If Aurora was to get on the good side of the people and spread the word that her people are not a threat to them she needed to get noticed. She could easily just remove her cloak to display her exotic features but that would not serve the purpose she wanted. Her best bet would be to do work for them. This line of thinking had brought her to Cornwell, the guild capital apparently.
The city was already better than the smelly docks she had arrived on a ways back. It was rather bustling too. All around her men and women of all ages carried weapons and tomes of a great variety and even shape. One of them she could swear smelled of magic. It was just so overwhelming and exciting. She was giddy. Would she eventually work with the likes of them? It was a fascinating prospect and she was quite hopeful. People were just so varied and interesting.
As previously directed she bounced into a very grand building that was, as they said, used for registration or something? She did not understand it herself, she just knew people asked for help there. There were so many flyers and things with written word she felt so overwhelmed. She really needed to learn their strange scribbly snakes. Why could they not just use the same markings as her own tribe? It would be so, so much simpler, she thought. Oh well she sighed.
She approached a man behind a desk and greeted him with a wide beaming smile. "GOOD DAY SIR!" the man winced at her enthusiasm and volume.
"G-good morning mam. How can I help you? Are you here for registration or to join a guild?"
"NOPE! I am here to take on a daring quest! To aid those in need and spread word of my good intentions across the land!" She motioned theatrically as she explained herself drawing more than a few curious eyes.
"Er, right. Well, do you have a party? I can't give you a job if you're all alone, goes against policy."
"Policy?" Aurora stared at the man blankly showing her complete lack of knowledge.
"Policy, it means a course or principle of action adopted or proposed by a government, party, business, or individual." the man explained.
"I KNOWWWWWWW what a policy is!" She argued defensively. "i just didn't know you had any policies..."
"This is a business girly, and what business does not have policies?"
"Ah, well... I don't really know anything about businesses honestly."
"Clearly not girly, now I do not have time to give you a class on economics so please shoo off or get a team together for me." He dismissively waved her away as one would a foul odor.
At a loss Aurora left dejectedly with her ears flat. It was then she heard a voice. "Pssst! Hey! Reject!" Looking over she saw a man waving her over. Remembering the thieves back at the port and Orcleous's warnings she cautiously obeyed.
"Yeeeees?"
"You need a job, I need a merc. You have no team and I have no money, but I do have food." The man explained.
AH! Finally! A concept she understood! No more clinking metal but real food! "Okay! What do you need me to do?"
The man's face seemed to light up at this. "You're interested? Oh thank you! Have you ever faced a bone-walker?"
"Can't say I even know what that is."
"Well, they are what the researchers are calling walking skeletons."
"How apt."
"One seems to enjoy coming to my farm every night and killing my cattle. It never enters my home or stays, it just kills and leaves. I can't make a living like this on just crops. So if you can get rid of it, I will pay you in food, and if you want coin I will pay you as soon as the main harvest goes to market. I swear it!"
"You will give me food to get rid of a walking CHEW TOY!?" The question came as an excited exclamation. "You have a deal sir! This sounds like a cinch!"
The man smiled at Aurora but it was hesitant.
