought Mernatel. If things go this way in Bern he must help the people. But at this moment the girl was going through it.
He was about to speak up a young thief walked up and solved the situation by lightening his pocket. A few others in the group spoke of the events but Mernatel remained silent. He thought of apologizing to the green haired mage for his temper when they first met. But Mernatel remained silent.

Aaron made as if to move on. He... really didn't want to get rolled in with a couple of street thieves. Even if one of them was just stealing to survive. Best just to start going about his business.
"I've got a few things to pick up. After that, I'll head back to meet up with Gabriel, at Sir Rayl's Ranch."
After breaking off, he headed to one of the local general shops, and picked up some more parchment, and another few sticks of fine charcoal. On the way out, he made one more purchase: a medium sized metal bowl, which he just managed to fit inside his satchel. There wasn't much else he picked up. Just a few things to add a bit of taste to the travel rations he was taking, like a mix of tea, and some crystalized honey discs for sweetening.
It didn't take long to get directions to Rayl's Ranch, where the group was supposed to meet up eventually, and the green-haired mage didn't expect it to take long to get there. Not while he was riding on Fable, anyway.

Gabriel took a shower once he got to the ranch, and had been practicing his spells for a while, throwing thunderbolts and fireballs at the several dummies laid all through the ranch. Rayl probably rode in his horse while hitting those as he went, which explained why most were far apart from each other.
"Come forth, divine lightning!" a bolt of lightning fell from the skies, making that one target a mess of fire and ashes and scaring Starlight, who took cover behind the mage. "It's okay, girl, you don't have to worry about those" he said, turning to the white horse behind him.
It wasn't long before he noticed Aaron riding is new horse into the ranch. "Oh, Aaron. Did you finish your business already?" he asked as the green-haired man approached.

Perseus ran down the streets of Pherae, looking for Morgoth. How he got here: even he didn't know. He had fallen asleep on his horse, which he had bought, and all he remembers was this strange dream. It involved flying shoes, a shinny shield, a spaghetti haired lady with meatballs for eyes (who with one look, turned people into pasta statues), and himself. That was the last time he ate spaghetti before bed.
Perseus looked down every street until he saw Morgoth. He started running down a dark, evilish looking street, to us known as an alley.
"Morgot," said Perseus, getting his name wrong for the 100th time,"I found you!"
Perseus tripped, yet again, on a rock. He flew for about 5 feet until hitting the ground. Perseus's bruised up self looked up and thought he saw an Angel, known as Sheala.
"Y-y-your p-p-pretty... W-what's y-your n-n-name?" he asked, looking at the 'Angel'

Morgoth sighed as Perseus ran into the alley. It seemed this brain damaged man had a radar trained on him. He rolled his eyes at Perseus' blabbering. "Perseus, if you are going to insist on following me, behave yourself. Now, if we are done here I would like to get to Rayls ranch before we're left."
He turned and headed for a shop. Morgoth promptly asked for directions. It wasn't hard to find Rayls place. His men followed him out to the boon docks. "Alright we're here. Stay here while I take care of somethings."
Morgoth went straight to Aaron and Gabriel. "Hows it going?"
OoC: Um, ya, it's bad.

Sheala stared at the dude who called her pretty. He seemed to have issues with his speech, but maybe it was because he tripped. Completely oblivious, she reached down to assist the man, and help him up. "Uhm, thank you. I'm Sheala, by the way," she tells him. "Etrurian Refugee," she completes her sentence, simply. "So, who his 'Sir Rayl'?" Sheala asks. "Is he important?"
Turning to look at all the people around her, she felt slightly nervous, everyone in the city seemed to notice her. "Guess that doesn't make me a good thief," she thought to herself. She seemed to like the company, when in reality she was terrified of all these strangers- What if they were like the Etrurian forces?
Gulping slightly, she looked at the growing population of people, her eyes pulsating at the slightest, with a bit of fear.

