Khan Yunis
The waters off the coastlines of Khan Yunis were teeming with sharks of varying lengths. While most sharks appeared to be of one species of black tip sharks there were some smaller sharks that followed the packs. And a few remora fish, that stick to the underbellies of their carnivorous cousins. No one knew where the sharks were going, but every fisherman knew not to waste this opportunity of nature. Shark meat was a valueable and rare source of protein for the desert dwellers of the Nabatan coasts. Nomads, and sailors from all across Elibe swarmed the waters of Kafti and Missur in an attempt to catch the predators of the deep. This migration of sharks brought more then just fisherman and glory seekers to the capital city.
It brought a certain small family of nomadic dragons back together. It was here in the outskirts of the port city that this reunion would take place. Out in the fringes of the city borders there was a small house. The house wasn't much. It had, four walls, made with sand, wood, mud, and a thatched roof made of palm leaves. It has a small wooden door, two square holes in the walls to act as windows, and a pit for a cook fire. Some humans referred to his place as a shack, hut, or a hovel. But to Aeos this place was home. A temporary home. But home none the less.
The tiny family would rent out this home from the owners in the city. It was a cheap and out enough out of the way where the family could talk normally. Where they could talk in the language of the dragons without people looking at them. The young dragon had arrived into this place only a few moment ago. And he was happy with the sight that greeted him. There was a small fenced in area to the sea side of the home. In it there were three faces he knew well. Three camels. Three friends. Archie, Betty, and Veronica. They had an old barrel full of water, some hay bales, and as few chickens to keep them company. Their backs were empty which meant that the owners of the animals had stripped them of their belongings. This meant that the little shore house was occupied. Aeos knew the occupants well. From the air the young dragon could catch the scent of something cooking. Something spicy and full of meat. If he had to guess it was probably spicy goat meat. As the goat in question, an old ram, was conveniently missing from the small pen of farm animals. The dragon in human guise made his way down the sand dune and up over towards the house. He was immediately greeted by the sounds of barking. A sandy colored grizzled mutt emerged from under an old wagon and ran out towards him. Barking in aggression. Aeos immediately recognized the old mutt.
“Ozzy! Ozzy! Oz!” He shouted. He pulled down his hood, revealing his face. And he smiled, crouched down, and held up his arms to catch the creature in his arms. The dog who charged in order to defend his home and masters from this mysterious cloaked figure. Stopped running in aggression and was now running in excitement. He jumped and knocked Aeos down into the sand and started to lick the dragon all over his face. Aeos landed on the floor with a groan which turned into laughter. The dog's tail was wagging and it was all just a bright cheery scene. Until, the laughter was broken by the sound of a man’s voice.
“Ozzy! Get off of him.”

OOC- Everything in bold is in dragonic. Google translate is being a pain in the ass when I try to copy the text to docs. -- Both Aeos and the dog turned to look at the man. The sir was a tall man with a toned build. He appeared to be a man in his late thirties. He had some light wrinkles near his eyes. He had green eyes, the same kind that Aeos has. But his eyes were a bit more narrow something akin to the eyes of Sacean nomads. He had a magnificent beard and moustache. The moustache was in what is known as the “handlebar” style and he had on his chin a full beard. It was trimmed so that the beard hair was pressed neatly onto his face. The facial hair was mostly black with a few tints of grey appearing in the very edges of the face. On his head he wore a white turban. His clothes consisted of a long blue, sleeveless tunic with green trimmings. The his exposed arms looked like they had good muscle to them. While not to the same extent as one who has spent a lifetime body building, they were still built. As if this man had spend his whole life fishing and hauling heavy things. His skin color was a shade darker then the dragon-in-human guise on the floor. He had light tanned pants on and plain sandals.
Aeos gently moved Ozzy the dog off of his chest and picked himself off of the floor. He smiled at the man in front of him. The older sir looked at him, he had his arms crossed, and a slight frown on his face. Aeos stared at him for a bit before remembering his manners. Then he got back down on his knees and bowed.
“Father. I have returned home.” He kept his gaze towards the sand. He was like this for a while, waiting for his father Yasin, to speak. The older man’s frown turned into a grin then he spoke.
