Getting her laughs all out silently beyond her book, the Mage couldn't help but notice all the constant activity going on. People coming and going off this small bench and heading towards that alleyway, which seemed to have three gentlemen moving crates behind the nearby tavern. Suspicious indeed, but why did people get so nosy when it came to shady-looking stuff? If you have no business being there, then just ignore it. Being too curious would only end with something bad happening to you later.
But then a sigh left her as the kid she caught sight of seemed to be nosy as well. Oh great...whatever was going to happen, he'd end up caught in some mess he had no business being part of. She would just go back to minding her own business, but she had a bit of a soft spot for the safety of people, especially children involved in matters that didn't concern them. Whatever was going to happen, someone was going to get hurt. So Vivi to the rescue!
"How many freaking times I've I used that line now?"
Oh well, time to get going and follow behind.
So now as she creep around the alleyway, she saw people on the ground. Yeaaaah, they looked like the men carrying those crates. Well, so much for being sneaky. No point since they're either dead...or sleeping. It seemed as though everyone was in already in...but it was the backdoor? What in the world was going on? As the inched closer, she heard voices. A man and a child from what it sounded like. She managed to catch just a bit of their conversation, but it was obvious that the two were not apart of what was happening, so she was bold enough to make herself apparent as she slowly revealed her presence.
"...Pursing the unknown, having no idea what could possibly happen if you go further? That's very fun and adventurous! But also extremely dangerous." the female Mage said, having a bright smile on her face.

Selena watched as Art killed his opponent. Oh well, she couldn't complain. She'd done the same in the last place. The thought brought a chuckle to her lips.
[blue]"We should really be consistent about killing or not killing them. They might start thinking they have a bipolar intruder."[/blue] She joked lightly, quickly becoming serious again as she moved into the room and looked around. Nothing much in here, a table, a few chairs, and two other doors. One of them lead towards the front, so she guessed that was a bad way to go. The other went off to the right, probably to another back storeroom or something. That might be the better choice. Also, even she could hear the sounds from the main room, lots of them. Going in there would be a bad idea...for now.
She moved to the side door and pressed an ear to it, hearing nothing, it seemed this room was empty. She nodded to Art, slipping the door open quietly and ducking inside. Now this room, this was far more interesting. Crates filled this warehouse, countless numbers of boxes for shipping. Who knew what they all contained, but Selena had her guess that a large bit of it was legitimate. Doing all illegal work would draw way too much attention.
She also spied a ladder, leading up to a second floor. The building was big enough, and most places like this put the book keeping on the second floor, so it was out of the way. She began heading towards the ladder, not noticing a small glint in the light that came in through the cracks in the wall. A string glimmered at the base of the ladder, one she clearly had not noticed as she walked towards it.
A tripwire, but for what?

When she spoke up, it was almost enough to get him to do laugh. Almost. "Duly noted." She was right, of course. Though maybe it was better they think they were dealing with one intruder, even if they were crazy, than two. Or maybe not... One intruder getting this far would imply someone who was very good at what they were doing, and likely more of a threat. A group, however, might be individually less of a threat and something slightly less to worry about...
That made sense, to him at least.
He took a quick look around the room, seeing nothing of interest. The two bodies, a table, chairs, and doors leading elsewhere into the building. One leading up front, one leading to what he could guess as a storeroom or something. The noise of voices and activity in the front end made him uneasy -- at any minute someone could open that door and they'd be caught and have a fight to deal with. When Selena displayed she was mercifully sensible enough to know going up front was a very bad idea, he was relieved.
He hung back for a moment while she took the lead into the back, only following when she gave the clear, shutting the door leading outside and following into the storeroom, pulling that door shut behind him as well. He took a sweeping look around the room, and was mildly interested. He was almost tempted to have a look at what was in some of these crates, but that would just be plain stupid. Besides, what were the chances of there actually being anything of any real value that he could readily get at?
He wasn't really a betting man, but even he could tell it would be a very, very stupid bet to make.
The only thing that stood out amongst the crates was a ladder leading to the second floor. Gotta have a way up in the back, after all. As Selena started toward the ladder, he was on the verge of following her when something caught his attention. It was faint, but....yes! Oh that wasn't going to be anything good. He quickly darted forward, silently cursing himself for hanging back so far, and quietly clapped a hand on Selena's shoulder, doing his best to try and bring her to a halt. "Careful." And he indicated the tripwire.
And in his mind, he silently wondered why he hadn't just let her trip whatever it was and make a quick retreat.

