"B-Bandit?! Hold on, kiddo...do I look like a brigand?!" Lena shouted rather surprisingly as she stepped a little closer to Elly, which might have been a bad idea.
Veigue just stood idly by as he had nothing else to do but sigh right as it all unfolded after Nayru and the stranger came along, but smirked once again as he crossed his arms. He was going to respond to Elly until this all happened, but not much he could say really. "...Well, you did just suddenly attack us. I'd say you were asking for it--"
"Hey! Quiet, you!" The sacaean woman couldn't help but end up falling down on her bum on the icey road. Veigue himself felt sorry for his sister, but in a sense, he was really curious as to why her of all people would pull off something crazy like that. Was she just playing around? If so, it'd be just like her. She probably didn't expect him to be around others either...which he could turn that back on himself and couldn't really believe it himself. As much as he wanted to question her immediately, it had to wait because of his catching onto the small movement of the apparent archer Nayru brought along. He...didn't seem harmful though if he was beside Nayru, so it made him curious as to why he appeared so defensive. But if he was going to do something sneaky, at least the swordsman would be on guard for it. He had too many surprises today.
Before he could say anything though, Lena raised to her feet as she was staring dead at Nayru for a couple of seconds. "...Hey. Aren't you..." The young woman bit down on her nail for a moment as she was trying to recall the information stored within her brain, as the tall woman seemed familiar. She then hit the palm of her hand with her other balled up fist as she gave a huge smile, apparently remembering now. "Yeah! I've met you before, a few years ago! I didn't think we'd bump into each other again so soon, and with my little bro too! Craaaazy!"
...Okay, what? Even Veigue had to arch his eyebrow out of confusion, a small sweat drop falling down the side of his face. They...actually met before? What was with all the wild and surprising stuff going on today? A bit in disbelief for a moment, he had to finally say something to save what sanity he had left of this moment. "...If I'm hearing right, you've met Nayru before I did? How...?"
"Hehehe...well, it's a long and funny story, you see...but uh, I might have to tell you later!" Lena cheerfully brushed it off as she stretched her arms out and gave Veigue a little aggressively playful hug that he didn't expect, yanking on him closer as she looked back into the direction of Nayru and the newcomer. "This is like the best day ever! ...aside from getting the stuffing knocked out of me by a cart! But if it isn't painfully obvious already, this dude and I are bro and sis!" She announced even more cheerfully while her poor brother was trying to break free. "Naaaayru, you totally have to tell me how this all even happened!"

While the whole situation more than she could cope with at once, Nayru had learned to take care of one thing at a time when there was too much to deal with. Prioritize and then act. Elly would need some token amount of attention, and possibly a friendly beating. Hayle was going to get them all killed. Lena had either attacked them or been attacked by Elly. Veigue was either protecting her or trying to kill her.
Just once, it would be nice to have a calm and peaceful day.
As her conscious mind wallowed in a desire for simplicity, Nayru moved unconsciously, throwing her left arm up between Hayle and the rest of the group in an attempt to head off a potentially problematic situation - he couldn't be blamed for not knowing what was going on, and she didn't know either, but if Veigue wasn't worried, she wasn't. As much. She was always worried about something. And Elly was probably to blame in all this, but she seemed convinced she had done something right, and Nayru couldn't well get mad at her with a face like that.
Bereft of a better idea, the manakete awkwardly patted Elly on the head, not entirely sure what sort of display of affection would be appropriate. She couldn't imagine the Lena she had met actually trying to kill innocent people, much less her own brother, but Elly seemed convinced she had saved the world from bandits. So there was that.
"Lena." Focusing back on a familiar face, Nayru offered a light smile, slightly guarded in her confusion but genuine. "We seem to meet in the strangest circumstances." Granted, she wasn't pulling the other woman up from a cliff this time, but a street fight wasn't a huge step up. And what the hell was this cart thing about? A thought occurred to her, and her smile grew mischievous, a joke that only she truly understood. "...It seems I am becoming the Magnus family's guardian angel," she quipped, entirely deadpan; a joke partially for Lena's benefit, but moreso her own. After all, neither of them would have any idea what she had done the better part of a century ago.
