Minerva walked through the main street of Veronia, a large city in Ilia near Edessa. Her pace was slow and unhurried, which was surprising, given the fiendish winds and torrential snowfall. It was a bona fide blizzard, and one of massive proportions. While most others would be driven indoors, Minerva seemed to be savoring the snowstorm. Her heavy fur cloak blocked most of the chill, although her blue hair was covered in white snowflakes, and her cloak seemed white with accumulated snow.
Quick glances to the sides showed her that the merchants and vendors had all retreated to their homes to wait out the storm; no wares were on display, and storefronts were dark and dismal, devoid of any life or inhabitants. Drifts of snow were piling up, and few footprints still showed through as the snow piled up. The only light and glow that cut through the murky evening gloom and the thick cloud layer were from taverns, capitalizing on the opportunity to sell hot beverages and rooms to travelers, and the small fireball the young woman carried in her right hand. It was a brilliant blue, and cast a cold but illuminating light like a small torch.
Minerva was humming softly to herself; it was an old tune she'd heard performed by an orchestra in her youth, and was a soft and slow lyrical march. It gave an air of solemnity to her stroll through the icy sleet; it was as if she was marching to her death, but yet the beginning of her life. It was an unanswered question. A haunting melody.
The snow kept falling. Falling, falling, falling. Relentlessly.

Dunamis rushed through town, completely lost in the blistering storm. If he would've known that, after managing his way here, that he would have to deal with this blistering cold he never would've come.
As he blustered about like a child, he could feel the cold binding his skin to his armor. He quickly looked around. From what he could see, most inns had already been filled to the brim and then some. Quite unexpectedly, he saw a faint blue glow just a few paces away from him. Hoping for a fire, he dashed towards the faint light.

Whistling contentedly, the mage was busy watching snowflakes fall when she suddenly saw something rushing toward her. Instinctively adopting an offensive stance, she added more fuel to her fireball, using the blazing bluebell to illuminate the figure of a knight, his face slightly bluish and his hair completely white with snow. Wait, his hair was white. Still, he'd clearly been out in the cold too long. He didn't seem to have ill intentions, as his lance was still on his back, but... Never hurt to be safe.
"Hold, stranger! It's a bit frightening to a lone woman when an armored man comes running out of the blizzard at you. Do you need something, or are you just drawn in by the pretty light and siren song?"
Minerva chuckled quietly as the man approached. Looks like she'd found some unexpected company. But with shiny armor and a youthful face like that, she'd probably run across a wanna-be soldier or a self-proclaimed hero. Well, it would make for interesting conversation over hot drinks.
"You look uncomfortable. Maybe we should head out of the cold?"

Dunamis stumbled to a halt. While this woman's tone was cheerful enough, there was a certain sternness to it that made him know she meant business. He looked around expectantly, hoping for a fire, when he saw the now much larger ball of flame in the woman's hand.
" A mage, huh? I was hoping for a fire. But yes you're right, I am uncomfortable in this blasted relentless storm. And as for getting out of this cold, unless you have a place, we aren't going to have much of a chance at that."
He looked her down again. She seemed rather comfortable in this cold - no not just comfortable, strangely, she seemed to be enjoying it. Regardless, it didn't seem like he had much choice but to follow this strange woman.
"And since it seems that we're stuck in this storm together, we might as well converse. I'm Dunamis, at your service."

" A mage, huh? I was hoping for a fire. But yes you're right, I am uncomfortable in this blasted relentless storm. And as for getting out of this cold, unless you have a place, we aren't going to have much of a chance at that."
Minerva laughed easily, a smile gracing her face. "Oh, I know many places. You just have to know how to get in!" The woman walked up to the knight, her hand running across the armor plate before she began to walk again, the flame in her hand shrinking back to its original size. "There's a tavern not far from here that'll be happy to take our business. C'mon, Dunamis. I'm Minerva. You can be my knight in frozen armor and make sure nothing bad happens to us as we walk through this 'blasted relentless' blizzard. I enjoy it. It's nice to balance fire with ice and heat with cold. But you seem a little too cold. Can you move in there? Let's go!"
Without another word, the young mage set off through the snow and sleet, her hips slightly swaying and her fireball held high like a torch. Hopefully, the knight would follow her... It'd be a shame to freeze to death. He must not be from Ilia. She'd have to get him some warmer clothes.

