Venford smirked a little bit at Quineve's reaction: for such a dainty flower she had bigger stones and greater composure than some of the more hardened men Venford had met. No screams, thankfully, so she kept her promise. However despite the fact that her eyes went wide she didn't seem all too shocked or afraid. The pinkette stepped back and was silent before eventually asking a few questions. Not the questions he expected either. To the point where Venford couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"Male or female? Most people start with 'what is THAT'!" He managed to state between laughs. Venford clutched his chest before walking over to Prince's side. Of course the griffon, stoic as ever, just kept his sharp gaze fixed on the lady he was unfamiliar with. "He's a male griffon. Named him Prince because...well, look at him. I wouldn't say beautiful but he's certainly elegant. Regal."
Venford started to slowly untie Prince. He didn't actually know how the griffon would react, but this was certainly not Prince's first time meeting other humans since the poachers. He tended to treat them more or less the same way he treated Venford: with indifference. To be fair it Ven got significantly less disinterest than others did, but...
"You can come closer, of course, but I'm going to set him loose. He won't attack you, I promise, but if I were him I wouldn't appreciate strangers coming up close to me while I could barely move." Of course, for all Venford knew, people had been ogling the griffon whilst he had been gone. Then again, he hadn't heard any screams...so perhaps not.
"As for if I travel often, well...heh, yes. Fairly often, and plenty far too. After all I had managed to go far enough to find Prince, and his kind sure as hell can't be found on the mainland." Venford just remembered the other questions the lovely pinkette had asked him. His focus had been on revealing Prince to her. Wasn't the first time he'd introduced the griffon to someone, but it was the first time he had the chance to introduce Prince to a woman he fancied...at least in a peaceful setting.
"And you have done some travelling, then. It doesn't show on your face at all." Venford shot the pinkette a smile. "Which is a good thing, in it's own way. Still it's great you decided to leave Aqualeia. Elibe has too much to offer and life is too short. It's not right to just spent so much time in one place, at least while you're young." Once he untied the rope around Prince he gently pat the griffon's head and looked at Quineve. "I don't really miss home too much. Used to write all the time, still do sometimes. They want me to visit, my parents that is, but I...can't. Not until I know Prince will be fine in a desert environment."
The truth. Venford had wanted nothing more than to spend time at home after nearly getting marooned on Vinland. However he hadn't returned from the island alone, and he wouldn't have returned at all had it not been for Prince. His village was a fair bit deep into Nabata, and while Prince seemed to handle the climates of Etruria, Lycia, and even Bern just fine, the more extreme climates of Ilia and Nabata made Venford uneasy. He had no precedent to go off. No book to read or person to tell him that yes, griffons can handle extreme heat or cold. Vinland hadn't really had either of those things: and if it did Prince hadn't been found there.

Hearing Venford laugh made Quineve laugh as well. It wasn't as loud or lively as him. It was somehow of a shy laughter not sure if she should be laughing or not. But still, his laugh was contagious and it made her feel better as well. She smiled and held her hands together for a moment. "I didn't know what to expect," she admitted to him. "Something with more scales and less impressive I guess." She wasn't very sure if that made any sense at all. "And Prince is a nice name. There is something... Regal about him like you said." Deciding to use Venford term seemed to be the best way to describe it. Quineve then noticed the mercenary untying the griffon. On that, she froze in place not knowing what would happen next. However, Vemford did told her that he would not attack. But that didn't chase every doubts that she had. She never saw that kind of beast before and she knew that he could easily hurt her badly if things goes wrong. She took a deep breath and decided to have faith in Venford's words. Deep down, she knew that the man she just met was totally in control but there was still that feeling of danger.
"You said that you found him?" The lady asked with curiosity. Like he said, he must have traveled pretty far away to find such a magnificent griffon. After a while, Quineve finally made one step forward. And then two steps back. Her hands, still held together, was shaking a bit. With one other deep breath, another steps was taken and this time, she stood in place. "I'm... Kind of scared to be honest." She couldn't find the right words exactly. She really wanted to come closer and maybe touch him or something but wasn't sure if it was the best idea to do so. You can pet a horse but a griffon? Maybe not so much.
