It had seemed as if she didn't figure anything out, in fact he let the cat out of the bag. He wasn't the "lost son". The way Selene described their father's reaction to his disappearance, he was more of the discarded son. Only spoken about when it was of ill nature, it was evident that their father didn't learn from his mistakes since both of his children abandoned his sorry ass, it was a weird twist of fate that the two now fought. Speaking of twisted events, it was common for siblings to fight among each other so was this a "bonding moment" the two were having? Ha, such a cruel joke the universe was playing if that was true. They were fighting, why did she insist on talking so much? Typical woman, everything has to have a conversation between it. Emil felt as if actions spoke louder than words, his fist and weapons did more talking than his tongue in these situations.
She had blocked his strike, much expected seeing a sword is much faster than an axe. Not only did she have speed with her blade, but there was power behind it as well. She had made it seem as if it took almost no effort to block and deflect his axe, she used her momentum to follow up with by ramming her shoulder into him. Against an armored foe that would only serve to knock him off balance, which it did succeed but not in the manner she had hoped. He wrapped his free hand around her neck as he fell back, letting go of his axe he moved his other hand to grab her to make sure she hit the ground with him. As they landed with a thud, he knew keeping the woman on top of him would be the end of him, using his hands he pushed her upwards as he used his legs to throw her off of him. Attempting to launch her body where she'd land above where his head was laying.

Well, so much for her dear brother falling to pieces at the first hint of bodily danger... or a woman touching him, for that matter. His fluid reaction in terms of grabbing her in the midst of her attempted assault was in equal parts praiseworthily reactive and informative in terms of suggesting that darling Emil was rather intimately familiar with the sort of close, brutal combat that was native to the cramped decks and hallways of ships - more so than she would have expected from someone in the merchant marine. She couldn't help but wonder what he might have seen that would force him to harden so much, to become even a tenth as familiar with the business of brutality as she had become.
But first came the excruciating pain part when they actually hit the deck, hard wood failing to give way for either of them, but unlike Emil she could do little to cushion her own fall. On the bright side, her shoulder didn't instantly explode when it hit the deck; on the downside it still hurt like hell. But she was used to that, and pain was its own sort of fuel, one she had burned many times before to push herself beyond her limits.
While not really able to maneuver herself to turn the tides on her brother, her right arm was still free, albeit without much room to do much with her sword and the pain in her shoulder wasn't helping matters. Without much better of an idea of what to do, Selene took her chance when Emil attempted to hoist her up, ramming the hilt of her sword somewhere into his upper arm or left chest area, it was hard to gauge exactly when she couldn't even see, as he pushed her off of him. It wasn't a boneshattering instant kill or anything but she was pretty sure she made contact since it threw off his throw a bit, sending her flying haphazardly in the general vicinity of the sky, followed shortly by the deck.
Wasn't her first rodeo, though, and Selene was spry enough to partially right herself in midair, calculating an imperfect landing that still sent her skidding and on one knee as she slammed the sword into the deck to grab purchase and halt her fall. Thaaaat was gonna need a little repairing. It was mostly just a scuff though. And a... small... cut. Ripping the sword out of the wood it had slightly penetrated, Selene erupted into movement, pushing herself off the ground in the same forward motion that sent her towards the recovering Emil, her sword trailing her for a diagonal upwards slash as soon as she reached him, whether or not he was ready.

Selene was aggressive, more so than he would like to admit than he was. She had jabbed him with the hilt of her sword as he threw her which hit him in his armpit. She was much faster than he was, he heard her hit the floor by time he started to roll over. She gave him no time to recover from the fall, he was on one knee as she was on her feet charging towards him, his axe was out of his reach behind him. His options were limited, each one had an advantage in it's own way but it had a disadvantage as well. He could roll backwards to retrieve his axe but that would keep him on the defense as well leave him completely open for anything, he could spring forward to tackle her but that would put him at a greater distance from his weapon while she was still armed. For somebody who should be fighting for his life, it looked like he was doing a poor job at it.
The greatest advantage over Selene Emil had was the fact he wore armor while she didn't, he knew she must have hurt herself when she rammed her shoulder into him. It had almost meant he could use it to soften a blow or two on his body to make up for the lack of speed he has over her. She was already upon Emil before he could figure out the best course of action, he twisted his arm so the arm guard would be facing the blade as pushed his arm down towards her sword. It was nowhere as thick as the rest of his armor, as well lacking any padding under it. With a clang he almost completely stopped her sword, he struggled to keep it at bay with blood trickling down her blade. He fully knew the risk of using his weaker armor to block her blade, luckily it was just a flesh wound compared to what would had happened. He would have to throw her off balance with more than just a throw in order to go on the offense, balling up his right fist he pushed forward to stand on both feet as he threw a punch aiming for the bridge of her nose.

