Back then in Bern where the grand tournament had been held, Mana had met a Lycian knight, Albert Glorius. They had a nice match and the they had respect for each other after the match. In one of the days when they were trapped in the city because the soldiers blocked the gate for some reason, the knight had come to her with an invitation to come to his guild in Lycia. Silver Cross was the name of this guild, a group of people which was based in a city near Laus. The guild had only one goal for now, which was to free Lycia from the dead walkers and the looters that had terrorized the land since the destruction of Ostia. Mercenaries, priests, knights, brigands, thieves, and mages, who were mostly the native of Laus and Ostia, were the core member that formed the guild based on the same goal and ideal. They also had some non-Lycian members that they invited to help their cause. Mana had gotten the invitation from Albert, one of the guild top brass, and she had promised to help someday.
The day when she fulfilled the promise had finally come, Mana had arrived in the contaminated land. The city where the guild located was relatively safe from any dangers, the presence of the guild and its members increased the security inside and around the city. There was some minor crimes and violences but nothing big enough to cause chaos. The girl could see that the citizens felt secure under the protection of the guild and the local militia.
"I can't believe my eyes! I thought you would never come! Great! I guess Sacaens truly keep their promise, no doubt about it now!" A friendly voice greeted her when she was strolling around the city to find the guild headquarter. Mana saw Albert coming toward her with the same stupid smile he had always showed in Bern. It was a pure coinsidence that Albert found her getting lost in the street. The knight then casually wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close as he began to guide her. His action annoyed her a great deal, this much of physical contact just wasn't her thing but after a countless attempt he had had before, most ended with bruises in his face, the girl had given up. This womanizer knight just wouldn't stop flirting with her, like he would never stop flirting with every woman he met.
"You are lucky. We are going to march to a battle in a few hours. Nothing dangerous, we just got a report that a few groups of the dead were approaching the city from north. Don't be surprised...It's very normal around here," he said. Mana frowned. She just arrived and he already wanted her to take part in a skirmish. Not a very nice welcome party but maybe she could use some excercise after that boring trip. "I won't call myself lucky in this one. You do realize I am still a little tired, right? Can't I be left out in this one?" She responded with some weak protest and another attempt to remove his hand from her waist, which was always failed. The knight seemed to consider for a moment before he shook his head.
"Well...I can't really force if you don't want to help but.... we need every fighters we can get right now. Most veteran members was dispatched to "clean" the southern Laus just two days ago. They won't come back in time so we only have a few experienced members and many recruits to deal with this problem. Of course we have other option like not going at all. The undeads usually walk randomly and in very very slow pace so we can just let wander around while praying they won't reach the city until we get our reinforcement but...." Albert explained to Mana who listened silently and just nodded.
"We can't take the risk...,That's what you want to say, am I right?" she said. Albert smiled and nodded. He felt glad the girl was more understanding than she looked. "Well then...I guess have no choice. I need some water and food before going though. So where we are heading now?" Mana understood why he was in hurry. They could wait and fight the undeads inside the city but that would put the civilians in great danger. No way she would let that happen.
"Right there." Albert raised his arm and pointed at a big building at the end of the street. The building was the Silver Cross headquarter, it had three floors and wooden fence. The garden wasn't big but it was quite nice with some decorative plants and a small pond in the corner. "We use the first floor as a tavern and meeting place where most members are gathering right now. There are some volunteers and mercenaries that will come with us. They are like you, people who won't join as official member but are willing to help. Some of them asked to be paid, though."

