Vanna stood tall and proud before the mass of men and women before her. There were several familiar faces but many were green many unknown people were gathered here. Volunteers? Voluntold? Did not matter why but they were her men and everyone of them would live and die by the sword. That was the way of a suicide squad. To live and fight another day was to bring glory to yourself and to die was to die gloriously in the name of the Prophet and Saint Elimine.
It was an odd place to hold a gathering of soldiers. They were over on rocky hills. Odd until one learned that was where they would train. Wild beasts and treacherous footing were dangerous enough as it is without the knowledge of bandits in the area. The harsh conditions bred the greatest fighters in the prophet's forces. It would be her job to ensure the new recruits learned.
vanna removed her helm revealing that she was in fact a woman and held it by her side. Her father's axe laid by her feet. The axe of the 'Nullifier.' She spoke with her voice clear and sharp, "I welcome you, one and all. I do not know if you came by choice or force but that does not matter any longer. You are here and that means you ARE THE ELITE!!! You are the ones that will never back down. You will return a victor and a hero or you will not return at all. That is who we are as the Terminal 31st. We are the beaten and the bruised. We are the starved and half dead. We are the abused hounds of war let out of their cage when it is time to KILL!!!"
"Look around you to your left and to your right. These men and women are your family now. Your life and their's are intertwined now. Many of you will not make it but many more of you will. You all knew the risk of joining but you came anyway. In the name of our great Prophet. We serve as the extension of his will." Her face seemed to light up every time the Prophet was a topic.
"You are here for training. You have what is on your person now and that is how you will survive the next week. Until then none of you will see garrison or a bed. You will need to work together to find food and shelter. I will announce whenever it is time to train under my command but otherwise you are left to your own devices. In fighting will not be tolerated and I will personally handle you. Death is possible but if you work well it will not be a concern here." She gave the crowd another scan looking all the men and women over with a smirk on her face. It would be interesting to see who would defect and who would rise up as leaders among them. Their lives are on the line after all.
"May the Saintess Elimine guide your feet and hold you in her sanctuary. You are free to begin setting camp as of now. I will signal when it is time to carry on with your first training exercise." With the final blessing Vanna placed the helm upon her head once more and left the masses to their own business traveling over the hilltop and out of their view.

Garnet watched as the woman, clearly enamoured with her purpose and allegiance addressed the crowd. She was a Propheteer, through and through.... He laughed at his own joke, though it was a sickened laugh carried on a disappointed face. What was he even doing here? Had he really deluded himself into thinking that joining up with this group could do some good? He was no loyal subject of the Prophet. He hated the man with a passion that burned so greatly that it had burnt him out. His home was in ruins, and he blamed the Prophet and his people for that. He also blamed the people of his town. If they'd have just played along during the rise of the Prophet, they'd still be alive now.... Instead, they'd fought back. Someone had tried to come and push their blubbery weight around from the capital, and Captain Bryant had thrown the arrogant brown-noser in the mud instead of bowing and scraping. That's what had led his home to their fate, and he had done nothing to prevent it. It was all covered up by now though. No one wanted to remember the blood bath that had come from that time.
So what was he doing here? He'd fought in Etruria. He'd fought in Lycia, Sacae, and Ilia, and wherever he went, the fighting was the same. It always ended with blood, gore, and violence. Now he'd come back here after pledging to bring down the Prophet's rule. He hadn't really tried though. That was a quick failure. Was he here because he honestly thought that serving this would help his country? Not as long as they were led by a zealot who only cared for their glorious leader. Was he infiltrating? Hah... He was done with pretending these days. Unless he surprised himself, he wouldn't be trying to hide his nature or opinions much anymore. ...Had he come here to die? ... Maybe.
He frowned as he recalled what she'd said as she left them. They were here to kill. More encouragement! Wonderful. He looked around at the faces gathered, and then out to the hills around them. It was more hospitable than Ilia had been, though not by as much as you might think. It wouldn't be as cold, but there would be just as many hardships to overcome. And here was where they were training. Garnet expected it to feel more like testing, in actuality.
