Walking on a dirt path, a bag of a few supplies slung over his shoulder, with an optimistic smile on his face was a son of Pendragon. One who had left his cozy hometown behind to venture forth in the world to find what it holds for him. One who would surely prove to those who doubt him that no "curse" was going to hold him back from doing what he wanted. Luke Pendragon was on a quest had it had just begun but he couldn't help but feel a bit excited about everything. It was his first time completely on his own with no thoughts of turning back.
Though he couldn't get to excited as he hadn't accomplished anything really. This was a path that he down before, a path heading toward a town he was surely familiar with. He had been there a few times before with his father or mother whenever they had business in the town whether it had to do with getting some supplies they couldn't get in their small town or to visit friends. The trip there on foot took much longer than Luke would have expected. Normally they would get their relatively quickly on horseback but on foot it took almost an entire day or two.
The farm boy didn't mind, he was used to being out all day and walking. That was something he was going to be definitely doing a lot. This trip would be nothing next to his next one which was heading towards Laus. He was headed toward the large city to see if he would run into his sister, someone he hadn't seen in quite some time. How surprised she would be seeing her younger brother she used to tease being small and weak out on his journey.
He also wouldn't mind testing his blade against her. Luke wanted to see what she learned during her time away and compare it to what he learned with his own teacher. Whether or not he would be able to best her was definitely not something Luke thought he could do but there was point in not trying right?
But that would not happen for a long time and Luke had to focus on the now. Maybe along the way he would have experienced a few things worthy of telling. The boy definitely wanted stories to tell people like his father did. There was also the want to do some good in the world.
Luke soon came to a stop, taking rest near a tree. He could see the town off in the distance, the sounds of the busy town held his attention. The town was a large one, it completely dwarfed the one Luke called home. Sure someone there would have a problem or quest that Luke could help with. The boy stopped his thoughts of adventures and looked up to the sky.
It was early afternoon and the blue sky looked as lovely as it always did. His thoughts drifted to his departure from home, the tears and farewells. He'd miss it there but knew this was what he wanted to do. Soon he'd get back on the road and head toward the town.

Edward strolled down the road at a casual pace, his eyes taking in the sights of the tranquil countryside as he traveled. It had been years since he had last been in Lycia, and it had never been somewhere the viscount had traveled to often, but it still felt familiar to him. Perhaps it was the rolling hills, or the many groves that dotted the otherwise grassy green landscape, but Lycia reminded Edward of Ligure. Unlike the bulk of Etruria that had militarized in the wake of Kraft’s ascension to power, Ligure and other counties in western Etruria had managed to avoid the chaos and the bustle of the Prophet’s regime, and it was in those places that Edward felt the most comfortable. Lycia served as a friendly reminder that his homeland wasn’t the only place in Elibe where peace could be won. Unfortunately, though, Ostia served as a not so friendly reminder that said peace could be just as easily lost, and it stung to know that such a tragedy had been caused by a man who called himself the voice of St. Elimine.
As he continued to reflect his thoughts off of his surroundings, the mage knight noticed a blonde haired youth sitting by a tree alongside the road. The boy did not seem to be injured, nor did he seem lost or abandoned. Another traveler, it seemed. The young man carried a sword at his waist, which implied that he knew how to defend himself, but was encumbered by no extra cargo, which meant he had little to defend other than himself. Not a merchant, probably not a scholar, and definitely not a knight. Probably an adventurer looking to make a name for himself, and probably a little coin while he did so. The allure of fame and money always was too much for the younger men. Still, best make sure he was alright.
“Ho there!” said Edward with a stiff wave as he passed the man by. “Are you alright?”

