Thria, the city state of gems. In the times of trouble that have fallen on Lycia there are very few constants. Fortunes shift and war ravages the land. The hordes of monsters continue to plague the region and small villages begin to disappear off the map. There is one staple however, and that is the wealth of Thria. The city state of gems always has wealth and wealth, unfortunately, attracts monsters. When I say monsters in this sentience I don't mean giant spiders and walking undead. When I am speaking of the worst kind of monsters, man. Bandits have always been a problem in the region. With the new threat of monsters added there presence has multiplied. Currently a group of cuthroats have become bold with the appointment of there new leader. They attacked and secured a mine located on the outskirts of Thria territory. They figured the city state would be to busy to dealing with other mines and monsters to send a proper force to weed them out. They thought wrong. Not on Sargent Batta's watch.
"Alright listen up mercenaries", spoke a burly man with blond hair and a green bandana. The man wore your standard guard armor and carried your standard spear. However the size of his muscles and the fearsome scar going down the center of his face set him apart from your stand alone guard. The man radiated power and respect.
"I am going to be brief since most of you know what is going on. The bandits have taken over two stones mine. We are going to go in there and weed them out. The guards will attack the bandits from the southern entrance and force them out toward the north. The mercenary force will wait outside for the bandits to flee and then engage them in combat. Your jobs are to keep them contained and slaughtered till we arrive. Once we come out the other end we will hit them from both there rear and front flanks and finish them off. It should be noted however that the bandits have been rumored to have rigged the mine to collapse in case of a invasion. If you feel a strong terimmer don't worry. We have made preparations with mages with Gia tomes. We may be a bit late, but we will make our rondaview point. Direct any questions you all have to Lila", spoke Batta as he walked away from the group. Taking his place was a crimson haired maiden clad in white armor. She had a two handed axe strung over he shoulder and a look that meant business.
"So now it is bandits", spoke Wei as he sat in the crowd. He looked on as his Auntie Lila gave another one of her war speeches. To be honest he could care less. What he really wanted to see was his father, but the man had already rode off to meet up with the rest of his forces.

Appius stood among the crowd of mercenaries, somewhat close to Wei whom he had worked alongside only days ago. Yet the dark-skinned man stood more off to the side of the group than most due to his trusty camel, Zaahid, at his side. Not wanting to take up any unecessary space that could be filled by a man. The pack of camping gear atop an orange carpet which lay upon Zaahid's back shifted in place as the tall mount spat onto the grass beneath it. Zaahid was taller than most horses, that was for certain, yet slower. Mainly serving as a pack mule for his master.
It could be noted that there were some murmurs and stares of both curiosity and bewilderment at sight of Appius' steed, as camels were naturally not native to Lycia. Though common to those of Nabata, to the mercenaries which had traveled less it was rather surprising. Appius, all the while, was undisturbed. It was a given that he would receive this sort of reaction, yet what held higher priority was the job at hand. His mother's words on practicality and the way of the warrior resounded within him, giving the saracen some comfort.
However, while the speaker before him spoke of similar principles, Appius' atrention was drawn elsewhere at the seight of Wei within the crowd. He recalled the boy having thanked him for his protection and decided to speak, yet keeping his voice somewhat hushed so as to not disrupt the speaker. "You there. Wei, correct?"

