It was a perfectly peaceful and beautiful day in this particular road. The air was lax and gave a few reassuring winds to cool off weary travelers. Even the wet landscape seemed sparkly clear, lightening by the morning sun. It was a relatively nice day compared to Jya's other days on the road. Unfortunately her luck never worked out in such a form and somehow she ended up with trouble right from the time she woke up.
She just had to sleep under a tree next to the main road! It wasn't the best of time for a girl to be wondering the high roads alone. Than again when has it ever been truly peaceful in the world. Apparently some dunce had decided to steal from the local brigand and at some point found it wasn't worth their life. Somehow she happened to be the perfect scapegoat! Well it couldn't be helped she was technically a professional thief but those guys chasing her wouldn't know that, they probably believe a thief is a thief.
She glances down on the bundle she was carrying, it seemed awfully personal as it included only typical junk found around the house. There was a plain old hand mirror, a small knife, and various assortment of parchments. Oh how she loathed getting into such messes but this was all too common. This sort of thing happens to her all the time but she preferred to be at the fault for getting involved! Truthfully she could just toss the items aside and make it easier to get from the axe waving lunatics! Nope, he conscious was better than that, she would have to return the items and than get away.
"I swear I didn't steal anything!" she hollered at the group chasing her, carefully running through the forest while the clumsy group was being smacked by branches. It was no use, she was technically caught red handed. Oh dear, how was she to get out of this one?

Hal had deserted the Bern army many months ago. He had hated the thought of fighting against friends, he fled to Lycia and worked as a helped on a farm. He had heard a group of men chasing after a girl.
Hal had been feeding the cows when he noticed the girl run into the forest. "She doesn't look like the type that would steal. They must be mistaken, but if they catch up to her she's good as dead." He jogged over to the fence and climbed over running to the nearby forest hoping to help the girl.
By this time he had realized he still had the pitchfork in hand. He wasn't watching where he was going and one of the men ran right into him, causing both to fall to the ground. "Get the hell out of of the way kid, you trying to help her escape?"
Hal was scared as the man got up and started walking towards him. He started to scoot backwards "N...N...No sir... Sh....She just don't lo...lo...look like the ty...type to steal" He had lifted a large object to strike Hal with. As he got closer Hal had lifted the pitchfork to use as something to keep him back and ended up stabbing the man in the stomach. Pulling the pitchfork out he used it to stand up quickly and started to run from the others yelling for help.

Jya was doing great with her escape she was getting a fair distance between her pursuers. Then came the sound of help from behind, she knew better than to look but she did anyways. There behind her was a young man being chased by her pursuers. He seemed just as frightened if not more frightened as she was! It occurred to her that perhaps he got into the mess because of her. She was partially relieved to find that people are still kind enough to help others but quickly dragged herself out of her elation. She had to help!
Taking a deep breath she quickly found a decent spot to slip out of view. She poked enough into the bush to make an opening to gaze from. Those axe wielding maniacs would definitely tear the boy apart, even more if they lost track of her. She gingerly held the item with her left hand and silently drew out her blade. The blade shimmered in the morning light, killing had become quite familiar with her since an early age and she had no problem slicing any of those guy’s throat. The problem is if she was capable of doing it. Timing was everything to an ambush…
When the men were just upon them, she jumped out and stabbed a man in the neck. This quickly toppled him forward and he began to roar in pain as the blood came out. She knew this was a kill but only in due time. In the moment of the confusion she sheathed the sword and took the young man’s hand and pulled him towards the direction of their escape.

Shortly after starting to run Hal had dropped the pitchfork hoping it would make him just a little bit faster. He almost ran into a tree branch but barely ducking in time, one of the twigs had cut his left check. He heard rustling in the bushes as she popped out stabbing one of the men.
Hal was half happy she came back to help him and half scared. As she grabbed his hand and pulled him in the direction she was running he almost wet his pant. He had mumbled to himself "this girl is crazy. now she wants me to go with her."

Not long after stabbing the bandit and trying to pull Hal along did she feel the effect on her body. Jya began to coughing once again. She had been running for quite awhile and had added quite a it of strain on her body. She was surprised it even lasted that long. There was two choices deal with it and roll over coughing on the ground or take that medicine and deal with a little bit of pain. Shame it wasn't a cure, she thought to herself, letting go of Hal's hand and reaching into a pouch. The medicine wasn't just bitter but it was sour as well, a little bit better for her taste buds as she can't seem to taste much anything nowadays. Especially with years of taking various concoctions.
"Sorry I'm a little sick," she told her companion while running. Sooner or later one of groups will be too tired to continue this chase. Her coughing will continue for a bit but nothing like usual coughing her lungs out type.
"Can you fight?" she asked the guy beside her. Everything would be fine, there will be someway to get those guys off of them, by the way things are going they need to kill them all and soon before the medicine wears off.
She looked back, calculating the probability that she could take them down. It seemed that if she was lucky, she might escape with a few broken bones, but if all didn't go according to plan, well her sickness would be the least of her worries.
"We have to fight, somehow," she spoke, her force laden with concern.

It's been a while since he left the army and the only 'training' he got was told to stab and pull away. Hal shook his head "No I don't really know how to fight. I just got lucky back there, and I also have no weapon." He could make her keep running while coughing like that or he could attempt to carry her. He wasn't sure if he could go far with her on his back, he then pointed to the left and started to speak again.
"Here why don't I carry you and we go in that direction. You sound too sick to be running miss, I'm not sure how far we could get that way but hopefully it would be far enough where they don't see us. My name is Hal Kailas by the way."