Well, he wasn't exactly expecting to be within this neck of the woods.
The wandering Sacaean decided that he needed to take a short leave from his friends to go off on a personal and small journey alone in pursuit of knowledge pertaining ways of improving the Magnus style to further protect his friends and the only family he had left in the world. While his sister would be the perfect individual to seek guidance from, he had no idea where she was now. After they once again were forced to say their farewells, he decided that he needed to stretch further into the world and see if he could work on his fighting style his own way, facing new experiences to either find improvement along with his own progress, or by some other means. With the bounty on his head, the assassins will come even stronger and he couldn't afford to improve his swordsmanship at the pace he was going now. He'd only weigh his friends down and place them in more danger if he couldn't find a quicker solution to filling the gap of what he was missing to improve further. He had the martial arts incorporated within the style down, but...he just couldn't help but feel like he was missing something major in his bladework during training.
That was until he heard about a guild fighting off the undead of Laus that he's heard so much about in the past. He tended to stay away from the territory because of it, but hearing that they accepted outside help, he was interested enough to travel all the way into these parts...not only for facing a new challenge, but he wanted to see these creatures for himself someday...and if this village was in danger, he wanted to help. The swordsman never admitted it, but he wants to help people in general from threats to peace, not only his friends and Lena, who are his top priority. As such, Veigue set out for Laus and luckily didn't run into any of these "undead". Instead, he found this village he was told the headquarters resided in and was currently traveling through the unfamiliar town...well, he'd never ventured into Laus territory before, so everything there's supposed to be unfamiliar to him.
During his small time within the town, he asked around for this Silver Cross's headquarters and was properly directed to the building that he eventually found. It was quite the well-taken care of estate and he had to admire it for the moment he stepped in front of the entrance where the wooden fence stood. Before making any movements towards stepping on the property itself, he just stood still right there as he stared upwards at the large building. He didn't even know where to start with such a big headquarters, so he carefully assessed his situation before possibly entering the place. Well, he had no choice but to eventually enter, since if he just decided to go back, he may actually end up running into those undead...and since they were foes he's never faced before, he'd be in trouble.
Maybe he'd luck out and bump into one of the members of the guild while he was out here. As he held his normal sword in it's sheath in his left hand, he kept Kenji, his family's sword, on the belt of his side so it wouldn't grab anyone's attention. It was a nice little strategy of his to divert thieves' attention from his family's blade, as they'd try to kill him over the Wo Dao. It didn't work all the time though.

Laus! Land of monsters! More like...
LAND OF ADVENTURE.
Sylvia had traveled with an armed convoy all the way to this town, hoping for some excitment. But be it bandit or monster, nothing happened by them on their trip. Then again, wasn't that for the better or something? It was still boring though. She kicked her feet as the wagon road on in, stopping at their destination. With a wave goodbye to the merchant that let her ride with him, Sylvia was off to explore the town.
Overall, it was a really secure sort of place. Lots of guards and militiamen everywhere. Mercenaries of various stripes and pedigrees, it was pretty crazy. As a pair strode past the little girl, she heard them talking about some guys called the "Silver Cross" and how they were gathering up recruits to fight some undead thingers. Taking this clue as her next lead to ADVENTURE, she began asking around, eventually finding someone that pointed her in the right direction.
"Woooow... These Silver Cross guys have a neat place!" Sylvia marveled as she approached their base. She looked down in time to see a black-haired Sacaen dressed in blue entering as well. "Heeeeey!" She cried as she approached, waving. "Are you here to join too?" Her eyes sparkled with excitement and mirth.

Mana saw two interesting people near the entrance the building. She assumed that the one with black hair was a Sacaen swordsman, and probably a pretty good one too. The other was a girl with some cheerful attitude, she was cute and endearing for some reason, the girl then said something about joining. Albert noticed them too and seemed happy to have more people, although he had a worried expression when he was looking at Sylvia. He didn't know them so they might be either new recruits, volunteers, adventures seeking glory, or some mercenaries. The knight didn't comment about them though. "We still have a few hours. Go and talk to them, I see you are pretty interested with them, especially the swordsman. Maybe you should ask them to come inside, they probably want some warm meal or drink before the battle...Don't eat too much, though." The Sacaen girl was left alone by the knight, who went inside the headquarter.
Mana was pretty hesitant to talk to them at first but the girl shoved away the doubt and shyness. It had been some time since she saw another Sacaen outside the plains anyway anyway, it might be interesting to make friends with him. They would probably have to fight side by side soon as well so getting to know him was smart move. Maybe if he was honorable enough she could even trust him to watch her back. "Hey you two! Don't just stand in there. My friend told me that everyone will be gathering inside soon. He also mentioned they have some kind of bar inside. We could get some free meal, probably..." she called them. The Sacaen swordswoman tried to mimic the cheerful girl in her greeting to give the best first impression. Albert had said they should go inside but she wouldn't mind to talk with them here. They weren't in rush, after all, those undeads were very very slow, hopefully.
"I am Mana of Hawkeye tribe. Nice to meet you! I suppose we have the same reason to come here, no? I look forward to fight with you." The girl smiled to them as she crossed her arms. She then switched her glance toward the surrounding, looking at the passing people. It looked like the citizens had quite a great trust to the guild's ability to keep them safe, everyone was working and talking normally when a horde of dead men were approaching. "I kinda like it, you know. Look at those people. It feels like the city isn't in any danger at all."

