Well, fleeing might NOT be the right term. Atleast anymore, that is. They fled the hell out fleeing so much that the word flee doesn't even feel like a real word. Now it was time to rest. Well not them, the devilspawn. Contrary to popular belief, he doesn't run solely on the souls of forsaken children, he needed rest and water too. They pushed the poor horse to the point Elias wouldn't of been surprised if it had simply died mid-stride. So, for the last mile or so he and Ralph have simply been hoofing it.
They ran right into Etruria, luckily they didn't run into anyone. Ostia EXPLODING might of been a suitable distraction though, who knows. Though, he found it an odd stroke of oddness. Back in Etruria, where he was supposed to go in the first place. What were the odds? Pretty high to some story telling god, he must assume. "Ok, this sucks. Ostia died, we lost our Wyatt, we're stranded in the middle of nowhere, my parents might be dead and worst of all my feet are tired."
He moaned and groaned as he led the horse by the reins, looking at Ralph. "How you holding up?"

"I'm fine, looks like your horse is doing good too. How far have we walked?" Ralph asked. It was hard to tell since he had nothing to gauge his walking speed on. "And just where are we now?"
Ralph didn't SEE everything that had happened, but he could guess a lot of it fairly well. With all the heat and brimstone smell, it seemed as if a volcano had gone off in Ostia. Perhaps that cleansed the land of the foulness that plagued it. Regardless, they were now somewhere else with nowhere to go. No further leads. "I'm getting a sense of deja vu... In the past I was in Ostia for some time, but I rapidly moved somewhere else. If this is some kind of reflection on what happened in the past, perhaps that place that I can't remember is important."

"Alright alright just give me a moment." He grunted as his attention turned toward the sack of horrific instruments he always carried around. Saddlebags made this much easier, as well as easier to explain how he hid so many things on his body. What kind of man has four different books stowed away on his body at any given time anyways? Well he did and still does, but this was a lot less awkward when it came up in small talk. Hrm... it's in here... somewhere... Aha! He can from his dive into his pile of refuse and came back with a large rolled up parchment. It was fresh, as if it had never been used before. That's because he never used it before.
He unrolled it, using a few rocks to weigh the corners down as it desired nothing more then to just curl up and become a rolled up piece of useless. "Do you know how to read a map?" He asked Ralph, before looking at what was quite plainly a map of Ostia. "I think... that's west." He pointed in a direction, then turned into another direction. "So that would be north, according to this pointy thing on the map. I think it's called a tulip or something, who would name an image after a flower? That's silly. Anyways, we fled this away..." Pointing again. "So... we should be here on the map." Pointing at a spot that was plain to see.

"If you're talking about a Compass Rose, the really big point on it is north. I saw a few maps when I was able to see." he recalled something about another kid his age. A shorty with green hair. They were discussing things on a map of the world, but he couldn't remember anything more than that.
"Elias, you keep forgetting that I can't see. Are we West, South, or East of Ostia? The North is all mountains, so unless the earthquake leveled those we didn't travel that way." he said, recalling the same map. It was amazing how well you could remember details of your past just by having a discussion similar to it. He wondered who that kid was though.

He just looked at Ralph for a moment, stupefied. "You can't see?" Well when did this happen?
Wait....
"Oh yeah! Whoops. Anyways, we're to the... urm...." He trailed his finger on the parchment, it shifting under the pressure of his hand, making things annoying as the paper wanted to move, not his finger. "Stupid... map... thing...." He grunted and then, oh, um, erm, that hole was always there. "We should be to the northeast of Ostia I think. In this big thing called Etruria. That's a country, right? Oh oh, wait, northwest. Not east. Still in Etruria." He misread the daisy on the map, he thought east had said weast. Stupid map makers, not fixing your spelling mistakes.
"Hey, I've been in Etruria before. Lots of churches."

Ralph groaned. He had a feeling that this wouldn't be the last time that he would have to remind Elias that he was blind. He wouldn't be surprised if he regained his sight and Elias did the exact opposite either.
"I've only been in Etruria once I think. We were passing through to Sacae." Ralph said, recalling more of his past.
"I gotta say that I'm not very comfortable around churches. Let's try to avoid any, shall we?" He said, "Maybe you can find us a nearby village to rest up in on that map. I don't know about you, but this adventure has worn me out a little."

Wein sighed, rubbing the back of his head, before looking back down at the map Varia had given him. What a pretty lady. It was a shame nothing had happened. And she had seemed so interested in him at first. He seemed to have that effect on a lot of women, the boring effect, that is. Oh well, it was probably better this way. Still, she had been nice enough to invite them into her home, feed them, bathe them, and even patch Yaen up. Man, Yaen. That Sacaen. He definitely hadn't expected seeing him there, not after, you know, splitting up with him so soon. Nice being reunited again. Life was full of little surprises, it seemed.
Ok, so the map. Dusty old map. The Ostian's eyes traced the lines and the words sprawled on its face. If this map was correct, they should indeed be in the southeast quadrant of Etruria, just on the forest edge. Not exactly the direction he wanted to go, but hey, at least they were out of that overgrown hedge.
"Yaen," he said, looking up from the chart. "I've been thinking, now that you're back, what if we form our own little doublet?" Wein scratched his beard. "Like soldiers-for-hire, only minus the soldiers. After all, we work so well together, it would seem only logical to make it a business. That way you'd be able to buy all the apples you want."