“Alright that’s enough. Get up, and give your old man a hug.” Aeos was almost too happy to oblige to the order. He stood up and ran towards the older man and hugged him. Aeos seemed to reach up to his neck. The father’s chin pressed itself onto the top of his son’s head.
“I’ve missed you, Papa.” The younger of the two dragons spoke. Yasin hugged his son for a bit before pulling his boy off of him. He placed his hand on his shoulder and looked at him. He noticed that his son had changed a bit since the last time they saw him. He seemed stronger than what he used to be. Yasin seemed pleased with his son’s growth. But, smirked and chuckled softly at the sand stuck to his son’s face.
“Ah, my little ‘amal.” He pulled his sleeve up over his fingers and tried to clean the sand off of Aeos’ face. It seemed that some things will never change. Aeos knew his father meant well and the gesture was affectionate. But, he seemed a bit ashamed of it. He gently swatted the older man’s hand away and took a step back. He rubbed his palms over his face in order to get rid of the excess sand himself. He was not a child. And despite his appearance, he wasn’t an adult yet either. Dragonic physiology and ages was different than that of humans. He might look, sound, and (mostly) act like an adult to humans, but among dragons, he was the equivalent to that of late teenager.
“Papa, please. I am not a child. I can wipe my own face. But.. ah I’ve so much to tell you and Mama. I’ve so many new stories about the lands outside of Nabata. And i’ve met so many new people.” He spoke with some eagerness in his voice. He wanted to tell them everything that had happened.
“Ah yes. Your mother and I have gotten your letters.” Yasin spoke with a clear voice. He was happy for his son.
Yasin knocked on the door. A woman’s voice from the inside addressed him.
“Joury! Aeos is home!”
Almost immediately the door opened, a woman stepped out. BRACE FOR IMPACT! The mental voice of his stone quipped. This woman was of average height. She had the same skin tone as her son. She had red eyes and long brown hair. Her hair was pulled into a low ponytail. The lower ends of her hair curled in into wavy locks. She kept her hair tied together with a small bandana. She was pretty and had a healthy build. Some, would find her body shape to be attractive. She was curvy. Her eyes were wider than her husbands and shared the same light crows feet wrinkles of her son. Outside, of the light wrinkles she looked as if she was in her mid thirties. She had a red bindi on her forehead in the shape of a circle. She wore a green sari, with a white sleeveless undershirt. The shirt only covered her top leaving her middle exposed. She wore the same style and color of pants as her husband. But they were a bit more fitted towards her female body. She also wore sandals.
Unlike her husband, she did not show remorse towards her boy in the beginning. Instead she ran out and gave the younger dragon a hug. Aeos had to brace himself for his mother’s legendary tackle like hugs. Aeos caught the woman and hugged her tightly. She barely reached his chin. His mother then let go of her boy and spoke in a rather quick tone.
“Aeos! My little hubb hayati! Are you well? Have you been eating? Sleeping?” As she spoke she touched her son’s face. Squeezing his face in between her palms. Then moving to brush the stray hairs out of his face.
“Mama!” Aeos blurted out before pulling his face away from her hands.
“Mama, I am fine. Yes. To all of the above.” He spoke to her in a happy but slightly annoyed tone. He loved his mom dearly, but she knew the woman could be a bit.. Much. He loved and appreciated her sentiments. But, his face did not.
“Our little ‘amal was telling me about his new adventures.” Yasin spoke to his wife with a bit of a smirk. He knew the woman better then anyone and knew exactly what she was going to do. He knew it well enough to secretly mime some of it behind his wife's back.
“Oh? Really? Oh.. but just look at you. Covered in sand and dog spit! And your clothes!” She tugged at her son’s clothes. They were the same clothes she made for him ages ago. They were a tight fit and a ragged mess.
“This won’t do at all. Come, let Mama clean you up.” She tried to tug at her son’s collar in order to force him inside. Aeos had to pull himself back to free himself from her grip.
“Mama, please! I can mend them myself.” He dusted himself off. He could fix his own clothes but he knew his mother was going to fix it for him later. He sighed softly. There was a bit more chatter among the family before things calmed down. And eventually the tiny family of three went inside the home.