Rayl's home was surrounded by sizable fields of grass. What's more, he could tell the place was well looked after, and served a variety of purposes. The path leading to it seemed to be well trod, for something other than a main road, and occasionally you would see targets and other pieces of equipment as you moved up the path.
Aaron was mentally counting off the things he'd gotten, when a loud crack, and a flash ignited somewhere towards the ranch. mage and horse jumped at the sound, but it didn't take long for Aaron to remember who else was at the ranch. Gabriel, with his new thunder tome.
"Easy Fable," Aaron said calmly as he rubbed his horses neck soothingly. "Probably just Gabriel out practicing." The young man had made progress working with lightning bolts in the last while. At this rate, he should be getting fairly proficient with the tome.
He rode on till he encountered the other mage. "Yep. All done. I knew pretty much what I wanted, so it got done about as fast as you can say 'fried target dummy'. Speaking of which, you're getting better." Aaron nodded his head at the pile of smoking, burning ashes.
Within a moment they were joined by Morgoth as well.
"I'd say it's going better than it was back, before we made it to Laus." Aaron smiled, letting down his guard and relaxing somewhat. They'd made it to the Hero of Elibe's home. Sir Rayl was perhaps one of the greatest men since the time of the War of the Scouring.
"So, now that we're here... Bern's been having troubles between it's nobles and it's citizens, right? And many of the nobles are Illian?
It was then that Aaron realized just how deep in he was getting. A nation dealing with it's own politics was one thing. If another nation began maneuvering into the mix, then things suddenly became far more complicated.

"Yeah, it seems like I've been getting the hand of it" Gabriel replied, looking back at the tome. Morgoth popped up right after Aaron did. Did they come together? "Hey Morgoth" he said, waving as the shaman got closer.
"Well, here's the heads up. The marquess told me that he had gotten reports of civilians acting strangely in the borders of Bern and Lycia, and that there were rumors of uprisings in several cities within Bern. If things keep going, then Bern will end up expelling the ilians from their territory. At best, that means that the ilians will go back home peacefully. At worst, it means war between the bernese and the ilians." He stopped, waiting to see if any of them would comment.
"Regardless, our mission is to 'scout and provide help' and to 'avoid as many casualties as possible'. I...find it odd" he said, stopping for a while. "The Marquess never directly stated which kind of help he meant. I assume he simply seeks peace, and doesn't really mind the outcome of the fight as long as casualties are avoided."

After they had reached Araphen, Rayl bid farewell to the Araphen commander and the soldiers from what would one day be called a covert operation, and took the Etrurian Soldiers with him and Guinevere as they rode for Pherae in the early morning. If they had wanted to kill him they would have been easily able to do so on the trip but they were as Rayl had known all this time: changed men.
Having arrived in Pherae the next day, he stopped the troops on a hill onlooking the city, turning Elibe to face them," Well then friends, this is Pherae, my homeland...and as long as you choose to serve me it is your own as well." he kept an arm around Guinevere's waist should she fall off, as the paladin watched the soldiers looking at the small homes, streets, the castle, and off in the distance (where thunder seemed to crackle without a cloud in the sky...) a large estate. Thus leading the troops down and into the city, the civilians out on their daily business looked up with a curiosity less than one would expect: A bunch of Etrurians ( in disquise as Araphen troops) following behind Commander Rayl was not an uncommon thing to see, considering the bulk of his force consisted of people from all across the continent.
Dismounting and extending a hand for Guinevere, he turned his head back to the Etrurians and gave a nod of his head," Make your way for that estate we saw in the distance: you are welcome to find a bedroom for your own in it, Just tell the attendants there that I have granted you permission...My home is your home." Thus with high spirited did the men take off, eager for the rest and following their orders...well mostly the resting part.

Guinevere slid off Rayl's big horse lightly onto her feet. She kept her hand in Rayl's as he gave out orders, staying quiet. Once he finished, she gave his hand a little squeeze and looked up at him. "What about me, Sir?" She asked with a little giggle. "Shall I head off to pick a room as well?" She bounced lightly on the balls on her feet as she asked, waiting to see how Rayl would answer. She had a big smiled on her face, she was having fun.

