Wyatt gave a large, trouble making, grin at Mana's response. [red]"That's right, let's go teach em some respect, yeah?"[/red] He did stop when she offered her sword to him, and shook his head.
[red]"Nah, I'm still learning. I'm not ready to put my life on the line with a weapon I can barely use. But still..."[/red] He looked to his other weapons. His maul, which was getting a little beaten up, and the axe of fire, that he didn't even know how to repair if it did get broken.
[red]"Really wish Richter didn't keep my old axe. Oh well, I guess I'll see how good the lessons were!"[/red] He said, accepting the sword from her. A really light weapon, he needed his counter balance. He wrapped his pack around his left arm again, using the extra weight to keep him balanced with his strong swings.
[red]"Ok, let's go show them a thing or two."[/red] He said stepping out into the light. No surprise, these men were all out of their tents with various weapons. They spied Mana and lowered them at her.
One of them, using a rather large two handed sword, leveled it at her. [blue]"Nobody has to get hurt little girl. Just hand over the sword to a real swordsman and go back home to play with flowers."[/blue] That brought a series of brutish laughs from the crowd of them. Mostly sword uses, yikes. This would have been a bad battle for him to use an axe in.
[red]"Hmmm...Hey Mana, you see any 'Real Swordsmen?' out here?"[/red] He asked, looking about those gathered. [red]"All I see is a bunch of walking corpses."[/red]
Slightly dark, yes. But Wyatt had no patience for brigands and thieves. That and they judged an opponent by gender. Wyatt had done that before, and had been schooled every time. They'd soon see.

Mana looked like she wanted to object when Wyatt used his counter balance, but she then decided not to because they had their lives at stake here. If he swung like he did in training, he might get injured badly at the end of the battle. "The best way to see how far you've been improved is with a real battle, you know," she said, smiling.
When they got outside, Mana felt that she was being watched and observed by those men. Not her particulary, they were more interested with the sword in her hand. The girl didn't like them staring on her sword, the legendary sword, Falcatta. She felt somewhat proud, but was uneasy at the same time.
"Nobody has to get hurt little girl. Just hand over the sword to a real swordsman and go back home to play with flowers."
"Heh? Flowers?" Her brows furrowed when the man provoked her, she seemed ready to burst at any moment. She then heard Wyatt talking to her, asking her a question. That was a really good counter to the man's provocation, it helped her forget her anger. "Corpses shouldn't walk around like this, right? Lets make them sleep," she replied, grinning. As a response, she leveled Falcatta to the man with big sword and said, "A real swordman didn't fight with his mouth, he would prove his mettle with his sword," she said, glaring at the man who had provoked her. "You are not."
Mana took a few steps toward them, holding the Falcatta in her right hand. Her eyes carefully watched their movement, they would probably attack her soon. She realized that she and Wyatt were outnumbered but Falcatta had given her bravery and confidence to face all of them. "This sword was entrusted to me by The Crimson Demon of Sacae himself, I won't hand Falcatta to small flies like you," she roared. Yes, she would never allow someone to take this sword from her, the Sacaen girl had to protect her pride as a swordwoman and her promise with Kenshin.