The memory of Veigue asking about his sister cropped up, and Nayru had to bite back the urge to facepalm. Standing beside each other, there were so many similarities that she should have known, making her lapse of memory all the more embarrassing. She couldn't remember exactly what every human ever looked like though, dammit! Living for a long time didn't mean infinite memory, and she could be excused for... occasionally... not making familial connections.

Elly glared at the so-called Lena as the taller woman stepped closer, flinching slightly in surprise, fear spiking as she stared up at the bandit. Chagrin filled her, embarrassment making her face flush brightly before she steeled herself; was she a shy bartender hiding behind her father's figure, or a knight of Ilia? She crossed her arms, feeling annoyed; as to whether her anger was directed at the stranger or herself, though, she had no idea. "How'm I supposed to know what all you bandits look like?"
She looked away broodily, right as Lena fell to the ground. Her eyes widened in surprise briefly, shock that was quickly replaced by a smug smirk. "See? Ilia's on th' side of justice!" Her mirth died away soon after, however, her brow furrowing in confusion as the woman addressed Nana. Why was it that everyone seemed to know her from wherever? Nayru's touch was reassuring, at least; she guessed that meant she had done something right. She listened attentively, trying to figure out where it all came from. Lies, lies, tales of banditry, probably, more lies....and, Veggie's sister? She gasped in surprise, rounding up on her friend in an instant. "Veggie!" She raised her voice urgently, almost yelling, not caring about who heard her. Far more urgent concerns raced through her mind, with one question at the core of it all. "Why is your sister a bandit?"

The situation had Hayles nerves doing a frightful imitation of an overly tightly wound lute. It was bad enough dealing with one person who seemed determined, maybe through no fault of their own but determined nonetheless to walk his sanity down the garden path and into the waiting maw of the lion. The real question was, feet or head first?
Yes. He was not having a particularly good time at the moment. But making the situation worse was not going to help.
The readied arrow found refuge amongst its friends, though Hayle took the brief moment to ensure he didn't damage the delicate fletching on the end while doing so. This was a conversation he felt it best to stay out of, to merely observe rather than provide input.
I mean, he didn't even know these people or what he was getting himself into.
He decided to rest against the nearest wall. It was either that or thump his head into it a few times and for all he knew, that would just make the situation worse.

After granting her brother a swift release, the somewhat energetic plainswoman chuckled at Nayru's remark. "Well, it's true! I would have been long gone and never seen again if it wasn't for you. All due to me being such a klutz. I've made sure to watch my steps way more carefully now!" Hitting at Veigue's shoulder, she continued with a little smirk. "Lemme guess with little bro here...jumped into something waaaay bigger than he could handle and almost got himself killed in the process?"
"...Hmph." Veigue wanted to say something in response, but he just didn't bother. He suffered enough humiliation as is, and he didn't need his sister embarrassing him on top of that. This talk of her being a "klutz" really got him wondering about the full story on how the two met. Knowing Lena, she either tripped at the worst moment possible during a struggle, or she probably fell off of something. His train of thought was momentarily interrupted when the man Nayru brought along took interest in resting on the wall. Guess that meant he could ease a bit of tension off his own shoulders. Had to wonder how he got dragged, or forced, along. Either Nayru or himself would likely shed light on that soon enough. Important thing was that no was going to get hurt.
Not like he could think anymore, as Lena herself apparently jumped far back and hid behind him when Elly called out to him. Hah! Was his sister really afraid of her after the cart attack? Not that he could blame her, as even he didn't see that coming. Before he could answer her, Lena lowered her voice while clenching Veigue's shoulders...still in a rather frightened position.
