Well, I have this idea for a new class.
THE MERCHANT.
I haven't really put too much thought in it, but I'd love it if we had a class like that. He can sell simple items such as vulneraries and iron swords and maybe food and water, and the players can pay him. This way, if they're in the desert or in combat and they really need stuff like that, they don't have to be in a town to get it.
The players pay him and he gets money. He gets HIGH experience for selling to players and really LOW experience for selling to NPC's. Maybe he can be robbed, but only by Thieves who can choose ONE item or a small sum of money. If they succeed that is. He also gets a horse and maybe some henchmen.
He will be able to fight but he will really suck at it. That's why he has henchmen.
Sounds good?

Sounds interesting, kinda like Merlinus. But if someone became that class it might be a little boring just selling stuff. Having henchmen would be fun.^_^

You could have a guardian and such but the merchant might be a bit boring. Plus the user with the merchant could make his guardian become powerful quickly. The merchant gives the guardian a lot of gold, the guardian buys the best weapons. If there were a merchant class, it should get a discount at the shop so he/she could pretty much run their own shop. And, could possibly give discounts to friends on the board and such.

That would be a good idea. The person who is a merchant should probably have a second account also, so they can play normally. But you shouldn't be able to give discounts to yourself too much.

But the thing is all this class idea is doing makeing a NPC into a PC that all they do is sell stuff. Wouldn't they need money in the first place to start buy things to sell?

You have a point. Merchants are pretty much covered in the NPC roster. Turning them into a PC is pretty much only giving them a personality and past.

Besides, who here would make a Merchant? I know I wouldn't. No fighting, and nothing to do but walk around, being dumb, selling weapons/items. And you first need to get THOSE.

Let's say you already have the stuff you need. You already start with a certain amount of items and let's say that your guardian is your fighting character. So actually, you are TWO persons in ONE account. And, since you already start with stuff to sell, you'll be able to buy new stuff with the items you sold. Of course merchants will be able to get, let's say, a 50% discount when buying in a shop. Because they're merchants. Mkay?
(and I would like to make a Merchant...)

How about your the guardian and have a partner NPC that's the merchant. Then we'll have to create alot of rules for that class...

Why would that make a difference?

Well, that would allow the Merchant NPC to have more than the limit of 5 items normal characters have. Plus, how are stats any good to a Merchant? It's not like he has armor to defend himself with, or the skill to dodge, being most of the time moving on top of a horse. A horse which, let me remind you, is carrying a caravan full of items, which means that it can't do fast turns to dodge either.

Maybe you could have seperate profiles or a combined profile of both characters. Then when you post you will just have to control one or the other or both at the same time. I'm not sure if that would be too confusing though...

Touché. But I can still act as if the merchant is a 'real' person and that I'm 'him'. Right? He just doesn't level up. And I'll play the Guardian too, who WILL level up.

Indeed. We have yet to approve of this idea, though. It sounds good, so it MIGHT get applied. But...how would we class the account? Mercenary/Merchant, Myrmidon/Merchant and so on? Not really...classy.

That makes sense. But you would have to manage your shop somehow, like in a certain setup so people can choose what they want. And you would sell better stuff as you go along. It does conflict with other class names though...