Wyatt just smiled at Mana's ferocity, she had some spunk in her, that was for sure. The time for joking seemed to be at an end though. They had irritated the warriors, and in they came with a roar as they charged them. Probably a dozen of them, this would certainly be an interesting fight. No problem he'd just overpower...
And then Wyatt realized something. He was holding Mana's weapon, her cherished sword. He couldn't be reckless with it, this weapon was important to her. He had to be careful this fight, not to damage or break the weapon she cared so deeply for.
Life or death situation, that meant he played for keeps. He raised his arms, and let his pack fall off of his shoulders, slamming into the stone of the shrine entrance hard enough to crack it. He rotated his shoulder's once or twice, and then grinned as he leveled the blade at the oncoming horde. He didn't wait though, he advanced out to meet them, ready to show them a thing or two about a blacksmiths pride!
At first, the opponents came in pairs. Both swords descended from the front, in a pair of cross slashes. That was foolish, they must not have fought together very often. He grasped the sword in both hands and brought it to his center, as both blades crashed into his, stopping there. It seemed that the two were attempting to overpower him, but with both of his hands of the finely crafted sword, that wasn't happening. Wyatt's expert eyes scanned the weapons, the one on the left was chipped about three inches over the cross guard. With a powerful motion he spun his blade out from the tangle, and struck at the imperfection. The blade cracked and groaned, as a fracture spread through it's length. It wasn't fully broken, but it was enough to give the man pause as Wyatt lashed out at his other opponent. A quick hand strike, causing the man to drop his weapon and grab on to his injured palm.
Wyatt turned back to his original opponent, holding a heavily weakened sword. No doubt he expected Wyatt to target the sword again, so he moved it around rather cautiously. Wyatt, however, had no need of such conventions like 'Fighting Fair'. He made a swing, missed, and when the brigand moved in to counter, placed his knee firmly in his gut. The man dropped his damaged blade and fell to the earth, where Wyatt placed his boot into the back of his skull. Good, he'd be out for a while.
He wasn't smiling when he looked up and saw three more coming at him. These guys didn't seem strong, but they sure were numerous!

Mana stood in her place as the horde came toward her. She glanced behind to see Wyatt, checking if he was doing well. She felt a bit worried because Wyatt might have difficulty using her sword. After confirming that the red-haired blacksmith was fine, Mana took a deep breath and glared at a swordman who ran straight toward her.
"Falcatta, lend me your power," she spoke to her sword. This would be their first battle together, she never dreamed this day would come. As she readied herself for the battle, Mana assessed the situation. Outnumbered and surrounded didn't scare her, but she couldn't just charge blindly, she needed to think how to..."What the matter girl, girl? Scared???" one of them taunted her. Okay...Lets just charged blindly.
Her opponents didn't expect that the girl would attack first. Mana's agile movement cut through their formation, leaving them in disarray and confusion. "Shut up!" Mana went for the one who just taunted her. The swordman tried to take advantage of his longer reach and swung his sword horizontally, aiming to her right. But Mana was faster than him, he stepped into his reach and parried his sword to the side, leaving a crack in spot where the swords clashed. "Take this!" she roared as her sword sliced through the man's right arm, sliding through easily like slicing a butter.
Mana stared a Falcatta in her hand after kicking the man on his chest, sending him down to the ground. "It's better than I thought..." The sword was lighter than her iron sword but didn't look easy to be broken. She could feel a strange power inside it, flowing through her hand. "What have you done to our friends, b***h?" She didn't have enough time to admire Falcatta, two swordmen was coming to strike her with a big blade. "Don't worry, you are next!" Mana turned to face the swordmen and held her sword with both hands.
By the way, how many left? These guys weren't strong but their superior number was an advantage for them. Mana wondered how long she would be able to fight without killing them. She had been holding back but, she would kill them if she had to.

Wyatt wanted to be worried about Mana, but he did have his hands full at the moment. The three bearing down on his weren't anything to really be frightened of...individually. But there were three of them, and one of him. He hopped to the side, trying to avoid needlessly swinging the blade. He was using a lot of power, and he might break it if that continued. Not to mention that he was relying on luck here. Amazingly, these fools hadn't really dodged his attacks, so he wasn't exposed to the downside of all of this strength. As long as he hit or they blocked, he'd be fine...right?
With the speed of a guillotine, the sword buzzed through the air. It slipped right past an opponents sword and cut through his chest. Slipping between two of the ribs it made a clean cut through the front of his chest, before coming out like a razor on the other side as the man crumpled to the ground in a large bath of blood. Wyatt grimaced, that was a kill, for certain.
One of the other two approached him in rage, off to his left side. Hell, he couldn't get the sword around fast enough! Wyatt then remembered he wasn't playing fair, and yanked on his left arm. The bag, with several iron ingots in it, moved with his arm and slammed the man in the face. A sickening crack filled the air as the second man joined the first on the ground, very clearly dead.
At seeing their companions be eliminated so easily, the brigands began to back off from Wyatt, looking towards Mana as the 'easier' opponent. Boy were they in for a surprise. She wasn't easier, she was just not as 'Raw Power Intimidating' as he was.
Wyatt turned his eyes to Mana, to see how she was handling her own problems.

