The snow, the cold... It was always a rather obvious thing why most people did not wish to go to Illia. Karen never really minded the snow and the cold, but it was still rather annoying to travel in. If anything though, it perhaps made things easier for her to perform her work in the frost, her robes and hair causing her to practically blend in at times. Well, regardless of this, she still wore more clothing than usual to deal with the cold. A heavy cloak, another scarf, padded boots, even padded gloves. Frostbite was not something that Karen could afford in her line of work. No, not only was it career ending, but also a life ending sort of result.
Luckily, she did not need to wade through the growing snow for much longer. She was now coming up on a nearby village that was along her route to the target's location. She stopped in at a local inn, setting up a room with the innkeeper before depositing her bag and gloves on the bed of said room. After heading back downstairs, she placed an order for a plate of nice warm food and sat herself in a corner table, preferring to simply be left alone for a time after that trek.

Today was another busy day, the inn hadn't been full yet but the customers just kept coming. Lynessa was cooking in the kitchen with a few servants she had hired. The ice dragon looked rather overwhelmed with the order but she seemed to enjoy it. After all, cooking was one of her hobbies. The inn had always had good profit but one of the strong points which made the inn sell so well was her cooking. "Jean, two meat stews and two glasses of warm milk! Ann, we need more potatoes and carrots here, please go and bring some from the storehouse! And anyone, please remind me to buy new pan later..." Lynessa was instructing servants to work. She had learnt to manage them properly without overworking them or making them unsatisfied. Roy was actually better than her with the management things so she always looked at him for guidance, which the man taught her sometimes. He wasn't only a good husband but also a good teacher, especially in teaching her how to live as a human.
Lynessa then left the kitchen to deliver Karen's food personally, although Roy always insisted that she shouldn't because the servants could do it. Well, he just didn't like when the male customers flirted with her. And especially, he didn't really like when someone called him lucky for having a young beautiful wife, they wouldn't believe it if he told them how old his wife actually was, more than a housand years old!!! Anyway, he wouldn't stop her, but his fist was always ready to punch any pervert who harrassed his wife.
The ice dragon carried a tray with Karen's order on it. The assassin wanted warm meals (everyone always ordered that) so she brought her a plate with a warm chicken soup, a butter bread, and a big glass of beer. She noticed that Karen wasn't an Ilian as she approached. Foreigners usually didn't adapt well with the cold temperature and how Karen behaving showed that much. Smiling, she carefully served her and placed the meal on the table. "Welcome to our inn, friend. I see you are not from around here. What brings you to this cold place?" she asked.

Karen rubbed her hands together to regain some warmth, the cold still running through her. But the warmth of the inn was certainly starting to warm the Acolyte up. She removed her cloak, resting it on the back of her chair and muttering a soft thanks to management for keeping such a fine establishment.
"Welcome to our inn, friend. I see you are not from around here. What brings you to this cold place?"
"Oh! Thank you!" She smiled and thanked the beautiful waitress as she placed the food down upon her table. "Ah, yes. I admit, I'm from Etruria really. Simply an Acolyte on her pilgrimage to spread the word and warmth of St. Elimine's light." Karen smiled wider, as if enjoying simply explaining what it was she did. "Ah, but I don't mean to sound preachy right now. Currently, I'm just happy to have a warm meal before I visit my friend in Trent. I think that's another 3 days away right now, isn't it? I hope a blizzard doesn't come in." She frowned and shivered a bit.

"Oh really? Sounds like a tough job. I've heard that some people are sceptical about Etrurian acolytes. I mean nothing bad, that's just what I gathered from talking with travellers." The dragon didn't really like Etrurian acolyte either. They tended to be too radical, pushy, or ridiculing toward the non-believers. A dragon like her would never see St. Elimine as her god, although she did respect the holy woman and her teaching about life, peace, and love. Her dislike, however, wouldn't mean she had to dislike Karen as a person.
"Trent, huh? It's only need a few hours...." Lynessa unconsciously stated that the trip, which actually would take days to accomplish, could be done in shorter time. Well, she could do that because she had wings. "....I mean, if you could find a pegasus, of course. It is faster and safer. Walking in Ilia mountains is not easy. The terrain is one of the hardest and sometimes we have avalanche, you won't want to walk carelessly so it will usually take more time," she explained in hurry. The dragon carried the empty tray in one hand and started to clean the empty table next to Karen, taking empty plates and glasses then putting them on the tray. She continued her conversation with Karen, though.
"I have been in Etruria. It's a nice place, really. I have friends who live there and I often visit them. Sometimes I accompany them when they go to church. I must say that the buildings there have grand and artistic design."