Jya listened carefully to his companion and probably her ticket out of this mess on his dilemma. It seemed he had some experience in fighting but not enough to face these guys head on. If anything she might even have more experience. For once it seemed she was the only one with a weapon. Now his suggestion, it was true that she was extremely sick but this amount of pain, she could handle.
"Don't worry, I'm usually sicker then this but alright, we really need a plan to get out of this alive, I really could use a place to rest and gather my thoughts," she said, while stifling and real killer of a cough.

"Then we should try to head that way. I think that direction will take us to the farm I've been working on. You can hide there till nightfall if you want." Hal had got closer to Jya and stopped. "Here, I'll try to carry you as far as I can."

Jya stopped as soon as she realized that the young man did as well. This was no time to worry about her even with all the good intention. Sure she was exhausted but this was no time to give them an edge.
“Forget it! I can handle myself and I know I’m can be far faster even in this current state! All I need is a minute to rest!” she yelled at him before noticing a cabin not too far from where they stood. She didn’t say much but point to it and made a run for it. Seconds on arriving she turned the knob and realized it was locked. Taking out her lockpick she started to move about the insides with ease. It didn’t take long for her to hear the clink of the lock. Without hesitation she went inside and prepared to lock it right after Hal went in.

Hal didn't say anything as they entered the cabin and she shut the door locking it. He looked around to make sure the windows had something covering them and then shut a few curtains. He had tried to keep his voice low for the time being.
"How did you unlock that door? Did you really steal stuff from those guys?"

Jya sat down in a nice dark corner of the cabin and let out a long breathe of relief. This was tiresome to say the least, especially with her body. Thank goodness the cabin was here, she didn’t think her body would last her any longer. Sure she looked guilty being able to pick a lock but that doesn’t always mean she stole something. “Of course I used a lockpick to open the door but I swear I did not steal from them, someone just dumped the things on me while I was sleeping on the side of the road,” she replied, although they weren’t fully safe just yet. Those guys were determined to get at them; she wasn’t sure how long the cabin would buy their time. This was the perfect time to gather her thoughts and possible solutions. She relieved all her current belongings on the ground in front of her. There were few vials of medicine, her small blade, lockpick, a bag of her special leafy medicine to relieve hunger and a crumpled piece of paper. Well this hardly works for setting a trap. Those items of personal treasure could be bait but that is the only possible use. That paper… It seemed so familiar to her somehow. She unfolded and found those words again. It made no sense when she read it. Yet Valorian’s translation was perhaps all she needed. The one who bears this note shall inherit a power of the darkness. Shadows be thine allies, light be thine bane, death thy only friend. To sign on the line is to forfeit one's innocence to the abyss for its powers. Thy shall seal, in blood, the name of the one who casts their soul from the light and becomes the shadow of death. That power…well she didn’t have much when it comes to innocence in the first place. Why not? This might be their ticket out of here. She bit into her index finger to make a small wound and signed on the dotted line. Nothing seemed to happen for a few minutes until the words on the page swirled a bit. Unintentionally she put her palm on the circle of distorted ink and found that it stuck to her hand. She attempted to get the thing off of her, tugging at the paper, waving it around. Nothing seemed to work. “I think this paper got a mind of its own,” she remarked before a strikingly painful pain hit her head and she fell onto the ground twitching a bit.

"Oh... Ok... Sounds strange but I can tell you're a good person and you didn't steal that stuff." Hal had started to search the cabin to make sure it was truly empty, there was a layer of dust on top everything as if nobody has been here for a while. He walked around the corner as Jya stuck her hand on the paper.
"Oh crap, are you ok?" He said as he rushed to her side as she fell. He picked her up and drug her into the bedroom and layed her on the bed. "Wake up" he mumbled as she layed there.

Jya swore her vision was failing her as her eyes opened and all she could see was a distorted world, than the barely perceptible images became clearer but not where she began and definitely wrong. The smell of death, the shadow like figures danced in horrific succession. Outside her illusion she mumbled words towards no one in particular. The contract seemed to be injecting ideas into her mind. It was the most horrifying time in her life yet. She was learning death as well as experiencing it in some way. All it once it ended and she felt reassured. She was still sweating all over from the experience but she felt renewed in some way. She knew how to get out this mess.
“Just kill them, those three, all I have to do is kill them, my friend,” she said, slightly deranged but with an absolute air confidence. She could see it, the points to attack where a feeble human could just shatter and die.

Hal had tried to hold Jya down as she awoke and spoke. "Yo...You're not fit to do anything just yet. Please, stay here and rest a bit." Hal was worried, she was sick and planned on fighting and he didn't have the knowledge or weapon to do so. He had hoped they could of stayed in that cabin till nightfall.

Jya continued to mumble all the different ways she could those guys. It seemed her mind and body was bursting with some new sense she never had before...a form of bloodlust. Yes, she just needed to relax and gather her thoughts. Taking a few deep breathes, she considered Hal’s offer to rest. Yes, that would be a good idea. She is just too hyperactive for some reason, she herself could not understand.
“Yes, you’re right, I…I don’t know what came over me…” she said under an exasperated tone. For once in her life, Jya felt that something wasn’t right about her besides her illness. It was as though a new aspect of her personality emerged or grew. Was this the price of power? She glanced down at her palms; she didn’t feel like a thief anymore. What was she then?
“Rest eh? Yes, that is what I need, something to calm myself,” she muttered to Hal. Letting out a big sigh, she tried to relax herself. Her vision began to focus again. It was just a dusty old cabin. Nobody there, good, it is best not involve any more people. Strangely her vision seemed a tad sharper than before. Glancing over at the window she saw that nightfall was going to take quite some time, she’ll just have to gather her strength.
“Then the killing will wait, it is the only way to make sure they stop following,” she said looking Hal in the eye. Did she change? She wonders if the guy beside him will notice something different? She sure felt different.
