Name: Evios Amphidamos
Class: Recruit
Hair Color: Green
Eye Color: Blue
Age: 16
Appearance: Evios doesn't give off the look of an aspiring soldier at first glance with his average at best height and meager physical stature. His body isn't so thin it looks sickly, but it also doesn't seem to possess much strength. He gives off the look of an artisan rather than a hoplite. His pale skin despite living most of his life on the coast of Nabata further detracts from the persona he so tirelessly endeavors to exude. His green hair weaves around his head in tight curls much like his father's and his eyes are of a blue as brilliant as the sea, not unlike his mother's.
Clothes: Evios normally dons the clothing he brought with him from Helios which consists of light colored (often white) short togas and tunics and his favorite blue cloak made for him by his dear sister in law. His cloak bares a pattern resembling ocean waves in silver thread along the bottom trim and his tunics all sport intricately pattered trims as well. He often goes barefoot, but he also does wear a pair of sandals that lace up to his knees. The reason for him preferring to not wear them being that lacing up his sandals is too much of a hassle most of the time. The only thing closest to armor that he owns is a pair of wrist cuffs made of bronze. Other than that, his shield is the only line of defense he has.
Born In: Helios, Nabata
Story: Born into a family of artisans in Helios; a colony town on the coast of Nabata belonging to the Precian Empire across the sea, Evios was brought up sheltered and well-educated. Though he didn't have the luxury of learning philosophy and art at the famed academies in the Precian capitals of Gelthos and Diathra, his parents did and they passed down most of their knowledge and ability to him. Skill with the arts, the rich history of the mainland, the many styles of philosophy taught there, mathematics, even how to predict the weather for a good harvest. Unfortunately, young Evios was not satisfied with being an artisan and philosopher. He had heard tales of great heroes from the mainland. Slayers of monsters and masters of conquest. While he enjoyed the lessons and skills his parents passed on to him and his older brother Mithas, he could not help but be entranced by the stories he heard.
When Evios came of age, he applied to join the army and be sent to the mainland for duty as a hoplite. Unfortunately, he was immediately turned down without interview thanks to his stature. The aspiring warrior was born frail and while his family helped him overcome it in his younger years, it did little but make him average physically. Thin, not particularly tall, and pale - Evios was turned away every time he went in for recruitment. Not that the army couldn't strengthen him up. It was his height that was the problem. The Precian army required a minimum of six feet in height for hoplites. Standing at a mere five feet nine inches, poor Evios didn't make the cut. He was offered a position as a recruit for the cavalry many times, but the boy was adamant about being a hoplite. If he wasn't allowed to be on the front lines, spear and shield in hand, he did not want to serve in the army at all.
As Evios aged, he grew only slightly. Not enough to be accepted as a hoplite. His brother had already left home and gotten married, starting a pottery business for himself and his new bride. Despite Evios' talents in art and underestimated mind, he had nothing to show for it by the age of sixteen. By that point, he was close to being too old to sign up for the army as it was policy to train soldiers young in the Precian Empire. Evios had been made aware of the lands of Elibe by explorers returning from their journey. He was told of war and conflict and the stark militarism of some of the territories. This put a spring in Evios' step as he immediately went to hsi parents to plead for their permission to leave on a journey. He masked it as an educational trek to study the cultures and geography of Elibe, but his true goal was to find a place that would train him and enlist him in their army. His parents knew better and saw through his lie. They couldn't stand to lose their child, but they also wanted to see him happy. They allowed him to leave with the promise that he would make it back alive. The young man took that opportunity to hurriedly pack and then spend the rest of the night crafting himself a spearhead to fasten to the pole he used to practice combat with and hid it outside of the gate of the town along with his wickerwork practice shield.
The day Evios left Helios on his journey, his parents pleaded to the gods for his protection. The new explorer gathered his weapon and shield from their hiding places and started on the first day of the rest of his life.