The red head checked his twohander where it was hanging on his back, making sure it was loosened in its scabbard. He checked the crescent axe hanging from the back of his belt. His red and black square shield was comfortably slung over his back, and his chest plate and other armor pieces felt snug enough. The last bits of his gear were a small rolled up pack which he carried a few necessities in, and the coat that he'd picked up over the road. It might be the most prized possession of all of his equipment. It was tanned of wyvern skin, and was much tougher than it looked at first glance, turning light strikes and padding down heavy blows effectively. Even so, the material seemed to be worn and torn more than its fair share. The stories its cobbled repairs and discolorations could tell would not be pretty.
It wasn't hard to separate the veterans from the new ones. The vets had clearly had experiences like this before and were moving like a unit. He didn't have much to do. The only thing in his pack was a rain cloak wrapped up in a blanket with some dried food and a waterskin. He had a fork, but he'd lost the spoon somewhere.... He'd have to get himself some more equipment next time he got the chance.
Garnet paused, and looked back towards the others. Some looked lost. A few had immediately formed a click. Some were unpacking.
"I'm going to go have a look around." Garnet said, raising his voice towards the gathering. Not many paid much attention, but he heard a few "You do that, newblood. You go do that." Friendly crowd. He decided to himself.
"...Anyone want anything from the market while I'm away? I hear the local meals aren't too bad once you get past the taste."
He got a couple of laughs out of that and was satisfied. He turned away and started heading out from the group towards the nearest hill. He'd never settled in for camp before without getting a good idea of what was around him. At least, not without trouble coming later on.

Vanna was out of the view of her men but they were not out of her's. With the aid of a Seer she was able to keep track of the camp's movements effectively. It was a sneaky and devilish method but too perfect as well. Vanna sat her helm upon a desk. Oh yes, she had the luxury of a preconstructed hut. Naturally however that was the extent of it.
"Now then let's see what is happening." Watching the different groups forming, she found her personal veterans grouped together quickly and were receptive of newcomers that desired to help and learn. This was good. Other, experienced individuals however set about trying to set themselves in charge, making demands and not being very well received. All the experience in the world meant nothing if no one was willing to follow.
It appeared as though roles and groups were establishing quickly. There were the odd ones and twos that tried to play the lone wolf act of course. They would either learn better or be... offed rather quickly. "This is good. It looks like they are getting along much more swimmingly than last year. That was quite the frustration."
The previous year met with mutiny and defect upon mutineer and defect. It got to the point Vanna herself had to deliver executions just to keep order. "Lady Lazer" came the old and decrepit voice of her seer.
"Yes, what is it?"
"It would seem there is one already attempting to leave the premises." This caught Vanna's attention. Looking into the crystal ball herself she was given the sight of a red haired man. He seemed to be well geared if not a bit haggard.
"Let's see... this one was named Garnet was it?" Vanna had a terrifyingly sharp memory of names and faces. If she could not recount you upon a second meeting then you knew you were horribly plain. "Hmm, what is this?" A youth began to give chase behind Garnet.
"'Scuse me sir! I heard from the others you were going to go scouting. I'm a touch clumsy I am, but I've got a good bow and sharp eyes ta boot! I reckon I could come with ya! Daniel Lark's the name!" Daniel was a wiry youth with freckles covering the entirety of his body. He was shorter than Garnet but not by much. His bow appeared to be well worn past it's use, and held together by tape as if to stress that fact. The boy could not have been older than 19.

Edrick stood among a mass of people observing the reason why he was here. He was here to join The Terminal 31st. He had heard of them and their exploits A lot when he was at home in Etruria; he had also heard of their fearless leader Vanna. He already had a picture of her in his head, tall, strong, beautiful, intelligent, kind. Probably very intimidating, But he wouldn't let that get to him, she was probably a nice person, maybe, Hopefully. What was he thinking, of course she had to be, she is following The Prophet so she had to be nice at some times.