"So, uh...is she like a gremlin in a girl's body or something?"
"...Don't be absurd. You could make this easier by coming clean, you know."
"...Meanie."
As their brief little whispers were concluded, Veigue forced his sister from behind him as he crossed his arm. "Good question, Elly. Why have you taken up banditry, sis?" It was his own way of both getting back at her and wanting the truth from her spilled already. The young woman kept looking back and forth between her brother and the squire, hardly believing she was getting tagged teamed like this. Eventually, she settled with a sigh before falling to the icy street again. "Ohhh, fine...first off, I'm not a bandit. Seriously. Secondly, I only meant to attack Veigue...until this little pumpkin pie here approached me unexpectedly. Guess 'Veggie' here misinterpreted my stance as trying to harm her, so that's how the chaos unfolded." She followed with sticking her tongue out towards her brother. "...I just wanted to see how much you've improved over these nine years without me."
All right, he could definitely believe that. His sister had over the top ways of getting what she wanted, even if it was something completely insane to where it could make you laugh. His tension leveled down immensely afterward, settling with his usual look now. "...I see. How did you find me, anyway?" As soon as he asked the question, his sister actually gave a rather serious expression after standing back to her feet and reaching into her pocket.
"It was my other reason for attacking you. So..." She revealed a folded up paper, until allowing it unfold on it's own and held out a wanted poster with his poorly drawn description. "...Mind explaining to me now, Veigue? What in the hell did you get yourself involved in to warrant a 1,000 gold bounty on your head?!" She raised her voice, obviously showing how upset she was about it. After his rather shocked reaction to her words, he merely turned his head in shame, shutting his eyes as he had no idea how to reply. In truth, he was just as clueless as she was, and that made it all the more disgraceful to admit anything since he didn't know anything about it himself. Becoming a bit blinded by her anger, Lena grabbed hold of Veigue's jacket, yanking him closer. "Don't give me the silent treatment. What's going on? I've met this Jaquio guy to find you, and he's determined with a bloody passion to kill you. It's hard to believe my innocent little brother would commit a crime heinous enough for someone resorting to hunting him down! Or...have you really let what he said to you cloud your judgment so badly to walk down that path? Not only are you in danger, but those around you are at risk too. You know way better than this. Well? Answer me!"
Despite her demanding the answers, he still shamefully couldn't give a proper response. He had to wonder to himself if he was just curse with unfortunate circumstances befalling him? How could he answer her when his nemesis was someone he didn't even know, or what he could have done to even make this worth forfeiting his life over? If it was a crime he was aware of, then he'd have no problem suffering his fate.

'Something way bigger than they could handle and almost getting themselves killed in the process.' Nayru snorted, mumbling something that sounded suspiciously like "another Magnus family custom" though clearly she would never say anything like that and it was just a trick of the wind. They had all been likeable, and well meaning and noble and all of that malarkey, but DAMMIT if the family as a whole didn't have a deathwish and tendency to attract trouble that made her look like a functional and rational member of society. Which was saying something! ...Since she was having a discussion with herself. In her head. Mmmmmoving on.
Things went from comical and upbeat to deadly serious faster than she was entirely equipped to respond to, Lena turning from an easy-going loving sister to a hellion from hell in the course of a couple progressively angrier sentences as she called Veigue to task for, uh, why a criminally insane criminal, who was both insane and a criminal, was chasing him. HAD they ever actually covered that? It seemed a bit extreme to have a continent-wide criminal organization dead set on hunting down a lone swordsman, even if he was a do-gooder. Was it the sword? She couldn't remember if he'd ever actually mentioned it, or if it was just all the meaningful looks at his sword as he avoided the question. For that matter, she wasn't sure if she was supposed to know - or WHY the hell they wanted the sword in the first place. Assuming they did. ...They did, right? Dammit this was like a really bad play and she had never been handed the script. Obviously there was more to it though, probably, but then there was the insane thing...