Oleg strolled down the streets of the city in thought, holding a letter and a map in his hands. He had been hired to help the Silver Cross with some undead problem. Better than causing rebellions to rob towns, he thought. He stroked his chin, looking around for a moment as he then noticed three people in front of the place he was supposed to go to. He closed his map and walked to them, bowing his head down. "Is this the Silver Cross headquarters? Name is Oleg. I was hired to help with dealing the undead problem." He then peered to each of the people there. Youngsters. Bleh, the older they were, the more experienced, and in turn, more trustworthy they were.

Hearing a rather energetic voice call out to him, the swordsman turned his head quickly and down a bit to see the girl who'd just approached him. Could she be a member of the guild? She did look like a mage, so it was possible. "...Uh, yeah. Well, I'm just wanting to lend a hand out here." He responded to her immediately, glancing at the building one more time before turning back to her. "I'm guessing you are too, or are you already--"
Hearing the greeting of the other woman, Veigue tilted his head again towards her. It wasn't everyday that he saw another Sacaean. In fact, he barely met any on his travels outside of Sacae itself, so seeing one here was a bit of a shock. He didn't express his surprise openly though. But it seemed like he really was in the right place, and maybe he could finally get some more direction now. Though he had to admit to himself that he was a bit hesitant on actually going in, as large crowds didn't exactly suit him...though he may have been making a lot of assumptions. Just because the headquarters was huge didn't mean there were a ginormous amount of people in there. Probably. Seriously, he could be so anti-social sometimes...but at least he's working on it and someone has to give him at least an E for effort...whether or not that's a passing grade is a totally different story.
When Mana introduced herself, he couldn't recall knowing of the tribe...just that the name sounded familiar. Feeling it's only appropriate to respond in kind, he looked to the other girl first, then back to Mana and...then man who had just came out of nowhere. After hearing him out, he needed to introduce himself to all of them at the same time. "The name's Veigue. I'm not...exactly apart of any particular tribe," He then looked back to Mana. "...but it's nice to see a fellow sister of the plains out here. It's an honor." Well, he was still a Magnus, but there was no need to expose that information. He remembered being told that his clan wasn't very respected in the past other than their deadly skill with the blade and since they were outcasts, he didn't know if any of the tribes today other than the Kutolah even remembered the Magnus existed. Better safe than sorry, he supposed. He and his sister were the only members of the clan left. "...Actually, yes. I've heard about this guild fighting off the undead creatures over here and I figured if a force was opposing them, I could lend a hand. I've just arrived to see if I could help for a bit or from time to time."
Actually taking the time to take a few glances at the citizens as Mana made her comment, it was quite relaxing considering Laus was infested with these creatures. Hell, he was surprised anyone still even lived out here. "All the more reason to help keep it this peaceful. I've never seen these 'undead' before, but I'm determined to help push them away if I can." While he was going to turn back to Mana to say one final thing, he remember the other man that appeared out of nowhere. Well, they did say they were hiring mercenaries too and this guy seemed like one...which Veigue himself was too, but he didn't undergo much work as of late. He was helping just because he wanted to. Acknowledging the merc, he nodded politely in response to what he said earlier, but choose not to say anything for the moment. He figured Mana knew more about this guild since she was already here.

