ooC: Continued from Treasure Hunting
The Book of Scrying. Nearly unknown, due to the fact of the nature of those who kept it. An old man named Cecil uncovered mention of it while searching for other arcane knowledge and devices. Reported to be the studies of a mage living hundreds of years ago, It was Cecil's hope that it could be used to assist him and his friends in rediscovering the lost art of scrying. To this end, he hired a small group to assist him, leaving from Etruria, and journeying into the hidden recesses of the ruins where the book was said to remain.
Garnet entered the hall, annoyed, and rubbing his sore head from where Mana had tossed the golden skull into him. That wasn't his main concern at the moment though. A small bump on the head was hardly worth keeping in mind, when you had just entered someplace which had possibly been sealed since a few hundred years after the Scouring.
He followed the girls, hand gripping his sheathed sword, letting them take the lead for now. Elias was right. Caution still needed to be taken, but no sinister shadows seemed to be climbing out of the walls to suck away their souls, and no monsters were leaping out at them, intending to open their blood to the air.
The red-headed merc pointed up at the lights appearing above their heads. Magic, it seemed.
"I doesn't look like we'll need light for a while. Just the same, I'm glad we've got a few mages who can light the way for us, if they fail."
Garnet looked up the path in front of them. The stone hall was long, straight, and fairly tall, with smaller entrances leading off to either side from time to time. If worst came to worst, they wouldn't have much difficulty finding their way out. So far, it seemed one long hallway.
"Let's get going. I doubt that they'd put anything too important near the doors."
As Garnet started walking up the path, still letting others lead, if they wanted to run ahead, he tried to avoid thoughts about all the tonnage of stone over them, and next to them, as well as under them. He'd seen rockslides before, and those were destructive enough. He'd bounced down the side of a small, rocky cliff once, and decided that he'd been lucky to survive all those hard hits. The idea of all the stone around him, was something that he just wanted to avoid thinking about. His time would be better spent on another subject.

Elena hadn't said a word in some time. Instead, she was focusing her brain on how she could steal whatever treasure it was they were going for. The thief had drifted to the back of the group, hoping she'd have no time to thing of a plan and memorize the way out when it went through. She had grabbed the golden skull and put it in her bag already. It might not really be gold, but hey, if it is why let it go to waste? Smiling as she did, she went back to thinking. At least, if she didn't get the treasure, she'd hopefully at least get something out of this.
Eventually, she decided that she needed more information if she ever wanted a real plan to come together. Moving up slightly so she was next to Garnet and addressed him. "So, big guy. What exactly do you know about this treasure, beside the whole 'in a cave thing'? Like, is there something guarding it? Or some sort of puzzle to solve or something?"

Mana walked next to Riza. "Your name is Riza, isn't it?" The myrmidon spoke to her with a wide smile. She hadn't talked much with Riza or Chloe because the wolves made them busy before. "You seem as excited as me. Well, it must because this adventure is fun," said Mana. "Apart from those wolves and that camp..." She added. Mana seemed enjoying this, she seemed to forget how dangerous it actually was.
The hallway had enough light to see the inside, and Garnet was right, they could use Elias, Nathaniel, or Cecil as a human candle if necessary. Mana and Riza took the lead while the others following them.
"Hey, how long is this hallway?" Mana looked back and asked Cecil.

Riza had a good feeling about what was ahead of them. They were making progress so far, and nothing had jumped out and attacked them yet. A somewhat scantily-clad swordswoman, who she remembered was Mana, walked up to her and started talking. Riza like this girl, she seemed like she was having as much fun as she.
"Adventuring is very fun," she began, "It sure does beat studying in a must old library with a bunch of gloomy boys! I cannot make evident how happy I am to finally be free of the magical academy, even though my studies were left unfinished... I will be bale to teach myself!" She said with a confidant smile. After talking, they continued to walk on a bit.
Then, in response to Mana's question to Cecil, she interloped, saying, "It has to be at least one hundred yards, considering on the echo our footfalls are making. Maybe more. Plus, if there was something of powerful magic at the end of it, I would sense it if it were nearby, and I do not feel anything. It must be either along hallway, or a short one that opens up to a maze of some kind." She nonchalantly conjured and began playing with a small tendril of darkness as they walked.