As his Aunt dragged on Wei thought he was going to fall asleep. The women sometimes talked to much. Everyone else however seemed to be enjoying it, but not Wei. A few of them even looked exited, but once again not Wei. Wei was nervous. It was not for himself. Wei had been fighting against monsters and whatever else the world had to throw at him. He knew battle and he knew what it felt like to be on the losing end. What bothered Wei today was the fact that his father was in battle, and in the most dangerous role at that. They said that they made preparations, but what can a mage do with a wall of earth falling on you. Wei had a bad feeling about this battle and as a result he did not feel pumped at all.
"Wei", that was the only word the young boy heard. He turned his head to see a familiar face staring at him. Appius, thought Wei to himself. "Damn it", Wei cursed under his breath. He had promised the man that he would be stronger the nest time they meet, but it was only a few days later and they had crossed paths again. Wei was technically stronger, but not really. So essentially, Wei had broken his word.
"Appius", spoke Wei aloud as he began to move his way though the crowd. He received a few mean looks, but the boy shook them off and moved to his destination. "Appius", spoke Wei as he streaked out his hand to greet the man. His eyes then moved to his strange animal and then stayed there for a good moment. "What in the world is that", whispered Wei as he began to walk toward the camel. It was the first time he had seen such a creature. The very sight of it amazed him.

Appius had went to extend his hand towards Wei as the boy did so, yet lowered it upon seeing Wei's attention fall upon the camel standing by his side. Despite the the Lycians' looks of confusion, Appius had a very nonchalant expression when focused on Zaahid. Unlike many mounts, the camel lacked elegance or an aura of grace, instead appearing rather tired and nonchalant as Zaahid smacked his lips together repeatedly, as if chewing something. Yet all that seemed to be within the camel's mouth to consume was its own coarse saliva. "This is Zaahid," replied Appius, "my hump-backed companion. And a faithful one at that." The man raised his right hand, stroking the left side of Zaahid's neck. However, this was followed with little to no reaction from the camel aside from a brief focus of the eyes upon its master.
Looking back to Wei, Appius returned to his usual scowl. "I am glad we have met once more, Wei. Perhaps it is the ancestors' will." He looked out unto the crowd which had formed about the speaking woman, still perplexed as to why he and the rest of this group had not moved out already. Standing about and dawdling had no purpose. Yet he was no one to preach his ideals to those that were paying him, despite the grand irritation it caused. Appius' gaze fell back upon Wei. "Last we met you had said you would grow stronger. It pleases me to see that not much has changed. Though it is of little concern, I personally would enjoy to see such growth."

"What", shouted Wei trying to play it off. It took Appius words to pull the young man's eyes away from the beast. "I have totally grown stronger. Just because it has not been that long does not mean that I have not put on any muscle. Just you wait till the fighting starts! I will show you just how strong I have become." As Wei finished talking with Appius his aunt finished her speech. The mercenaries gave off a loud cheer and then began to move out. They needed to be in position once the guards started there attack.
"It seems like the pep rally is over", spoke Wei as he looked at everyone moving out. "I need to go before I am noticed. Still once this is all over you have to tell me more about Zaahid. I have never seen a ... a ... whatever he is before."
"It is called a camel", spoke a familiar voice from behind Wei. The young journeyman tried to run, but a stern grip on the back of his jacket held him steady. The women who was talking, Wei's crimson hair self appointed aunt was holding the boy by the collar. "Thanks for skipping out on my speech runt", she spoke as she placed her hand in his hair and ruffled it up.
"hey let me go", shouted Wei as he attempted to break free. His attempt was in vain as Lila far outstretched him in strength.
"Give up squirt", she spoke as she turned her gaze toward Appius. "Sorry about my nephews prying nature. I am sure he is a handful."
"Excuse me, but I was ..."
"Commander", shouted a voice rising above Wei's complaints.
"Right, I will be there in a minute", she shouted back. The maiden suddenly released Wei and began to walk off. "Keep to the third row and keep your head down", she shouted toward Wei as she moved to take care of business. "Find me in the field once everything starts!" With that she vanished into the dense pile of moving mercenaries.
"Dang it", fussed Wei as he attempted to fix his hair. She did not have to do that, and in front of Appius to. Here he was trying to argue that he was a warrior and she was treating him like a four year old. "See you on the field", spoke Wei as he speed off. His face was as crimson as his hair.