She looked at Venford with worried eyes, waiting for him to signal her that she could indeed come a bit closer. "May I assumed that you two met a long time ago?" Quineve attention was glued to the griffon's head while asking that question. She just couldn't keep her eyes away from him. He was a beautiful beast, that was true. To think that Venford could ride on it made Quineve dream that maybe she could ride on his back one day. Being able to fly with the wind must be a magical kind of feeling. She wouldn't tell him that though, Not that early.
If Venford would give her the Ok, Quineve would make very tiny steps toward Prince with her right hand sightly extended straight ahead. "Is it alright if I touch him?" She didn't knew exactly why but part of her really wanted to just come in contact with the griffon. Maybe it was the thrill of the unknown, her sense of adventure perhaps. Whatever it was, there were definitively something inside of her that truly wanted to just touch him.
"I see that you deeply care about him," she complimented him. "That makes you a good person, Venford." Again, she called him a good man. "For him to trust you, you can not be a bad human being." And she paused to see if she could still come closer. Just a bit, not enough to be able to touch his head unless he would come closer to her.
"Tell me, Venford. How is it to fly with him?"

Quineve seemed nervous. Not afraid, just uncertain. Ven couldn't blame her in the least. Even he was uncertain about a lot when it came to Prince. He just liked to think that the things he was certain of were the most important anyways: that Prince meant well. That Prince was his comrade and friend first, and a mount second. She even openly admitted to being afraid...but Prince was untied now, and he didn't budge an inch.
"I'm pretty sure you can approach him now. I know it's a bit frightening, but if he wanted to harm you he'd have done so already." With that out of the way Ven crossed his arms and nodded at the pinkette. "And yes I found him. On an island off the coast of the mainland, far off the coast. The...sailors who hired me had called it Vinland. That's where Prince and his kind come from. Griffons, by the way, in case you didn't know the term for them."
"This wasn't very long ago, though. A couple of months honestly...hell it feels like yesterday still." Venford looked over at Prince, who met his gaze immediately. "I've learned a lot about him since then, but I still only know so much. He's healthy and doesn't seem ANGRY, though, so I think I'm doing all right with him." Ven chuckled again and patted Prince's side. The griffon moved his wings a bit, not fully extending them, almost like a human adjusting their shoulders.
"Can you touch him? Er, yeah, I guess. I'd do it slowly, and at first keep your hands where he can see it. Easy enough since he sees freaking everything anyway. Like a hawk but better."
Again Quineve complimented Venford on his good nature. He really didn't see it as anything special, but...she had a point. To that day Ven still had no idea why Prince had decided to abandon his family just to help him, let alone why he stayed. He assumed it was because Prince did not know how to get home, but if he really was so bird-like then Ven doubted that was the reason. Prince felt like he had some sort of purpose, that was his guess.
"Thanks a lot, Quineve. I think you might be right. He is pretty perceptive, moreso than I am." He smiled and stepped towards the pinkette, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "And I think you're a good person too. Least I haven't seen anything to prove otherwise, heh heh...so you'll be fine with him, trust me."
Then the real question came. What was it like to fly with Prince? Ven gave the griffon a fond smile and chuckled softly. "Terrifying, at first. He's bloody fast and he's only just gotten accustomed to carrying humans around. But once you get used to the speed it's...thrilling. The view you can get up high too is just beautiful. My favourite time to go flying with him is at dawn. To get as high as possible and just watch the sun rise over Elibe. It's...there's nothing like it."

Quineve placed her hand on Venford's when he went to touch her shoulder. That simple gesture was comforting to her even so that she held on his hand for a moment. "Griffons," she repeated after him. "It's definitively the first one I see in person. I might have heard about that name before. It's hard to think looking at him, he is captivating to say the least." With one hand holding Venford's and the other now fully extended toward Prince, the cleric made one final step forward and then stopped completely. She was now in reach of touching the griffon, but she was hesitating. She had to take two deep breaths before finally leaning forward to touch Prince on the beak. It might not be the brightest idea to touch what that could easily tear her hand off but that's the think that was the closest to her.