Just down the road towards from Laus, Freya took a moment for herself. She couldn't get close to Laus' gates if she wanted to, the people not having the best of relationships with Etruria even though she was pretty sure they weren't technically at war. No refuge, especially all she had been through. Would she have to camp out in the forest once more? Even last night she had to frantically pack and gallop away from a pack of Doomwolves. It was so sad that she lost friends or didn't even know where they went when they all got separated. If it weren't for Gertrude she may not even be alive right now. That comforting fact made her cry a little. "Oh Gertrude... You must've been so scared. You're so brave, you know?" The sad feelings didn't last long; she knew that crying wouldn't get her back to Etruria. If anything, she was more worried that she couldn't send letters back home. They must be worried sick!
Wiping her tears and walking along the road South towards Ryerde. She only knew that because of the sign she could barely read. They sure did name places weird here. Hopefully it was towards Etruria. May as well find out! She didn't get far down the road until she crossed two guys with armor on. Well, she wore armor too, but they had much more. Oh well. They were talking to each other, so they must be friends. Freya was happy she had a friend too. Passing, she noticed the old man... well... there was something Etrurian about him. May as well be polite. "Helloooo~" she waved, walking alongside Gertrude. The men were much taller than her and the old man was even taller than the young guy who was about her age. Wait. If he was Etrurian, she may as well ask if he knows where Etruria is. Brilliant! "D-do any of you know where I can find the Etrurian border?" she asked timidly, not wanting to give too much away. They could be just as mean as those people she ran into earlier near Laus.

Luke wasn't in thought for all that long as his focus went on to the voice of a man that was nearby. The young male looked around and quickly spotted an elder fellow that was making his way past Luke. Now Luke was pretty familiar with the faces around these parts even if he didn't exactly know everyone's names. It was a bit puzzling to see someone that he hadn't seen before but it was also a nice welcome. Meeting new people and going to new places was a part of being an adventurer and going on a journey. This man would just be the first in the many people he'd come to meet.
The young blonde male waved back to the man, moving from his resting spot to get a bit closer to the older male. "Hello Sir, I'm quite alright thanks," Luke wondered if he appeared to be in pain or something. He took a quick moment to look himself over, to see if there was anything that might make one worry about him. Everything seemed alright which was a big relief, Luke didn't want to be in a troubling so soon after he just left home. He hadn't even gotten far.
"My name is Luke Pendragon. It's nice to make your acquaintance," Luke said with a smile on his face. It wasn't long until another had arrived, a girl about his age accompanied by a mount. Just from a glance it appeared that she had been through a lot. She was another unfamiliar face which Luke found to be interesting. There was something about the two that seemed a bit strange but Luke couldn't put his finger on it so he figured it wasn't all that important. What was more so was the question that the girl had asked.
Luke had never been to Etruria before so he wasn't exactly familiar with the place or how to get there but he did have faint memories of a map that showed its location. He wouldn't rely on this memory as it was old and hazy, best to get a map. "Sorry, my memory is a bit hazy on the subject so I couldn't tell you but I'm sure you could get a map in town," Luke replied feeling a bit useless at the moment. Why was she heading toward Etruria Luke couldn't help but wonder as he thought about it a bit more.
Was she perhaps in the same boat as himself? An adventurer out on a journey or maybe she had some family or friends residing in Etruria. It wasn't exactly Luke's business to be asking but he couldn't help but wonder. Luke had heard rumors and stories of strange things going on around Etruria. He never thought much of any of it and normally just ignored it as he figured they were just rumors and nothing more. Maybe after his visit to Laus he would head toward Etruria and do some investigating of his own. Curiosity was a strong motivator after all.

