It'd been a while since Veles had hit up a proper city. Villages and towns were all lover the place, especially in Lycia, but cities themselves were rare. Mostly just the city-states that marked the center of whatever fiefdom you were currently in. Pherae for Pherae. Louse for Louse...or was it Laus? Eh, pretty much pronounced the same anyway. Still, Veles had always enjoyed the unique experience a city held compared to a mere village. Way more entertainment, shops, so forth. Could get a little crowded but hey, a small village could get a little lonely!
Besides, once again, Veles had the luxury of company as opposed to simply traversing a busy city all by his lonesome. The...quiet little thing he had mistaken for a corpse on their first meeting. She made a damn good recovery thus far, Veles wasn't entirely certain if she was 100% or not, but even then the fact that she had survived as long as she did showed she was one tough customer.
“And if you look just ahead here...” Veles began with a small smirk. He stepped off the stone path, oooh, stones, fancy, and threw his arms out towards the gates in a far bigger display than what was required. Not quite a city state. Okay, really it wasn't a REAL city. Just a larger village. A super village. Villageus Maximus. The deadbeat dad of the last village they had been in. BUT it had some iron gates to bar off the main path into the village, and some respectable stone walls that surrounded it. The walls were only about as tall as Veles, but still, pretty impressive stuff. “Our destination awaits. A city...thing. Well, Lycia's attempt at a city. An effort was made.”
Veles crossed his arms and cocked his head to the side. He...only knew so much about his current companion. She was damn good with a knife and quite possibly immortal. Pretty objective, not too much of a talker. More importantly was his lack of overall information on her experiences. Was she used to cities like this? From the sounds of it she uh, was more accustomed to madmen and monsters than civilian life.
Boy did that sound familiar.
“Just through those gates our client should be in a tavern. We're to follow him into the cellar, where he'll start giving out the real details of this job.” Speaking of the job in question, Veles was rather intrigued. A lot of the details that their clients uh...front-man, had given him, were very vague. It was supposed to be some sort of retrieval mission. Sounded dull as hell, but the secretive aspect of it was what enticed the man.
Plus it made for a good excuse to get Lethe more familiar with the world Veles knew. Beyond the murder part. She clearly figured that much out on her own.
“You ever been to a proper city before? Trust me, they're a lot different from sleepy old villages.”