"Hmm." Clearly, there was friction between the two family members. He would expect as much from siblings, but not a mother and son. Though it was not as if he was to judge. He was but a bastard and his mother had been in a much different situation. So perhaps this was the normal Lycian way of family life. Though Appius, as always, had his doubts. Tugging along Zaahid by his lead, the man followed after Wei. Zaahid spat upon the ground as Appius did follow along with the column of hired soldiers, perhaps in a show of detest of these people. And Appius knew all too well that this was true. For camels only spat when they were agitated. And knowing Zaahid, Appius understood that these large crowds of people were new to him, especially ones of armed men.
But as Appius went to stroke Zaahid's neck once more, the camel seemed to calm itself, if only a little bit. "Be at peace, Zaahid," Appius said to his steed. "Our battle has yet to come. And it is then I will need you to be alert. So do not waste any thought on our allies here." While the camel could not communicate verbally, Appius somehow felt that Zaahid undestood, now continuing along in fear of being called out for straggling behind.

"Man Auntie is becoming more and more troublesome to deal with", whispered Wei to himself. His self monologue was interrupted however with the furry of commands. The mercenary commanders began to order everyone into position around the Northern entrance of the mine. Wei, not wanting to follow Lila's commands, placed himself in the second line of soldiers. He was going to go with the first line up, but he figured she would see him. Before the fighting even started she would pull him out and treat him like a four year old. He was a mercenary dang it, not a play thing. Still that was a argument for another day as the signal from the southern end of the mine told them that the guardsmen had begun there operation.
"Alright lest see if these brigands are worth all the trouble", spoke one mercenary as he tighten his hand on the hilt of his blade. Fighting could be heard in the distance as the guardsmen moved in. Then there was a great rumble in the earth and a lot of screaming. Though all the confusion a single bandit rushed out the northern entrance. He was covered in dirt and dried blood and had a wound just above his eye. Hobbling out the man took a look around, the mercenary force was still hidden at the moment and as a result the man could not see them.
"The coast is clear", shouted the man as he looked back into the pitch black mine. He then began to run for the tree line. The first group of mercenaries held there positions behind the trees. The man ran right by them as other brigands began to emerge from the darkness. "Quickly before they swing around", shouted the bandit as he turned around to relay his message clearly. It was then that he saw the first and second line hiding behind the trees. The man opened his mouth to yell, but a arrow from behind him soon silenced him.
"Now attack", shouted Lila! On her mark mercenaries began to pour out of the woods like ants. Wei, joining in on the fight in the second Line, rushed toward the confused brigands. Despite having the element of surprise the brigand attacked first. His axe lashed out at Wei attempting to take the young joureneyman's head off. Wei ducked underneath the surprised brigand's blow. The shock had left him reacting off pure instinct. His swing was to wind and as a result Wei was able to get in easy. With a swing of his twin axes Wei was not only able to disarm the man, but he managed to get a clean cut across the man's chest. His chainmail stood the test however and blunted most of the force. Still Wei drew blood and for the first time in a long time Wei had the advantage in a fight.

The clang of metal on metal sounded from the front of Wei, closer to the cave entrance yet only slightly. "Aaaaah! It's useless! Useless, useless, useless," shouted a much thinner bandit than the one Wei fought! This one bore two sabers, supposedly made of iron, in each hand. His black tunic and gray long sleeve shirt beneath told of his affiliation, however. A mere commoner having sided with the bandits. His twin blades clashed against Appius' shield, held at a standstill only briefly before being shoved back by the force from behind his opponent's targe. It was quite obvious this man was of the more irritable variety. The violent shouting being a dead giveaway.
Appius drew back his scimitar, swinging down vertically unto the bandit with his curved iron blade. Yet Appius' metal was met with his opponent's as the man raised his twin sabers in an x-shaped cross to block. The length of Appius' sword found itself snug between the intersection of the agressor's two blades, the dual wielder chuckling at seeing Appius in supposed submission to him. "Heh. You've-!" But the brigand was cut off as, now with his sword in control of both of his opponent's, Appius forced the man's two blades down to his left side before sending a strong push kick to the bandit's chest with his left curved-toed boot. "Good grief," murmured Appius at the lack of his opponent's experience in swordplay. Even a child knew that dual swords were but a fool's tool. Regardless, now disarmed, the brigand was sent sprawling onto his back due to the awkward position he had been forced into by Appius' blade when hit in the chest.