The inside of the shack was a stark contrast compared to the outside. While the outside looked very plain and worn, the inside looked very warm and inviting. There were several ornate cloths hung on the walls. They served as some sort of tapestry. Some of the designs were of multiple colored lines, some were had a tessellation on them. Others had a draconic designs on them. Some had human cities. Others had little scenes of nature. A simple straw matt greeted their feet. Woven into it in black straw was the word “welcome” written in the ancient language. The three of them wiped their shoes on the matt before taking off their sandals and putting them aside. Inside the home it was customary to be shoe less.
In the middle of the room was a small wooden table. This table was special as unlike other tables it was not tall. It was a circular table and very low to the ground. There was no chair for people to sit on them like traditional tables in an inn or pub. Instead one had to sit down on the floor either on their knees or on their rear. And each “seat” or “chair” was a small square mat or blanket. Either plain color or with minimal design when compared to that of the wall ornaments. All cloth was kept a good distance away from the corner with the cook pit so as to reduce the risk of fire. The windows were “open” in a sense. The curtain that kept them “closed” was of a simple star and moon pattern. All through out the ceiling of the home there were little holes. These were positioned under the wooden poles that helped create the support structure of the ceiling. These holes helped to let in natural light into the home. This place was close to the sea shore, so it got a nice sea breeze, which helped reduce the amount of insects that liked to show up at night.
The place had no beds. Instead each family member would pull out a straw roll and pick a corner of the room to sleep in. More often than not Yasin and Joury would sleep together. And Aeos would pick a side with one of the windows. Sometimes, when the heat was just too much the younger of the dragons would just sleep outside under a tarp. Some times as punishment for misbehaving he would be forced to sleep with the animals. Aeos took out from his bag both the jewel from his adventure with Gar and Oscar. Aeos set his cloak and bag down on one of the wooden coat racks by the door. He pulled out one of the seating mat’s and sat down.
Aeos had so many memories of this place. He watched as his parents started to settle down and talk amongst themselves. Joury was busy tending to the various boiling pots that were hanging around the fire. Yasin went and grabbed a few cups from the shelf. Joury poured some warm milk into the mug. Yasin put in some mint leaves, some pepper, and a tiny bit of vanilla. The mugs were then put on the table and the family sat down.
There was a whole lot of gossip going on between the three of them. Aeos went and told his family everything. He told them about his journey around the continent. The good stories and the bad stories. Some stories his family knew. They knew about Euphemious. He was the knight who helped their son throughout Bern. He was also the one who helped Aeos find some herbs for Joury a while back. They knew of Bee. The human who had a fascination with fire. But this was the first time they were hearing about the “mountain”, about Locke, and Gar. The fact that their son had met other dragons, out there, made them happy.
He told them how he met Locke. Out in a village of a desert who were celebrating some festival and had a wrestling competition. Then how they shared a few drinks in a local tavern and later went night flying. How they play fought in the ruins of Locke’s old home. And just how it felt good to fly around in the night and simply be himself.
Then he spoke about the “Mountain” of Lycia. The “jabal” in their language. Aeos description of the mountain seemed to match a dragon of the old days. Both parents exchanged glances for a moment and silently wondered if it was the same “mountain”. Aeos told the story of the mountain, how he managed to survive out in Bern with his father. Before the humans found them and killed the man’s parents. Upon hearing that both of the older dragons dismissed the thought of this “mountain” being the same “Jabal” of ancient times. But they were sad to hear that the mountain now had a hatred towards humans. And how that hatred seemed to have affected their son’s high spirits. And that how the “mountain” was also like them, a stoneless dragon.
