The trip through the crags was a harsh one, and even more so with the maiden nagging at Orcleous back. Eventually Orcleous got her name. It was Joy, the exact opposite the novice was feeling right now. Now that he was in the open desert again the novice was feeling the heat at full blast. Through some advice from Joy he had removed his cloak and hood and was back into his normal crimson armor.
The novice looked around to see if he could find anything. The next marker on his map was a dragon with X for eyes. He could not remember the old man’s words exactly but he said something about lying with the dead. One could only assume it had to do with old bones. “Whatever”, spoke Orcleous out loud as he placed the map back into his back pocket?
“Hay are you even listening to me”, spoke the maiden as she took a gulp from her canteen.
“Nope”, spoke the novice as he continued to walk.

After several hours of walking Orcleous legs began to hurt and his stomach began to growl. The sun was starting to set soon and the night’s cold embrace was starting to set in. The maiden’s facial expression had gone from annoyed to worry. She knew what the nigh brought and knew what would happen if they simply set a fire.
“We should have turned around”, spoke Joy as she began to look up in the sky. It kind of made him wonder why she even followed him instead of leaving the desert. It could be because she was scared the cannibals would see her leave the rock formation, or because she felt she owed him a debt. Either way she stayed and now she was becoming a thorn in his side, but in truth she had a point. Night was rolling in and Orcleus still had not found the second marker. Something about it was suppose to ward away the minions, but from what he could tell it was nothing, but open desert.
As Orcleous walked over a hill of sand he saw a giant skull sticking out the ground. Bones of a long since dead dragon lay on the desert floor. This is what he meant thought Orcleous as he began to move toward the bones. “Come on Joy we are almost to cur camp spot”, spoke Orcleous as he began to move. The maiden looked at him with a puzzled expression, but followed anyway. As she passed the last hill of sand she saw what he was talking about. Joy filled her face as she rushed to catch up to her comrade.

“Hay pass me some of that jerky”, spoke the maiden. Orcleous handed her some of his supplies and began to think on his situation. With her around his supplies are going to run out faster than he expected. He was going to need to resupply at the watering hole. Hopefuly there would be food nearby. Food, the word stuck out to him. The cannibals flashed into his mind. If they lived utop the rock formation then they were going to need a lot of water for themselves and their mounts, but where were they getting it. Orcleous looked down at his map and realized the solution. The cannibals were using the water hole as a water source. If he and the maiden were to head there they would run straight into them. After killing some of their mates the cannibals would not be too kind at seeing them, not that they were kind before
“When the sun comes up we need to leave”, spoke Orcleous. The young man’s sudden decision caught the maiden off guard.
“What “, she spoke as she drowned some of the jerky with some of Orcleous water.
“We need to leave. The Cannibals are probably at the water hole waiting for us to show. We did kill a couple of there guys. They know this desert better than we do. They would probably assume we are going to the nearest water source to resupply and wait to ambush us there.”
“So you are finnaly going to take my advice”, spoke the maiden.
“Yes finally I am”, spoke Orcleous as he let his muscles rest. He had a long trek ahead of him and he needed some sleep. Thread End