Lena's actions were easier to respond to, and so she did, dimly grasping that the heated situation needed to be halted in its tracks before tempers flared further. Since Veigue didn't seem particularly interested in answering, Nayru took a smooth step forward, fluidly moving to grasp Lena's hand with her own in a grip beyond human. "Veigue is my-" The word was harder to say than she had anticipated in her half-baked scheme to solve the situation instantly. A small part of her mind filed that away for future reference under the "still has lots of issues" category. "-Friend, and I will stand beside him regardless of the danger." It was probably good she wasn't thinking this through or she might consider being embarrassed; that would come immediately after she finished talking. "We are trying to discover the cause of this," getting into her stride for a moment before her voice immediately lapsed down to a casual conversational tone, "but I do not believe this is a discussion fit for the middle of a busy city street."
Her thin smile was genuine but strained, trying to put a friendly front on in the wake of her words and her rapidly building frustration. Losing control of her emotions here would result in rather more dead folks than she was hoping to add to the tally today, and Nayru was quite certain that she did not want Veigue and Lena to be among them.
(TECHNICALLY I did not specify that she actually succeeded in grabbing Lena's hand but if it's not too much fuss it'd be cool if she did succeed, didn't want to godmod it but it adds weight to her words. If that is fine, just assume she releases Lena immediately after finishing)

The sudden grab from Nayru caused the young woman to flinch a tad out of surprise, but allowed the words to sink in before looking back to her brother, who was hellbent at not giving her eye contact. After deeply inhaling and exhaling silently, she released her own grip from his jacket. It was surely an embarrassing moment, and as such, she faced in another direction clamping her hands together out of nervousness. "I...I'm sorry." Lost for anymore words, now she was the one who couldn't really look at anyone directly but sit there and tweedle her thumbs. She was quite a ashamed of herself.
The silent swordsman still chose to say nothing as he also stared off into a blank space. Though suddenly, that aching pain in his chest came back, his hand placed in the center out of mere reaction, though it wasn't a strong, hasty grip that could catch much attention. Eventually toughing it out a mere second later, he also turned his back, but actually began walking sluggishly away. Since his back was turned, no one could see the rather frustrated expression he settled for. The tenseness from both the situation and the chest ache wasn't very pleasant and just silently wished to himself that at least one of the painful feelings would go away.
While briefly turning his head to the side to look at them shortly from the corner of his eye, he turned his sights back forward before walking away at a normal speed. He didn't really have a set destination, just that he desired a walk around alone to clear his mind. He wanted to say something, but he decided not to bother and just went off towards one of the busy, yet not too crowded streets. He had no desire to be seen in this state and his apparent health problem just added more frustration to deal with.
"...W-wait, Veigue! I'm--" Her shouting out to him was in vain since she didn't want to chase after him and cause an even bigger scene, hence stopping herself before bigger attention was placed on the group. As her brother walked further and further away, she dropped her arm with a frustrating, yet soft sigh. "We finally see each other after nearly a decade and now we're fighting...this would make mother so unhappy." The thought of her mother caused her to grab her emerald pendant that she visibly wore unlike Veigue, who kept it underneath his jacket hidden from thieves. She was disappointed how she handled the situation, but couldn't help but notice that something about her brother drastically changed from how she used to remember him.
Shaking herself back into reality again, she finally worked up the guts to turn back to the group following up a forced smile. "...I'm sorry I made a scene. I just allowed my emotions to control me for that moment when I lashed out...and thanks for stopping me, Nayru. I let my ignorance of the situation cause some unneeded tension." She was still worried about leaving her brother alone, but he probably didn't want to talk to her, forcing herself to once again let it go and just wait for him to come back. She at least knew that he wasn't one to just leave and never come back at all...and considering how well he developed his skills, she didn't have to worry too much on him getting in trouble...still didn't stop her from worrying about him, especially considering the bounty.