Then he spoke about Vinland. Now his parents were familiar with the place due to their son’s letters. But reading about something and talking about something were two different somethings. Aeos went ahead and described the landscape and people of Vinland. He spoke about Rhea. And how she was both a bear and a human. A taguel, a shapeshifter like dragons were but different. How that there were monsters over there like the ones on Elibe. But, they were different. He described how the air of Vinland just felt different. It felt better. Natural. And how he expressed how he wished for them to see it. To see the natural wonders of the island. He described Gar and how they managed to strike up a friendship. He told them about their most recent adventure in the windy village and the tomb of spirits. He told them about how he and Gar helped to free all of the trapped wind spirits. And how he got to fly around in a tornado. He showed them the gem he tried to eat and of the metal idol Oscar. The gem was probably worth a good amount of gold. He gave it to his parents in order to help them pay for certain travel expenses. He knew money was hard to come by as a nomad. They were happy but at the same time they tried to give back the gem. Stating that his travels would need to be better funded. This argument went on and on for a while until it was agreed that they would simply split the future gold in half.
Aeos then spoke about his encounter with monsters. Specifically, The monster in black armor. He spoke how it was able to make undead by killing things with it’s spear. And how it seemed to have an army of re-animated corpses. Aeos described how he was forced to fight and run away from the creature twice. And how he vowed to get stronger in order to fight the creature. It disturbed them that such a monster roaming around the world. They were afraid that their son was willingly training to eventually seek out and destroy this monster. They started bickering amongst themselves in typical parent fashion. His father encouraged this behavior. Saying that having a goal like this would be good for the boy’s growth. His mother was against it and wanted her son to refrain from some dangerous life threatening behaviors.
“Joury, if he doesn’t do it.. Then who is going to stop the monster?”
“Let the humans figure that out. They managed to make weapons to butcher our kind in only a few years. Give it time. I do not want him to get hurt.”
“Joury what if the humans do not figure it out..”
Aeos simply sat there and took a sip out of his drink. He closed his eyes and rolled them under his eyelids. This was similar to the argument they had when Aeos first left the family. His mother refused to let him go while his father encouraged him to leave. This bickering went on for a bit before Aeos interrupted them.
“Enough! I already made my choice. I shall continue this journey and get stronger. I want to get stronger. To defend people. You guys.”
The family continued to talk together. Catching up on everything that had happened between parent and child. This talking went on until sunset. There were occasional breaks in between the chatter to check on the food, animals, and prepare the dinner table. And once it was all said and done the family sat down to a nice meal of spicy goat meat and flat bread. There was water or tea to drink. Once dinner was finished things settled down. Aeos helped out with his usual chores. It was decided that the son would help the father tomorrow morning with the fishing. It had been a long time since he last went out on the fishing boat with father. And this would serve as a nice bonding experience between father and son. The family did one final check of the animals. Did any simple last minute things around the house before turning in for the night.
The family was up a little bit before dawn. Aeos changed into a second set of hand-me down clothes from his father. An old grey tunic and pants. Joury would spend the day tending to her son’s clothes and making any necessary purchases in the market.

The wee hours before dawn.
Out of habit every member of the small dragon family was awake and slowly shuffling about. Joury was the first one to wake. She gently pried herself out of the loving arms of her husband and made her way to the fireplace. She fed the fireplace some wood and used some dried straw as tinder to get the fire going. Once that was going she set a tea pot up over the flames. She then set about waking up the two men in her life. She shook her husband awake. He playfully dragged her back down onto the bed cot with him and nuzzled his face into the back of her neck.
“Five more minutes Joury.” He muttered. Joury just shook her head lightly and gave her husband a kiss on the forehead before wriggling out of his grasp a second time.
“Come now, Yasin. Today is fishing day. Watch the pot for me while I go wake our son.” She spoke with some sternness in her voice. She loved her family dearly and on most other days she would let her family sleep for a few more minutes. But, not today. Today they needed to get ready to go fishing. Else there will be nothing for them to eat for dinner.
Yasin eventually got up out of his bed roll. Groggy. He headed out of the home and out into the designated place in their patch of the desert to relieve himself. Aeos slept outside. He slept underneath a small awning that was set up for shade. He was sleeping soundly in his own bed roll. He was dreaming about flying in the night sky and making aerial cartwheels with the stars. Joury leaned down and gently moved her son side to side.
“Aeos, wake up.”
The son of the two dragons opened one eye. He then closed it again. He was still pretty sleepy. He muttered something incoherent. He got another shake from his mother then woke up.
