(Well Garnet kinda disappeared so I guess I'll have Ed take care of the bear)
Edrick kept trotting towards the bear until he was in the area between the bear and the archer. Once he had gotten to that point of separation between the pursuer and the pursued, he took up a defensive battle stance and prepared to face the bear in combat. Oh boy, that was exactly what he planned on doing today. Oh well, at least he was helping to save someone's life. And he had his claws. That was another good thing. If he didn't have his claws his strategy would be completely, he'd have to stay farther away and wither the bear down with his blows. But now he could get up close and personal with a decent chance of taking the bear down swiftly. And against a bear time should be of the essence. If the fight dragged on then there would be a greater chance of the bear landing a hit and if that happened then he could very well lose a limb. Or his life. He shivered at that thought, being slain out here in the middle of nowhere by a bear, his family would never know what happened to him. . .
As the bear got close Ed loosed a blast of elder magic right at the animal and an arrow flew past him, sinking into the animal's leg. It seems that he was getting help from the person he was helping. Woo! He was sure that the person would just keep running away in fear.
The combination of the magic and the arrow worked to slow the bear down by a fair amount, a good enough amount that Ed was ready again from sending the magic out. The bear charged through the last remaining distance between them and rose to its full height, towering over Edrick. Uh oh. The bear proceeded to attack with a powerful downward strike with both its paws, one that could easily remove a limb if it connected properly.
Edrick, almost gracefully, jumped back away from the slash. Spying an opening he lunged forward with his left hand and claws, aiming for the bear's breast bone, intending to go through the chest and pierce into the heart.
The attack connected with the bear's breastbone, but alas, the bear was a big animal with thick strong bones. The lunge penetrated the skin, but the blades stuck in the bone. That might be bad if they didn't come loose.
The bear, still on its hind legs attacked with a vertical slash intending to get Ed while he was stuck. Thankfully, however, the blades came loose with a strong yank, the tip of it covered in blood, just in time for him to receive only a glancing blow to the arm which made it feel all tingly and numb. Not good. But something else drew it's attention away as the bear looked back.
Taking advantage of the opening made after the lumbering bear's swing and the bear looking back, Edrick propelled himself upwards with his legs, already in a crouching position from dodging the previous attack. As he jumped he punched his right hand above him, the claws facing upwards. The thrust that his legs put into the attack as well as the force from his arm found a soft spot in the bear. It's neck. It wasn't what he was aiming for in particular but it worked efficiently enough as a spray of blood began to shoot out of the neck, getting Edrick wet with blood in the process.
After the attack landed he jumped back as the bear began flailing around wildly as blood poured out of it's neck, It's thrashing continued for a while until eventually it died down and the animal lay there dead. Edrick just sort of stared at it. It was the first thing that he'd killed personally. Sure many bandits fell to his strategies at the City of heroes but he only aimed to cripple up until now. At least people would be feeding off of this. And it wasn't intelligent so it wasn't bad, was it?
As Edrick grabbed up the sacks of fruits and nuts he gathered earlier he walked back over to the bear's corpse. That would be difficult to get back by himself. Good thing he had a lot of help here for that.
Suddenly he heard a horn sound out. Strange, was that a signal? "Hey guys can you help?I kinda lost feeling in my left arm and I don't think I could carry a bear back." Once the others took up the bear and one of the bags three bags he would head back to camp with them, after wiping the blood of his claws onto the bear of course.