Although in traveling here he was a bit confused on the location. The area was filled with with rocky hills that weren't that easy to move around in. On his way up there he wasn't paying attention, got a little to close to an edge, and almost tumbled down the steep hill. If that had happened then he probably might have broken something, and in this area chances are that some wild animals would have happened upon him before any person would have, well, nice person. He had heard that there were a few bandits out here. Maybe Vanna would help change that? That was the only reason besides training that he could think of to be out here, but training this early?
The person standing if front of everyone decided to remove their helmet. The result was a beautiful woman, was this Vanna? If it was he was wrong on her height, but the intimidation was there, especially since she had that giant axe with her. Did she really wield that thing in battle? That was a pretty scary thought. Then she started her speech. The speech sent chills down his spine, was it the speech itself, or was it the conviction in her voice? HE couldn't tell, but it did indeed inspire him, except for the kill part that is, he would prefer to do things peacefully, but if there was no other way. . .
He began to look around at the people around, just like he was told. He felt like he didn't really fit in. At all. He felt so much more fancy with his cloak on, the expensive resilient materials and the gold lining. At least his other fancy cloths were tucked away in his large pack. The fact that she was saying that these people's lives were going to be intertwined with his, but that many of them were also going to die was. . . disturbing to him. But her words of being extensions of The Prophet reassured him, it made him happy to actually be of use to the man that brought prosperity and general peace to Etruria, and it showed, to be use to the one chosen by Elimine.
However he was surprised to learn that their training started right now. With the stuff they had and that they would be out here for the next week with nothing else.He wasn't completely used to surviving out in the wilderness yet, but he had quite a bit of knowledge stored away that might come in handy. Like the fact on his way in he spotted several fruit bearing trees full with ripe loot for the taking, although it might take a while to actually get it all.
He stood around awkwardly for a bit until they were dismissed to set up camp, he would probably need to get those fruit, the personal rations he had brought would only last him about a week, not to mention the fact that it wouldn't feed everyone. He stood around awkwardly for a bit as people started grouping up and getting set on tasks, but he didn't see any dedicated to getting food. He aimlessly walked around for a bit, greeting those that he came across until he found a stack of large sacks that no one else seemed to be using; He scooped a couple up before he began to head back towards the small grove of trees. Once he got a little away from the camp he began to preform his stretches so he wouldn't pull anything from running and oil the moving parts on his claws so that they wouldn't catch or rub too much. Getting too tired from casting magic wasn't good after all.

Garnet stopped when he heard the voice yelling from behind him and turned to see a bright faced freckled youth running up to him. He was taken aback at the apparent age of the young man, and a little saddened to see the youth joining a graveyard troop like this. No one is too young to serve our glorious Prophet, I suppose. Garnet thought to himself sardonically.
He was even more surprised that people had even paid enough attention to him as he was headed out, however. If someone told young Daniel Lark he was going scouting, then someone must have been paying attention. That was encouraging. At least there were signs that the unit knew how to look out for each other.
Garnet sighed, putting his sour mood out to pasture and trying to be a little less grim for the sake of the lad. Maybe he'd just be fatalistic, without the truly negative bits for awhile. Hands on his hips, Garnet answered back.
"Sure Daniel. Feel free to come along for the ride.... Just want to have a little look around the area before settling on where to lay out the blanket for the week. Call me Garnet."
The redheaded swordsman turned and started back onto his heading up the hills again. There would be plenty to see from that height, though now that he was looking out over the land, he'd probably only be able to cover one or two hills before he ought to head back, even working quickly. He abandoned hope of the second on account of his new companion and started trudging up the first hill.
"Just keep your eyes and ears open then, and I'll do the same. Can't have anything surprising us on our first day out." The black clad hero gave it a little time getting started up the hill before slipping out a comment.
"Wasn't expectin' to find someone as young as you among the T31. Seems like a grim place to find yourself. Volunteer yourself, or did you find yourself here by other happenstance?" Garnet's rough voice sounded right at home on the gravelly ground of the hills here on their training grounds.