Karen sighed, it was a sad truth of things. Lately most Acolytes were always of the pushy type. Yes, it was important to spread the faith, but one must also practice the tenets! Patience! Virtue! And so on! It was a rather disheartening thing at times, but perhaps simply the ability to convert the nonbelievers itself was the best thing, regardless of how it was done. Still, Karen would rather stick to her own style of spreading the goodwill, even if some other Acolytes might think it too soft.
"Yes, I suppose some who follow the faith have gotten rather forceful of late."
Karen took a sip of the soup, humming in delight. "This soup is delicious!" She listened intently as Lynessa spoke. There was a bit of a sudden rush tone, but perhaps it was just because of how busy the inn was. After all, she definitely wasn't the only patron and there were still a couple more at least filing in to book rooms and order a hearty meal. "Ah, if only I'd be so likely to find a Pegasus rider willing to ferry close by. Is there one in town perhaps?" The Acolyte hoped she wasn't just getting her hopes up when it came to asking the question. She didn't exactly require the reminder about avalanches in Ilia, but that was always the first warning every Ilian gave when it came to travel in their nation.
Next, the Acolyte took a hearty swig of her beer, sighing contentedly as the strong drink went down. Her voice then began to fill with delight once more as the beautiful barmaid talked about her own visits to Etruria. "The architecture is simply delightful! Oh, the Tower of The Saint in Aquelia is simply beautiful to behold! I could go on about all the artisans' work for years!" Karen giggled a bit, delighted to have a pleasant conversation after traveling alone for quite a while.

A sleepy pegasus knight came down the stairs with a long yawn, stretching as she deftly took the stairs down. Her hair was closer to a giant puff of brown rather than the coifed and beautifully kept ponytail that it usually was. It was too early to worry about her hair, also she didn't really care about it anymore. What point was there? She got discharged, and now she had no meaning in her already weakly defined life. So she hasn't exactly felt 'up to' keeping herself prim and proper. She's been staying at this inn for almost a week now, not sure where to go or what to do. Still the innkeeper was nice enough, and his wife was pleasant and really young. Like really young, it was kind of adorable actually.
"Good morning..." She said with no aplomb or happiness or emotion at all really, taking a seat at a table. "The usual for me, thanks." She said tiredly, yawning again and still dressed in her night gown. "Awfully warm today." She said casually, looking around the tavern or inn or whatever it was with sleepy eyes. She noticed some people, including a few new ones. Normally she would be so excited and go up to them but... eh... What point was there? So instead she would eat her usual breakfast, eggs bacon and some carrots for Medusa, go brush her horse and take care of it, and then spend the rest of the day wallowing in self-pity. It was boring really.
"Hey Lynessa." She waved at the innkeeper's wife with as little effort as possible, before dropping her head onto the hardwood table and groaning.

"Thanks. I am glad you like it." Lynessa replied, feeling rather embarrassed when Karen praised. She was also glad that Karen didn't feel insulted by her comment about the acolytes. Making a customer angry would bring some lecture from an angry husband, she wanted to avoid that as much as possible. "Ah yes! The Tower of Saint! I were there when they were holding a ceremony about....I don't really remember what it was...something about Elimine's birthday, I guess. Oooh! Now I am itching to visit it again." This was a pleasant talk, she always liked to have a conversation about beautiful things, especially something related to arts.
"Honey! Your favorite guest is sleep-walking again," Roy called from behind the bar, lauhing at the sight of the sleepy peggy-rider. He then instructed a servant to bring something for Elisabeth while Lynessa looked at her "favorite guest" and sighed. She had just wanted to mention the peggy-rider when Karen asked for one who wouldn't mind to offer a free ride. Well, she wasn't sure if Elisabeth would help, the brown-haired woman seemed to be lacking life energy. She had been looking like tired, bored, or stressed since she came to this inn.
"Actually....I know someone who can help..." The ice dragon smiled as she gestured at Eliasbeth, who sat not too far from them. She somehow looked bothered and sulked when she noticed how messy those brown hairs were. The nightgown Elisabeth was wearing also made her worried that it would attract unwanted attention. "Hey, I will tidy up your hair after this. You should take care of yourself more, please realize you have good look," she said, chuckling. Solving the hairs problem would take some time and she wouldn't want Karen to wait so the dragon would do her job here.
"By the way, this is Elisabeth, a pegasus rider. She can help you with you little problem, if she is willing to, of course." When she was trying introduced them to each other the dragon realized that she hadn't introduced herself. "My bad....where is my manner? I should have done it earlier. My name is Lynessa, that man behind the bar is my husband, Roy," she said as she stretched her hand.