"Damn Brat", shouted the bandit as he brought his left hand into the battle. With a powerful back hand blow to Wei's jaw the brigand was able to create some space between them. Now with the shock of the sneak attack gone and Wei finally drawing blood the brigand was back into his game. He began to assault Wei with a series of wide but powerful swings. Wei would have ducked under them, but the angle and speed made it impossible. For two heartbeats Wei simply moved backwards to stay out of the range of the axe. The brigand began to feed into this. For him victory was near. He pressed harder and more violently attempting to take Wei's crimson head. By the third heartbeat Wei had adjusted. As the man swung with a third powerful swing Wei swung both of his twin axes upward with everything he head. The axe head meet each other in the air and to Wei and the brigand's surprise Wei's weapons won the day. The twin axes knocked the brigand's weapon back leaving him a bit exposed.
"Alright time to finish this", shouted Wei as he rushed in for the kill. The young boy swung first with his brave axe. The weapon cut though the air lighting fast due to its low weight. The axe found it's mark and impaled itself into the shoulder blade of the bandit. The ugly man, and trust me he was ugly, screamed in agony, but kept enough control to counter attack. With a fearsome left hook to his jaw. The blow rocked Wei giving the man the opening he desired.
With a fearsome swing the brigand brought his axe toward Wei in a diagonal slash. The young fighter was still shaky after the blow to the face. The axe came across with all the hatred the brigand can muster. Wei attempted to lean back, but his timing was off. The axe head slicked though Wei's protective jacket and the padded arm armor underneath it. The attack left a slash on Wei's chest, but the blow was not fatal. Wei could still fight.

As Appius raised his scimitar once more to deal his final blow to the novice, a whirring sound came from past the tree line, yet it faded into the background in Appius' mind. Unfortunately so; as an arrow came forth, shrieking through the treeline, and striking Appius' collar. The mercenary lurched back, having been stricken just above the front plate of his cuirass. He wheezed, bloody mucus springing from his mouth in doing so. Yet, luckily, Appius was able to retain his balance. A bloody patch continued to spread across the top of his breast where he had been stricken, avoiding having been killed by a shot to the neck.
But there was more in store for Appius. The swordsman who had been knocked down previously was a swift one, utilizing the time in which Appius was stricken to grab one of his sabers from the ground, now standing at his full height before going to swipe down at Appius' vulnerable bald head.
Appius raised his targe, the impact from his opponent's targe against the shield rippling through him all the way down to his chest. Inevitably, it pained the arrowhead within him, the concave tip only tugging at the saracen's chest. The pain made Appius unable to effectively use his swordarm, instead opting to hold out against the novice with just his shield for the time being.