After touching the beak, Quineve giggled like a small girl. Releasing Venford's hand, the lady took a tiny step and went to touch Prince on the side of his head. "He is so soft," she spoke with a kind voice. She was smiling and petted Prince around his beak and then retracted her hands away only to hold them together. She wanted to go slow in case that he wouldn't like her touching him too much. "Hello Prince, it is nice to meet you." And she bowed a little with her eyes closed, a gesture that might not have any meaning to the griffon but that was how she greet people. She stayed a that bowing position for a moment longer before opening her eyes and look at Prince in the eyes.
"It must be nice to always have someone to count on," she then commented. "As much that I hate to admit it, loyalty is not a common thing anymore but you two seem to be on the right track. Nourish that bond, Venford. I'm sure Prince would do the same for you." And she turned to face the mercenary upon saying that. "However, I do not think that I need to tell you that though." And she laughed very softly. "I am sure that you already knew that." Turning her attention to the griffon once more, Quineve tiled her head slightly on one side. "I am sure that he knows that as well. Right, Prince?"
Quineve took a moment longer to study the griffon and enjoy how majestic he was. She guessed that he wouldn't let anyone to touch him so she was happy that she got to do so. "Oh where's my manners," she then quickly said before nodding. "My name is Quineve. It is my pleasure to meet you." And she bowed again but only for a second. "I hope that one day, you will let me fly with you." To be honest, she would be terrified. Not that she was afraid of heights, but if Venford spoke the truth, going fast so far up must be very, very terrifying. She was also pretty sure that he wouldn't let her on his back right away. He had no reason to let her do that, they have only met a minute ago.
"Oh, should we give him something to eat?" Seeing that there were most likely nothing edible for him in the stables. Now that she thought of it, what does a griffon eat? Placing a finger on her chin, Quineve pondered for a moment. "Maybe I am wrong, but I may guess that he eats fishes?" She was looking a Venford upon asking that. "Perhaps we can find him something to eat. I am not sure if we should bring him with us, people might get scared." And scream too. "Maybe we could try to find somewhere to buy something for Prince, it would be my present for him."
"What do you think?"

At first Quineve seemed reasonably hesitant in actually petting Prince, but Ven's comfort seemed to work quite well. Honestly the redhead never knew exactly how Prince would react, but he seemed just as stoic and indifferent to Quineve's touch as he typically was to Venford's. Which was good, it meant no harm came from all of this, and more importantly it meant that Ven was right about his friend. Hearing Quineve giggle with joy made it all the more worth while.
"Yeah, he tends to take pretty good care of his plumage. I help a little bit, but usually I just let him do his thing. I get the feeling he's kinda particular about it anyway." Ven stated, chuckling when Quineve bowed to the Prince. Her eyes were closed, so she may not have noticed, but Prince returned the gesture in his own way. The griffon dipped his head slightly, to which Ven blinked in surprised. That was a new...thing. Was he just doing that to mimic her action?
"Er...yeah." Ven refocused as Quineve asked another question. "Yeah, it is I guess. I'm also a bit spoiled when it comes to that. Before Prince my mount was a Nabatan Charger, that's a breed of horse by the way, named Berial. He wasn't quite as sharp but for a horse he was as good as they came really." The stuff about bonds she mentioned...well, he didn't feel the need to comment on it. Ven was well aware that he and Prince were forging a strong bond with each passing day.
Prince didn't bow the second time Quineve did, but he did click his beak once and let out some sort of creaky sound. The creaky sound was still something Venford hadn't worked on, but one click of his beak meant recognition. It was Prince's way of saying "I see you" or "I see something". Venford was just happy it had only been one click. Two usually meant "I see food" or worse "I see enemy".
"I'm pretty sure he's all right with letting others ride him so long as I'm up there with them. I mean, he hasn't had anyone mount him without me, so I'm not sure, but he hasn't complained or acted out whenever I've had a passenger." The real question when it came to Quineve riding Prince was if she'd be able to stomach it. Venford had nearly lost his lunch the first time he rode Prince, but then again that was before the griffon was at all used to carrying humans around.
"Er...yeah, I mean, I guess we could grab him some food." Ven patted Prince's head softly and looked at Quineve. "But he doesn't have a lot of trouble getting food on his own, and he usually eats fish. He'll eat other meats if you give it to him but whenever he hunts he tends to go for fish. Problem is I had let him hunt before coming here. He can get pretty noisy when he's hungry and I didn't really want him to cause a scene here."