Edward nodded as the young man affirmed his good health. Good to know nothing was wrong. “Pleased to make your acquaintance as well,” the Etrurian continued. He was about to give his own name when a second traveler came up to them, another young person roughly the same age as Luke, although this one was a girl. Her eyes were a touch red, as if she had been crying not too long ago, but her demeanor seemed generally cheerful. She came striding up alongside a fine looking horse and her clothes, which Edward immediately identified as Etrurian, looked significantly higher class than the boy’s more peasant look.
The girl waved in greeting to the two men, then asked where she could find the Etrurian border. Edward’s mouth pursed in response to the question. Not too many people traveled in and out of Etruria these days; he himself had been forced to sneak across the border to avoid detection. The knight had imagined that had he been seen leaving, he would have found himself tailed by the Prophet’s men, if just to keep an eye on him while he was about. So what was this girl doing out and about? She was awfully far away from her destination if her destination was indeed Etruria.
“You’re going the wrong direction,” replied Edward. He turned westward and extended a pointed finger down the road. “That road leads to the Ostia-Etruria border, though the route grows more perilous every day. A lot of monsters have been spotted in the area as of late. I’d advise you steer clear.” The mage knight angled his arm north. “Alternatively, you could take the Tuscana mountain pass, but the trip isn’t easy and there’s a lot of heightened brigand activity in the area. Your safest bet would be to head southwest to Nabata and round the south end of the Ostian range before heading north back into Etruria.” He shook his head, realizing the downside of the suggestion. “Of course, that’s quite the long trip, and you do end up spending time traveling through the desert.” It was a shame how dangerous northern Lycia had become.

Well that wasn't very good news. All Freya had to defend herself with was the mace she picked up and then Gertrude being able to run quickly out of danger... there was no way she could go through Ostia again. The mountains sounded even more dangerous. Then again, she was not prepared at all to trek across the Nabatan desert, especially where horses had a hard time moving through the sand. She'd have to worry about water between the both of them.
The mention of Laus made her heart sink one more time. She desperately wanted to be somewhere where she could clean up and be proper again. There was no end to the heartache from being so far from Etruria. Homesickness was easily sinking in. "I've already tried Laus, but they wouldn't let me in even though I'm from the Church. From the things I've heard of it, the city has changed a lot. St. Elimine bless them all."
She listened intently to the old man, doing her best to paint a map in her head as to where she needed to go. There was a lot to think about, but with all the word-play she immediately picked up on his Etrurian accent. "Oh... W-well thanks. If you want to go back to Etruria, stay away from Ostia. There are many dark and evil things there that man should never have to see." she stared in the general direction of the land with a haunted face. It was obvious she was still processing everything that happened during her excursion. She turned away and petted Gertrude once more, thankful for her devotion. She contemplated walking southwards as to not bother the two.

Luke had no idea that things in Lycia were getting like this. It was a bit disheartening to hear all of this and Luke wasn't sure how to take it all in. He hadn't experienced any of the dangers and things other had to face while traveling through Lycia which he figured he should be grateful for but all it did was make him feel a bit bad for the poor souls that had no idea and were in over their heads. He wondered how many people have already suffered from all of this. Didn't take long for Luke to realize that he shouldn't really be thinking about that sort of thing now.
His focus turned to the girl when she mention Laus. At that moment he wished that he hadn't heard what she had to say as it only caused the boy grief. If things had gotten bad in Laus what was the current status of Luke's sister? Luke knew she could handle herself much better than he could handle himself but he was still worried about her. This worry could be blamed on the cures of the Pendragons but also from the fact that it somewhat sounded like a lot of Lycia was going to hell.
If something was wrong there then Luke's quest to get there must be hastened. Why would the people of Laus turn this girl away though? If she was looking for safe haven wouldn't they take her in? Luke had to get to the bottom of this if he wanted to find out more information. "Wait a moment!" He called out to the girl, hoping that she would stop and turn. "Could you tell me why they wouldn't let you in? I'm actually headed toward Laus, I have a sister there whom I want to visit. If there's something happening there I'd like to know," He asked before turning to the older gentleman. "I'm unaware of what's been on out there so I'd like anything you two could tell me," What had happened to Lycia?

