Willow and Oya made their way to the slow-running brook at the edge of Faresh. Willow's father had just given his blessing to their marriage, and Willow was absolutely certain that Oya was 'the one.' However... If their marriage was to survive, there could be no hidden secrets. And Willow had a nagging uncertainty.
What Oya didn't know was that the story behind the brook was a tale of woe and misery. The local legend ran that a couple who sat by the brook on the round, flat stone would have their bonds and trust in each other completely shaken. If a couple could survive it, so could their partnership.
And that is why Willow, with Oya's hand in her own, sat down on the flat stone, giving a small sigh.

"Willow", spoke Oya breaking the silence that stood before. "Do you remember the promise I made to you on the ship. The promise that I would never lie to you. Well", spoke Oya as he paused. "I kept my promise, but I still kept something from you. I noticed the way you reacted when I spoke of Mark's Town with your parents", spoke Oya. The pirate took a deep breath as he finished the rest of his speech. "The answer to your suspicions is yes", spoke Oya. "I am the reason for the plague breaking out in Mark's town", spoke Oya.

"...
So I was right. You... You killed them all, Oya.
You told my parents that you saved me. You... You killed off a whole town, Oya, and almost killed me! Why did you save me, then?"
Willow hung her head, trying and failing to keep herself from crying.
"Oya, you killed a whole town. All of those lives... All of those people had a future. And you ended it. WHY?!"

Oya took a deep breath. "Yes Willow I did kill them", spoke the pirate. His head hung low as he began to think back to the moment. "If you ask the why of it", spoke Oya. "In truth I was more scared if anything. I came to that town on the same empty quest I held as I walked across Bern. I needed to find the past. Under disguise I was able to enter, but once I was inside I was found out by a man trying to mug me. The two of us got into a battle of wits and it ended with a stale mate. Do you remember the demon from that day. That man who called himself a demon was the same man that attacked me. He began to spread rumors about a connecting me to him and as a result I was backed into a corner. People on all sides wanted to kill me. As a last resort I used the vile and spread the disease. I think onto it now and know that it was a foolish and selfish mistake, but back then the only thing I was thinking about was myself and living."
Oya paused for a moment. "As for you Willow. You were different. I don't know, but there was something special about you. I have seen plenty of people die. People I hate and people I loved. Some of the people I watched die I had a attraction too and still I let them perish, but you were different. There was something about you that pulled me out of my selfish attitude and made me help you. In truth I can't explain it", spoke Oya.

"...
Oya... I have to confess...
I've been thinking, and... I see less and less of a line between right and wrong. Everything is turning gray... Even your family, the pirates. When I first met them, I felt like they were scum. Horrid people, with no honor or morals or values. But the more I examine it, they're living their lives with honor.
What is 'right'? What is 'wrong'?
Oya, I think that I'm going crazy. I'm beginning to condone criminals and lives of immoral plunder... What has happened to me?"

"I think what happened to me is happening to you", spoke Oya as he lowered his body and picked up a rock. He pulled back ans tossed it across the water and watched it skit across. "You are starting to see the world from the other side. The same way I began too. When I first saw the dead in Mark's Town it did not bother me. It was just another sacrifice to achieve my goal. However after meeting you and starting to understand the other side of the line I began to feel guilt about my actions. I began to think of the pain of losing your loved ones and the pain I brought upon others. Willow we are becoming one", spoke Oya. "You are becoming like me and I am becoming like you."
Oya stopped for a moment and pulled out a knife. He began to cut his single braid and cut off a great portion of his long hair. "Willow", spoke Oya as he looked at the maiden. "I am not perfect, in fact I am far from it. However I can become better, but I can not do it alone. I will ask you to walk this path with me", spoke Oya as he held out his hand to Willow. "Willow, will you marry me", asked Oya as he stared into the maidens eyes.

Willow stared as Oya began to cut his hair. She listened as she spoke. And she felt a warmth, deep in her heart. Staring into the Pirate's eyes, the Valkyrie took a deep breath.
"Yes. Yes, Oya. I will marry you."
She was ready. She understood. There was no line between right and wrong; there was no person who was totally good or evil. What mattered was not so much the result as the intent.
Oya loved her. She loved Oya. And now... They had each other.

"Very well", spoke Oya as he grabbed Willow's hand. There seemed to be a weight lifted off him. He had finally removed the one thing he was carrying on his chest. Now he could move forward without anything holding him back.