"Hey you two! Don't just stand in there. My friend told me that everyone will be gathering inside soon. He also mentioned they have some kind of bar inside. We could get some free meal, probably..."
"Oh! Hello!" She waved now at Mana as she approached. As Sylvia looked at her, she felt a bit of a nagging feeling like she'd heard of someone who liked kinda like her on her travels. The young girl shrugged it off a bit though as the other two she was around started speaking.
"I am Mana of Hawkeye tribe. Nice to meet you! I suppose we have the same reason to come here, no? I look forward to fight with you."
"The name's Veigue. I'm not...exactly apart of any particular tribe."
"I'm Sylvia!" She responded eagerly as the other two made introductions. She was meeting all kinds of interesting people today! Tribes and plains though... So wouldn't they be... Sik- No. Sec- No. Sac... Sacaens? Yeah, Sacaens! They were like nomadic warrior people or something! She always wanted to meet a Sacaen!
"I kinda like it, you know. Look at those people. It feels like the city isn't in any danger at all."
"Kinda boring..." Sylvia shrugged. "But boring is a good thing too, sometimes!" She quickly added in the last bit. "It'd be really bad if all the monsters were really close! Then no one would be able to do anything!" Sylvia paused suddenly and then pointed at Mana with exubberance. "WAIT A SECOND! I KNOW YOU! YOU'RE 'THE VALIANT MAIDEN OF THE BLADE'!" She looked absolutely starstruck as she rushed over. "Oooo! Oooo! You fought in the Arena at Bern, right!? Could you tell me about it? Please please please!" She was absolutely giddy to meet a famous warrior like Mana.

"Nice to meet you too, Silvia!" she replied to the mage. It seemed working with these people would be fun. Veigue was somewhat cool and polite, the kind of people Mana would work best with. And Sylvia, something about her made the Sacaen swordswoman wanted to kidnap and put the cute girl in her bag, if it wasn't considered a crime she would have done it. Mana turned when Oleg spoke to the group. From the first glance, she had noticed that he was quite experienced and hardened but for some reason this man was looking down at them, maybe because they were still green compared to him. Although she was kinda annoyed with it, Mana would let it slide. She then smiled at him and said, "Yes, it is. Well, I actually just learned that this building was a headquarter a few minutes ago. You are hired to help? Nice! It seems we will be comrades, uncle." Because Oleg was much older than her, she chose her word carefully and used different, more polite, tone from when she talked with Veigue or Sylvia. "I am Mana of Hawkeye tribe," she added.
"Great! That's the right thing to do! Now I begin to like you, Veigue!" she said after Veigue finished explaining his willingness to fight for the citizens' safety. Even if she hadn't been invited, she would have done the same to the best of her ability. "I never fought any undead too, by the way. Well, I've fought some demon wolves but they are different things. You know...these undeads makes me a little sad. I mean, they should have rested peacefully. Something, or maybe someone, must have forced them them to rise from their graves." Mana spoke her opinion about the dark creatures, her words were sincere. One of the reasons she wanted to join this quest was to help free those poor souls, although she wasn't sure if the souls still stayed in those decomposed bodies.
"Eeeer....I guess I am." Mana blushed as she replied to Syvila. The mage seemed to know her. Valiant Maiden of Blade. She knew some people had started to call her with that name since thebattle in the Bern arena. For better or worse, she had to live with it. Sylvia's reaction made her a little embarrased though, the Sacaen girl still needed more time to get used to the popularity she had earned, after all. Mana just stood her and blinked or nodded when Sylvia bombed her with questions. "Yes, I fought in the arena but...Do I really have to tell everything? I mean...Here? I don't even know how to start. I will tell you later surely." The sword maiden kept looking away and rubbing the back of her neck as she tried to satisfy Sylvia.