Kyo stood there for a second longer, waiting for an answer to his question from the young girl. However, well... To put it bluntly, Kyo got stuffed. A quite daft man stumbled up and occupied her attention, and Kyo took it in good stride. He proceeded to walk away from the scene, having wasted quite a few moments of his not so precious time.
Well, this begged a question. Now what?
There were plenty of people on the streets that he could steal from, of course. For a thief of his caliber, all but the most astute of individuals would notice that he had plucked their wallets. However, looking upon the streets, there wasn't really anyone who looked like they had more than a few gold on them. Hard times, these.
Kyo felt a bump on his leg and deft fingers slip into his pocket. Rather than taking anything out, however, he felt something being slipped in. That was odd. He didn't try to stop it all though he very well could have. Needless to say, his interest was piqued. It's not often you have two thieves on the same day slip complete strangers things. A pass was one thing but this was entirely different.
He waited a few seconds for the person, probably a kid judging by the height and force behind the bump, to hightail it out of there before Kyo looked at the slip.
'I challenge any comers to a contest of stealing' was the only thing written on the piece of paper. Kyo blinked, grinned, and looked up. A man was standing before him, examining the slip.
"So, you are the one who extended the challenge for the stealing contest?" asked the messenger. Before Kyo could get a word in, the messenger continued. "Sven has accepted your challenge. He will find you."
The messenger turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Kyo extremely confused. He looked at the retreating back of the man, then down at the paper.
"Well, whatever. Sounds fun."

Sven was on the move away from the village that should now be realizing that he was not present. Soon after he took note of the brigand gang. He was regretting leaving but with relief. The brigand gang was heavily armed.
There were four Warriors, three Berserkers, two Snipers, and one Paladin. "Must be the leader." Taking note at the single Paladin. Many of them were carrying Brave weaponry. He avoided them and ran into a forest nearby.
He noted the man that had the list of challenges. Sven quickly realized that the other thief was near. He decided to stay out of sight and then sneak on him. This was a simple test of how well does a thief knows it's surroundings.
He saw a man in sight. He was going to gamble if this was the thief. He noticed other people further ahead, however he didn't care. He slid past the man until he could see his back completely.

Rayl took a moment to contemplate an answer towards Guinevere's question: No doubt she would be tired, but would he also need a different voice when speaking with the Marquess? Sure he was in good standing with his lord, but at the same time with what he had just partaken in...
"Go and find yourself a room in the estate, Lady Guinevere. If there is no room you are welcome to stay at the ranch house, where I sleep. Also feel free to wander the city. The Capital is beautiful this time of day." thus with a smile he re-mounted Elibe, and waved an arm above his head to the two guards at the door, who nodded and opened it up for the commander.
Meanwhile around this time, the Etrurian forces turned Pheraen made their way up to the gates of the estate, to the surprise of the attendents. After dismounting and announcing what they were ordered to, the thirty men began to lead their horses to the stables as Dakota took off from the porch of the ranch house, running and barking for that brown haired boy and the green haired man with the smell of burnt wood.

Aaron rubbed his stubble covered chin as Gabriel spoke. It was already time to shave again, but that was not what was filling his mind.
"Hmm... it will be tough to remain neutral. The moment we go there, different groups will begin vying for our favor. It's a tough situation. The Northerners must fight, or lose something that could ultimately ensure their future. The Bernese must fight, or possibly lose their culture."
The Mage remained quiet for a moment, before continuing. "Scout, provide help, avoid casualties... Sounds like he trusts you pretty well. He practically gave you free rein."
Aaron himself still felt very unsure about all of this. If he was somehow given the choice of who would win, he wasn't sure who he'd pick.
Within a couple of minutes, the sound of a barking dog could be heard coming from the property. Aaron, not having been to the place yet, did not know anything about the dog, but it didn't sound like an angry bark. More like an alert.
"Who's this fella?" Winsett said quietly to himself. "Sounds like we should head up to the house, boys."
Aaron wasn't really old enough to call the others "boys", being under twenty himself, but sometimes his personality just demanded it.

"To be honest, it caught me off guard. It's not that long that I'm part of Pherae's forces. Might have been Rayl introducing me. He sure seems to be on the marquess' good side. But I still don't feel comfortable about it..." he said, looking down to the ground.
Then he heard the bark as well. "How oddly nostalgic..." he muttered and shook his head as the dog ran at full speed towards them. "That's Rayl's dog...Da-something. For the life of me, I can't remember it's name". Dakota jumped onto Gabriel, bringing the mage down. "Hey! Easy!" he said, as Dakota licked Gabriel's face. What was it with him and animals? Starlight took to him within a day, and Gabriel even get to be with Rayl's dog for more than a few hours last time.
OoC: Gabriel's hair is supposed to be of an almost copper-like color.