"I - it was nothing," Nayru attempted to respond with serene grace that ended up tinged with a tone of awkwardness of her own as what she had said caught up to her conscious mind. Any direct embarassment aside, the realization that she had butted headfirst into what was clearly a family matter was already weighing on her. Sure, it hadn't ended up with bloodshed, but who was to say Veigue and Lena might not have been able to clear it up on their own given time? As things stood, Veigue had stormed off to parts unknown and even Lena didn't seem to have any idea what to do, a far cry from the self-assured and decisive young woman Nayru had met a few years ago.
She couldn't help but be reminded of a similar scene from long ago, in which another young woman had destroyed a relationship she held dear out of youthful arrogance and stupidity. If only that situation had resolved itself like this one was likely to in the near future, given that both siblings still clearly loved each other. "We all make mistakes, but it is by learning from them that we grow - and by repairing them that relationships grow ever stronger." The irony of her lecturing anyone else in the thrice-damned world about healthy relationships and fixing mistakes was not lost on Nayru, but it was the best she could do to try to comfort Lena in the wake of her own poor de-escalation of the situation. If only she was half as smart as she tried to let on, or a tenth as good with people as Erim was, maybe she could've done something more here.
The simple truth, though, was that as she was Nayru did not have enough information to resolve the situation, nor the certainty that it was her place to even try. The two of them would have to work out their own problems, which she believed was likely, but someone like her did not have the right to intervene in their lives. They'd both be better off without her, after all, for obvious reasons.
All perfectly sound logic, and yet she could not help but want to do something to make up for her actions a moment ago. Veigue wandering off was less than optimal as these things went, though, especially considering the whole bounty situation... which she didn't entirely understand herself. But that was Veigue's place to explain, so rather than asking about it behind his back she should be asking him about it, she supposed. Or maybe not, if it was dangerous enough to possibly get Elly hurt? Nayru wavered for a moment before an idea struck her, or at least the barest framework of the concept of an idea that still needed a lot of working out. Not that it stopped her from jumping at it anyways. "I will keep him safe." She smiled, attempting to be reassuring despite the guilt she could not help but experience knowing the irony inherent to her actually protecting anyone. "-And we will get to the bottom of this. What happened in the past is between you two, but no one deserves to suffer their entire lives for a past indiscretion."
Wishful thinking yet again. The hypocrisy in her words was palpable; Nayru knew full well that she deserved whatever she had coming to her, and what she had said sounded more like an empty excuse to her than anything, but Veigue certainly didn't deserve whatever this Jaquio fellow had in store for him. "...And you have my apologies for interfering."

"Don't apologize for that. If you didn't intervene, I probably would have hit him or something...and knowing Veigue, he would have taken a beating instead of fighting me back." Her following sigh was more of a relaxing one, as she recalled times where they fought among each other in childhood. He always had too much respect to hit her back, even when she deserved it. But on the bright side, they hardly ever got into disagreements in the first place, so that's probably why those times were very...memorable, because they were rare. But Nayru's words were reassuring enough to place a smile on her face. Really, he'd be in good hands, considering it was those same hands that...pulled her back up from a potentially deadly fall. "...Thank you, truly. I'll be honest. I didn't want us to go our separate ways when we left home almost a decade ago, but he was so determined to grow stronger on his own that it was difficult to say no."
Finally releasing her mother's pendant, thoughts of their father came suddenly rushing through her mind, though she allowed them to be the good memories...those she wished her brother experienced as well. "I really don't want to part again and I want help him directly after he finally opens up, but eventually...I'll have to leave again. Jaquio prrrrrrobably won't be too happy I faked a job, so he might send some thugs after me...and I'd rather be elsewhere than them attacking you all and exposing my brother. Plus, if they learn of our relationship, it'll just make things complicated."