Edward sighed, running a hand through his hair. His eyes wandered off to the right as his mind mulled over the girl’s words. So Laus was on martial lockdown as well? And here he had thought his trip to Lycia would be a relatively peaceful one, but no. The dangers that threatened these lands, from both within and without, were causing the Marquesses to become increasingly frightened and insular, fragmenting the Lycian League when they needed to be banding together and supporting each other. In times of prosperity, federations were strong, a force to be reckoned with both militarily and economically, but when times got tough their leaders turned to tribalism, increasingly concerned with only their own well-being while forsaking the good of the many. Isolated from each other, the Lycian territories would be little more than ripe fruit to be plucked by the marauders and invaders that set their sights on the fertile southern lands.
That had always been a weakness of federations, the mage knight reflected, and Lycia was no different.
Edward was about to speak, in regards to the girl’s concerns that he not go to Ostia, but Luke spoke first. He was concerned about Laus, and rightfully so, since it sounded like had a sister there. The boy had the Etrurian’s sympathies. It was hard being away from family, and it was much, much harder knowing that they might be in some sort of danger.
“I’ve personally never been to Laus, though I know of it,” Edward interjected, turning to look at the blonde-haired boy. “If their situation is anything like that of Tuscana’s, they’ve probably closed their gates due to all the monster and bandit activity in the area, so I’d imagine your sister is safe if she’s smart enough to stay within the city walls.” The Etrurian shook his head, a dour look on his face. “You better hope she is, because I doubt she’d be able to get back in the way the Marquesses are acting.”
The mage knight then turned to the girl, his eyes showing traces of concern. “And from what you said about Ostia, I can only imagine that it’s gotten worse since I came through.” She seemed to have realized he was from Etruria, so he had no reason to hide it. Luke didn’t seem like the kind of person to care. “What exactly did you encounter?”

It was about this time she recognized that the two weren't travelling together, which gave her some more relief as she didn't feel as much pressure coming from the both of them at once. She turned about to face the two men and answer their questions.
Looking off to Luke, she sighed. Clear her thoughts a little and actually do her best for him. He must be so worried since his sister is involved. She could only imagine if her parents were in the same situation. Her brother could very well take care of himself. "Well, they didn't want people in unless they had a signed piece of paper from one of the other territories or towns - so this town down the road from here where you're heading may be able to help you. I already got a lot of people telling me to move on at Laus just because they could tell I was Etrurian. I didn't check, but I'm sure the townspeople would be the same..." the young woman averted her eyes and snuggled close to Gertrude once more. "I was a little scared, so I didn't want to go into town by myself."
Hearing the older man's words, Freya's ears perked up but her heart sank. "W-Well, I'm not sure. It was night so I couldn't get a good look at whatever was chasing me. The group I was with-" Freya knew she couldn't let too much on, but since he was Etrurian she didn't want to lie to him. She decided to tell the partial truth. "Ah, I mean the group I was with - the leader got seperated and then our camp was attacked from all sides by the Revenants and Mauthe Doogs. There were those who couldn't run and while a lot of the creatures were fell, there were just too many." she trailed off, her voice softening. "The woman I was with, she sacrificed herself to let me escape..."
She snapped out of it, not only wanting to give too much away to these strangers, but to also break out of the painful memories. "Sorry. I can only say that only a war party can make it through Ostia with any confidence of reaching the other side. Maybe." she said with uncertainty. Her own group was supposed to be one and had very talented and experienced veterans in it who were trained by the Church to deal with the creatures. If only things had ended up differently. "I wouldn't try it, though." she answered with a confident tone. She'd be hard pressed to go past the front lines that any of the countries had set up to contain the undead.