Selena paused stiffly when Art placed his hand on her shoulder. She was about to react with hostility, when she heard his warning and followed his gesture. She could see something...glimmering? it was like a strand of metal, thin and almost invisible. She paused, following the wire with her eyes. Along the floor, up the wall, and connected to a small latch...and bits of metal shrapnel? Ah, of course. When the wire went taught, it would release the latch and drop the metal, which would tumble down the angled ladder and make quite a bit of noise. A primitive, if effective, alarm.
[blue]"Good eye. Someone doesn't want us up here...makes me curious..."[/blue] She remarked, cautiously stepping over the wire and onto the first rung of the ladder. She scaled it quickly and quietly, pausing at the top before she looked over the ledge. Didn't seem to be anyone in sight, that was odd. Still, best not to look a gift horse in the mouth. She stepped onto the second floor, keeping her eyes peeled for more of those trip wires, and gestured to Art. Wait...why was she leading again? Bah, no matter.
Still, this seemed wrong. This was almost too easy. There should certainly be more guards, more patrols, more traps. Especially if they were in charge of the operation she thought they were.
She paused, waiting for Art to join her, as she looked around up here. Three doors, all of them seemed similar in design, no way to show which way lead to her goal.
And she heard various voices from each of the doors, at least two per door. So there were at least six people up here, maybe more. Great, now this was starting to get challenging.
[blue]"Hmmm, any ideas now? Lots of people up here..."[/blue] She said in a hushed voice.

As he waited for the older man to get ready and situated Nihlus peered down the new passage. It looked a bit dangerous but quite interesting as well. The only issue was the fact that he couldn't see anything. To make that a bit easier Nihlus figured a little fire spell would lighten things up a bit. Let's see if he could get this right though and not have it blow up in his face. Nihlus opened up his hand and while staring at his palm tried to summon up a small fire. At first all he got was a small spark but he continued trying. "Work dangit!" The boy growled as he started to shake his hand, like that would help. Eventually it worked and Nihlus had a nice little fireball burning above his palm. "Awesome I got it work!" He exclaimed happy with his ability to summon up a simple fire ball.
The boy then lowered his arm toward the darkness below to lighten it up. All he saw was ground, it was an underground tunnel duh. Who would take it out of their time to make something like this. The pupil then remembered that the people that probably made this tunnel are all now dead. That lady and that man from earlier are probably far in this tunnel by now. He wondered if they were dead....nah they were probably fine they manage to get this far right? He was about to take a step down when he heard a voice from behind him.
It wasn't the man as it was a woman's voice, maybe she was with those other guys! Nihlus then slowly turned around and faced the woman with tome in hand. If it was necessary he would try and take her out if she was a foe. Honestly he'd rather the man to take her out rather than herself. As he faced her the fireball in his hand went out and the boy didn't look like he harm a fly. "Danger just makes it all that more fun and worth it in the end when you reach your goal," Nihlus said to the lady, he was a bit more calm now as the woman didn't seem dangerous to him.