Rather than trying to force the blade through and cut his arm off on the spot - she wasn't sure if it would have worked, but with enough force SOMETHING would have given way - Selene pulled back from the swing after drawing blood, not so much looking to cripple Emil as outfight and overpower him... or at least test his mettle. She hadn't really planned this worth a god damn, but he was doing a hell of a lot better of a job holding his own than most people she had fought so far. Not that she was likely to say as much when he was still in the middle of his little tantrum.
She had misjudged him it seemed; when she launched her attack she had expected him to go for his axe like anyone sane, not to be met by the same kind of aggression she showcased. The admiral smiled, a bloodthirsty grin that was bereft of humor or concern, looking for all the world like a shark that had spotted prey. "Not bad." No time for fluid conversation, nor for thinking. Just her, Emil, and nothing else. Dropping her sword to meet her brother on more equal terms, she brought both arms up into a boxing stance, parrying the blow as the blade clattered to the wooden deck behind and to the side of her.
Good weight behind it. Stung a bit to block. She liked that. Didn't need any pansies too scared to throw a half decent punch on her ship. Feinting a left jab, Selene launched a quick right hook towards his ribs, leaning forwards on her left foot but not pivoting. Taking a step forwards to partially close the distance, she transitioned to a stronger uppercut towards his chin.

She dropped her sword? HA! What a fool, it had clearly gave her an upper hand over Emil and she willingly threw it aside as sort of statement. She appeared to want sort of boxing match with him, which she was at a serve disadvantage, he wore armor so that mean the only thing he had to worry about was protecting his face. Selene on the other hand, lacked the same type of equipment as him so she would have to protect herself from body shots as well as blows to the face.
Emil had more than enough confidence in his ability to fight unarmed, but she wanted him to fight to kill her so he was. He took the uppercut to the chin, he staggered back a few steps, in any normal brawl he'd follow up with a headbutt to close the gap but this wasn't any normal fight. He was going to have to control the flow of battle in order to separate her from her sword and retrieve his own axe, clinching both fist as he rose them to his face he stabilized his footing as he took a couple steps backwards. "You hit like a girl." he spewed out as he he spat out blood.

Selene ignored his verbal jab, quite capable of reigning in her emotions completely when the need arose. Not that she usually did, but she had long since learned that actually being as gung-ho and aggressive as she gave off the impression of was... unwise... in a professional capacity. And it helped keep people guessing a bit about what she'd do, which was a nice side effect. She wasn't as concerned about the personal side of things.
...What did she feel about this? Hm. The admiral speared her brother with an appraising glare, not angry so much as critical. He certainly wasn't a complete waste of flesh, at least. Not quite as strong as her, not that many people were, but she didn't hold that against him. Nor did she think less of him for it. Put simply, very few people were; if she belittled anyone who couldn't match her, she'd be pretty goddamn lonely indeed. He had a hell of an attitude problem, that was for sure. She kinda did too, granted, but Selene liked to think she generally controlled it better.
Fighter, brother... she still wasn't sure how she felt about him being her brother, but at least he could fight. She was willing to trust her back to him if she had to. Was that enough? She didn't really know, but she was going to have to make a decision regardless. "...You should work on your temper." Flashing Emil a quick smile, dropped her hands abruptly, turning 180 and walking towards her sword. Cocking her head to the side, she continued over her shoulder. "-But not bad. Not many people can keep up with me as well as you did."
It was somewhat of a gesture of peace, albeit one that could be taken as much as an insult - you aren't even enough of a threat to be cautious around - as a positive gesture of trust, but she was paying close attention to his reaction just in case he did something stupidly aggressive. Wouldn't be the first time someone had tried to blindside her, and she wasn't as trusting as she often let on.

She was really done fighting? What a joke. Selene talked a big game, but sure enough she didn't follow through. It seemed as if she didn't think too far ahead, as she turned to get her sword she kept an eye on him. While it was wise to keep an eye on him with her back turned, she was much faster than he was so she could grab her sword and counter attack before he could effectively do anything. Emil lowered his hands to his chest as he took a few steps backwards towards his axe, he knelt down to pick it up with his left hand. "You're the one to talk about having a 'tude. I touched your shoulder and you brought me here to attack me."
Emil rose to his feet again, keeping his axe ready because he wasn't sure if she was 'testing' him once again. "Now that I had my warm up, when are we going out to the sea to crack some skulls capt?" He truly didn't care what they did once they left port, as long as he could be on the open sea he'd be fine. Emil knew he'd have to be more careful of what he says and watch his back more so now than ever. He slipped up and clue'd her in that he wasn't honest back in her office, either she'll piece things together or have him removed before she does.