"Mrhm, good, good to see that I found the right place. The damned map looked like it was drawn by a infant still suckling from it's wet nurse." He chuckled, stroking his chin as he inspected all the members of the group. The two Saceans seemed fine. A bit young, but eh, they will do fine as comrades. But the youngest girl bombing the sacean one with questions.. Why? She did not seem THAT experienced. Hrm, time will tell. Oleg nodded to himself.

The swordsman nodded his head, impressed with Mana's first display of her character. Granted, he rarely met more of his kind in this fashion and outside of home, so it just felt good to finally be able to relate to someone without having his usual complications. "Bringing the dead to life on it's own is very disturbing. I've never heard of any human or magic capable of such a thing, but it sure is disrespect towards the deceased. I just hope this doesn't spread to other regions and hopefully Laus could be completely liberated someday." ...Yeah, and there was one person in particular he would rather not see come back to life if this spread to Sacae, whether or not said person would be in his right mind upon rising from the grave. But he didn't need to get into THAT mental thinking right now, so he finally cracked a smile. "But yeah, I do look forward fighting alongside you, Mana, and all of you."
When Sylvia bombarded Mana with questions, he couldn't help but chuckle a bit before settling for his usual silence. He honestly didn't hear about Mana before, though the swordsman was never one to keep up with famed figures, big or small. About the only famed person he's heard of was the legendary Kenshin, but from what he recalled, there were many stories about the Sacaean warrior that it was hard to tell if all of those stories he'd heard were true or not. It was always best to just stick to your own past, present, and future as he'd like to say. Of course, that was just Veigue. Everyone had their reasons to value those within the hall of fame and possibly look up to them. The wanderer just felt like he himself had bigger things to focus on than to keep up with the world's greatest, even though he would respect said people if he'd met them. He was just that kind of guy.
Checking himself and his weaponry, Veigue was just about ready for anything as he took another gaze towards the building as everyone conversed with each other. Were they going to face off with these monsters soon? If so, he probably needed to hurry along and make himself more apparent that he's just helping. Though if he was just a volunteer, it probably wasn't required for him to speak with someone else personally since money wasn't involved. However, the more he thought about these creatures, the more he suddenly had a chill up his spine. People who were risen from the dead was NOT a common occurrence and he just had this funny feeling someone was definitely behind it when he heard Laus became completely overrun. Veigue curses himself for not really keeping up with current or even past events...as this was a pretty serious problem he seemed to brush off his shoulders for far too long. Guess in a sense, he could also battle these foes as a way of redemption.
...He just had that feeling that this was going to be a lot more complex than it seemed.

"Yes, I fought in the arena but...Do I really have to tell everything?"
"Um, well..."
"I mean...Here? I don't even know how to start. I will tell you later surely."
Oh. Yeah, that was a good point. "Okay! But it's a promise, alright?" Sylvia still looked excited even as Mana looked embarrassed. It wasn't always that she got to meet one of the celebrated heroes of the recent times. Though after a moment she looked at the headquarters again and then at Mana.
"Um... You know what to do here, right?" She looked kinda nervous now that her starstruck side had faltered.

"Lets just go inside. I am pretty thirsty after that long walk." Mana, who was still flustered by Sylvia's admiration toward her, grabbed the cute girl's hand. She also pulled Veigue's arm and tried to invite those two to walk with her. "Come with us, uncle! I would like to talk with you too." The Sacaen girl smiled as she looked at the seasoned mercenary. She might have just known these people for a few minutes but Mana always made friends easily with anyone, it might be because she was being naive and trusting. "Come on, everyone. I don't want to die from dehydration!" she said cheerfully.
Mana entered the headquarter, expecting the others to follow her. If they came in they would find that the first floor was constructed to be used as a tavern. The hall was pretty big with two sets of stairs in the end of the room leading to the second floor, which was partly visible from the below, and in the middle of those two stairs was a bar where people usually placed their order. The tables and the chairs were lined nicely although some of them were already moved from the original position. People had gathered in groups around the place, some of them were having a serious discussion about the upcoming battle or eating light snacks quietly or just doing something else. After looking around, Mana realized that half of the people here craved the guild insignia on either of their armor, belt, shoulder guard, or other accessory. "Oh, I think they are the guild members. Hmm....Those symbol looks totally cool," she thought as she took another glance at them. The insignia was a silver cross on top of a dark red shield that had a pair of white wings, the cross itself was designed to look like a broadsword.
Mana found an empty table with six seats, she quickly went to get the table for herself and her new friends. Luckily, there was plenty of empty tables so she didn't have to compete with the others. After she took one of the empty seat for herself, the girl waved at Veigue, Sylvia, and Oleg and shouted, "Over here. I've got a nice place for us!" Her voice was pretty loud which invited some stares from some people but they then just shrugged and ignored her afterwards. A waitress who heard her just giggled and then approached to take order.