“Hmm...”
Vivian listened as the boy spoke. She couldn't help but sigh afterward, having her head inch downward. She noticed the secret passageway, assuming that's where the two were planning on heading. It was way too dark and it didn't seem like a lantern or a torch was around. She had an idea, looking to the tall man. He seemed like he could handle himself from size alone, but she wondered why he was dragged into this. Though more curious as to why this kid was being very nosy. Well, kids will be kids. They always stick their noses where they shouldn't be, resulting in them being thrust into terrible situations.
She observed him a bit more, seeing as he must be a novice at magic. With no source of light down there, they'd need a more reliable means of seeing where they were going down there. Keeping a fireball going isn't easy, especially for a beginner. So she improvised, finding a broken piece of crate which was conveniently large enough to be used as a makeshift torch if lit properly.
“Well, obviously your mind is made up, kiddo...I'll light this big hunk of wood, as it'll serve more useful than expending your energy like that. I'll go too...so you two can have a better chance at living.” At this point, she had no choice but to go along with them. She was sure the man was reliable enough to handle things if something did happen, but you could never be too safe. If she remembered correctly, another man and a woman previously chased after some suspicious people earlier. If they were still down there, they were probably dead by now. But obviously the boy was dead-set on seeing what may be going on down there. “...I'll go down first, I guess.” she stated before letting out a mild sigh again.
Casting a fire spell, she lit the top of the broken wood as it caught ablaze at the top. If she would have lit it like actually creating a fire ball, the thing could have caught completely on fire, burning her hand in the process. She was lucky she had decent control over the size of her fire so something like that wouldn't happen. But she dropped down the secret door and ended up in a tunnel like area now.
As she took a few steps, she heard several brisk steps ahead...and they were coming this way!
“Ah, geez...this is EXACTLY what I was talking about!”
They were really close. It was too late at this point. She was locked into interacting with them, as there was no way she could get back up there in time before they spotted her. So she dropped the stick and rolled out the fire by moving it fiercely with the heel of her boot. She could see the light of their lantern or torch getting closer. She prepared casting a spell, ready to fire when they came into plain sight.
As expected, the moment one of the muscle heads spotted her, she unleashed a fireball that hit him dead on, sending him flying into his pals. She began to cast another fire ball before they all could recover. If they got close, she was finished.

As the kid and the woman talked, Carmichal took the time to take a better look around the room. He pried open a few more of the crates and found more of the same. A strange thing to find in the back of a tavern, though he had seen stranger in his day. He guessed that the young woman had been hired to look into this, but by whom or for what reason, he was unsure. He took a closer look at the emblem that was emblazoned on the side of several of the boxes and vaguely recognized it as the logo well regarded shipping company. Frankly, it didn't surprise the former pirate. He had found many similar boxes on the pirate ships he had raided. It didn't take a fool to put two and two together and realize that these companies often used less than legal ways of moving and selling their goods.
Turning back to the others, Carmichal was surprised to find that he was alone in the room. Walking over to where the boy and woman had stood moments ago, he found that they had exposed a small hatch in the floor and had moved down into the tunnels below. A smuggler's tunnel, thought Carmichal, Now it get's exciting. He broke into one of his characteristic grins and followed his companions into the tunnel. As he landed softly on the ground, he eyed torches glowing in the distance and picked up the growing sound of hurried footsteps heading in their direction. He eyed his companions and noticed that the woman was preparing for combat. Following suit, he unhooked his axe from his belt and crouched into a combat position. It was about time he had a good fight.