Mana dodged his big blade with a quick sidestep, going into the attacker's left side. She brought down her sword in a precise diagonal slash, cutting the man's chest. The wound across his chest seemed fatal, he would be dead soon. But Mana didn't have time to relax because the other one already came to revenge his friend. However, she didn't let him swing his sword. The girl seized the initiative and charged forward, swinging her sword toward his legs. The man fell to the ground and screamed in agony as she passed him, blood dripping from her sword. "Okay, that will render him useless," she thought. She looked up to see if she got new opponents. Mana was surprised, she didn't expect to see more people coming toward her. They were probably trying to fight her with their number.
One of them said, "Get her! We can use her as a hostage to stop that man." It seemed he and some others forgot that the girl had defeated three of their swordmen. No matter how much they had underestimated her, they shouldn't be this stupid. Two of them attacked her almost at the same time, swinging their swords in rapid succession. Dodging the first and then deflecting the second, Mana gained better momentum than those two. In this close range, she could easily killed them both. And that was what she was going to do. The girl twirled herself to add more strength to her next attack. Gripping Falcatta with right hand, she then sliced their necks consecutively.
As their bodies fell to the ground, Mana caught a glance of Wyatt from the corner of her eyes. Her eyes widened when she saw a swordman try to attack Wyatt from behind. "Behind you, Wyatt!!!" she shouted, warning him about the cowardice attack. Just after she warned him, the girl heard footsteps from behind. Luckily, she turned around at the right time to block a sword which was aimed toward her head. "Guh! Coward," she snarled. The Sacaen swordwoman was forced to take a few steps backward because her opponent overpowered her in term of strength.

Wyatt had turned as soon as he heard Mana's call, but not quick enough. A searing pain erupted from his right shoulder, as the shoddily crafted sword pierced the unprotected flesh. Damn it, what were these pauldrons for show?!
Oh wait...yeah they were. He should probably look into that later...come to think of it maybe he should get better with blocking too. Hey wait a minute...better with blocking...fighting one handed...more weight in his left hand....that was it! He should craft a shield! He'd never tried it before, it'd be a learning experience that was for sure. Man he hadn't been this excited in ages! The excitement seemed to fly in the air around him, spreading to everyone else. Wait no...they were excited because of the fight going on. Right! Right there was a fight, he should be paying attention to that.
He tried to bring the sword up as he gritted his teeth against the return of the pair from his right shoulder, but found that his arm would not raise. Great, the shoulder wound on his right arm had left it useless. No time to grab his Vulnerary...so it was time to show some real grit. His muscles were bulked, stronger then most people he'd met, and now he'd show them just how strong he was. He dropped Mana's sword so it stuck into the ground, coming up at an angle, and stared down the brigand with a bloody sword. His eyes aflame (metaphorically of course!) he lunged at the man. The man panicked at the lunge, not expecting it at all, and raised his sword in a panic. Wyatt felt it slide along his side, but paid no mind to the minor injury as he grabbed the man's face in his blackened and soot filled palm. With a roar he finished the dive, falling down and slamming the back of the man's head into the earth. Out cold, nice.
Wyatt stood up from where he was, his right arm hanging limply at his side and his left bloodied by that last man's face. The remaining few looked between Mana, her sword bathed in blood, and Wyatt, whose opponents were mostly broken.
They must have decided that the sacred sword wasn't worth it anymore, because those remaining retreated on foot, leaving their downed companions and their camp long behind them.
Wyatt sighed picking up Mana's sword and walking over to his pack to look for his Vulnerary. [red]"Quite a test eh? Man that sword is something else."[/red] He went to hand her sword back to her, checking it for signs of imperfection and damage as he did so.