“Morning Mama.” He muttered drowsily. Aeos was usually good at waking up in the morning. He’d been waking up either at dawn or pre-dawn for a majority of his life. There were days when he wanted to sleep in. Or days where he did sleep in, usually it was when he was sick or if he had been doing something in the night. Such as flying.
He sat himself upright then yawned. It was a loud and semi-obnoxious yawn. Which got him a firm glare from his mother. He was still kind of groggy and didn't realize how rude that was.
“You yawn like an ape!” She commented.
“Huh? Oh.. right.. sorry mama. Forgot to cover my mou--” He cut his own conversation short with another yawn and the stretching of his arms. The woman rolled her eyes and shook her head. Just like Yasin. Joury thought to herself before pulling away from her son’s den and back out towards the animals. Her task was to collect the eggs out from the chicken coops.
Aeos pulled himself out of his cot and stood up. He did a few more stretches so he could get his blood pumping. Yasin returned from his duties and started to gather the needed gear for fishing. He had spears, nets, weights, and rattles made of metal and shells. Yasin’s tribe, before the scouring, were sea people. Nomads of the coastlines. Led by a water dragon, whom by trail of combat, won his right to rule over the tribe. But that was ages ago. Now, the only one who remains of the tribe was Yasin.
Joury darted back inside with a basket of eggs. Aeos followed his mother in and sat down at the table. The family settled down to a simple breakfast of tea, flatbread, and fried eggs. Once, the family's appetite was sated. The two men got up and got ready. They gathered up their fishing gear and headed out into the city. They would return to the small shack in the evening. Or after they caught enough shark to fill the stew pot. Whichever came first.
Joury would spend the morning doing house work. Cleaning, washing, drying. Once that was out of the way would she head out into the city to purchase what she needed. She'd buy fabric to mend her sons clothes. Spices and some meat incase the men were unsuccessful. Last thing to buy was feed and freshwater.
By dawn the men were out to sea. Yasin rented out a small row boat. It was large enough to hold their fishing gear and we'll as the two people's. Aeos was in charge of rowing the boat out to sea. Yasin was in charge of navigation. As they rowed along the water, the older of the two dragons threw out an old fishing net into the water. They would come to check on it later in the day. Yasin found them a quiet spot on the water and went to work. He handed his son one of their special sea shell bells. Which was really just a metal ring with various ringlets made of seashell and various metals. Aeos knew what to do. He held the ring in one hand and then dipped it into the water. He began to shake it. He shook it against the boat and under the water. The noises the shell-bell made was supposed to simulate the sound a fish made when distressed. It looked like a strange practice but it was one that worked. From the side of the boat, a single, familiar fin, poked out under the water’s surface. Yasin prepared himself. He judged the size of the shark to be about four feet. It was more than enough to feed the family of three.
He took his main spear, which had a hefty rope attached to it. He waited until Aeos drew the shark closer and then struck at the creature with his harpoon. He did not kill it. But the spear tip pierced through the shark’s skin and flesh and hooked on. The creature started to swim away in distress. But Yasin wouldn’t let it. He grabbed the end of the rope with his hands and started to pull. He would pull the shark back to the boat. This time it was Aeos’ turn to take the spear. He grabbed another one of their harpoons and waited for his moment to strike. He drove the spear into the shark’s head. This stunned it but it did not kill it. Yasin continued to pull on the rope and eventually drag the creature of the deep onto their tiny boat. Aeos had to hold on to the boats end and act like a counterbalance to avoid having the thing tip over. The creature started to flail about but Yasin grabbed a club and bashed the creature's’ head until it stopped moving.
Once they deemed the shark to be dead, they sat back down on the boat and started praying. They thanked whatever ocean spirit or god that allowed this shark to be caught. They swore not to let the animal be wasted. And prayed that the shark’s spirit would forgive them for killing it, so that it may find peace in the next life. When the praying was over, they slowly made their way back to the sea-shore.