"A'righty!!!" Daniel exclaimed a tad too enthusiastically. He was rather thrilled to be working with Garnet. "Garnet? Aint that what them lady folk wear around their thighs or somethin?" Daniel meant it innocently, and was thinking of a girder. Though it was his own misunderstanding he still could noticeably be seen contemplating it as they crested the hill. He was a determined kid and was going to match or even challenge Garnet's pace.
"No worries sir! These eyes can catch a rooster harried by foxes out in a snowstorm from 300 feet away!" Almost immediately he stumbled over a rock he failed to see. "Don't count! I was lookin at you's." Rocks and gravel, that seemed to be all this place consisted of. People mentioned trees and fruit around but they must have been talking about some odd ways off. The local camp scenery was rather quite dreary. Still, no way Daniel would let that get him down.
"T31?" Daniel inquired with a cocked head and hip-hands. Thinking on it even one second made the questioning pointless, it did not take long to figure out the meaning. Leaning forward with one hand out pointing he started, "Ah! I see whatcha did there! But ta answer your question I volunteered! The farm has fallen under hard times what with my pa passing. My siblin's are doin what they can but then I heard about this lot. Gettin paid through the nose AND I get ta serve the prophet. Now I donno much bout him but I reckon he ought to be a swell guy if he's got so many adoring followers."
-----------------------------------------------
Many of the people were friendly and receptive of Edrick but plenty of others were also rather harsh and offered choice words toward his relatively aimless wandering. When he left the mutterings were only growing in number among the more judgmental members.
"I don't get it. They don't want to help any? Watch, they'll come back demanding shelter and comforts." One mocked.
"Like that shaman. Did you see what he was wearing? I'm willing to bet just the cloak off his back would last me a month in supplies if offered to the right vendor." Another contemplated.
"Still, if they don't want to help, at least they are staying out of the way." The first agreed.
"I dunno. The shaman mister went off with some sacks. He could be out getting stuff," Daniel suggested.
"Like what? Rocks?" They laughed.
"No! Like fruit! I've heard others mention seeing the stuff around. Or maybe even nuts."
"You're nuts if you think that's what's happening. But if you have so much faith in them why don't you go help out the 'Scouter.'"
"Alright I will! When we get back you'll know all about the area!" Daniel challenged heading off to follow.
"What can they possibly tell us we don't know? Rocks, and hills of rocks. Pretty simple geometry here."
"Geography," Someone corrected.
"No one asked you!"

As Gabe stood there listening to the woman speak he could feel a bit of fear coming to him his heart beating faster and his body shivering but not from cold. He had never been the social type it took a while for him to fully trust anyone even his friends back home took years to trust and they were neighbors. The only reason Gabe was here was to Train and get stronger lose all fear and replace it with strength and bravery.
Gabe knew he could find food he did it a lot back home when he hunted with his teacher during training but here it was different it was a life or death task not just an exercise you could try again tomorrow here if you fail there may not be a tomorrow. "First things first I need to find shelter and a supply of fresh water" thought Gabe. He knew those were the most essential." I just need to find them fast before there isn't any left I can't ask for them everyone else will be working for so I will to I can't free load of others work that is disrespectful to them And their hard work" the only problem in Gabe's plan was that he didn't know the land and its perils and even then Gabe was only 15 and he could barely drag a deer let alone carry it around a mountain he would have to hunt for berries and herbs just in case meat isn't available to him. All he packed was his bow and a hunting knife so they would have to do. This is going to be a long trip but it would be worth it he thought not knowing what awaited him. But now it was time to work as the woman was done talking the week of hell had started

As he walked around there were a lot of people that greeted him with kindness, that made him happy and what was what he expected from people serving Kraft. But then there were others that were talking about him behind his back and that were just plain rude to him, those must have been the people that were here because they thought that this would help them financially or maybe even help restore their souls. He was no one to judge, but some of the people here really needed some help morally. Hopefully those people would find enlightenment through working for The Prophet and not succumb to the darkness of the work that may entail.