It was taking a lot more than her reserve strength to trudge through the blustery breeze. Jule could hardly remember why she had came here in the first place. Something about a Green Wrap? No...the Green Wraith. This chill was really starting to freeze her brain from the inside-out. The little thief huddled closer into her cloak as she bumped past a sprawled vagrant who didn't bat an eye. Sleeping, definitely.
She reviewed the wanted poster locations she had read. "Illia, Lycia, Illia, Lycia..." Jule repeated over and over to herself. She'd gotten lost made a pitstop here, to look for that mysterious girl. She likely wouldn't be dressed in green, more likely she'd recognize that girl if she got into a fight. The way her knife slipped out, it would've been a clean kill had someone not alerted that Pegasus Knight. Had someone alerted her? The thought of getting out of the cold and inside an inn with a blazing fireplace fought its way to the forefront of her mind and suplexed the previous thought. Jule hurried her pace, nearly running even though she could hardly feel her legs at the moment. Just a little more...Up the pavement, up the pavement, up the steps---down the steps. She slipped backwards, banging her head on the cobblestone pavement. The world went black and white as spots danced before her shut eyes. She couldn't feel any blood, she couldn't feel much of anything really, except the tell-tale throb of a goose egg forming on her head. The blue-haired girl half-felt her way back up the wooden stairs, and picked herself all the way up. She would not crawl in. She would walk in with as much dignity as she could muster up from inside. Jule opened the door, managed to waltz her way to the front of the bar, and collapse on a stool shivering. If she was been thinking straight, she would've noticed that she was indeed sitting in a stool and not a barrel. Talk about fancy for an inn.

"Ah yes! The Tower of Saint! I were there when they were holding a ceremony about....I don't really remember what it was...something about Elimine's birthday, I guess. Oooh! Now I am itching to visit it again."
"Ah, that's always a fun festival to go to! New attractions and delicacies every year! The artisans really go all out then too. Why, last year..." Karen proceeded to go on a bit about the works of various Etrurian artists, particularly one by the name of Vincette Von Gagh and a crazy store of how he sent his ear to an ex-lover in the throes of passion. She did pause briefly though as a young girl stumbled in from the cold, looking rather worn out.
"Honey! Your favorite guest is sleep-walking again," The innkeeper called out and Karen looked over, idly curious of the commotion. A brunette woman walked in, still looking half-asleep and like she had indeed just crawled out of bed. Perhaps the woman was like Karen and just didn't care about looks? Well, back to worrying about how to make her trip.
"Actually....I know someone who can help..."
"Oh? Please do tell." Karen looked at Lynessa excitedly, watching her move over towards the brunette with the wild hair.
"By the way, this is Elisabeth, a pegasus rider. She can help you with you little problem, if she is willing to, of course."
Karen nodded and started to speak again when Lynessa suddenly continued. "My bad....where is my manner? I should have done it earlier. My name is Lynessa, that man behind the bar is my husband, Roy." Karen accepted the handshake, returning it with perhaps a firmer grip than one might expect of an Acolyte. "My name is Karen, a pleasure to meet you all." She smiled again.

"What's the point of making my hair nice? I'm not going anywhere. What's the point of aaaannnyyythiiiing." She said that last part with the most exaggerated groan ever without even bothering to pick her head up from the table. She wasn't paying that much attention to what was being said, but she decided to turn her face to look at the two. Her face still on the table, so it was like the whole world was standing on the walls or something. It was trippy. "You want me to help you?" She asked very absentmindedly, as if she didn't even think of the words coming out of her mouth. Then, suddenly, as if the words finally reached that tired mind of hers, she snapped up. Her back straightened and she shot up like a bolt. "Wait you want me to help you?!" Quickly she brought her hands ups to her hair and began to rake through the bushy brown forest as if she was trying to tame it. Of course it was about as effective as trying to cut down a forest with a pair of scissors but it was the thought that counted.
"Oh shoot, lemme change..." She stood up and ran right back up stairs. Finally she had something to do! Being without a purpose was really boring.