The father and son duo returned their dingy back to the dock. The shark was brought back to the shore. Aeos washed and cleaned the gear. He would have to return to the sea in order to pick up the fishing net left behind. Yasin spent a considerable length of time on gutting the shark. Unlike humans, Dragons could eat every part of the animal. Except maybe for the guts. The family seemed to have a preference of not eating shark intestines and stomach just due to the sheer amount of parasites it might have. But the heart, liver, and meat were fair game. The entrails would be returned to the ocean for other fish to feast upon. The older of the two dragons worked to flay the animal. He threw the cleaned organs, meat, skin, and teeth into separate buckets. The father and son duo would return to the home and prepare it for dinner. Or rather prepare it for various dinners. The meat would be preserved in salt. The skin would be sold to the local smith or tannery. And the organs would be cut, seasoned, and thrown onto the cook fire. It was important to eat the organs first as they were the quickest to rot. The jaw and teeth would be boiled and later separated from one another. Joury liked to make jewelry out of the teeth. As well as filing them down to make needed sewing needles or brushes for the animal hairs.
The boys washed up, ate a light lunch, and returned to the city. The shark skin was sold and now they had a small bit of pocket change to spend on something sweet. Vendors from all over Elibe gathered to Khan Yunis to sell their wares. The duo first went for the produce stands. Looking around at all of the fruits and vegetables. Aeos picked out an apple for himself, while Yasin grabbed a pear. They munched on the fruit and continued their way through the town. As they walked from one end of the city to the other they started to talk. They talked about things related to life. They talked about food.
And by the time they returned to the docks, they were talking about Aeos and his dragon half. These intimate conversations were spoken in dragonic. And it was in this native tongue that Aeos was fully able to express his frustrations, his joys, his bonding, his friends, meditation, hopes, and dreams. He told his father all of it. And Yasin responded in kind. He understood his son's frustrations. The feeling of entrapment, and fear of the unknown. Yasin was both uncomfortable and hopeful of the idea that at least one human out there knew of his son's true form. He was oddly calm about it. Unlike, Joury he liked to take a step back and observe how things played out. Joury would have raised more of a fit. He advised not to change anything. Yasin believed that Aeos, his little ‘amal, was doing fine on his own. His son was making his own decisions, his own mistakes, his own path in life. His own experiences. And that filled Yasin with pride. It also filled him with frustration that he could not magically solve, and relive Aeos of his own internal turmoil. This is what it was to be a parent.
They went back for the nets, which happened to be mostly empty. That was fine for now. The shark was more than enough to sustain them for today. Aeos and Yasin spent what remained of the day light collecting shellfish for tomorrow's breakfast. --- Next Day.
The family was up early. The shellfish collected yesterday was cleaned, cooked, and consumed. Yasin left early to find more fish for dinner. This left Aeos alone with his mother Joury. Aeos loved his mother. He loved her dearly. But, Joury didn’t see Aeos in the same manner as Yasin. To Joury, Aeos was always going to be her little boy. No matter how old or how tall he got. Aeos counted himself lucky. He knew that this world was full or orphans, full of children with abusive parents, or of parents who had lost children. And he was grateful for his folks. He wasn’t sure what he would do if they were gone. So, he smiled softly and endured this minor humiliation. Today, was the day he’d be dragged around the city acting like his mother’s own personal pack mule.
Aeos and Joury spoke to one another in their native language. Joury expressed some concern over her son’s travelling. She had always opposed Aeos going out into the world. She was one who suffered greatly during the scouring and never seemed to recover from those psychological wounds. She’d occasionally look behind her to make sure that her son was still with her and not off wandering through the market stalls. This brought back several memories for both mother and child. In the early years of his life, Joury would take Aeos through Khan Yunis.
She’d take him to the local archives and help him learn his letters. She remembered how she would help her son trace the shapes of the letters in the sand. How he would read stories of the ancient times out loud to her. How she’d teach him how to count and use basic mathematics. Their time in Khan Yunis was limited to a few months a year. Books were a rare thing for the family to have. And books were some of Aeos’s favorite things. Some years they avoided the city, altogether out of fear of someone catching on that they hardly aged. So their time together in the city was something special between mother and child. This time it was Joury who spoke to her son. She voiced her worries, her fears, and her wishes, onto her son. And Aeos responded with his own answers. He told her how he managed to overcome certain challenges as he traveled. How he had gained strength through trial and error. He told her of the world he had seen. And his version of Elibe was a very different version of Joury’s Elibe.