Blackmail...hostage attempts...stuff like that instantly came to mind. Not that she'd allow some common thug to capture her, but considering...how clumsy she was, a boulder could trap her underneath it, or something else equally absurd. If crazed-assassins were after her brother on a daily basis, then the forces of nature were ALWAYS out to get her. Both amused and disturbed at the thought because it was actually true, she lightly shook her head to relieve herself of such thoughts and returned tot he seriousness of the moment. "He's been tough as nails since a kid, so I'm not too worried...but I do appreciate looking out for him. Just...watch out for that lone wolf complex of his. I'm sure he's been thinking of solving the whole thing by himself without harming you all, so I just don't want him darting off against Jaquio and his little gang on his own...I can almost guarantee you he'll do it." She didn't know whether to laugh or what.
---
The swordsman wandered the street, settling with resting his hands in the pockets of his jacket. Lena's words cut him pretty deep, but the shame from being clueless about his own enemies was utterly disgusting to where he couldn't speak back. People don't just throw bounties around, so he had to have done something to spark it. After all, his existence had to be a plague if he had tensions as early as seven years old. But with enough self-destruction for a moment, he hung on a wall for a little bit before holding his chest in pain once more. With the clearing of his mind, he was able to remember it was one of the symptoms for overexertion, so he probably required a full rest. He wasn't going to allow some chest ache to disturb his train of thought, toughing it out again before pushing himself off the wall and kept walking.
Thinking back on his sister, he wasn't even angry with her...though she was obviously upset over the whole thing. He heard her calling out to her before he left, but she didn't seem to follow him, so he wondered what she was up to. When they used to fight, she'd eventually came back later and tackled the crap outta him. While it would be nice to have a second chance at resolving the situation, he...kinda missed the tackles and kinda didn't at the same time. Even though she was small, she had the force of a charging bull...and who knows how much stronger she's become over the years.
While still in deep though, he was beginning to cross a very tall man covered in a thick winter coat. He always remained on guard in general when anyone would pass him, but suddenly as they finally crossed, the man gently placed his hand on the Sacaean's shoulder, patting it twice before continuing to walk towards the direction he was headed. Veigue turned back as he watched the man casually stroll away as if nothing happened. That was...weird, but he didn't feel any hostility from the action, so he eventually left it alone and kept walking.

Nayru refrained from responding immediately, a little jealous of their familial relationship and equally uncertain of how to view it. They loved each other, of course, but there were unhealthy themes that she could not help but notice. It was not her place to judge or to fix it, though; the best she could do was support them both as they figured it out between them. And that apparently meant keeping them from beating each other to death. Sometimes she didn't mind being an only child. She couldn't help but remember Erim trying to talk her out of leaving hundreds of years ago, recognize the similarities in what she and Veigue had done, but at least he hadn't poisoned any chance of returning peacefully and pleasantly, and his sister was still looking out for him. And also a mercenary thug.
It was admirable that Lena was ready to lead off the thugs rather than involve her brother, but there were similarities in their handling of situations, the fierce independence and reluctance to rely on others, that were all too familiar. "I see that independence continues to be the Magnus family's defining trait," Nayru quipped evenly with a small smile. Perhaps it was a silly trait, but a noble one nonetheless. And SOMEHOW the Magnuses hadn't gotten themselves all killed yet, so apparently it was working out for them. "-But Elly is impossible to dislodge, so he will have some difficulty disappearing into the horizon to do anything silly." Actually, where HAD Elly gotten off to anyways? The hubbub in the street around them was already rapdly dying down, but she didn't see the pink menace anywhere. Hayle was still there th-oh crap, Hayle was still there?
She'd forgotten about him entirely in the heat of the moment. Turning to her companion with a half-smile, Nayru opted to introduce him and apologize at once. "You have my apologies for dragging you into this, Hayle. As you can see, my companions are-" she paused, searching for a descriptive but non-insulting way to encapsulate them, "-quite lively." Never a dull moment, whether it was Elly starting a catastrophe or Veigue attracting cutthroats from across the continent for reasons yet unknown. "And Lena is an old friend of mine."