Just before her opponent could push her any further, Mana leapt back. There was an anger in her eyes after being attacked from behind, she still considered it as an cowardice attack despite knowing that a battlefield wasn't a suitable place to hope for having a fair battle. He had attacked her with intent to kill, like the other men did, maybe she shouldn't hold back anymore. "Show me your power, Falcatta." The girl lunged forward, dodging a horizontal slash by ducking, her sword reached the man's left chest and made a clean cut through his body. His face showed the pain and agony, sending some fear vibes for the remaining men. As his body fell to the ground, Mana glared at the others then looked at Wyatt. "He seems doing well...Hmm? Wait, is he bleeding?" Seeing his friend got injured, Mana then decided to beat another one or two of those people, she knew it wouldn't heal his wound but she still wanted to do it. Unfortunately, most of them had already started running away. "Tsk!" She looked disappointed.
Mana didn't really pay attention to the retreating men, she was more concerned with Wyatt, whose was injured, she still noticed how fearful his strength could be, though. Really, what did the man feel when his face was grabbed? Keeping the sword in her hand unsheathed, she ran toward him.
He seemed well, the blacksmith even looked calm despite his injury. "Are you alright?" she asked a she took her sword from his hand. Judging from his reaction, the wound probably wasn't too deep, she hoped so. "You fought well, Wyatt. If only you weren't attacked from behind." It wasn't a word of consolation, it was just her honest opinion after watching his fight. He still needed to learn one or two thing about swordplay but he had progressed very well.
Looking at Falcatta, Mana tilted her head as her eyes gazed to its tip. "I had expected it to be great but...this sword was better than I thought. I can't describe it well, it just feel like its power flowing into my body." Mana still couldn't draw its full potential, she still needed time to know Falcatta better, but probably it wouldn't be long before she could use its full power. "Anyway, we must do something about your wound first. Do you need help applying the bandage?" she said as she offered her help.
"We should leave this place soon..." she thought, sighing.

At Mana's complimenting of him and obvious silent fretting over the wound, he just shrugged. [red]"Injuries are a part of it all, I just got careless."[/red] He used his now free hand to reach into his pack and pull out his Vulnerary, the one Richter had thrown to him back then. Heh, trading an axe for a vulnerary, looked like that trade might have been to his benefit after all. He applied a little bit of the healing salve, feeling the pain die down. He slowly rotated his right arm, and winced slightly. Still a little tender, but he'd be ok. [red]"I should be ok...thanks for the help back there by the way. If you hadn't warned me that hit could have been a lot worse then a shoulder stab. But it wasn't a total loss, it actually gave me a really good idea!"[/red] He said, now sounding excited.
Wyatt stared at her sword, blood running down the blade but still somehow looking regal and pristine. What a weapon. [red]"It is quite a weapon. I've never seen such a small sword cut that cleanly. It's like something out of a story."[/red] He remarked looking at the difference between the felled attackers. You could really see who fought Wyatt and who fought Mana, it was enough to bring a rather dark chuckle to Wyatt's lips.
[red]"Anyway."[/red] He said, picking up his pack from where he had dropped it. [red]"They might have some supplies we can use...just for the trip or what have you. Bulgar should be near, and then straight south of there will take us right into Bern."[/red] He remarked as he looked through a few of the tents. A few moments was all it took to search them, and hadn't uncovered too much of use, but there were a few things.
[red]"Seems like about forty gold, so twenty a piece, and a pretty hefty lance (Read: Heavy Spear). Prolly got it from ambushing someone else...scum."[/red] He growled out, looking over the encampment. [red]"Anyway, we should probably get going."[/red] Wyatt said, strapping the large weapon to his back. Asking Mana to carry such a large weapon would be dumb, it would just sl0ow her down.
Him, on the other hand, he could do this easy!
[red]"So...you mentioned something about a tournament in Bern right? That sounds like fun! It'd be a good chance to see how good we are compared to the others in the world."[/red]