Crap, thought Wei to himself as blood began to seep from his wound. The blow was not to deep, but it would bleed for a while. He wanted to pull back and tend to his wound, but his opponent was on him. The brigand, now seeing blood, was advancing rapidly. His axe cutting in from different angles trying to find a weakness in the boys defenses. His battle furry however worked against him as his recklessness left openings in his attacks. With a wide swing Wei sprung into action. The journeyman ducked under his attack and got behind the brigand. With a swift strike from his brave axe Wei cut the back of the man's knee cap. The blow caused him to fall to his knee. Before the man could even move Wei was striking again, a advantage gained by using the agile weapon. The young Wei delivered another blow to the back of the man's head. The blow caused the man's body to quiver and then fall lifeless into the mud.
War raged all around Wei, but for a moment his world stopped. He had won. It was his first time killing a man. He had fought many times since he left home, but he had never actually killed a person. Monsters, sure, injured people, sure, but never killed. Wei would have let it sink in more, but a swift arrow brought him back to reality. The bolt bounced off another mercenaries shield and clipped the side of his face. The blood and the sting of pain brought him back to reality. Wei looked around as the battle raged on. Man against man, mercenary against bandit. The chaos was in full swing now as the lines meshed into a brawl. it was in that moment that Wei noticed something strange on the battlefield. Appius the man who had saved his life before was now in a bit of trouble. A bandit had him pinned down on the ground and was moving in a attempt to take his life.
"Appius", shouted Wei as he charged forward. The young fighter did not even bother to use his axes. With everything he had Wei slammed into the bandit using his body as a weapon. He knocked the man off his friend and tumbled into the blood soaked earth. The brigand let out a curse and pulled himself off the ground ready to strike out at the young fighter. Wei, injured, but pumped full of adrenaline did the same. His twin axes ready to answer the call of battle.

Appius was actually standing upon the dirt rather than lying on his back, but he was in trouble nonetheless. Wei having rammed right into the novice opposing his associate, Appius was given time to recover his sword from the mud. Dirtier than it had been before. It was odd seeing his scimitar slicked with mud, as the saracen's blade had only ever felt the touch of sand and the wood of its owner's scabbard until now. Not to memtion the flesh of those it had befallen. Though, despite Appius' appearence, that was not many men.
Appius did not hesitate as the swordsman rose once more before Wei, his thin black mustache stained with the ground he had been jnocked down to. Yet as the novice raised his saber in rage at Wei, a crack came from his neck as Appius swung his targe's metal rim right into the side of the man's throat. Falling to the ground, his esophagus now indented so that breathing was near impossible, the swordsman drooled blood from the side of his mouth as he now passed onto whatever afterlife may await him.
Appius now turned his attention to Wei. The man's brow was furrowed, yet not angrily. It was almost as if he was saying thanks; but in a warrior's way rather than verbally. Though Wei may not be all too used to this aspect, Appius seemed generally pleased at having been saved. His pride seemed uninjured at receiving aid from such a young man.
Yet there was little time for celebration, as another arrow whizzed through the treeline towards both Wei and Appius. Lunging forward, Appius extended his targe to stop the arrow right in the air with contact from the wood of his shield. He was sucessful in this, now looking back down at Wei as the saracen faced the edge of the trees through which the brigands advanced. "Come. We fight as one."

Holy crap, thought Wei to himself as Appius finished of the brigand. He could have been in real trouble, but the aid of an ally ended it. In a way Appius had paid him back. A save for a save. The man gave him a slight jester that told Wei enough. He was thankful for the assistance. This was a battlefield after all. As Wei pulled himself out of the blood soaked mud the brigands continued there attack. There numbers seemed endless to Wei. They just kept coming out of the mine and joining into the battle. Arrows soared toward them at alarming numbers. Appius however was ready and blocked the incoming projectiles with his shield.
"I need to get me one of those", spoke Wei as he stood up to join his friend in battle. It was almost like a slap in the face. Why had Wei not thought about it before. The axe had poor defense, so why did he not use a shield. What in the world was he thinking this time. The only reason the really famous axe users did not use a shield was due to them needing both hands to fight with there massive weapons. Wei uses one handed axes. So why not use a shield. Either he was going to get a shield after this battle or use a bigger weapon, that was decided in Wei's mind. Duel wielding, thought cool, was ineffective. Most of the time he relied on one axe.
"Alright, then!" With that Wei charged towards the incoming enemy. The young red head was not the only person charging toward the bandit lines. Several other mercenaries moved to fight. The battlefield was turning into a blood bath as both mercenary and bandits blood stained the ground. As the brigands fired there arrows off toward the mercenaries the mercenaries fired back. Bolts lunched into the trees and entrance to the mine and chaos ruled the day.
As the battle raged on Wei approached a eager bandit. The man was wielding a lance instead of your usual axe. He stabbed forward hoping to run Wei though. The boy however twisted his axe and caught the lance with his weapon. Rather than try and break the weapon Wei simply grasped it with his free left hand and left a opening for his partner to come though. As he did so however another brigand moved to join the battle. He was not going to simply watch as the boy's ploy went off without a hitch. With a axe held high he rushed in to fight.