Snapping out of his reverie upon being addressed, Hayle gave a wry smile as he glanced in Nayru's direction.
"Nothing to worry about really. Though, uh... we seem to be missing short, pink and hyper."
Rolling his shoulders a little and stretching his neck to work the kinks out from resting against that cold stone wall, he pondered briefly upon the best course of action.
"If you would be so kind as to help me up," he asked, reaching his hand in the general vicinity of his companions, "We can go and look for the girl or I can give you a hand with whatever seems to be the problem here. Bow's not just for show, after all."
Of course, Hayle was sorta hoping the offer wouldn't get taken up. For all he knew, they were on some epic quest to slay the dragon and rescue the princess or something. It was the least he could do though. And it'd hopefully lead to some sort of regular eating schedule. And maybe, just maybe, some new companions would help make things a little easier for him.

"Hmm..." The worried woman pondered as she wondered where exactly her brother wandered off to. Asking Nayru to find him for her seemed...a little wrong for some reason. They needed to make up to avoid any tension in the future, but...she really needed to disappear soon. Jaquio probably had a spy in the area and word of her failure was probably going to reach his ear relatively soon. The fact that the guy NEEDED spies to keep an eye on his hired thugs meant that he was serious about seeing her brother dead...which scared her, but if she could keep he and his friends out of danger, then it was about time she'd hit the road ASAP. She didn't want to leave without at least saying good-bye to her brother, but time wasn't on her side today, apparently. Certainly was both a good and bad day indeed.
However, he seemed safe by the side of his companions, Lena being at least happy he made any friends on his journey. Just as she was going to respond to Nayru, however, she finally noticed the man on the ground that whole time while in the heat of the moment earlier as he and the tall woman conversed briefly. How long was he there? Ah well, guess that didn't matter much. Feeling inclined to help, she quickly ran over as she immediately grabbed his hand. "Let me help, sir!" helping him off the cold ground, she gave him a nod. She wasn't sure if he was apart of the group either, but if he was, she needed to thank him as well...or at least until she figured that out. The mention of the little girl though...
...Huh. Where DID she go? It almost sent a shiver up her spine as the swordswoman was still unsure if the young girl was convinced that she wasn't a bandit. Ah! She could be preparing another cart as she spoke! Trying not to panic at the thought, she decided to keep her cool after a sigh as she turned back to Nayru. "...I wish I could help you find her and my brother, but...as I said, I should probably slip away and get out of Ilia while I can before they can get a lock on me. But Nayru...can I ask you another favor?" The young woman reached into a pack on her side that...was surprisingly still there considering what happened. Her hand slipped into the larger compartment as she pulled out what appeared to be a thick booklet, though that wasn't what it was. "...This is a lengthy journal belonging to Sigmund Magnus, our father. I want to give it to Veigue, as it...might help him sort some things out if he reads the whole thing. But with him MIA right now, I can't do that. Can you please give this to him when you all meet up again? Sorry to ask this of you."
(OOC: I went on ahead and allowed Lena to help pull Hayle up after the hand offer. Hope that was okay.)

...Where the devil HAD Elly gotten off to, anyways? Nayru's worry for one friend warred with her concern for the other; both Veigue and Elly had gone missing in an unknown town, and she could not help but worry that ill might have befallen one or both of them. Veigue was the one who had stormed off into the snow, though, while Elly had likely either slunk off to hide her embarrassment, or possibly to complete that report she had mentioned to Ilian high command, or whatever the military structure they worked under, she could never quite remember. If she HAD gone after Veigue, they would likely find the two together, but even if not, Veigue was probably the one in more danger, if only due to the Jaquio issue.
-That was what was wrong, the manakete realized. Without Aerious around to take charge of situations, they didn't have a clear... leader, or even real consensus. Elly would agree to anything, Veigue would move heaven and earth to avoid inconveniencing anyone, and she... she would pretty much do the same in hoping of not losing the few people she actually knew and cared about. In a way, Aerious had been almost the - glue that held the group together, no matter his shortcomings, and with him gone there was something missing.