Venford's smile turned into a cheeky grin. "But...I guess a snack couldn't hurt."

Quineve did heard the creaky sound but for some reason, she didn't do anything upon hearing it. Mostly because Venford did not panic upon hearing it as well. She had no clue on what it meant but felt that it was maybe a way to communicate something, something that Venford understood. So she just looked at the mercenary for a moment before going back to the griffon. "I don't think I've ridden horses before as well. But I am guessing that riding a griffon would be harder?" She wasn't sure but falling from a griffon seems more dangerous. Not that falling of a horse wasn't.
After a moment of silence, Quineve took a step back and held her hands together. "It is a good idea, Venford," she would say to him. "A snack would be good. Since we are both new here, I am guessing that we should take a peak around." And she paused to turn her attention to the man. "I think that there is mainly just one big street in this village. If we just follow it, I am guessing that we will find some place to eat. And maybe find something for Prince as well."
The village was indeed pretty much built on a straight line so if they just walk for few minutes, they were bound to find something to eat. "Good bye Prince. But I am sure that we shall meet again." And she laughed, of course they were going to meet again. They were going to travel together! Quineve went to pet the griffon once more before making her way away from the stables. She would stay still until Venford would also make his way toward her before exiting the stables.
As they both made their way back toward the main street, Quineve was walking, as usual, not that fast. Looking around her, she could see many people walking around, kids playing in the shadows and all kind of other stuff to see. For a small village, there were a lot of activity going on. It wouldn't take long before seeing some place of interest. A bakery. Stopping a few steps in front of the bakery, Quineve would slowly point at the door. "Should be go here?" She asked Venford.
The door was already open and only the baker seemed to be there. Quineve would wait for Venford to approve before steeping in. Inside, the baker waved a them and shouted. "Welcome!" He almost screamed to them even if they were less than meter apart. His voice was loud but not unpleasant. "What can I do for you two lovers?" Upon hearing that, Quineve's cheeks went pink. "Oh... We are not lovers, we just met." But she did giggle a bit. "Ah, that's what they all say! Come, come! What can I serve you lovely birds?" Quineve giggled again. She knew that the baker was either just joking around or saying that to make quick sell. And the later might just work for him.
"What would you like, Venford?" There were a good selection of baked good in front of them so she really couldn't decide on what to buy. Hopefully, Venford was someone that could make decision quicker than she could. Otherwise, they were going to just stand there awkwardly. But the Baker didn't mind, he was juts smiling at the 'couple' and with big arm gestures, presented his merchandise proudly. "Please take your time!"

"Eh, sure, what's the harm anyway?" Ven wasn't too concerned about getting a snack for Prince, but at the same time he certainly didn't see a downside. He watched as the pinkette gave Prince some sort of dramatic farewell, to which the griffon merely stared at her. Quineve was...funny, in an odd sort of way, but really Venford supposed he was much the same. It was nevertheless endearing.
Venford followed Quineve out of the stable and back into the village proper. Of course her pace was still a bit on the slow side, but there was no need to rush. Venford was more concerned about finding something he knew Prince could eat. He didn't want to feed the griffon something that could wind up harming him. Meat was what he knew would work...which was why he was hesitant when Quineve made towards a bakery.
"I...look, the only stuff I've really seen Prince eat is meat. I don't know if he'll even eat anything from a bakery. But I guess this is as good a time as any to find out?" Surely the griffon wouldn't eat something he couldn't stomach, right? He was smarter than that. So worst case scenario the two of them would just eat whatever they purchased.
The baker was the only one inside the bakery, and he seemed a jovial man. Loud but friendly...and quite bold. He even went so far as to call Ven and Quineve lovers. Quineve's reaction was modest, though Venford did take note of her blush. Before he could chime in Quineve laid out their status of having just met, and so Ven decided to focus on what they actually arrived for. He still made sure to shoot her a playful grin, though.
"Uh, well, I don't know. Something simple, just to be safe." Ven gestured towards a few buns that were on display. They weren't too large or expensive, and seemed to be fairly basic, which meant there was a lesser chance of the buns containing anything too foreign for the griffon. "Yeah, maybe one or two of these small rolls."