"Kinda extensive security for a place like this. Kinda primitive, but it gets the job done just the same. More and more curious does this grow." The rather sorry state and implementation of the trap was almost worthy of disgust, and any truly professional thief would have been offended at seeing something so hastily pulled together set out. But he was still relatively humble and, shall we say, "resourceful" enough to recognize effectiveness when he saw it. It didn't have to be pretty and elegant to be effective.
He'd learned that lesson when he'd almost had a leg taken off by a makeshift beartrap made out of what he was sure had been broken sword fragments and random odds and ends. It had looked like a pile of junk, but one misstep and...
The memory alone made him shiver in disgust. He hadn't walked right for at least a week. The scars still lingered on his shin.
After lingering back for a moment, casting about the immediate area with a careful eye for anything else of import, he clambered quietly up the ladder. And he was greeted with an unfortunate sight. Three nearly identical doors, all closed and, with any luck, locked. Luck was of course subjective in this instance. The doors could have all been open and the guards or whoever was beyond the doors could have had a clear look at them.
Whatever they could get, right?
"Well, there's the obvious of staying quiet," he murmured, shifting his eyes from one door to the next and then back again, as if he could tell which door was the best choice just by looking. He wasn't quite that good just yet. "If you want any actual good ideas, though...." He trailed off with a shrug, though it looked as if he was giving the matter some serious thought. "....gimme a minute."
Mulling over the options at hand, every course of action seemed dumber than the last. They could always just boldly charge in one door, though that would defeat the entire point of the stealth up to now. Maybe....carefully open one door and take out the occupants as quickly as possible, hope they didn't get a chance to make too much of a ruckus? If they were quick, it was a sound plan. If not, well....they'd have at least four more men to tangle with, and who knows how many more might be alerted by the ensuing full-on scuffle.
There was the option of making just enough of a ruckus near one door -- knocking on it or some such -- to get the attention of the two behind it and clobbering them when they came to investigate....
Bah, strategy was hard under pressure.

Selena was thinking as well, the obvious difficulties this presented not unknown to her. It was while they were thinking that she heard the sounds of footsteps...someone moving towards the left most door! She quickly ducked behind some boxes in this upper area, which was still technically part of the warehouse. As such, it still had crates, barrels and all manner of storage all over the place.
Art must have done the same, since the pair of men walking past them didn't seem alarmed as they spoke.
[red]"...maybe. Tha next's aint coming fer a few days. Can ya believe where this stuff comes from? Tha isles, up north, Bern, Nab. Swear we got one from the dread last moon."[/red]
The other man scoffed as they worked their way down the ladder.
[green]"Ya gotta be kidding me. Nobody would check there, that's for sure...but man that can't be easy to work with..."[/green]
The two voices faded as the moved out of sight, and Selena peaked out of her hiding spot, looking over at the door they came from. It was closed, and she'd heard them fiddling with something on the door after they'd closed it. Locked perhaps?
She turned to Art, and faced the other two doors, listening for sounds of people moving. So far, nothing. They were speaking, but the voices seemed stationary. For now, this was safe.
For now. She hoped this thief could open the door quickly enough, who knew how long they'd have before another door opened?

A big smile grew on the young boy's face as the woman began to speak. She wasn't planning on stopping him, good! Her words however did make Nihlus move his eyes to his fireball that burned about his palm. She made a good point, he wouldn't be able to keep the fireball going much longer. As soon as they got into the tunnel it probably would have gone out knowing Nihlus' luck with magic at the moment. He watched as the lady took the hunk of wood and then turned it into a torch. To be honest Nihlus was a bit jealous that the lady was better at magic than he was. Then again he was more happy than jealous cause that meant that she could teach him so that he could show Inell that he's gotten stronger. "Of course you can go first. As the saying goes "Ladies first" right?" Nihlus said cheerfully as he watched the lady go down the hatch.
The rose haired boy then followed behind the woman landing on the ground next to her. Boy was it dark down there! Even with torch Nihlus felt it was extremely dark to the point were he could barely see anything a few feet in front of him. Before he could even take a step he noticed that the lady in front of him had stopped moving. "Hey what's wro-," He stopped mid sentence as he then heard something. It was footsteps but it wasn't his other the lady's. Nihlus quickly turned around to see if it was the older guy but it wasn't. The boy then turned his head back facing frontward. What was coming toward them? Maybe some kind of monster that made the tunnel or was it more guys like the ones he saw get dusted.
Before he knew it their torch was out, a fireball had been shot and the man behind him was ready to gut someone with his ax. This would be the first time Nihlus was in a fight for his life and he wasn't exactly sure how he'd be able to handle it. If one were to look on his face you could see his worry and nervousness. He was frozen in spot not sure what he should do. Should he try and fight? No, he'd only get in the way. Should he run away? Nihlus would rather die than runaway....right? He didn't know what to do...

