Duma
Class-Sword Master
Age- 23
Born: Lycia
Appearance:
Duma is a tall well-built man. He’s about 6’ give or take a few inches depending on what he wears. Duma’s got long green hair that reaches down to the small of his back. His bangs are cut short to keep his hair from entering his eyes during combat and they appear to give him a sort of a spiky look. He’s got two fully working green eyes. He prides himself a bit in his hair and likes to comb it out before going to bed and upon waking up. He has obvious X shaped scar on his face that was obtained during his child hood.
The details as to how he got his scar vary. He brags to children and adults that the scar was due to a monster fight, or bandit fight, punched in the face by a god, dragon fight, or some other fight related activity that may or may not have happened. But as with any good lie there is a grain of truth. The scar was obtained when he clashed with a magic weapon in a fight. But as to what weapon it was, who or what cast it, and why remains a mystery. The only people who know the truth is Duma, Duma’s twin sister Mila, and his deceased parents.
Duma also has a little known brand on the back of his neck. His sister has an identical one on the back of her neck. It is unknown if they were born with it, or if they were branded shortly after birth. Duma/Mila believes it to be a birth mark, a blessing of the spirits. His adoptive parents theorized that they were branded by bandits to be sold as slaves but they could not confirm the theory.
It is thanks to the X scar and his tall appearance that he often comes off as looking menacing. This is a useful trait to have when one is traveling on their own. It helps ward off thieves and other people looking to harass him, or the company he may be traveling with. He has perfected the art of appearing cold, threatening, and mean.
Duma’s attire consists of a faded purple robe. Resembling that of the Sacean swordsmen but it’s not quite the same. The robe is long and reaches out towards his ankles. It has long sleeves that reach to his wrist. Underneath that is a black sleeveless shirt and beige colored pants. His boots are light-ish leather color. The robe is tied closed with a faded light blue sash that is tied around his waist. The robe has a white fur trimmed on its edges. During cold weather Duma dons a warm fur vest that he wears underneath his robe like attire, and a thick cloak. He fastens the neck part of robes closed with a golden chain. The rest can be closed with manipulation of the sash or buttons.
He wears dark brown finger less gloves and on top of that a set of gauntlets. The gauntlets are a strange mix of wood, grass, iron, and lacquer. The fingered parts of the gauntlets tend to make him look like he has claws. It is lightweight but provides great protection. He has a small set of shoulder guards which he wears ontop of his robe. These are made of leather, with a thin metal plate bent in. They have been sewn in, due to the amount of times Duma has nearly lost them.
Duma has a simple iron sword which he sharpens regularly. He carries with him a sturdy leather bag which holds food, wool, medicine, oil, whetstone, his journal, a small doll (in the image of his twin sister), and his cloak. Water is stored in a water satchel tied to the bag. His coin purse is tucked safely into his pant pockets or into the pocket sewn into the inside of his robes.
Personality
Those who manage to befriend him learn that this cold appearance of his is just an appearance. Duma himself is actually a nice guy. He’s calm, collected, and focused. He cares for his friends and when on the job makes sure his clients are well. He has a bit of a soft side towards children and dislikes seeing them get hurt. His guilty pleasure is sweets and bacon.
While “on the job” Duma tries to maintain an air of professionalism about him. He avoids reckless behavior and plans for his job. If it’s a guard/escort mission he learns the most that he can from the people around him, studies maps, and packs accordingly to what the work may entail. Many clients are surprised by his attention to detail and thorough research.
Duma enjoys wandering around in towns learning from the local people. He likes to take in the sights and sounds of nature and can often be seen meditating. He likes to train his swordplay in full attire and can be seen either training early in the morning or in the evening.
During combat Duma mostly keeps himself calm and focused. He tries to pick out any potential weak points his opponents may have and exploit it.
Duma has a sadistic side which is seen whenever he does any job that involves bandits. He thoroughly enjoys killing bandits who murder, pillage, and steal. He has raided enough bandit encampments and seen enough horrors to warrant such hate. He is especially merciless to bandits who work for the slave trade.

History
According to his parents, Duma and his sister were born in Lycia. The twins had been found and raised by a mercenary couple. The mercenary group the couple was associated with had answered a call for help from a village that had been seized by bandits. The mercenaries found the bandit encampment and saw that it had been destroyed. They found the twins among the ruins dirty but miraculously unharmed. Unable to find a body that matched the appearance of the two babies the couple took them in as their own. The mother was fond of fables and decided to name the two after twin gods. They were loved and adored dearly by their adoptive parents.
The twins spent a large chunk of their early lives traveling the lands with their parents. They mostly stuck to northern Elibe, usually sticking to area between Sacae and Eturia. The twins learned many things including how to read, write, sew, cook, climb, and swim. They were taught the ways of mercenary life and courtesy. They had a small home in Taras which Duma barely remembers. When he was about seven, he started to swing around one of his mother’s practice blades. His mother who was an accomplished swordswoman herself, saw her son and recognized he had talent. So she began training him in the ways of the blade. Around the same time it was discovered that his sister had talent with magic.
The twins spent a year learning how to fight. And would occasionally do small jobs under their parents supervision. The guild their parents associated them with would also give them little jobs to do in order to further train them. After an incident with a fire tome it was decided that the family should move into Eutria. And enroll Mila in Deftia’s magical academy. They could not afford to send Mila to Deftia’s main academy so they delegated her to study in one of the smaller branch schools in Aquiela. The family settled in Aquiela. The city life and restrictive manner of the prophet’s followers, did not sit well with the family. They instructed their children to keep quiet, avoid trouble, and exercise extreme caution. Duma did not like his time in Eutria at all. Being forced to pay lip service to a prophet he did not believe in. But if it meant his sister could get a good education and better handle with her magic he’d oblige. Duma continued to work and train with his parents. After the incident that gave him his scar, his parents feared for his safety and had him sent back to Taras. The guild master was on good terms with Duma’s parents and trained the boy. Duma kept busy assisting with the guild. He wrote countless letters to his parents and to his sister back in Aquiela. And every few times a year during festival time he would reunite with them. His sister would tell him countless horror stories about her time in the academy. And he would tell her stories of his own. The two siblings promised one another that once they were of age and “graduated” out of their chosen professions. Duma and Mila graduated out of their professions at 16, and the family returned to Taras.
When they were 18 the twins lost their parents. They passed away from infection from battle wounds. Duma was able to reach them before they passed and gave his final good byes. The twins continued mercenary work through the guild for about 2 more years. Until, Mila received a letter from the academy asking her to investigate some ruins in Nabata. Unable to turn them down the twins went ahead into Nabata. Duma decided to use a seal his father had given him to promote himself.
His time in Nabata was short and full of sorrow. He lost Mila to the desert when the ruins they were exploring collapsed. The cave in took the lives of nearly all the mages. Only about 3 of them managed to survive. Unable to cope with the loss of losing his twin he left Nabata behind. Unknown to him Mila had survived the calamity and escaped via an underground passage.
He returned to Taras in grief. Under the guild master’s advice he decided to travel the world. He has spent the last 5 years traveling the lands and honing his skill. Along the way he had made several connections and taking up various jobs.

{SPOILER}The scar was obtained as a child. When Duma was protecting his sister from being kidnapped by a slaver. The weapon was a sword infused with light magic.