Quineve giggled and placed one hand to hide her smile when Venford told her that Prince only eats meat. "Oh, but that snack is for us, dear." She said while laughing softly. "We can find something else for Prince later on. I thought that maybe we should buy something for us as well." The baker also laughed, even if he maybe didn't understand who Prince was. He was most likely just laughing for the sake of laughing. The lady with pink hair then removed her hand and studied the bakery for a moment. For a small bakery there were certainly a lot of stuff. In fact, too many choices was worst than not enough.
Quineve attention stopped on one baked good in particular. "How about, this one." She said while pointing to a loaf of bread that had a crown motif on it. "How much for two?" She then asked with her finger still pointed at the loaf of bread. The baker took the two loaves of bread and placed them on the counter in front of them. "Four pieces for the two." It seemed like a good price. Quineve was about to grab the small pouch tied to her dress and went to count four pieces. When she took the pieces from the pouch, the baker stopped her with a hand gesture. "No, for you, three pieces." Quineve was surprised, he didn't have to lower his price for her.
Placing all four pieces on the counter thinking that maybe he would take them all since she placed them in front of him, Quineve waited for the baker to react. After looking at the pieces laid in front of him, the baker was clearly thinking about taking them or not. It took him few second before taking three of them and pushing the last one toward the lady. "Oh, you do not have to..." To this, the baker shook his head. "No, I said three so it's three." Quineve took a moment of hesitation before taking back the coin. "Thank you, you are a good man, sir." And the baker laughed.
After putting back the coin into the pouch, Quineve took both loaves of bread and extend her arm to give one to Venford. "Here, I hope that you are hungry." After giving it to him, Quineve would thank the baker again this time with a small bow. After that, she would exit the bakery. She would hold down to the bread with both hands in front of her body. She would wait for Venford to take the first bite, if he was actually going to do that. If not, well she would just hold on to the loaf of bread for a bit.
"So, now that we have something for ourselves, we can go find something better than bread for Prince." And she would giggle again upon saying that. "Shall we continue down the street?" There were pretty much just one big street anyway. "Perhaps, it is your turn to choose what to buy?"

Venford blinked at her use of the term "dear". Was it just because of how the baker treated them? They certainly weren't a couple yet...were they? Venford was just looking for some fun with the girl, at least at first, and he did find her charming. Hm, better to think about that later. Instead he smiled, relieved that the bread wasn't going to be some sort of test food for Prince. "Oh, right then. Still, the rolls are good enough."
The Baker proved to be a kind man, offering them a discount for...well, seemingly no reason. Venford could only imagine it had to do with Quineve's appearance, but either way it was a nice enough gesture. Venford gratefully accepted the loaf from Quineve and smiled. "I am, actually. Thank you." And he was, so he wasted little time in taking his first bite. The bread itself was nothing special, but it was baked well regardless.
Quineve suggested that Venford look for a good place to buy something for Prince, which he agreed with rather strongly. This was still his first time buying food for the griffin but he knew that meat was a safe bet. So Venford immediately began to look around for the nearest butcher. He didn't have to cook the meat either, in fact Prince probably wouldn't like it cooked, so if he could find a nice slab of fish or venizon he'd be set.
Sure enough, not too far from the bakery, was a butcher's shop. Venford gestured to it, not bothering to talk as his mouth was full of bread, and made his way towards the parlor. There was a small line but it went by fast enough, and Venford was met with a large, unimpressed woman standing behind the counter. How delightfully stereotypical: happy baker, angry butcher. Well, considering her job, Venford supposed it was less unnerving for her to be angry than jovial.
By then he had swallowed his mouthful, and quickly ordered. "Hi there! Just one venizon steak, please."
The woman grunted...and Venford winced. Of course the venizon was a great deal more costly than the bread. Ah well...she insisted on getting him a snack, but Venford did take silent note of this. Hunting was free, and Prince was plenty good at hunting.
Venford laid out the coin when the woman returned with a sealed bag, his slab of meat no doubt inside of it. "Er, thank you."
Not wishing to spend much more time in the butcher's shop Venford turned to Quineve, nodded, and waltzed back into the streets. "Well, I've seen him eat deer and the like before. Not often, but at least I know it's good for him, right?"