He then quickly proceeded to finish his stretching and began to jog off into the distance towards the way that he came from. The ground began to get even rougher the further out he went, as surprising as that was for even being possible. More and stones and what appeared to be loose gravel was replacing what little dirt there was beforehand to make up most of the ground. It was surprising, but somehow plants could grow in this stuff, much like how the seeds of Kraft shall grow in the hearts of even those of the most evil and even those that were extremely stubborn. It showed what the power of Kraft's light could accomplish.
After what felt like an hour of scanning the landscape and moving around he finally spotted one of the clusters of trees that was bearing fruit. The majority of the trees in this cluster held apples, but there was a few other stray trees and bushes that he could get food from. He went over and filled his first three sacks that he picked up with apples. After getting most of the best apples he went and filled the other two sacks with other fruits, berries, and roots that he could find in the area. In total it felt like it was over 100 pounds of food. Getting back was going to take a while, better not waste any time! So he began trudging back to camp with the sacks over his shoulder in a way that nothing would get really squished.

"Those would be garters. A Garnet is a type of stone. Semiprecious. Typically red. I expect my parents named me for the color, though my uncle used to tell me that I had rocks in my head from time to time." Garnet smiled in recollection of the man.... He missed him still.
The red-haired swordsman reached out to catch the youth as he tripped and just about fell. It turned out that the kid caught himself though. Just as well, since Garnet would have cleanly missed catching him. Daniel kept on talking, telling Garnet about the hard times that his family had fallen on. A little farm somewhere, and now this son had come off to sell himself to one of the biggest frauds in history. He hoped that the farm did alright in the end, but he couldn't imagine a price in gold that he would set on a human life.
"I'm sure he's wonderful." Garnet said absentmindedly, turning his attention back to the hike. They were nearing a spot that he'd take as high enough to get a look around.
"Now, the temptation will be to stand on top of the hill while you're scouting things out. That's all well and good for everyday livin, but it sets you up as an easy sight for anyone else looking around to see what they can see. It's easy to spot a body on top of a hill. The sillouhette sets them out plain as day." Garnet turned around and looked back down the way they came as he lectured. He figured he was old enough to lecture people these days. He certainly felt old enough.
Down below was the campsite. The swordsman could already see it taking shape from where he stood. There wasn't alot of shelter to work with in this area, but those with tents were at least setting them up in a decent ring for safety. The campsite was afforded decent visibility, but they had no advantageous ground to work off of. It was just flat turf, with plenty of time to see things heading their way. Garnet was willing to bet that even at night, if the moon was out, they'd see things coming.
"Alright, let's head around to the other side. Hope you aren't too winded then, because we've got to get to that hill across the way before I'm satisfied enough to head back." Without too much delay headed over the hill, and down the other side a little ways. Despite what he'd just said about the silhouettes being easy to pick out on top of the hills, he wasn't overly worried about getting seen. Why should he be? They were in the middle of nowhere, and there was a camp of well armed suicidal fighters just over the hill from him. He glanced around, taking in a simplistic set of hills and fields, a few scraggly wind blown trees, and a small wash running down to a small gulch of a water reservoir. Good to see that they wouldn't be dehydrating while they were here, at the least.
"...Let's head on." Garnet started heading down the hill, counter to the direction that they'd started in. This path would be leading them down and around the hill they were on, and back towards the direction they'd come in from to start with. Garnet jogged easily, feeling the wind blowing softly over his face as he headed down. It was home. Whether ruled by king or priest, he loved his home in Etruria. He was glad he was back.... He just didn't know how long it could last.
After trekking for a bit, they saw a small patch of trees and shrubs they'd passed on the way in. There was someone there now though. Garnet hadn't been paying very close attention to who was around him on the march here, but this man's cloak looked familiar. Fancier than he'd seen on someone marching in a troop, at least. It kind of left a mark in his memory.