This settled it, Luke was definitely going to be heading for Laus now and faster than he thought he would. The way they had treated Freya and the fact that it seemed his sister was in greater danger than he thought bothered him. No one should be casted away just because of who they were. Luke would march to Laus and give them not only a piece of his mind but also make sure his sister was safe. Hearing of monsters and bandits made Luke come to terms with the fact that he might not make it to Laus but it was worth the try.
The people in the town knew Luke so they would probably be able to help him with getting in Laus. If not then Luke could always ask his sister for help. Luke's sister would raise all sorts of hell if they didn't let Luke in. It was actually kind of scary how she would get at times when it came to Luke. She always looked out for her younger brother but didn't baby him, she looked at him more as an equal than anything else. That was one of the reasons that Luke was so close to her and why he wanted to make sure she was safe personally.
"I can't believe the people at Laus would treat you like that," Luke said with a bit of anger in his voice as he looked to Freya. "Despite where you come from you should be treated equally," He added before looking toward the town. "The people of the town know me and I'm sure they'd be willing to help if I told them the current situation. I have to go see my sister so I'm heading to Laus and no bandit or god forsaken monster will stop me from getting there," He meant every word he said and it could be seen in his eyes that the boy was definitely determined.
"Freya, I will go into town with you if you'd like. We can get a letter and march into Laus and then they'll have to let us in," Luke would then turn to Edward. "What are you plans sir?" There was much that Luke didn't know about this man but he was curious as to where he was headed. If Lycia was as dangerous as it sounded it wouldn't sit well if Luke didn’t know where the man was headed. He could help the man after all.

"You have my deepest condolences, miss," replied Edward, a sad, grave look on his face. As a knight he'd fought on the foremost battle lines of the Western Isles, and had lived through the harrowing experience that was war. He had waged war on numerous battlefields, his friends, allies, subordinates, and superiors cut down in battle against scores of marauding pirates who lived only to make fast coin. He'd stood on the decks of Etrurian galleons and had watched whole fleets go up in flames, no choice but to listen to the screams of the burning men aboard. He'd lost his wife to the pangs childbirth, unable to share in the joy of his youngest daughter with the only woman he had ever loved. Edward was no stranger to death, but unlike some he was not one to let that embitter him. Knowing that pain only made him empathize with the poor girl more, and he couldn't imagine what it was like seeing your comrades slaughtered and torn to shreds by the living dead. She'd carry that with her for the rest of her life. "But...thank you. I'll keep that in mind before I attempt crossing those lands again."
Edward then turned to Luke, who was expressing interest in obtaining a letter of passage to help ease his way into Laus. The older man shook his head.
"Just be careful," he said cautiously. "The Lycian territories aren't closing their doors for nothing. Very real dangers lurk outside the walls." The Etrurian gestured to the admittedly idyllic landscape around them. Sure, it looked nice, but that in no way made it any less likely that they could be attacked by bandits, ner-do-wells, or worse. "If you look too desperate to get your hands on a letter, you'll only end up looking suspicious and probably getting yourself thrown out."
"As for me, I'm heading down to Pharae," Edward said with a nod, answering the question Luke posed to him. "I have business there that needs to be attended to. I was planning on stopping in Laus, but it sounds like it's not worth the trouble."

The strong personality of Luke was absorbed by Freya, who kind of now admired him and looked up to him and his ideals. Was she being charmed? She would also like people to be treated well no matter where they were from. She fidgeted with the harness on her horse, but managed to look into his eyes as he spoke. "Most certainly! I may be able to learn more in Laus and you'd find out more about your sister!" she said confidently, nodding her head with a smile.
Hearing the man speak of his sympathy and then of his warnings, she thanked him. "I didn't recognize that much when I was there, but I see what you mean now that you mention it... Thank you." she spoke, pausing to think of her journey and the details she soaked in of the area outside of the city.
Freya was then a little mournful of the old man planning on traveling into the other direction. He was so nice and helpful. He was also Etrurian, which reminded her of home. Regardless, he was as much a stranger as anyone she thought. She shouldn't have an issue with his departure. He looked as if he had important business to attend to, whoever he was.
"Ah, I wish you safe travels, then. May St. Elimine light your way." she marked the farewell, thankful to his help. With a quick motion, Freya had mounted her horse Gertrude, who trotted forward and then circled back around to the group. Leaning forward on her mare, now much taller than the boy that was above her before. She let out a giggle as the difference in elevation actually helped lift her heart. Once more, she focused on the older gentleman. "Will you be fine from here to Pherae? It's dangerous out there." she asked, showing polite concern for the man.