When the apparent ring leader crashed into one of the other thugs, he dropped the lantern. It cracked upon landing, but it was still in a usable condition. With it now being in one spot, it illuminated the area of the tunnel enough to at least show all six of them. While this meant no more sneaky tactics as long as it's there, at least they could see that it was only those three that were in their path. Not like anyone knows where they are going though...at least Vivian doesn't.
When the fire ball formed in front of her, the sprint of the third man with a sword surprised her. However, she released and sent it towards him at full speed.
“...Crap!” She had to give the man her props, as he dropped to his knees and slid under the attack. Wasn't expecting that.
With only a short time to recover and the man rising to his feet for another try, she gritted her teeth to prepare. She couldn't think of anything off the top of her head on how she'd retaliate, as being a magic user is the worse thing to be when having some retard with a long hunk of metal aiming to strike you down. But thinking under pressure is something she never does, so when the man came at her, she was about to step to the side...until he swung his sword horizontally instead.
“Eeeep!” she silently screamed as she bent backwards entirely and fell down while supporting herself with her knee. “...You know what?” aaaand then there was her frown. All it took was a single swing to tick her off. She popped up like a spring and lifted her right leg, bending it backwards before launching it forth quickly, aiming at the man's crotch. Watching him wince before screaming out of pain, she whacked him upside the head with the tome. She would have thought of something more suitable to do than hitting him with the tome, but at least it sent him down on the ground with a possible headache and a very painful feeling between the legs. She simply shut her eyes as she playfully stuck out her tongue. However, the other two thugs were coming right at her, though the one she shot appeared the most furious. Not like she could blame him. She would like to see a person get up from getting blasted with a fire ball and NOT be angry!
So she turned tail and dashed pass her axe wielding ally and jokingly stating, “...Your turn!” before standing right beside the kid. Taking a moment to catch her breath, she figured that for the moment the man could handle those two. If they were still alive after he made his move, she decided to support him with her fire tome when necessary. But taking a glance at the kid at first, she saw the hesitation and fear displayed on his face. She should have known that he wouldn't just up and be ready to fight like his friend. But she couldn't blame him. It was probably his first time having to actually deal with a life or death situation. Usually stuff like this was the most traumatic at a young age. While she was thankful she didn't experience anything like that in her childhood...or at least from what she remembered after the amnesia, she wasn't going to let something like battle place a scar. So she looked to him as her frustrated expression caused by running away changed to a more brighter one.
“Seeeeee? This is why being nosy is reeeeeally bad.” while that was meant to be words of scolding, they were also just her trying to brighten the mood and calm him down, as she had a smile follow. “Your friend and I can handle this, kid...kinda. So just stand back so they won't lock on you. But if you want to put that fire tome of yours to use, then just stay by my side. I won't let them get close!”

Just as he was winding down to some of the less idiotic options they had, he was sorely interrupted from his thoughts by a sound he really didn't want to hear. Footsteps, approaching one of the doors. And here he was, standing in plain sight for just anyone to see! That wouldn't do at all, getting caught at this stage. Quick as a flash, he spun on one heel and vaulted lightly over a crate behind him, landing in a low crouch and disappearing from immediate sight of the doorway just as it opened.
Not a moment too soon, either.
As the two men made their way down the ladder, he waited for a handful of seconds, listening intently to judge when they were sufficiently on their way to ensure they wouldn't be coming back without undue warning, he leapt over the crate he'd hidden behind once more, and padded over to the door which lead to a hopefully now-abandoned room.
And with only the faintest clink of metal he pulled his lockpicks from somewhere within his cloak, and knelt down before the door, setting to work. He worked quickly, and though he fumbled once, earning a muttered "Blast it...", he had the lock dealt with and the door open within only a few short seconds.
Stowing his lockpicks away again, he placed one hand on one of the many blade hilts strapped to his person -- the only one that was actually real at the moment -- and pushed the door open.