She couldn't help but sigh. Good fighter or no, he was one of the most exasperating people she had met in a long time, and coming from her that was saying something. There was a certain degree of smug satisfaction that her little jab had managed to get a rise out of him, but that hadn't exactly done a lot to sort out the situation or magically make them best friends forever, so maybe it had been a mistake. This siblings thing was way harder than she could have imagined, and frankly speaking Selene was getting pretty tired of it. Trying to figure it out, that is. Not of Emil, though he was obnoxious... but she definitely had the feeling he was about as clueless about it as she was.
"By the Saint, Emil, what part of I have no idea what the hell I'm doing do you not get?" Swooping down for her sword, she turned around while still continuing backwards, away from him. "Neither of us do, that much is goddamn obvious. I pegged you for the type who'd rather fight than talk, something we had in common. That was the whole point of this, trying to get a feel for each other." She shook her head, turning again to deposit the sword in the barrel along with its many friends. Why couldn't Emil have been a friendly, quiet monk or something? "...'Sides, if I actually wanted you dead, I'd have gutted you anytime during that fight. You got two days to have second thoughts about this thing, then you're stuck with me whether you like it or not. Guess I can be grateful my brother isn't a total pushover though."

"To get a feel for each other" meant something completely different in his book, normally it was with hands only and far less clothing. But this was his sister, as weird as the thought of calling her that it was far more weird thinking of doing that with somebody he would call his'sister' one day, maybe. Perverted thoughts aside, she should have just started in her office, less time to waste that way. He laughed at her comment of gutting him, she may be been good at fighting but she was underestimating him and overestimating herself. Emil finally lowered his guard, he didn't put the axe on his back, but his body wasn't tense like it was moments before and he lowered his free hand to his side.
"Since we've got time to burn, how about the two of us hit up a pub and I'll buy ya a drink? And who knows, if the pubs here are like the ones I used to go to we may even get to rough some poor saps up a bit." Emil smiled at the thought of getting into a bar brawl along side Selene, those were always the best types of fights, booze and violence a match made in whatever heavens there was. "So, what 'cha say?" Hopefully she wasn't as prissy as she put off.

Did Emil actually have a setting where he wasn't mad about everything, or was it just her wonderful and shining personality that had that effect on him? She thought about it for a bit, but Selene honestly couldn't come up with any solutions that would magically fix everything. They didn't get along well, that much was clear, but after this she felt like... maybe... there was a chance. A small one, one that they were both gonna have to work for, and she didn't know if he actually cared enough to stick with it. But a chance.
Maybe them figuring out how to be family would be its own reward. Maybe they'd never be a normal family, but nothing about her was normal in the first place, so perhaps she shouldn't be aiming for normal? It was frustratingly vague and imprecise and indecipherable. Maybe she did need a drink. Selene shook her head, smiling. "Etruria's finest, drunk off their asses, starting a bar room brawl." She laughed a little. "Well, they can't fire me right before this whole campaign starts, so we might as well live it up a bit. I need to get my affairs in order belowdecks, let's meet in half an hour."
And by 'affairs in order' she really meant 'figure out which of the paperwork she could put off indefinitely.'

So it did seem as if she wasn't too high and mighty to join him for a drink or two, now that was truly a shock to Emil. "Starting a bar brawl? "Sir, if you saw the looks that man were giving us, you would have slapped the taste buds out of his mouth too, the others attacked us first." See? it doesn't sound like we started, just defending ourselves." Emil gave Selene a wink. He didn't like the fact she would rather do some work before the two went out to loosen up a bit. Man, if she got mad at him just touching her shoulder a little bit ago, she's really going to hate what he's about to do.
"Come on, we're wasting valuable 'bonding' time. That junk will be there tomorrow" Emil reached out and grabbed her wrist, attempting to drag her along with him.

She wasn't really sure how to react, and there was a moment of hesitation evident in her lack of movement - not so much tensing up as she had earlier as simply uncertainty. A somewhat rare condition for her, and one Selene quickly decided she did not like, but it was there nonetheless whether or not she wanted to admit it. So she did, and was faced with a decision to make very quickly; go along with Emil's idea, or try to finish what she could of her work?
On the one hand, she didn't particularly like having her decisions questioned, but on the other, she was trying to be vaguely sister-esque, and he certainly didn't seem to mean any harm by it. While she wasn't particularly used to giving a good god damn about what anyone else felt about what she said, Selene recognized that he was trying his best, in his own awkward way, much as she was, so she didn't want to make light of that. Maybe broadening her horizons a little and trying to change herself would be worth it? Or maybe not, she wasn't sure, but it couldn't hurt to try.
"...Fine. It'll be there tomorrow." Half smiling, she allowed herself to be led along for an instant before catching up to him and pulling free. She wasn't gonna be led anywhere, but she would try staying at his side for now and see where the night went. Worst case scenario they both got arrested and she had to fill out even more paperwork.
[End topic]