He waited. He watched. His eyes narrowed into slits as he stared at them. Innocently flitting about themselves. They had no idea what was going to happen, and it almost pained the dragon in his heart to think of what he would do. He bided his time, waiting for when one of them would venture off alone... that's when he would strike. Foolish mindless animals, but yet he couldn't help but feel pity for them. Now's his chance! He dashed and struck out with his bare hands and-
"Grandpa!" Solomon called with a wide grin, running up to the elderly Edward Zobek. Carrying a dead salmon in his hands, the fish was quite large comparatively to how big it should have been, his entire front of his body was wet like he had fallen into the nearby river. Really he caught the fish with his bare hands, but it had struggled so much it's flappy fishy body splashed water all over him. He wanted to show it to Mr. Zobek, to see if he wanted to cook and eat. However he noticed some people around him, so he made sure to call him 'grandpa' as the man had requested. "I caught a fish!" He said, proud of himself. He turned his head to the other two, a happy smile on his face. He didn't know them, but they seemed like nice people, and if Mr. Zobek was talking to them they must be nice people. "Hi." He said with a cheerful tone.
Solomon had been traveling with Mr. Zobek since Tuscana, which was basically five minutes ago to the dragon. It might have been a few days, but he hadn't really noticed the time changing. Sometimes he would wander off a bit, but he would always find his way back, usually it was because things interested him and he got distracted, or he left to go eat something without Mr. Zobek knowing. Since he ate a lot of food for a little human kid, he didn't want the human getting suspicious, so he made sure to eat away from the man. Well usually. He wanted Mr. Zobek to cook this fish. He didn't know how to cook, so he ate raw meat most of the time. He heard humans get sick when they did that, which was silly, but whatever. So he made sure to not eat raw meat in front of humans. It's alright, cooked meat was much tastier anyways.
"You guys want some fish? I can catch another." He held the large salmon out, about three feet long and as a result was kind of silly looking in the short boys arms.

Edward had made a good point, one that Luke hadn't thought of until now. If he looked too desperate most people would either become suspicious or not want to deal with him. Perhaps Luke was being a bit too rash at the moment. He was deathly afraid of losing his sister but that didn't mean he had to go dying either. Maybe he should think this through a bit more before doing something that could end up getting more than just himself hurt. Luke couldn't bare being the reason that someone else got hurt or even worse, killed, because of him.
Was he perhaps dragging Freya in his drive to reach his sister? What if his sister wasn't even still in Laus? If she had went somewhere else the trip would before not. Luke had to make sure that she was there before he would even do anything. Still, knowing Lycia was as dangerous as it was nowadays Luke didn't feel right having Edward or Freya going off on their own. Even if Luke wasn't exactly the strongest warrior in all the lands he could use a blade and would be more than happy to help either of them during their journey.
Before the lad would be able to say anything they would be joined by a young boy…who was carrying quite the catch. This boy was Edward's grandson? So the man was traveling across such dangerous lands with his grandchild? Though seeing how the boy managed to catch such a large fish Luke figured the kid was tougher than he looked. "Howdy, nice catch you got there," Luke began as he moved closer to the boy. "My name's Luke Pendragon, it's nice to meet you. You catch that fish all by yourself? I'm impressed, bigger than what I've caught recently," Luke was genuinely surprised and impressed.

"Oh I will be quite alright," replied Edward to the maiden with a polite nod. He might just look like an old man to her, but the old knight was no random traveler. "These old bones have carried themselves through worse journeys before." A small smile lined the viscount's lips. It was rare to see people so amicable out on the road these days. "But again, I appreciate your concern. The Saint knows such a sentiment is hard to come by in these times."
It was then, as Edward spoke, that little Solomon came running carrying a big, soggy fish in his arms. Good lord, the size of that salmon! And the boy was completely soaked! Had he killed the animal by falling on it? Because it sure looked like he had. This child was always full of surprises, though Edward had learned not to be too surprised. Solomon had survived months out in the Lycian wilderness by himself, which meant he was a better survivalist than most grown men. Still, catching a fish that large was no small feat, and Solomon was, well, quite small.