"Daniel, I think he's with the Thirty-first. Isn't he?"

Gabe decided to find a place high up so he could find a good spot for shelter. He hiked towards a small rocky hill which he thought would give him a good view of his surroundings. After about half an hour later on his way to the hill Gabe spotted a huge black furred creature in a small cave in the hill eating what looked like a fish and where there's fish there's a stream so Gabe knew he must be close to some water but first Gabe needed to sneak around the bear but as he walked around he accidentally knocked over a small group of rocks and in doing so spooked the bear causing it to run towards Gabe " oh crap." Thought Gabe and he started runniing knowing his arrows couldn't do much to the bear before it reached him so he had to flee and hope to lose the bear then later find some way to get rid of it. After a few minutes of fleeing in terror Gabe was losing steam but the bear was still hot on his trail no matter what Gabe tried to do he was losing hope but then Gabe saw a figure in the distance in what looked to be shaman robes with some bags over his shoulder

Vanna sat with her heels propped up on the table sipping from her flask. "Aurora?" she began addressing her seer.
"Yes my lady?" the weak and creaking voice replied.
"I think I have figured out what I will do for the graduation on the last day. For this however I will be gone for three of these days. In turn I want you to keep a good eye out for the one to take over the training when I am gone. They very well could become my second." Vanna smiled at Aurora and her odd look she offered. The old woman nodded slowly trying to decide what she was planning. Never before in the last nearly decade of this had she ever left the training grounds for any reason.
"I'll do what I can."
---------------------------------------
"Hey kid, stop standing around looking stupid and give us a hand would ya?" came the taunts of some random fighter. Gabe appeared to be focused on something when he suddenly left the camp grounds and began to search around up the hill. The man looked irritated. "I swear, you think at least one of those guys would have stayed to help. We don't need more than one scout out there."
"Lay off it," another said. "We don't know what is out there yet. They may need all the men they can get. Besides with four we can get the entire field of the area. One to each direction."
"Could if they all went those ways. They all went up the same damn hills!"
As if coming in call to the man's shouts a fully armored Vanna looked down at him. How did she approach unseen in such heavy armor!? Her axe was held at her feet one hand resting atop the other. Her voice was warped beneath her mask but it was ever strong and harsh. "Don't concern yourself with them. They all move with intent and purpose. You may yet be surprised by what revelations they bring to you. As for you... you have barked complaints about all those that left and you have yet to touch a single tent or prepare a place for fire."
"What are you saying!? I've been helping plenty!"
"Appearances are deceiving."
The man was insulted and looked at the woman enraged. How could she call him out on this? How would she know. The people around him thought he was busy helping. He certainly made it look like it. She wasn't even around. His fist clenched and he desired to lash out at her. He did not move to but how he wished to.
"If you want to challenge me then feel free to. Defeat me and you can even claim command. What do you say?" Her voice was level and even but her presence bore down immense pressure on the man. He looked almost pained to be in her presence. He eventually conceded defeat silently and began to actually work. He proved a hindrance to the progress and incapable. He had no real skills to speak of.
Now to ensure the wanderers do not get themselves killed first. Vanna left to camp behind and began to climb the hill. Aurora saw a bear and one stumbling upon it. If he escapes then I may offer aid. Otherwise one less on the roster.
In the camp a veteran watched as Vanna left earshot. "She's always been that way. All seeing and such." The speaker turns to the humbled man. "Now imagine if she had been in a foul mood!" He laughs.
-----------------------------------------
Daniel was intent on absorbing all the knowledge his senior could impart upon him. Upon hearing that standing on top the hill was a bad idea he quickly corrected his error and left the hilltop. "Got it!"
"Puh! Winded!? Not even! How could I spend a full day hunting hogs and WRESTLIN' them into submission if I just could not keep up withem?" He sounded almost proud. Still, winded was not an issue, however he was used to breaks and these two were not taking any.