Aeos was distracted by a small shiny piece of jewelry hanging from a vendor's stall. There were several items on there that caught his eye. Joury didn’t like to wear jewelry. She said that it brought too much attention to herself. Aeos wanted to get something nice for his mother. But he wasn’t quite sure what. He managed to find himself back at the fruit vendors and bought a half a basket full of blackberries. These were an expensive but delicious treat. And they were some of his mother’s favorite fruit.
Joury grabbed her son by the arm and dragged him away from the stalls. The pair bought what they needed and returned to their tiny home. The two of them worked around the hut doing various chores and repairs. Aeos finally got his clothes repaired and changed back into them. He smelled them and realized his mom managed to wash them with lavender. Aeos put the basket of berries on the table. And so the two of them spent the better part of the afternoon eating blackberries and laughing at how it turned their mouths black. Yasin returned in the afternoon. He had with him some cabbages and potatoes. It seemed that he had poor luck with the fishing today. Joury quickly turned the potatoes and cabbages into a hearty stew.
Aeos expressed that he wanted to make something nice for one of his friends. He told them how Gar made him a necklace of a boar tusk and he never got the chance to return a gift with a gift of his own. He thought of making him a bangle of some sort. One that had a design of the sea or of a sailboat. The family reasoned that if Aeos could get the materials needed to make the bangle, that they would make the bangle. The older dragons had plenty of experience with the forge. It was one of many professions that they had in their millennias of living. Aeos agreed to these terms and would use the rest of the time he had here in Khan Yunis to find the materials.

Aeos spent his days in Khan Yunis doing odd jobs and helping out his family. A routine emerged where he and his parents would comb the beaches at the morning low tide looking for shellfish. Sometimes they found more than just crabs and clams. Sometimes, they found pieces of rope, old nets, driftwood, and the occasional stray coin. They even managed to find a few oysters. One had a tiny oblong shaped pearl. This helped to boost what little they earned. Aeos’ afternoons were spent in the city. Working where he could to earn some more coin. His lunch was spent on the docks. Either he bought a little lunch of bread or fruit from the vendors. Or his mother would come out and bring him something to eat and drink.
He knew what metal he needed to make the armband or bangle with. Bronze was the metal of choice. The metal was known for having various rust-resistant properties. And it seemed to be a good fit for one who worked as a sailor. Copper was the basis for bronze followed by tin. Nabata imported these metals from other cities so the prices of these pieces of metal were a bit higher than most. But that did not deter the young dragon from his goal. By the end of the third week he had managed to acquire enough gold coin to buy the needed materials from the vendors.
The last week of the shark migration was spent at the forge. Yasin and Joury worked together in order to combine the copper and tin into a suitable ingot for them to work with. Aeos job in all this was to bring them whatever else they may need from the outside. Food, water, tools, he helped by being useful. It wasn't long before the arm band was completed.
It was well crafted and had a nice design on it. Joury carved into it a design of a boat on the ocean waves. She used some of the larger shark teeth to act as the ship’s sails. And used a jagged series of shells to look like the ship. Crushed blue and black shells were added into the armlet to give the appearance of the ocean.Wavy swirls where chizzled in to further represent the ocean. Her art style in creating the waves looked like something done from the ancient past. It wasn't realistic like some portraits or statues of royalty and saints. The half of the armlet that was not part of the ocean was left alone. In order to give the appearance of a boat sailing either at dawn or sunset.
Aeos was happy with it. He praised it as the best thing ever. As any child would when a given something new. Even though it was something that was simple. It was still nice. And his folks worked hard on it. Perhaps the best thing, Aeos thought about it, was that it was something that was worked together as a family.
Aeos eventually had to pack up his things and return to his travels. Joury and Yasin had to return to their nomadic life. Their time in the rental hut was up. And they did not want to upset the owner. The sharks had also moved on. The family packed everything they had onto three stubborn camels. The family spent one last meal together. Talking, promising, and reminiscing with one another. As cheesy as it sounded Aeos did appreciate every moment he had with his folks. By afternoon, each was on their own way.
End Thread.