OoC: I like the idea of a labyrinth, Riza. at least for a bit. Garnet quirked a smile when Chloe addressed him as "Big Guy". What was it about this group, and nicknames? "I don't know, Chloe. Cecil's the one with the knowledge, and even he didn't know much about this place." Garnet took his time answering. "It sounds like it would be useful to mage-types, but beyond the understanding of most.... I try and leave the magic stuff to the mages." The Mercenary thought about what he knew of the agile young woman. Not very much, but he knew she'd stuck with them, even with no apparent reason to do so. "Alright. What's it going to take to keep you satisfied? You're certainly not like the others, here just for the thrill of an adventure. That leaves profit as my guess at your reasons, and more profit then the safety of traveling with a good sized group. Which is heading into the unknown, besides...." Garnet sighed at the lack of preparation and knowledge they were experiencing. He'd not been prepared for it. Hence, the sigh. "From what I'm expecting, this place mostly consists of long halls, with several other facilities. Also, our objective is supposedly on this level. That's why I selected that door." Cecil spoke up, feeling it was related enough to what Riza and Mana had been talking about to mention it. The multiple level issue was new to Garnet though. Hopefully, it wouldn't be a problem. As they walked on ahead, something could be seen down the hall. It looked as though they were about to reach a place where there had been a three way split. "Had been", because now there was little more than a pile of rubble covering two of the door ways. Something had caused the stone in the center and right arches to break away and block their routes. Down the left path, they'd find a flight of stairs, which led into a large room with what seemed to be a maze. The walls stretched fifteen feet high, more than twice as high as Garnet was tall, and were made of stone mostly. Occasionally, there would be an odd panel of some darkened wood, perhaps scorched by fire, to break the monotony. Garnet rolled his eyes on seeing this. Not only would they need to leave the correct level, but the only way forward seemed to be through some confounded maze. "Troubling.... Mages from this time were sometimes more barbaric in their practices. Be aware that there may be dangers we don't know of in that maze." There. That sounded suitably cryptic for an old master wizard of some sort. OoC: Alright, I confess, I'm getting kinda tired of this little trip. lol Alex, you should probably make your entrance somewhere in here. I'm envisioning something of a center arena being in the middle, for those who care, and I've got an exit shortcut in mind if we decide to make a quick exit. I'm sorry if it seems like it's getting less imaginative as we go along. Truth is, it is.

Nathaniel walked down the hallway near the back. He had his tome out looking for an, easy to perform, spell that could light the way if the other light sources went out. Ope found it. Nathaniel put the book away. Wonder what the first color of the rainbow was doing. Oh well. There were women here and a certain saying hadn't been invented yet.
Nathaniel walked up next to Riza. He formed a large ring of light and made it move around the tendril to eventually go past the pupil. Nathaniel grinned. He looked down to the girl and said, "Hello Beauty, I'm Nathaniel. I don't think I've caught your name." Of course Nathaniel had but that was usually all it took to get a girl to tell him a bit about themselves.

OOC: Sure thing,Garnet. I've sent a mail to Ignis as well, hopefully he'll post in this thread soon.
Alex threw one of the paintings on the floor in anger. He had searched three room already, but he had found nothing. NOTHING AT ALL!
Alex noticed the room getting darker....there had to be a torch somewhere.
"Place the dragonstone on that pole in the middle. Place it...and that will be the source of light." the voice whispered once more.
Alex did not hesitate this time. The voice had brought him this far...instinct was something he had to rely on in this journey.
So Alex placed the stone on the pole and then he saw a small crack beneath the pole..... he stepped a few steps back.
Just in time too. A huge flame spiral surrounded the pole... he felt a strong energy running throughout the room, as it lit the other torches in the area...this made the whole hall bright enough for Alex to see everything. When the flame spiral subsided, he retrieved his dragonstone... he could see a group of people... about 6 of them....they were just a few yards away....this looked bad.