Yaen looked over to the archer when he called his name. "Hmm? What is it?" he asked. He listened intently to Wein's proposal, and couldn't help but crack a smile at the end. "Nice closing statement, old friend." he replied. He didn't know why, but it almost made Wein sound like some sort of salesman, adding that at the end. A mercenary duo with Wein? It was an interesting concept. And why not? They'd been travelling together off and on for well over a year now, and Wein seemed to enjoy his company as much as he enjoyed Wein's. And he was right. They did work well together.
"It is an interesting concept. My swords and your bow." he mused. "We'd be practically unstoppable together, wouldn't we? Death from near or afar. A flurry of blades or a hail of arrows..." Yaen chuckled a little. "How could I say no? After all, it seems that it's our fate to travel together anyways. Why shouldn't we make a profit off of it?" he asked rhetorically. "So then," he held out his hand, "Partners?"

Wein nodded, grasping Yaen's hand and shaking it vigorously. "Partners it is," he said, a silly grin on his face. He was glad his friend had accepted, because he had felt a bit silly suggesting it. Nevertheless, it looked like they'd be together for awhile. Good. He was getting tired of jumping from group to group and aimlessly wandering Elibe like a vagabond.
The blue coated archer looked back down at his map, rubbing his chin as he did. "Well now that we're mercenaries, we need to get hired," observed Wein, looking for the nearest town. "There's a town right there we could check out." He pointed to a small dot on the map. "It's small, but it might have something. I mean, with our luck, there's sure to be bandits or whatnot." Wein chuckled, looking back up at Yaen, but was quickly distracted by a red blip in the corner of his eye. The archer turned his head, peering into the distance. The red blip was moving, a figure along with it. Travelers? "Yaen, over there. You see it?"

"Me either, we were chased out of town by a church once. Though I kinda did catch that one priest's robe on fire, still over reacting to call me the spawn of a demon. I mean, I suppose they had a point... But still we just set up a moat and everything, so it was like a few months of digging trenches down the drain. I don't even remember why I wanted a moat, I think I read it in a story, I don't even know where I'd get alligators." He begins to talk as he pulls his (slightly ripped) map off the ground and rolls it with great indignation. Putting the seal back on it, he popped it back into the devil beast's saddlebags. Patting the monstrosity on the head lightly.
"According to the map thing, if we keep heading that away. The way we've been going, we'll run into a town eventually maybe if we're lucky. I don't know, I'm not good at mapology." He found hisself mindlessly stroking his fingers through the demon's mane. It was a surreal experience. "So if we're lucky, we probably maybe might not die."

Ralph was now thoroughly confused with Elias' method of speech. He wasn't sure if Elias even realized how stupid that sounded.
Surely Ralph would be much better off if he were far away from this man, but without Caecus he had no choice but to follow him. Etruria was too unfamiliar a country to wander alone.
Ralph caught the shuffling of grass a way's off, bandits? Maybe it was just wind, but he couldn't be too sure. He acted normally while positioning Elias between himself and the sound. If there were bandits, they would attack Elias first, giving Ralph enough time to react.

There it was, that feeling. That look on his face, that bemused and annoyed look. He doubted he even realized it, especially since he couldn't even see hi own face or the face of any others. Elias had seen that face before, he's had this feeling before, and it was never a good thing. "Ralph..." He began, quietly, absently stroking the mane of his horse. "I wanted to tell you sorry, and thank you. I know, I know I'm not exactly an ideal travelling companion. In fact, most people leave by now, fed up with my... well foolishness I suppose. I'm used to it, to be honest you've stuck by me far longer then most people. I suppose that may have something to do with the fact you can't find your way alone then actual caring for me, though that's a better reason then none." There was no use looking at him, he wouldn't see anyways. Hopefully he could hear the sincerity in his voice. Besides, Elias couldn't bare to look at him anyways. "So if you want to leave, I'm fine with it. I'll lead you to the next town, but you're free to go any time. I have something I need to do here anyways, I know I promised I'd help you find Matis but... I don't think I'll be able to keep that promise. In fact, I don't think I'll be able to keep any of my promises." He bit his lip, looking pathetically at his steed.
"C'mon, there's a town this way. I actually do know how to read a map, by the way, I was just trying to lighten the mood." Of course he knew how to read a map, he was a mage's apprentice who traveled all over Lycia. They went on excursions all the time, diving for ancient knowledge, he was the one who handled all the cartography. This map looked unused simply because he never used it, he had it memorized. He was the one who scribed this map, after all. Hefting one leg over the horse's side, he seemed good to carry the light mage for now. Ralph too, if he wanted.

"Heh, so that's what it was, huh? You had me going for a second..." Elias must have lost friends from his actions, which begged the question, why did he continue to do it?
"There is something I need to do, something I must do by myself. Don't worry about Matis, he'll show up if he needs to, or else somebody would have found him by now."
The City of Heroes, something told him that he would need to go there soon. He decided to stick with Elias a little while longer, until Caecus returned at least. He hoped Caecus didn't get caught up in that Ostia mess.

Yaen squinted his eyes. Why was Wein asking him? As the archer of the two, shouldn't he have the better vision? "Yes. I see it." he replied. "What do you think it is?"

"It's alright Ralph, you don't have to worry about me." Though he really doubted that he did. "I... Have something I have to do, myself here in Etruria. Maybe if I'm lucky you'll hear about it." He bit his lip just a bit harder as he spoke, not really smiling since it would of been a waste of time. Chances are whatever Ralph hears won't be positive, that's how it always went... but even negative attention... It was still attention. Maybe if he can't be a hero, maybe being a villain won't be so bad. He shook his head with a loud laugh. "Oh look at me, being so dreadfully serious. I will disappoint all my fans."
He looked at Ralph for a second, he seemed to be... shuffling in the oddest way. Like he was trying to get on the other side of Elias, that was... peculiar. "Is... Everything alright Ralph?" Now he was paranoid, he looked around to see if he could see anything, there wasn't anything really noteworthy. Eh, maybe he was just being odd. Elias didn't have the monopoly on that after all.