Having people collapsed in her inn wasn't something new. In fact, some guests usually collapsed just a few metres from the door. The reason was mostly same, feeling exhausted and cold. So when Jule came in and made herself look tired and miserable Lynessa had already given a sign to the servants to help the thief or something. People who did that in her inn usually got a free soup and some hot milk, but of course she wouldn't give it to the pretender who tried faking it to get free food. The servants had gotten used to this as well, the reacted quick enough. Jule would find herself being helped to sit properly by a young waitress, she would also receive a layer of thick cloth to be used as temporary blanket. Her food would come after a few seconds, she might need it.
"You have a nice name, Karen," she praised. The ice dragon stared at the sleepy pegasus rider with some smile. She had gotten used to Lisa so even if the brown-haired woman moving and talking lazily didn't really annoy her. In fact, it was quite cute. Lynessa had figured that what Lisa wanted was something she could do, anything. Well, it was just her hunch but judging from Lisa's reaction to the word "help" maybe she was right, after all. "Don't forget to do something about that thing...No one would need help from someone with a brown forest in her head." The ice dragon teased Lisa, who had started to run upstairs to make herself nice, beautiful, and sexy. She actually wanted to help taming that brown forest but she couldn't just leave Karen here, especially because their talk about Vicette Von Gagh had been very entertaining.
"She is always like that but don't worry. She is a pegasus rider, or at least know how to ride the flying horse. I've never seen her fly but...I guess she is good, probably." Well, she wasn't sure if she should say too much now. After all, Lisa might have lost her touch after a few days doing nothing and just following her boring routine. Who knows.
"Tell me about Von Gagh again..." she said, smiling.

"You have a nice name, Karen."
"Oh, thank you!" Karen wasn't unused to compliments from someone that thought her pretty before, but it was probably the first time that someone had complimented her on her name of all things. It was actually kind of refreshing, the Acolyte noted.
"You want me to help you?"
She looked to the brunette Pegasus Knight as she spoke up, nodding her assent. "Yes, I'm trying to get to Trent you see and-"
"Wait you want me to help you?!"
D-Did this Pegasus Knight know somethi- And then she started fussing all out about getting changed and messing with her hair. After a moment she then immediately ran off upstairs with the speed of a Pegasus. Karen scratched her head for a moment. Well, talk about excitability...
"Tell me about Von Gagh again..." Lynessa spoke up again, smiling.
Karen looked back to the pinkette again, smiling as well. "Oh, of course. The man's got a million stories to him." The Acolyte went on to tell more stories of the man, as well as talking about the amazing works that he'd produced. Painted in such a style that the emotions of the painting could be felt as if one had made the paintings on their own. "I believe there's supposed to be an exhibition of his work next month. You really must come!"

Roy watched her wife chatting with a random customer and ditching from her work, again, it was the fourth one today. Well, it couldn't be helped. His wife was always like talking with travelers, and maybe her kindness and willingness to chat with them had boosted the inn's popularity a little. Shouldn't stop her, he thought.
"Really I will totally come. Maybe I will close the inn and bring Roy and my children too. I think they need some vacation after working hard for months. Well, but that depends on our income this month...." Lynessa was excited to visit the exhibition but she had to hold herself. The business was doing good and they didn't have many expenditures this month but they had a plan to expand their business so it might be wise to save some money for that. Although, it was clear that her interest was great. "I guess I will see you there? We can take a stroll together. I mean....I would like to talk about arts with you when we are strolling. Those boys usually don't listen and just nod if I talk about it with them..." she said, shrugging.
The dragon then looked like she was thinking something. She crossed her arms and sometimes rubbing her chin. "Hmm....Trent, huh? Would you mind if I come along? I remember I will have to go there soon. It will be more fun if I have some friends in the trip. Well, I can understand if you won't take me with you, though." Lynessa asked her politely. She had made it clear that she wouldn't be hurt by some refusal.