Elias' eyes glazed around in a mild daze. Beside him floated a fireball supported in mid air and doing little else but hovering. Looking like a little will-o-the-wisp that danced happily in the air as the light it shed flickered around him. He didn't really respond much to the stimulus around him, he couldn't help but feel a bit... well... disenchanted by the whole affair. It wasn't nearly as glorious as his mind has painted it. No huge libraries, no warehouses of magical artifacts, no riddles that required the touch of a clever red mage to solve. It was... Walls. He got enough of that in normal life.
In fact it was quite boring. He got more out the battle with the demonwolves then any of this. Still, a faint hoped burned in the back of his mind. Festering into his thoughts until it overpowered any other thing he dared to think of like a contagious disease. It was that bit of chance that maybe, just maybe... there was something hidden. Something the betrayed even his wildest expectations, so unique and clever that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to think of unless he had a hint before hand. Maybe, just maybe... the good parts are still hidden! That was what he hoped, that was what he was stuck on, and that... was what slowly whittled away with each dreadful step.
This was so not a worthy chapter in the book of Crimson.

Riza giggled girlishly as a young man walked up to her and asked for her name. "I am Riza, by name and by nature," she relied whimsically. She noticed the book her had out, and, by looking at the illustrations and spells, deduced that it was a book of light magic. She held up her own book, the dark red ink shining slightly.
"Perhaps opposites really to attract, monky," she said. "What brings you to be with this little hunting party-" she was about to pry a bit more when a fiery light shot out of the center of the maze. She immediately felt a wave of energy coming from the center. The torches near them, cold for so long, sputtered to life, filing the area with a rusty light. "Oh! There seems to be something amiss here!"

Nathaniel grinned, opposites attract. Well he wasn't sure if magic made them opposites. Although they had different focusus she seemed rather more like him than anyone else in this group. Oh well Nathaniel thought, shouldn't tell her that, she might believe the theory too much and he would lose a chance. And then he heard monky, and grinned lost in thought again.
As the flames errupted, however, he stepped in frnt of the two girls taking out his tome.

"Magic" Garnet whispered under his breath, as the flames raced out and lit the nearby torchs. Those who overheard would be hard pressed to decide whether it was an exclamation, or a curse. As the light faded to more normal levels again, something new could be seen nearby.
It was a man, bearded, and wearing robes. The Red-headed merc's initial distrust reared it's head again, leaving him suspicious. He walked up closer, nearby to where Nathaniel, Riza, and Chloe were already, and let his hand rest on the hilt of his slimsword at his hip.
"Who are you." The words were delivered flatly, feeling like the hard stones which surrounded them. There was less of a question in them, and more of a challenge, really.

Blast! What luck. He needed to hide his identity. Of course, hiding his intention would only fail, because this was a sealed magic facility. Surely the group of six would know.
"Who am I? I'm a wandering artifact hunter of sorts, reddie. I see you've got a brother of yours behind as well." he said, intimidatingly, looking now towards Elias and....him!
"That old man? Was it he who led them here? No! They've come for the treasure! I.... need that for myself. The Book of Scrying is importnant to my quest! But... this needs cautin. I cannot be rash here. Even for a dragon like me.... it is not wise to transform and fight against all of them... especially when my dragon powers have no recovered. Damn! My breath.... I need to recover my powers!" was what Alex was thinking.
"I see we have conflicting paths. I am quite sure you too are searching for the book of scrying?" he asked, a little more polite this time.

