As Samauli walk through the dunes he feel a wave of unease come over him as he found another shredded remains of some creature. He had been finding similar victims all day. Something was attacking any living thing it could find and then promptly shredding it. What ever it was seemed to circle him. He once more continued across the dunes and his mind started to wonder what he was tracking, or tracking him. The thought gave him chills despite the heat.
A sudden loud snarl snapped him back. He turned to locate the source and he saw what looked like a coyote but larger, much larger. In his shock of the monster he almost did not notice the thing running down upon him. The beast lunged but he managed to deflect the jaws away from him, however this did not stop him from getting slammed into the ground. He quickly rolled the beast off him and stood. The monster stared to circle him and after what seemed like days the beast lunged again, but this time he was ready. He faked moving left and when the beast lunged he pivoted on his right foot and stabbed the creature as it went by. The hit was not nearly as good as it needed to be and the beast glared back with hate.
"Help!" Samauli cried to the wind as the beast once more circled him.

Help!
Marric heard the cry just one dune over. He'd been tracking a large coyote-like beast for over day after a small village's mayor near the edge of the desert contracted him to slay the beast. The tracks were being constantly blown away, and Marric had to jog or walk quickly to keep up when he was tired. Finally, however, is effort paid off, as he climbed to the top of the dune he saw the beast attacking a young boy.
What's a boy doing out here...
Marric hefted his axe high and roar as he charged down the dune.

A roar broke Samauli out of his focus on the thing circling him. Much to his horror he saw a crazed man charging down a dune with an axe towards him.
"Great, bandits. Just great."
Samuali had heard of bandits raiding travelers before but he had never actually seen one. He recalled what the mercenary called a "weapon triangle" and noted that he had a disadvantage with his lance. He knew he had no chance trying to fight the newcomer and the monster at the same time, but neither did the monster. A grin came across his face as an idea crossed his mind. He kicked some sand into the beast's face provoking it to lunge at him semi-blinded. He pivoted on his left foot this time and pushed the monster away with his left hand. This placed the beast between the newcomer and Samuali. In the monster's rage from this new insult it did not notice the axe bearer charging down at them behind it.

Marric was impressed by the boy's footwork as he neared the bottom of the hill. Smart move on his part, putting the beast's back toward marric gave him the perfect oppurtunity to attack. Being his axe was heavy and the beast was, no doubt, faster than he was, the extra advantage was very helpful. When he got close enough to the beast, Marric launched from his elevated position and aimed his axe downward to strike the beast's back. His axe found its mark, lodging between the beast's spine and ribs. It howled in pain as Marric dislodged his axe with a sickening spurt of blood following its removal.
*schlick*
Finish it off kid! Marric yelled as the beast turned to face its new opponent, or depending on its point of view, its lunch.

"Finish it off kid!"
Samuali hear the man command him. Samuali gripped his lance with two hands and leapt into the air, bring the spear down over his head and the strike went strait through the monster's wound and out its stomach. The beast violently shook once as if it had taken a massive shock and then was still. He pulled his lance out of it and the monster fell to the ground, with as much life as the sand it bleed on. Samauli slowly backed off from the stranger that probably saved his life with is lance point at him.
"So then, who are you and what are you doing here?" Samauli asked the stranger.

Ain't the grateful type are y-- Get behind me, Now! Marric spoke with an oddly friendly voice until he broke into the urgent warning. Not wasting any time he lurched forward and grabbed the boy's spear with his left hand and pulled with surprising strength, hopefully forcing the kid behind him. Two more large beasts had appeared and he was leaving little to chance. After pulling the boy to get behind him, he hefted his large bernic axe with both hands, and added a bit of advice to his new comrade.
Run, if i get overwhelmed and fall there is no reason for you to perish here as well. His teeth gritted, and his voice hard as stone, Marric prepared for a difficult fight. He knew the beasts would probably be too much of a match for him. Their speed versus his human weaknesses was a large factor against his survival alone, but the kid seemed too in-experienced to do much in terms of weighing the odds in Marric's favor. Thus, he'd prepare to fight alone, there truly was no reason he could think of to risk the boy's death.

Samuali found himself getting yanked behind the stranger from a surprising force. He took note the power and voice of the man and was impressed. The man then said with a stone voice.
Run, if i get overwhelmed and fall there is no reason for you to perish here as well.
Samuali looked and saw what the man was talking about, two more of the creatures had just came into sight. He bent down and put some sand in his pocket, he might need it latter. He decide that the man could show him something about fighting and was not going to turn down a opportunity, plus he could help fight too.
"Are all fighters this willing to die? I may not be the strongest but I have lived in this dessert for 15 years and I don't plan to see either of us perish here! Just tell me where to be." Samuali stated with a ready and egear voice as he walked next to the stranger, lance at ready.

Hmph... Fine, stay behind me and lance anything i hurt. He'd grunt, if the boy wanted it this way then he wasn't going to stop him. The beasts, having heard the howl of their friend were running toward the pair of sand covered humans with haste. They saw the same thing their late predecessor had, lunch. The scrawnier one, obviously the pack's runt, ran slightly ahead of the other and launched from its hind legs, its vicious maw agape to bite its target, marric.
Marric hefted his axe to meet the beast in the air, hitting the beast, which let out a surprised yelp, with enough force to send it sprawling to the left behind him. Marric trusted the boy to deal with it as he turned again to see the next monstrous coyote midway through the air, barreling straight for him. The fighter was quick enough to raise his axe, but was not able to bat the monster away as he had done with the other. Marric was tackled to the sand with a thunk, as he and the coyote struggled to gain an upper hand, or paw in the latter's case. Marric held the beast's maw and claws at bay with his axe as he pushed with it against the beasts weight. However, he was at the mercy at the beast's hind legs as one clawed through his right thigh.
AGH! He yelled out in pain as his flesh was rend through like paper. The wound wasn't deep, but it stung like any major injury. With his left leg, he knee'd the monster in the side, sending enough force to knock the thing off of him and give him a chance to stand. Taking notice of the kid's status, he'd be blindsided once again by the coyote, but he managed to keep his footing, stumbling forward a few feet, and turned once again to the monster.