The girl wolfed down the food she was given, right after she had feeling come back into her hands. She muttered something that resembled a "thank you" in nature, but was lost between bites and breaths. The color slowly leaked back into her vision, and the spots had already faded. The throb was still there, and it would sting for a day or two at the least. The inhabitants barely batted an eye at her, which was good and bad simultaneously. She wouldn't be noticed very easily, which was good, however it would be hard to garner sympathy for her cause. She was just as likely the wraith as that priest was off to the side. The woman did have a powerful air about her, as well as the innkeeper with the pink hair. You could see the muscle beneath their cloaks. She wasn't very comfortable talking to street urchins just yet, but most priests of Elimine weren't too unfriendly. A couple didn't take very well to people like Jule, but the woman with the feather in her hair must not have cared since the table next to her consisted of three seedy men playing some form of a card game. She'd never heard of a card game that used marbles, anyway.
"E-Excuse me, miss.." she limped over to the acolyte and tugged on the woman's garment, both cloaks still wrapped around her tightly. Jule cleared her throat and began to speak. she quickly thought of an alibi other than looking for a master pickpocket. "My b--rother, he's been abducted by a gang he was with. I told him not to go, but he wouldn't listen! I-I don't know what I'll do without him!" The thief made sure her voice quivered, and that was no challenge considering just how cold she still was. "You said you were going somewhere, right? Please take me with you! I can hunt, and he taught me how to fight. I'd do anything, and no one in town will give the time of day so far! Please!" Maybe she should've been an actor instead of a burglar. Having a "bodyguard" would make traveling the harsh lands of the cold open infinitely easier.

Lisa final made it to her room, and she only tripped three times. So with no cuts and a few bruises, she fumbled with her key in the lock for a few minutes before making her way inside. All the while trying to tame that monster of a bush atop her head called hair with all the savagery of a box of starving weasels. It was a painful process, literally. She's probably pulled out more hair then she had straightened, but she managed to procure a brush from seemingly thin air and it became much easier going. So she brushed her hair with one hand, and the other was digging through her clothing trying to find something to wear. She hadn't done her laundry in a while, so it was all smelly, including her now defunct Pegasus knight uniform. She wasn't sure why she even kept the darn thing? It was pointless now. If she ever met Valin again she was just gonna bop him one good. After being relieved he was still alive first, naturally, but still BOP.
She looked in the mirror sitting stop the vanity in the room and saw the slob that layed with in. She looked awful! How could Lynessa let her go out like this? Some replacement mother figure she was (just kidding Lyn, Elisa still loved ya). With much strife, and much deliberations, she managed to tame that rat's nest that jutted from the back of her head and strapped it down with one of her hairties, bringing it back into the usual ponytail she knew and loved. Now she could focus all her limitless power on finding a fancy outfit that was all gross.
In the corner of the room, atop a stand she acquired through means she could not exactly remember, sat her armor. It was very well taken care of, and looked like it had been recently polished or something. It was so shiny she could see her reflection in it. Maybe. Was her armor painted? She couldn't remember, but it didn't matter, the point was it was really nice looking and had like some sort of silvery sheen or something. She had been broken hearted and everything but she still took care of that armor. It was super expensive, it'd be irresponsible not to. Just because she wasn't a knight, that didn't mean it wasn't useful. Just like Medusa. Oh man Medusa! She needed to feed her some Carrots later, she's probably all like "Where's my breakfast Elisa, what the hell?" and stuff. Sorry bud.
She finally found something she didn't feel bad about wearing, the fact it looked like her uniform was simply a stroke of dumb luck. Or the fact that everything she own was basically just another set of her uniform. She missed wearing fancy clothes so much. She didn't put her armor on, because come on, she didn't have all day. So she hustled down those stairs, looking not 'beautiful' or 'radiant' but at least 'presentable' at the least. "Okay I'm back, please explain what you need again in complete sentences." She had a sly grin as she sidled back into her spot where her breakfast... wasn't waiting. Hey! She crossed her arms with a small huff, but didn't say anything. They probably gave it to that collapsing girl. Who was no longer collapsed and looked like she was expecting an answer or something.
"Hi there." Elisa casually waved with a wide smile. Her fury vanishing as quickly as it had arrived.