Quineve was quite happy to see Venford take the first bite into the bread. She took a tiny bite out of her loaf for bread soon after as well. There weren't anything special about it but it was alright. She didn't pick the most expensive kind of bread anyway. And they had a discount so there were much reasons to not enjoy the baked good. But she should have taken something a bit smaller for her. Oh well, she can save it for later. She looked at Venford and smiled to him. "You are very welcome, Venford," she replied to him. She wasn't sure but she could guess that maybe she had more gold than him so she didn't mind paying. Some would say that men should always pay for the ladies but she didn't believe in that. Truth to be told however, she didn't really earned her share of gold, it was given to her by her house in Aquleia.
She then followed Venford, again with a slow pace. Quineve looked at the small line, it sure seemed to be a popular place, the meat should be good then. She would wait in line for their turn with the mercenary and actually didn't have to wait that long. Upon entering, she noticed the lady butcher and couldn't help to to feel very small in comparison. But then, most people were taller than her but she was impressive. Holding the bread in one hand, she waved at her but got no response or acknowledgment that she saw her waving hand so she gave up soon after.
Quineve would then wait for Venford to order which kind of meat he would like to buy for Prince. Now that she thought of it, Prince must need a lot of food to stay that big. She was about to ask him about it but the look on the butcher make her do otherwise. Maybe she should wait for the to go outside before speaking. And that's exactly what she did. If only she could be as jovial as the baker. Maybe she had a bad day, she knew that she shouldn't judge people solely by their first impression.
As Venford took his bag of venison, Quineve still bowed to the butcher before going out. It was more of a habit to always thank people with a gentle bow. But again, the lady butcher didn't do anything but to stare. Meanly too. Oh well, can't be friend with everyone. "Well, we will see if Prince likes the venison or not. But if you did saw him eat deer before, we should be fine I think." She wasn't completely sure but she had faith in what Venford said.
After walking a bit back toward the stable, Quineve would try to walk slightly faster but her long robe was always in the way. One day, she will really need to change it to make it easier to walk. "Sorry if I am not very fast, Venford," she apologized softly. Shew then took another bite of the loaf of bread and looked at the mercenary. "How much did that cost you, Venford?" She then asked him so that she could repay him. It was her idea to come get something for Prince so she felt that she should at least pay for it.
"Do not worry about me, I got plenty of gold to repay you."

"Er, yeah it's fine. Really. It's no hassle." Quineve was apologizing for her slower pace. It wasn't troublesome, though again Venford did note that it could be dangerous if she planned on walking during their "trip" tomorrow. Slow movers made for rather easy targets and were more difficult to protect. Venford would have to depend too heavily on the mage he planned on getting recruited to protect her.
The generous pinkette offered to pay for the venizon, to which Venford chuckled. "Nah don't worry about it. He's my griffin, after all. I ought to treat him from time to time, you know?" He replied before taking another bite of his bread. Yeah. From time to time, but certainly not in the near future. Ven barely had enough coin to treat himself! And even then he had to focus on priorities. Basic supplies, sure, but then there was the matter of weapons and armour. Venford had lost his best lance and sword on Vinland, and his old armour had wound up heavily damaged. He'd need to work on replacing those if he intended on surviving future jobs.
They reached the stables soon enough and Venford was relieved to see that they were alone once again. Just the two of them and Prince, who was sitting expectantly once again. Ven glanced at the venizon before shooting a smile full of false confidence towards Quineve. "Well, here goes."
Venford took a few steps towards Prince, opening up the bag as he made his way over to the griff. "Hey bud. We uh, brought you something. Hope you like it." Venford pulled out the slab of deer meat and held it up to the griffin. Prince stared at the meat for a moment, cocking his head a bit as he examined it, before letting out what was apparently a warble of approval and tearing a piece of meat off the slab. He chomped away at it, tossing his head back to swallow, before taking another bite.
"...Well hey, I think he likes it!" Venford said, letting out a relieved chuckle. Thinking back he had no idea why he had been so nervous about it, but since it was working out he was glad to have done it in the first place. Venford looked back and grinned at Quineve.