Hmph... Fine, stay behind me and lance anything i hurt. The man grunted to Samuali.
"Right!" Samuali responded. As he backed a little behind his partner. He watched as the man knocked the smaller one to his left and Samuali moved on it. He trusted the man to take care of the bigger one. Samuali dashed towards the runt and trusted his lance at its neck hoping to fell it, but missed. Instead the lance went in front of the runt, which gave another surprised yelp, and cut it off from lunging back at the man. Samuali followed his missed lunge by booting the runt's ribs with his boot. He pressed the runt backwords giving his partner more breathing room to fight the other creature.

C'mon you Flea infested puppy! Marric yelled as he took a few limping steps forward to the Coyote. The beast responded in kind, rushing forward to claw the fighter's chest, but it forgot about the man's axe. Though his thigh bled, and stung with every breeze of sand, his arms were still in perfect shape. He swiftly met the beast's claw with his axe, chopping at the beast's muscles on its leg, halting its attack. Marric wasted no time in following through with another cleave of his axe to the beast's exposed ribs. His axe met its mark, but this thing was much tougher than the last one, and the blow warranted little but a scratch.
It growled with anger and nipped Marric's hand as he pulled his axe back. The wound drew blood, but fighters, and especially this one, were tough and it became little more than an after thought. He took another step forward, taking a vertical down-swing at the creature's head, which it promptly dodged. It gave the man a bit of distance before attempting another lunge, but this time its wound on its leg proved a deciding factor. Now greatly slowed, the beast made its weak attempt at its one and only strategy, sealing its fate.
Gaawaah! The fighter screamed with fury as he managed to duck under the beast and flip it over his back, sending it sprawling to the ground. Pivoting on his weak right leg, Marric felt pain shoot through his thigh as he brought his axe down on the head of the struggling beast. It yelped at the axe crushed through its skull, its muscles giving a few spasms before finally lying still, dead. The man then turned to see how his partner fared.

For once, Samuali was doing well. The runt in front of him was hurting, and it showed. He had pushed the runt almost to the next dune and felt like that was enough.
"ok, you little bugger, I'm done playing. Take this!" Samauli shouted as he lunged at the runt. Much to his surprise the runt easily dogged his lunge which now made him off-balance. The beast quickly leaped at his neck. with his lance so overcommitted to the lunge he dropped it and tried to use both of his arms to stop the beast from tearing out his throat.
"Gahh!" He yelled as tooth went into his right arm . The beast latched itself onto his arm and would not let go. He tried vainly to pry its jaws open then he remembered the sand he picked up earlier. Using his free left hand he took the sand and slapped it on the beast's right eye. The beast let go and backed up, blinded in one eye as Samuali slid down the dune after his rolling lance. He had just picked his lance up and looked up to see the beast coming down at him. He stuck the butt of the lance into the ground, spear head up and then ducked his head, unable to look at his impeding doom. After a while he opened his eyes wondering why he was not dead yet. Then he saw the limp lifeless body of the monster hanging from the end of his lance. The lance had gone into the monster's mouth and out the back of the neck. He slowly got up and pulled the lance out of the dead creature. Somewhere in his mind something told him he was bleeding. He started to dress his wound and saw that the other man had already finished the other monster off.

Woo! Some fight, eh kid? Marric laughed, screaming at his partner forty yards away. Marric limped over to him and smiled brightly. He nodded approvingly to the dead beast hanging off the boy's lance as he neared. Marric replaced his axe in its leather harness, swinging it over to hang off his back, and gave the boy a pat on the shoulder.
Now then, i think we'd best leave before any more of these things show up. I ain't in any condition to fight any more of those.

"yeah, yeah" Samuali said as he finished dressing his wound. After that he walked over to a near by cactus and proceed to break as section off. He took the part and used his lance to split it in half. He returned to the man and handed him one half of the cactus section then proceed to put the aloe on his wound.
"So, what is your name and why are you wondering the dessert?" Samuali asked the man as he sat down to continue putting the cactus's aloe on his wound.

Marric, a village a few miles east of here hired me to kill some beast killing its live stock. He'd say simply as he tore off a piece of his tunic to wrap around his thigh. That'll keep the sand out at least. He'd wait for the boy to finish dressing his own wounds before asking a question of his own.
What were you doing out here by yourself? He asked, eyebrow raised at his use of a castus to treat his wounds. He didn't judge, the kid obviously knew more about this place than he did. Finally, marric wrapped the headband he kept in his belt over his hand casually, the wound wasn't severe, nor was it bleeding much, but he didn't want anymore sand to lodge itself within the bite.

What were you doing out here by yourself? The man named Marric asked Samuali.
"Going somewhere, I don't know where but I'm going there. I have always lived in this desert. My name is Samuali by the way." Samuali responded. He then began to eat the inside of the cactus.
"So where are you from? You certainly are not from here." Samuali asked.