They found water! "Oh sweet hopping peppers!" Daniel ran to drink his fill. He was rather thirsty and now he just wanted to laze about by the water when Garnet declared they would keep moving. Daniel audibly groaned but didn't argue. Stopping in his beeline he turned to follow.
Still thirsty the two were almost on a straight and easy path into camp once more. That was when Garnet asked about a figure in the distance. Daniel shielded his eyes and took a look. "Why I reckon that is the rich fella and would ya look at that!!! He filled his sacks!!! That'll teach them no good doubters!" Then he noticed something else odd.
"Uhh... JUMPING HOT PEPPERS!!! It's a bear!" Daniel turned to run away before remembering his place and turning back but fear took hold and he turned again, but he considered the fate of the others and turned to confront the threat. He drew his bow. "It's too far a shot!!!" He did not believe he could aid the two men. One clearly exhausted from running away and another oblivious to his impending doom. "Tha bear is quick!"
Unknown to all on a distant hill Vanna was there watching everything as it would unfold. Would they be taking names off the roster or would they overcome their first trial. Regardless she watched in anticipation for the end. Either way the four out here would have so little time to rest. Training would start as soon as they finished up.

Garnet didn't care or failed to notice when Daniel made a line for the little gulch and the water gathered in it. Wandering and scouting like this felt familiar and helped him focus on the good memories of his life at home. Scouting helped him put away all the difficult memories of his more recent past, and the demise of his good memories. There were plenty of those thoughts that he wanted to escape from.
"Wrestling hogs?" Garnet sounded surprised and a little amused at hearing Daniel speaking up about that little bit. His esteem for the young man went up a little bit. Farm boys learned how to work hard. That he knew from the ones he'd met.
"Hah. Never tried that before. Heard they're slippery little buggers though. Musta had your work cut out for you on those days."
Garnet squinted at where Daniel's gaze was and caught sight of the bear running up on the figures ahead a moment later. A scowl formed on the red haired mercenary's face as he saw it. Moment's like these were the ones where he had the chance to reflect on his life. Whether misfortune followed him, or he followed misfortune was up for debate, but it was unavoidable for him. Something crazy, violent, or depressing always seemed to occur near him, and because of who he was, he always felt the need to try and stack himself up against it. He couldn't see himself stopping in the near future either.
Taking a deep breath, he steeled himself and gathered his strength before picking up his pace to a full tilt run. Despite the quick pace they'd been keeping all along, he felt like he'd been in only light activity. Finally, he could feel his muscles thrumming with strength, as though imbued with the same strength that had kept him moving and fighting all these years on the run. As he surged forward he shouted back to Daniel.
"Guess you'll need to get closer then!" He was waiting to see what Daniel's mettle was made of. This would be one way to tell though, Normally, this would be a terrible idea. I actuality, it probably still was, but he could do worse than having an archer and two others to back him up. Depending on what the other figures had in their collection of talents, his figuring could be true or false.
As he sprinted towards the pair, he waved his arms over his head, and tried to get their attention. Shouting while running wasn't the clearest way to communicate, so he limited his phrasing to "Run dammit!"
If he could put himself between the beast and the others, he might be able to scare it off. Lore on the creatures always had been scattered, and he hadn't made wild animals or wilderness his area of expertise. It was beasts of another sort that he hunted. A tussle with this creature would be something deadly though.

Edrick just kept walking for a while, trying not to exert himself while carrying the bags before he could get back to camp and get to work. Hopefully this would be enough food for a couple of days for the people. Sure, there was no meat in it at all, but nuts provided some of the things that meat did, so it wouldn't be too bad. He hoped the people at the camp would like what he did, it was good to be liked by the people around you, it helped increase the cogitative, and physical abilities of the troops if they were surrounded by people that they liked, which led to a better force overall. The only thing that he wasn't really looking forward too was killing people. Up to this point, even after the arena event and the siege he still hadn't killed anyone. Not directly at least. He did wish that he could have at the time, during certain. . . moments, but that was the past and this is now. And now required him getting these bags of food back to the camp.