Lena's request provided a welcome distraction from the labyrinth of her own thoughts. A journal, huh? The name didn't ring a bell, it certainly wasn't Vandalf, but it -sorta- made sense that there had been someone in the family in the, uh, eighty to one hundred years since Vandalf had been alive, she wasn't really sure. It all kinda blended together sometimes. She had been doing favors to Magnuses for generations now, apparently - what was one more bit of help? "Well, beats hauling you up a cliff." A joke? From her? The world really must be ending. "Sure, I had already planned to hunt him down anyways. In a... very non-predatory manner."
She coughed, her mouth getting ahead of her brain in a very strange way. That was gonna get her killed someday. "...You have Vandalf's eyes. He would be proud." It came out without thinking, and she was already turning her attention to the newly-risen Hayle as she considered his[/s] words. How curious! He did seem like a genuinely decent person, and she could sense... something about him that hinted at pain she could recognize, in a way. Maybe not a familiar pain, and Nayru would not insult him by pretending to understand his past or his pain, but she had born enough misery in her long life to recognize a fellow sufferer no matter how well they hid it. A small perk to being more than twenty human generations in age.
...And with Aerious and Veigue both gone, there really wasn't anyone else down to accept his offer or shoot him down.
"You are welcome to stay with us, Hayle." It was completely unplanned and out of left field; Nayru didn't even know half of what she was saying, but she knew she wanted to help. He seemed like he could use the companionship. And maybe if they got attacked by gargoyles again, having a bow user around would be less frustrating than throwing dead gargoyles at the living ones until she finally managed to hit one. THAT had been a horrible day, even by her standards. "Solitude is poor company indeed on the dusty road of life."

Nodding in acknowledgement of the young girl assisting him to his feet, Hayle took the time to brush the snow and dirt off his back while pondering how best to act from here.
"Mmmm... I do guess I can come with. Gotta try and earn something to survive on. Besides, what could possibly go wrong?"
Even as the words left his mouth, Hayle begin to regret them just a little bit. It was as if with that one, simple sentence, he'd sentenced himself to a life of suffering and torment. After all, was that not what happened whenever someone uttered those words, or something akin to them?
"You are right though. Perhaps some company would indeed make the journey easier."

"Hehe, thanks! I'm certain now that he'll get the thing. Glad I did it this way." Despite the joke, it was obvious that Veigue must have held an attachment to Nayru and the group, so he probably wouldn't leave them behind here for...wherever he went off to. He just needed to clear his head, and that was enough to stop worrying for a while. Though her head jerked back towards Nayru on the Vandalf comment, the name being extremely familiar as her brain was biting away at her for not being able to remember. Vandalf...Vandalf...argh. Okay, okay she'd just have to think about it when she wasn't in danger anymore. If she sat there pulling her hair all day trying to recall the name, she'd be surrounded by dozens of thugs and assassins by then...but at least the others would have been gone by then, soo...it was "sorta" a win-win situation.
With enough of her playing around, she walked towards the two before giving them a slight bow. "Again, thanks for everything. I wish I could have handled things different with my brother and had enough time to stay, but it's time to hit the road." Farewells were always tough for her, but what could she do? "Hopefully I'll see all of you again...aaaand that your little friend doesn't think of me as a bandit anymore too!" No more carts pls.
With a wave of her hand towards the both of them after walking away, she headed towards the street that lead to the entrance. Where would she go, anyways...? Maybe back to Aurnion? She still had business to attend to there, and the small village needed some serious help right now. Guess it was off to Bern, then. It was a chance day for her, but maybe sometime in the future, she could mend ties with her brother. Where there's a will, there's a way, right? And she had plenty of other tasks to focus on as well to pass the time.