"Wh-What is this?" Mana could only gasped when the torch suddenly lit up and the surrounding became brighter. It was something weird, it was so dark earlier and now...Yeah, it was unpredictable and something magical. Her confusion didn't last long as she saw a figure. There was someone there, he was a bearded man. "Impossible, I thought we're the first ones who found this place." She seemed kinda disappointed at the fact there was another person there, and he was a few step ahead of them.
Mana followed Garnet and stood beside him, also resting her hand on the hilt of her sword. She lowered her stance with a foot in front, preparing to dash anytime if that man suddenly ran away. She didn't know who he was, but considering that this area was dangerous, bandits and doom wolves, he might be a danger as well.
When he mentioned the book, she instantly glanced to the other, looking surprised. She looked at the man again. "Why do you know that?" Those words slipped out from her thin lips. "You better have a good explanation."

Riza went rigid upon seeing the bearded man. No, it was more like when she felt him. Most everyone had their own particular aura, but this man's was wildly dissimilar to anyone else she had met before, whether mage or warrior. He radiated an alien power unlike any human she had met. He was not to be trifled with.
Riza put her hand on Garnet shoulder, trying to steady the mercenary, though she was sure that he could feel her trembling. "Do not fight this man," she whispered into his ear, "I fear he is not like us, and, in a battle, could kill us all." With that she took her hand away from the warrior and locked eyes with the bearded man.
"If we have the same goal, which is to find the book, why do we not just join forces and share the book's power upon finding it?" she addressed the man.

With red delusions and red thoughts, the distinctly unred man that approached nearly went entirely unnoticed. The place brightened up, as if a light just went on, which was nice. He had a hard time appreciating just how bland and boring the walls were without proper lighting. Elias only noticed something amiss when he found his self standing alone, because everyone bolted off in some random direction like a bunch of lemmings. Luckily it wasn't some giant dragon threatening to rip off their heads for their curiosity, and instead some dude with a beard. The Crimson-o-Wisp vanished as he shuffled over towards them.
Flo said something typically Flouritey, and the man spouted the word 'reddie' as if it was an insult! Reddie, an insult! The gall! Oh, Elias hated him already, how dare the fiend. Plus his cloak was green.
Manners went ahead and said stuff that showed that she showed a healthy level of suspicion over all of this, which was good. It was different from when they found Knife-lady earlier. This man arrived into the ruins far too quickly after they opened it, they only just entered and now all of a sudden he was right here doing green cloaky stuff. Then Riza went and said something then whispered something else that even Elias CRIMSON EARS could not hear into Flo's ear. Not fair. Now he wanted to know.
All in all, the situation had a feeling of deja vu and was growing on boredom. Buuuut.... It wasn't nearly as boring as this place, so it interested him according to the sliding scale of boredom. "Geez, why is everyone looking for the book RIGHT now? It's been here for a gazillion years, is there some kind of sale going on or something?" Elias crossed his arms with a slight humph, tapping his foot. The red garbed mage continued, because his melodious voice was the perfect thing to fill this silence. "The book is a book. It can be read, and reread by different people. That's the nice thing about books. They don't spontaneously combust or are carried off by convenient vortexes when you're done with them. How the fact we're both looking for the book can be seen as conflicting is only if you're in a mad rush to be the first to read it."
He grinned a little. "Chances are, honestly, you couldn't read it anyways. Probably written in gibberish, you'd need a good scholar to make heads or tails of it. Unless it's a picture book, I'm not here to judge the literacy of long dead magic. The most likely scenario is we'll find it, look at if for a bit, get headaches and have to hand it over to someone else anyways." He tapped his chin with a little thought. "Barring random and sudden twists, which will probably happen since everything's been far too straightforward so far... Oh I hope they're clever. I like it when I could never guess the truth." He clasped his hands with a grin.
He looked back at Flo for a second, craning his head back. "I'm the Crimson Mage Elias, the most mage in all of everything. Who are you, and like my super awesome incredible swordswoman friend asked, why do you know what you know? I will be using the point scale for how much I like your explanation."