Before he could get back, however, there was something headed his way. Something that he didn't expect and was quite random. A person being chased by a bear. A bear? That was also something he could use! If he could bring down the bare and save that person he not only could save a life but that would be even more food that would be brought back to camp! Other than the person running towards him though there were more people. They were up on a hill quite a distance away, why were they up there? Hopefully they weren't bandits, if they were then that was something else he would have to take care of right now, hopefully they were just more people from camp, buuuuut that shouldn't be too likely, right? Unless people were following him for some reason. Why would people even bother following him? He was just your everyday average noble's kid. Well at least he thought so.
He carefully set the bags down, making sure that nothing would squish anything else, spilling wasn't a problem because they were tied up, but who know what could happen. After he set his bag down he stopped for a moment, the bear and the other person were getting closer, but the people on the kill started towards them, it almost sounded like one of them was trying to shout something, but he couldn't quite make it out. They seemed quite frantic. . . did they want him to run? That couldn't happen, he could never get away with the bags of food and they were the whole reason he came out here. No. This was going to have to be a fight. He did a brief set of basic stretches before he began to go towards the bear, pressing the pressure lever on his wrist causing the blades to effortlessly slide out with a *shlink* as they reached their full length. He also began to focus his magic internally, just in case. Poor bear. Outnumbered so badly.

Gabe was running out of time energy and speed he needed to go on the offensive and quickly or he was gonna be bear food. He noticed some people in the distance running down the hill towards him but gabe wasn't sure if that would be enough. He had to shoot the bear now he knew he couldn't kill with one shot alone his best option was to attempt an arrow through one of the bears legs and slow him down enough to maybe get another shot and get some distance between them. He had one chance if he missed the bear would certainly catch up to him and kill him almost instantly before the people running at him could save him. Gabe readied his arrow and the turned and without hesitation he fired the arrow which held his very life on its hands. The arrow hit the bear's front leg causing it to slow down a little but that was all gabe needed. He began run again until a man ran past him and attack the bear. Gabe then changed his plan started shooting the bear aiming for his legs so that the bear would be less mobile and dangerous while taking extra care not to hurt the man helping him. Then the men running at them came and helped finish off the bear.

(OOC: Well, I just realized the wording at the end of Gabe's last post so the bear doesn't last long. Go ahead and fill your parts of the fight in this round and one of you finish it off.)
In the distance Vanna watched as the absurdity unfolded before her. What sort of misfortune did that young archer possess to have found and angered a bear in such a barren area. Very few beasts traveled within the desolate land. From her hilltop she would leave the encounter to fate with the present candidates. If they could not handle one bear they could never handle life in the Terminal. Her hand lay lightly atop her great axe's shaft and she waited.
Daniel hesitated but ultimately charged with Garnet. "I reckon tha's the secon' largest bear I ever seen!" he exclaimed. The truth of it was that it was in fact the largest he had ever seen. Having never before seen a bear he thought he had once due to shadows in the middle of the night. As he rushed he knocked an arrow and let it fly. For the arrow to even fire was impressive but the aim was terrible. The shot whizzed by the young Gabe's face nearly grazing him and missing the bear entirely.
"I'm sorry!" He cried, preparing another shot. Closing the gap the bear rose on its hind-legs and swatted at the recruits. The numbers were disorienting to it and being pelted by arrows was most unpleasant. Though Daniel had not achieved a decisive blow he did not run.
At conflicts end Vanna was pleasantly surprised. They would never hear of praise but they did react nicely to the threat. Producing a horn she gave it a good sounding as the noise echoed through the hills. It was the call to bring all the men to her side. Time for some real training. Hand to hand combat was crucial and a strong fundamental to work from.
Hearing the blast Daniel groaned. "Now?" They still had to see if everyone was alright and they had supplies undelivered for the camp. He would ultimately concede to the decision set by the others.
The men began to gather around Vanna. The veterans came quickly and at the ready while others straggled and were hurried by others. One week and a lot to do.