Dunamis quickly followed Minerva - he wanted to be out of this cold as soon as possible and definitely did not want to be left behind. Shivering with each step, he managed to catch up to her.
"Having a balance between ice and fire is fine and all when it's actually balanced - this storm is anything but balance. How can you enjoy a storm as bad as this?"

"But you see, this one storm balances out months of heat. It's all perspective. And speaking of new perspectives, maybe you'll have a new one once you have a few hot drinks. Here we are."
Minerva shook her hair and opened the door to a nondescript tavern, causing an Ilian to jump out and hold up a blade as he stopped them. "Hold! We aren't allowing -- Oh, milady Minerva. Excuse me." Smiling, the woman nodded graciously and ushered the hypothermic-looking knight into the warm tavern, seating him at the bar before shaking her hair and cloak to dislodge the excess snow.
"One Hot Spring, please." The mage turned to the knight, smiling. "You may want to take off the armor so it can dry and heat up by the fire, Dunamis. What'll you have? Something hot, hopefully. Don't worry about cost. I'll cover the tab."

Daje was travelling to Ilia, after a month or 2 journey. After being warned about the harsh weather arising, he worn a thick cloth under his armor. Yet, it didn't stop him from the annoying droplets of snow that rushed up to his face. It didn't annoy him because of the temperature due to his helmet, but more because he knew that it would look like quite an amazing sight from his height as told. Since, he was riding on a purplish-black Wyvern.
Daje still attempted to gaze the vast view, but can only see a flurry or wind and snow. Yet, upon his view, he noticed a bright flame nearing the ground. He quickly can to the assumption that is was a distress call and commanded his wyvern to swoop down. He landed quite abrasively, possibly stunning those who noticed his appearance. Non-hesistantly he took of his helmet and said, "Hello, my name is Daje. Anyone need assistance?" He then observed took people in armor and a woman in a cloak. He wiped his face, as snow slowly enveloped his face.

Dunamis sat there for a moment, relieved to finally be inside. He quickly removed his ice-stricken armor and, after checking to see where the fire actually was, sat it down by the fire. Drenched by the now melted snow, Dunamis hobbled back towards the bar.
"Well, boy. You heard the lady. Drinks are on her. What'll it be?"
He stared bleakly at the man, his question almost seemed unanswerable to him - he wasn't much of a drinker. He continued to stare, not even uttering a word, as he tried to remember what drinks his father ordered when his father dragged him out to the bar.
"What is it boy, never had a drink before?"
Dunamis is snapped back into focus. The Ilian bartender is clearly fed up with how long it is taking him to order. In an attempt to appease the situation, Dunamis blurts out the first thing that comes to mind.
"I'll have a hot spring."
Drink in hand, Dunamis walks back over to the fire and sits down, feeling the soothing warmth spread through his body once more.

Minerva sipped the strong drink, its steam and warm mug helping to counteract the chill. Maybe she had gotten a little cold, but, whatever. She'd been through worse. Suddenly, there was a gale of wind, and a... Wyvern?! What the bloody Barrigan was a wyvern doing outside her haunt in Veronia, Ilia?
Walking over to the door, the woman opened it, feeling the dichotomy of the toasty bar and freezing street. She caught the last bit of what the man said, and totally misinterpreting it, barked an order into the bar before grabbing the man by the collar, yanking him inside, and slamming the door against the wind. "Well, Daje, I can provide any assistance you need in the way of hot drinks, a fire, conversation... You look pretty cold too. What's the deal? Trying to be a hero? Hypothermia doesn't win any medals, favors, or pretty girls. We're much more for the intelligent folk.
But anyway, I digress. Have a seat over by the ice-block... Er, knight, and I'll grab you a drink."

Daje began to suffer the consequence of his impulsive decision, as he could feel his teeth chatter a bit. He knew this, seconds after taking his helmet off, but it was his own pride that kept him from putting it back on.
Eventually this dumbfounded rider was pulled into the bar by the cloaked person. Once inside, he listened to her scolding about his idiotic actions. He attempted to ignore his own actions from even happening by keeping his optimism up. He replied in a flirtatious tone, "Such scholarly advice from such a generous and virtuous Lady. I thank you."
He went ahead and sat on the seat next to the ice-block as stated and waiting for the drink. He went into thought about leaving his companion outside. Yet, he wasn't too worry as wyverns barely have trouble surviving in harsh conditions just like any other dragon.

