Name: Selk Mar
Class: Recruit -> Knight -> General
Hair Color: Maroon
Eye Color: Sea Green
Age: 17
Appearance: Selk stands at six feet four inches in height and weighs about two hundred twenty pounds. He is not overly burly or muscular, but it is obvious that he's done his fair share of hard labor for someone his age as far as that goes. He is not what most would consider fat, but by no means does he have a skinny build. His frame is a sturdy one with broad shoulders and a naturally wide stance. Although his skin is weather-worn and he has a slight tan, Selk has no battle scars to speak of yet. His usual hairstyle is an untidy and unkempt one with his hair reaching the tip of his nose in front, the bottoms of his ears on the sides, and the base of his neck in the back.
Clothes: Selks attire when he isn't in armor would be considered peasant wear. Brown leather boots with white socks are the base of his outfit. He wears a pair of navy pants with a brown leather belt. He wears a long sleeve white shirt with the tail lof his shirt tucked into his pants.
His armor is much more intricate than his everyday clothing. It is also of very high quality, considered to be on par with what some high ranking soldiers wear when they enter combat. The primary color of the armor is a dark teal color which is complemented by the color of the trim which is silver. The main body armor consists of a chest plate that extends to the upper abdomen, a back plate that covers Selk's entire backside down to his waist, two shoulder pauldrons that hang down just slightly on the sides to cover a bit more of his shoulder than normal, and a gorget to protect his neck from attacks. The armor for his waist down is comprised of a belt which the hip, crotch, and rear protective plates are attached to and a full pair of greaves that extended from the upper thigh to the lower shin. To complete his armor he also dons gauntlets, plate boots, and a full helm with a drop down face guard.
Born in: Caelin, Lycia
Story: The youngest of three siblings was born seventeen years ago to a farming mother and a mercenary father. He was raised on his mother's farm. The farm was fairly small and was one of the few farms that existed on the outskirts of the city of Caelin. Being such a small nation that only had the capitol city of Caelin for land, it had little military strength to protect itself with. Although he was a mercenary, Selk's father was generally employed by the few nobles of House Caelin or, on rare occasion, the local farmers who could afford it in order to protect their land from bandits, marauders, or predators who preyed on the farmers' livestock.
Because of this fact, Selk saw very little of his father. Despite this fact, he had a rather enjoyable childhood. He grew up being the 'baby' of the family. Although he was the only male of the three siblings and he was the youngest, he actually got along with his twin older sisters quite well. The fact that they were only two years older than him probably helped.
His time on the farm was one that most would consider fitting for someone of his heritage. He learned all the things it took to run a farm. How to raise cattle, keep a chicken coop, and grow many types of crops for sale and for self sufficiency. His mother and two sisters helped out with the outdoor labor occasionally or when the livestock were in danger and need to be herded into the barn or were under attack by wolves, coyotes, and the like. Other than that, most of the farm work was turned over to Selk seeing as he was the only male member of the household.
By this time, Selk was sixteen years old. Over the course of his life so far he'd only seen his father about sixteen times, or once per year. Selk was a curious young man with a strong will, so ever since he was young he'd wanted to become a soldier like his father. Not only because he was intrigued by his father's mysterious and adventurous lifestyle, but also to see what it was that kept him away from the family he loved so much.
Selk would finally get his wish, too. The very day of his seventeenth birthday, Selk's father returned to the farm with not one, but two suits of armor in his possession among many other things. He presented the second set to Selk as a gift. It had taken five years worth of saving gold here and there for his father to afford such a masterfully crafted suit of armor. His father was only disappointed that he couldn't have afforded it for his sixteenth birthday so it could have been a present for his coming of age.
Selk could have cared less about the gift being a year late. He thought it was better late than never and accepted the gift with glee. With some help from his father and explanation on how it was supposed to be worn and fitted, Selk donned his new armor with pride for the first time. The moment Selk walked out of his room suited up, his mother and sisters presented him with his final gift. A lightweight, but sturdy lance. His mother explained that both the armor and the lance had been crafted by Selk's uncle and cousin from Laus.
Selk couldn't believe it. He hadn't told anyone of his dream to become a soldier and travel the lands as a brave mercenary like his father. The dumbfounded look on Selk's face gave him away, and that's when his mother explained. She recalled all the times during his youth when she'd seen him playing soldier or hero out in the fields. Using nothing more than a stick for his weapon to fight off the evil bandit bushes. The whole family had a laugh at this, and Selk realized that what they said was true. At the time he hadn't thought that anyone was watching him, but his mother had kept her eye on him the whole time.
It was then that Selk's father smiled and said, "Now, my son, you will travel to Ostia and become a knight. Rise above your humble roots and become something we can be proud of. Chase your dream of being a valiant soldier. That is our gift to you. Make us proud, son."
After packing for the rest of the day and resting well that night, Selk set out on the biggest adventure of his life. He was to become a member of Ostia's militia first, and aim to work his way up to knight. This is where his journey began.
NOTE: I was told that an RP sample would be required before I could be accepted as a trainee tier character. With that in mind, I've placed it in the appropriate field below.

Selk stood at attention as he awaited for his commanding officer to instruct him on his duties for the day. It was his first formal meeting as a member of Ostia's militia. Even though it was only the militia and not the actual knighthood, he still couldn't help but be a bit prideful. He stood tall and kept his chin up as his commanding officer went down the line of recruits giving each of the newest members instructions on what their duties were as members of the militia.
With the way that things have been in Ostia recently, what with the rebuilding and recovery still going on, I'm sure to see combat at some point. I just have to prove myself. His thoughts were quickly brought to a screeching halt as anxiety and nervousness took over. His commanding officer stood in front of him and examined him thoroughly. "You've got that look of longing for combat, recruit. You also seem to be very proud of something. I don't know what, though. Don't mind me asking, do you?" The commander asked solemnly.
Selk couldn't tell whether he was being sarcastic or whether he was serious, so he replied with the truth. "Sir, I've been dreaming my whole life of becoming a soldier, but up until recently my family couldn't afford armor or a weapon for me to do so. So yes, sir, I do long for a chance to prove myself. As for my pride....well....to accomplish my dream....sir, I think that's something to be proud of, sir. Not many people accomplish their dreams, and this is the first step to accomplishing mine."
Selk's voice was shaky and he'd begun to sweat slightly as he spoke. Nervousness ran rampant all over him, and it was almost immediately obvious to anyone who looked at him. Still, he didn't hesitate to reply. His commanding officer sighed, "Recruit, don't be so hasty to jump into battle. You don't have the experience to fight yet. But don't worry, you'll get training on all the basics and I'll even show you a trick or two. You might be a bit naive, but your heart seems to be in the right place. Between you and me, recruit, a man's dreams are the only things he has to hold on to in this world, so hold on to your dream and fight for what you believe in."
Selk didn't know how to take his commander's reply. He was speechless for a moment. Then he asked, "Sir, what are my orders for today?" to which his commander replied, "Training, recruit, training, training, training, and just when you're tired of training, you'll train some more. Someone once told me that if you put a weapon in a man's hand you have an expendable soldier. If you put a fire in his heart you have a champion." His commander chuckled at that and walked off. As he walked away he motioned for Selk to follow.......