"Huh?" Mana seemed confused at his words. How did he get an idea from being injured? No matter how she looked at it, the wound couldn't convince her that it had produced any benefits for the red-haired blacksmith. "Maybe he meant the experience? Well, who knows..." she guessed in her mind.
"I was surprised as well. I barely felt that I had cut them. This sword isn't just sharp and light. I can say that I never wielded a better sword in my life." The new topic made her forget about Wyatt's wound (sorry^^) But he was right. Although it had fame and beautiful design, the size itself wasn't spectacular. The size was same with a regular Sacae sword, with some differences.
Mana looked somewhat disagree when Wyatt took some golds and a spear. It wasn't like she had never done this before, though. If it was her from a few months ago, she would have gone against his action. But the flow of time had changed her ideal a bit, it might be alright to take loot from bad people, after all.
"Geez, I always hate people like them. It was because of their kind too that made me lose my tribe." Mana then realized what she just said, it seemed she still couldn't leave the past behind. "That's right, I never returned here since I...was taken." The myrmidon got herself reminded that she still had something to do. Something she should have done a long time ago. Maybe...maybe since she had finally returned to Sacae, she probably should try to visit that place. There might be nothing left in that place anymore, the land should have cleaned the spot, but she had to pay a visit, at least. She had always been scared before but maybe she could do this now, and she had got a good companion accompanying her this time.
Mana didn't seem interested when he talked about the tournament in Bern. Suddenly, it just became less important. The girl reluctantly looked up at him, she looked like having something in mind. "Uuuh...Wyatt...Do you mind if...if we make a small detour? I have a place I wanted to visit. It isn't too far from Bulgar." Somehow, her eyes couldn't meet his.

Wyatt noticed Mana's look of disapproval at his looting the camp, and shrugged. [red]"Way I see it, someone is going to take it, and they might not be using it with as good of intentions as we are. The world is littered with raiders and such, don't want them having any more supplies then they already do."[/red] He'd refilled his water flask from their stock, and grabbed a spare one with some extra food as well. Couldn't hurt to be prepared.
And then it happened...Mana talked about her family, her tribe. And then she asked to visit somewhere. Wyatt wasn't dumb, he could put two and two together. He smiled and nodded. [red]"I understand. Lead on then my lady."[/red] He said with a short bow. [red]"Say...I just thought of something!"[/red] He seemed excited as he tried to restore some semblance of happiness to the conversation. It wouldn't do getting all upset.
[red]"Well, you just got yourself a really special blade. The last man to use it was the 'Crimson Demon', right? Well you know what that means? You need a good name now! We should think of one to start spreading your legend!"[/red] Ok, maybe he was being silly. But he was fairly certain it would at least get a smile to crack her depressed features.

Mana could see how understanding Wyatt was. He didn't ask the reason for her request, she probably had made it obvious with her tone and gesture, anyway. She appreciated it. Talking about the subject actually wouldn't be too difficult for her now, but she wanted not to if possible. "Tha-" She was about to thank him when Wyatt suddenly got to say something with excitement in his voice. This kind of reaction had completely changed the gloom atmosphere that had been surrounding the girl. Mana started to wonder what made him reacting like that.
"A name?" Mana didn't expect this. Oh, this felt a bit embarassing somehow. "Do you really think so? My legend..." Mana swung Falcatta once to shake off the blood then stared at it eagerly. A name sounded cool, indeed. She never thought about this, her dream had always been a simple one, to be the best swordmaster in Elibe. Creating her legend was something else, but not something she would refuse to do. "Haha...Stop saying something silly, Wyatt. You make me embarassed," she said as she looked away, her expression showing her that the she was really embarassed. Mana didn't look gloomy anymore, she was blushing now.
-----Time skip------
They had arrived near a river, west from Bulgar. This place was where Mana's tribe rested, their last encampment. But...Nothing. There was nothing there. The land had cleaned whatever left after a year passed. All the bodies had returned to the earth and the valuables were either scorched by fire or taken by bandits. Even the remains of the encampment couldn't be seen anymore. Anyway, there was nothing but green grasses without any stain of blood. She wasn't surprised, although she did look shaken. Having expected this when she decided to visit this place, Mana was prepared to face this. She sighed and looked down.
"Sorry, it seems nothing left here, after all," she said, her voice almost like a whisper, weak and soft. Despite her effort to look calm, her shoulders were shaking, it was clear that the girl was trying to stop her emotion from bursting out. With those wet eyes, she looked to the sky. She felt something heavy in her chest was lifted. "Well, I knew it would end like this, anyway. Sorry for dragging you here, Wyatt. Probably I shouldn't have ask you to come here, after all," she said, wiping a single tear in her right eye.

