Gaius had just wrapped up a job, a simple one that required him transfer some supplies from one place to another but this time he was a flying mailman. Most people would probably find doing a job like that was unbecoming of a man of his past and supposed standing but most of those people wouldn’t know the situation the man was in. Jobs like these were fine, it was better than being another sword for hire and going off to either kill some person he didn’t know or guard someone with deep pockets. These jobs just consisted of him going from one place to another on Phantom, great.
The rider was making his way through the marketplace, grabbing some supplies for his next trip. With the extra little pocket change that he made he was going to buy Phantom a little treat. A fine cut of meat would be great for the wyvern and how much he was putting up with Gaius’ jobs that required him to fly for long hours on end. Speaking of the wyvern, due to his size and the fact that this town didn’t see wyverns too often, Phantom was laying out in the open near the stables waiting for his rider.
While shopping he began to notice a large group of people forming together in the center of town. He could hear shouting coming from the center of the mass of people which piqued his interest enough for him to check it out. Once getting closer he found that people had gathered around what looked like a missionary. He spoke the usual rhetoric about doing good acts toward your fellow neighbor and believing in whatever god and being faithful. The missionary then moved on to talking about the current state of their beloved country Lycia.
He blamed the reason as to why they were in suck a conundrum due to people’s faith in their god dwindling and them being punished for it. Gaius had heard just about enough, only stopping on his way away from the group when he heard the man begin to speak about the epidemic of children going missing in this town. Apparently the town had been plagued with this for quite some time now. When Gaius asked one of the townspeople about it they explained that at night children have suddenly been disappearing. It’s gotten to the point that the town has been rounding up able bodies to find out what was going on.
Gaius waited around a bit longer until the missionary was done with his spiel. As he was about to leave another person took his spot. A scarred man was now asking for anyone who would help them in their quest to find the missing children. He even specifically called out whoever was the owner of the wyvern figuring they would be a strong fighter. Gaius was relieved he didn’t know who the owner was as he wasn’t particularly in the mood to be volunteered for something against his will. He did however figure he was going to think it over at least.