Dunamis looked over as the Wyvern rider, the one who just caused a huge commotion by the door, sat down next to him. Dunamis studied the boy. He seemed a tad immature for someone his age and a bit too prideful as well, especially with how easily he rubbed off Minerva's scolding. Regardless, the rider had a certain optimism about him, one that was unseen in most travelers - certainly most of which that he had met.
With all the commotion - and studying of strangers -, Dunamis had almost forgotten that he had a drink in his hand. He took a sip and enjoyed the warmth of the drink. It was a new drink to him and he rather enjoyed it - which frightened him a little; he didn't want to end up a drunkard like his father. Sitting the drink back down, he turned towards the rider, still wondering what actually happened.
"Quite the commotion you caused over there. What exactly did you do?"

"Right..."
Rolling her eyes, Minerva watched the stableboy she had ordered taking the wyvern back to the stables, where he'd be warm and have some food. Some rider, if he didn't even worry about it. Well, wyverns were hardy. Either way, everything had been arranged now, and she needed another drink.
Grabbing the proffered hot spring, and one for the new rider, she moved over to the table next to the fireplace and sat down, draining a generous gulp before speaking to the two men and handing Daje his drink.
"Hope you're thawing out. The drinks will warm you from the inside to the outside; they're great for warming up on a cold day.
So... Why on earth were you both out wandering in an Ilian blizzard?"

As Daje awaited for the quenching drink, he turned to one of the knights that asked him a question about what was going on basically. He rubbed his palm at the back of his head and said, "Can't remember what I did exactly... I was just following this blazing fire on the ground in an attempt to get out of this extremist weather and was consumed by it!" He then turned back to the woman, continuing his story while smiling. "Then I was pulled out of the cold by this gracious Valkyrie."
Daje took the drink from her and sipped a bit of it, while replying to her question right after. "Well, somewhat interesting story. In he midst of following my dreams as a future Hero, I ran across an old man that told me a story about his daughter being kidnapped by Brigands for about a year. He told me they made it all the way to Ilia." After a quick pause, he chuckled. "I... believe it's a bit iffy since I basically travel across the country for this mission... and Brigands are usually mountain people." He took another sip of his warm ale, trying to hide the humility of the possibility of how his journey could've been fabricated and continued, "Ah well, I have to start somewhere."

Post by Rembert on Jul 11, 2014 6:28:18 GMT -6
As the blizzard raged on outside, Rembert huddled under a mass of blankets in the room that he had rented. His magic tome lay open in his lap and his notes were spread around the floor in front of him. He was trying, rather unsuccessfully at that, to decipher some of the more cryptic passages. However, he had been one of the later travelers to arrive at the inn and, despite the proprietors best efforts to warm the inn, he had been stuck with the room furthest from the inn's large hearth. As such, little of the fire's heat actually made it to his room, hence the pile of blankets Rembert had covered himself in. Even this had not been enough though, and the cold was shaking him to the bone. Frustrated, the aging priest rose quickly to his feet, shook off the blankets, and left his room in a hurry, leaving his tome and notes scattered across the floor. He would clean them up later when his teeth weren't chattering.
As he entered into the crowded common room, he made his way to the bar, and motioned to the innkeeper, ordering himself a bowl of hot soup. The innkeeper gave him a suspicious look when Rembert payed him with Etrurian coinage, but took it all the same. Gold was gold after all, and it mattered not what country had minted the coin. His food received, he glanced around the room and spotted an open seat near the fire. The table was occupied by several other people, but as crowded as the common room was, he was sure they wouldn't mind. He shuffled over to the table and, before sitting down, announced his presence. "Pardon the intrusion," he started, politely, "But this seems to be the only seat left near the fire and these old bones could do with some warming. I hope you don't mind if I join you." With that, he pulled out that chair and took a seat, relishing in the warm glow of the hearth. "Ah, but where are my manners? My name is Rembert. I'm a scholar of sorts."