There had been some good conversation on the way here. But as the drew nearer and nearer, Mana became increasingly quiet. He wasn't sure how she knew they were at the right place, since nothing seemed to stand out for him. But her reaction upon reaching this place made it obvious. This had been her home.
[red]"That's not true."[/red] Wyatt responded, placing a strong hand on her shoulder. [red]"Your memories of this place continue. And that means that it will always be here, as long as you remember it. It's like my home..."[/red] He trailed off for a moment before continuing, it was a difficult story to relive.
[red]"I left home a bit ago...two, maybe three years? I don't really remember. I wanted to be a smith for an army, for Laus. I left home, things happened, I wandered all of Elibe. Earlier this year, I finally made it back. and it was gone, destroyed by the dark things that have been conquering the countryside. My father and mother, long dead and gone. My friends, my entire life of fifteen years, gone in the blink of an eye. My sister was dead too, but her body...was taken by one of those...things. You cannot imagine what it is like to have to raise a weapon to your own flesh and blood, even knowing that they aren't actually there anymore."[/red]
He stopped again, pulling Mana into a bit of a one armed hug. [red]"It's ok to be sad. But the worst thing you can do is forget. We have our memories of the people that were important to us, and we cannot let them die. If nobody remembers you, there is no proof that you even existed. So there is something left here...something important to you."[/red]
Wyatt released Mana and dropped his pack, pulling out a few scraps of metal from it. [red]"And if all we can do for them right now is make a grave marker, then so be it."[/red] He announced, smashing a four foot stake of metal into the earth, where it stood up as an indication. It wasn't much, but it stood out on the green plains, and was all he had on him. Wyatt passed her a scribing tool, designed for cutting images and words into metal.
[red]"We'll make something better one day. But at least people who pass here will know that there was once something very important to someone here."[/red]

It seemed she wasn't the most unlucky person in this world, the crying girl thought so as she listened to Wyatt. Although she couldn't fully grasp what he meant about raising a weapon to his own flesh and blood, she could tell that these dark things were related to those weird doomed creatures. Mana had fought against some wolves when she was still with Garnet's group, the experience wasn't pleasant at all. But her sadness had stripped her ability to make a comment, she only stood there without giving him any verbal response.
Mana felt that she was being pulled by his big hand, which she showed no resistance as she gave in to his effort to console her with his warmness. Each of his words slowly stopped her from breaking. "I suppose you are right." She muttered weakly. Holding her tears because she didn't want to see anyone watch her crying, Mana continued to look down. "I won't forget them. I will never do it." She kept shouting that sentence inside her head.
When he finally released her, she felt a bit lonely. Mana kept watching him until he finished staking a metal into the ground. "He is nice." Mana smiled weakly at his kindness, this guy had helped her to calm herself and he even tried to make something like a tombstone for her tribe. "I...I am sorry, Wyatt. But have to refuse..." It was difficult to refuse this when he looked at her with such kindness. "But...my tribe never made anything like...that. We believed that making a grave or something would bind their soul in this world. We had a custom to burn the bodies and let the family keep the ashes."
As she finished saying that, Mana knelled onto her knees and covered her face with her hands. "I am sorry. You are being so nice...but...but..." She tried to apologize for refusing his kind suggestion but stopped midway. Now she was cursing herself for not being able to perform that ritual for her mother and the members of her tribe. Now she was hating the fact that she couldn't keep the ashes or found a memento. Her voice was sobbing, the Sacaen girl couldn't hold her tears anymore. Her tears started to fall down her cheeks. "I am sorry..."

Mana was no longer on the verge of tears, now she simple was crying. And as she struggled to explain herself, Wyatt wanted to punch himself for being so dumb. He'd never seen a Sacaen grave before, so why would he think they even had them? Idiot! Now she was far more upset then she had been, and he looked like a total fool. Great job hero.
Wyatt remained silent at first, dropping the scribing tool from his hands and kneeling down next to the sobbing girl, wrapping his powerful arms around her. He knew she was sad, he'd felt it before, but right now he needed to be the strong one. The mountain to keep her stable, and just kneel there with her and weather her pain. What did he even say to that? It's ok? I'm sorry? They are proud of you? Nothing seemed to really be the right thing to say.