Appius initially moved to follow through with Wei's plan, but upon seeing the other approaching brigand with his axe held high, was forced to formulate a differwnt strategy. Then, after only moments of thought, Appius went to hop unto the shaft of the lance which Wei had locked into place. In reaction to the weight of Appiu' armor and body, the spear snapped in half, but not before the saracen could launch himself upwards and towards the oncoming fighter. This caused the solldier who had once brandished his lance at Wei to recoil, looking at the boy and his twin axes with fright. It would seem that, without his spear, he was not the most confident.
Meanwhile, Appius' scimitar pierced the breast of his target. He almost made it look efortless to do so, forming a clean cut all the way down to the top of his opponent's abdomen. While some may say his skill witha sword was the reason behind the fluidity of his motions, in truth it only was partially responsible. The curvature of Appius' scimitar made it different from the standard sword. Whle its concave shape did make cutting much easier, it also made piercing an opponent near impossible when it came to thrusting. Luckily for Appius, this was a situation in which slicing was called for.
Shocked by the sudden induction of pain, the fighter fell back due to the weigjt of his axe. Unlike Wei's weapons, this was one of the many more bulky two-handed axes. Glancing back towards the boy and his now disarmed attacker, Appius looked back to the recovering brigand before speaking indirectly to the journeyman. "Wei. Say something cool; let him have it."

In a feat of pure amazement Appius showed off a feat of pure amazement. As Wei held the spear Appius was suppose to come in and cut down the brigand. However with another opponent moving to kill the young lad Appius sprung into action. He hopped off the spear, snapping it as he did so, and jumped at the incoming attacker cutting him across the mid section. The move was down right amazing and took the words out of Wei's mouth. "That was amazing", shouted Wei. His attention however was soon snapped back to his opponent. Without a full spear the brigand was at a disadvantage. However that did not stop him from attacking. He understood that if he did not push forward he was dead. The mercenaries were there problem at the moment, but he remembered the guardsmen were at there back.
Dropping the shaft of the lance the brigand pulled out a blade he kept at his side. It was clear from his stance that he was far out of practice with it. However it meant very little against a opponent like Wei. The journeyman rushed in swinging with his left hand axe first. His goal was to get a idea of how the man fought. What caught him by surprise was the fact that the brigand was skilled with the weapon, or at least in his eyes he was. With a flick of his wrist he deflected Wei's left hand assult and moved to make a strike of his own. Wei jumped back and created some space between them.
"Wei say something cool and let him have it", spoke Appius as he looked back at Wei. A smile crossed the young boy's face as he thought back to a previous fight he had.
"I am Wei ahead of you",he shouted! With every fiber in his body Wei let off a fearsome roar that seemed uncanny for the boy. The brigand, not fighting with the weapon of his choice, felt a bit intimidated. Naturally he moved forward to strike at the boy rather than let him attack with a rage. This was a mistake as Wei leaped into the air with uncanny high.
"What the", spoke the man as he stared into the sky. Almost in perfect alignment the sun was behind Wei's back as he came down with his blow. If the man would have had his spear he would have held it out and let the boy impale himself on it. However this time he only had a blade. The sword was not long enough. Wei's axe came down first with the rest of Wei's body. The blade slammed into the man's shoulder taking the strength from his arm. The full Weight of Wei's body came crashing down on him as the boy sent the man to the underworld.
"Was that cool", spoke Wei with a smile. Suddenly however a arrow slammed into Wei's shoulder as a bandit archer fired from a distance. The blow had enough force to knock Wei onto his bottom.