Selena kept her eyes and ears open as Art worked on the door, she glanced back at his light curse, but by the time she looked, the door was unlocked and he was moving to open it. She remained quiet as the room came into view. Empty, she breathed a sigh of relief. From what she saw it seemed a book keeping room. More books and ledgers then crates and chests. While there was a desk, she suspected it contained more of the paperwork of running this place.
Perfect. Big operations like this always tried to hide their dealings, but there was one thing that was always accurate. The book balancing. Money was the bottom line, and every copper coin would be accounted for here if this operation was as organized as she suspected. But still, what the men had said before bothered her. Many different shipments...from the way they had spoken, it sounded like everywhere except Sacae, which had no ports, and Ilia, which was too dangerous to sail to. She moved into the empty room behind Art, and slid the door shut quietly behind her. She'd only just done this when the sound of a loud bell ripped through her ears. It wasn't from in here, it sounded like it was below them...gah! The room where they'd entered! They'd left the bodies there, and those two had probably walked right through there!
[blue]"Burning Hells!"[/blue] She cursed, running up to the desk and grabbing what looked to be a shipping manifest. [blue]"Grab what you can and go, better hope these is a roof awning below that window or this is going to be an interesting escape!"[/blue] She ordered to him, turning to face the door as the footsteps grew closer. Clearly the people from the adjacent rooms were coming to investigate, this might be going from interesting to deadly pretty quickly.

Aha....this promised to be interesting. Looked like a records room, or something to that effect. The staggering number of books and paperwork crammed into one room spoke to that well enough. He'd never much cared for books -- especially in large numbers -- unless they were of some sort of value. Reading was just too much of a bore to bother with. Too much sitting around and focusing on words on the page and not enough keeping a sharp lookout on your surroundings.
Never knew when an interesting opportunity would crop up, after all.
He plodded about the room, looking through the books and papers, and could only visibly flinch when he heard the sound of a bell. And rather than looking panicked or perhaps even mildly perturbed, he just looked...tired. Oh, great, this again... It was always the bodies. Always the bodies. This had happened enough to him he should've thought about this before now.
"Hindsight is a cruel mistress...." he muttered, mostly to himself. Almost lazily, it would seem, he spared Selena a long, searching glance. He really should have just cut and run right then, and got out while things were still somewhat managable. He could probably slip out without even being noticed if he left right now! But he'd already come this far... And it was bad form to abandon a job before you were paid.
"As much as I'd like to do just that, I can't help but think it would be....shall we say, rude." As was often the case in such frantic situations, when the border between interesting and deadly was fraying rapidly, his mind was scrambling end over end to think of a plausible way to get out of this mess -- to get them both out, for that matter -- that didn't involve a great deal of fighting.
......most ways out of here seemed like they would involve at least some measure of that. Just wonderful....actual combat. His favorite way to spend his time.

Selena had not been expecting the rogue to remain, and wasn't sure if she was pleased or annoyed by his surprising loyalty. She wasted no time in slamming her shoulder into a bookcase, knocking it over against the door, and spilling it's contents all over the floor with a loud crash. If they didn't know they were in here before, they did now.
[blue]"Your funeral!"[/blue] She half shouted at him, grabbing a stool by the desk in one hand and throwing it into the window, shattering the pane easily. She ran over to the window and peered out, seeing that there was indeed a small landing underneath them. With a little bit of climbing they'd be able to get to the actual roof, and maybe be able to get somewhere from there.
Or maybe not, but it was better then staying here or trying to fight through an entire building of thugs, not to mention the crooked guards that would no doubt show up. Thank god she'd left her metal armor in the inn, climbing in that suit was pretty rough. But in her leathers she should be able to manage it. Without waiting on Art, she climbed out the window, careful to not cut her hand on the glass, or miss her footing. Both would make climbing to the roof rather difficult.
As she stepped on the awning, she felt it start to sink, and reached for the roof, grasping it while placing her feet on the window frame to push herself up. Right, it likely wasn't meant for people to stand on, that awning. She was lucky it held her for the moment she was on it.
Once situated on the roof, which could hold her weight, she reached her hand down for her associate.
[blue]"Are you coming?"[/blue]