Oleg followed the others, letting out a grunt as he looked around the base. "Mrhm. I'm not one for religion, but I will give them one thing. They make damn fine armor and buildings." Oleg then noticed Mana had gotten them a table. A great start. Politeness is always great. Oleg sat down as he then noticed the waitress. He slowly looked around waiting for the others. "I'll take wine or beer." He nodded, leaning against the chair, stroking his stubby beard growth.

Not exactly expecting the sudden pull of the arm, Veigue quickly turned his head, though relaxed a bit as it was only Mana. He must have really zoned out to get surprised so easily, considering he keeps his guard up in general. Not like it was harmful, as he really was eager to go inside the place instead of just staring in awe. Walking alongside everyone, the interior was quite impressive. It was pretty spacious and despite all the people, it didn't seem crowded. The swordsman couldn't tell if he was just claustrophobic or had a serious problem being in groups. Other than that, he had to admire the place once more just as he did towards the exterior. Taking the vacant seat at the table straight across from Mana's after she called out to them, he took the moment to relax a bit more as he crossed his arms and examined the place a little further to get adjusted to it.
"I'll just take sweet tea." He spoke up towards the waitress before diving back into his usual silence once more. He wasn't much of a downer of alcoholic beverages, as he's seen how taking only a sip of that stuff could lead to an addiction. While he wasn't exactly easily hooked to stuff, the Sacaean just lacked the interested and couldn't see the appeal in drinking. That was of little importance though. While he was waiting, he noticed some of the guild members's insignia, remarking to himself how nicely designed they were. The members themselves seemed pretty skilled, though only from first looks and impressions alone. Though they had to be if they've been battling these undead creatures. The wanderer didn't know why, but when he thought about "skill", he couldn't help but recall his train of thoughts when he first left his friends for this small, solo journey.
Would fighting unfamiliar foes truly help in his quest in finding out that key factor in what was missing in his swordsmanship? He had to wonder. While fighting to protect the village was the more important priority, he had to ponder on if this would be the first step in learning more or if he ultimately wouldn't gain much of the knowledge he required. Maybe watching some of these people fight could also give himself some sort of idea of what he thought was missing. Observing one's skill was always an interesting approach, even more so if he could possibly confront them on it if he felt like it. Shaking his head for a moment, he brushed those thoughts aside as he waited for everyone to settle in...well, he wasn't much of a talker, so even when they were, he probably wasn't going to say much of anything at all.

Sylvia let Mana take her hand, her excited curiosity starting to overtake her nervousness once more. Much like Mana, she was rather trusting herself, even after her mother and father had taught her to always treat strangers with suspicion, even if they did seem friendly. Well, at least Mana wasn't a child kidnapper or something.
After actually entering the guild hall, Sylvia was struck with wonder once more. The hall was big and well decorated, as well as all the people! She hadn't seen so many different warriors gathered together before! She marveled at their arms and armor, as well as the various magical tomes that were carried by a smaller number of people. So many Mages she could take notes from!
"Over here. I've got a nice place for us!"
She looked over to see Mana now sitting at a table and hurried over herself, hopping into a chair with a smile on her face. Everything was so exciting! A waitress came over and asked their orders after a moment. Sylvia paused in thought before deciding to follow Veigue's lead. "I'll have some tea as well!"
