Name: Selunae Velsonne
Aliases: Lunie, Lulu. Selunae almost always introduces herself as Lunie. Only people who personally know her family would know her by Selunae. Also, Lulu is a more intimate nickname that she tolerates from her parents and close friends. Under almost all circumstances, strangers will not know the name Selunae.
Class: Hunter > Nomad
Age: 15
Birthplace: Bern - Lucerne outskirts
Father: Raeger Velsonne
Mother: Elle Velsonne
Adopted Sister: Delia Langrunden
Appearance: Selunae stands at a somewhat short 5' 4" and is trim and athletic in build. Her crimson hair tends to be kept short, as the moment it begins to get in her face, she cuts the offending strands at the first opportunity. It never makes it to her shoulders anymore. Her complexion is rather fair, and beneath her emerald eyes her cheeks are dotted with a scattering of freckles. She has a single small, straight scar on her right cheek. She credits the mark to a scuffle with bandits, though it really came from a careless accident handling an arrow.
Selunae dresses in a simple red sleeveless tunic with a light breastplate of leather that offers little in the way of protection but allows her to move unhindered. She also wears a violet pareo around her waist over white leggings and a pair of leather boots with a red trim at the top that matches her tunic. A leather bracer adorns her left arm and a glove with open fingertips is fit snugly on her right.
Personality: Selunae can be impulsive at times as she proves when her hair gets in her face. She is also impatient and the combination of the two can lead to rash decisions and poorly thought out plans. With her youthful exuberance, she tries to play cute to squirm her way out of any trouble that her impulsive nature gets her into ...with varying degrees of both success and failure.
She's more brash about her skill in archery than what is merited, due to a few lucky shots on hunting trips. She is, however, untested in combat and is nervous about the day she'll face living, breathing opponents though she'd deny it vehemently if asked.
Overall she is typically friendly and happy to make new friends though she is a bit wary of Ilians in light of the recent war.
History: Selunae is the daughter of a woodcutter and a seamstress, named Raeger and Elle respectively. She grew up in the rural outskirts of Lucerne in a small cottage. It was always Elle's intention for Selunae to take up sewing, but Selunae quickly grew bored of it the moment she discovered how painful a needle could be once jabbed into one's fingertip. Instead, she took up fishing at the river. Those sharp fish hooks didn't feel any better than the needle did when she mistakenly baited one with her thumb. Thus ended her illustrious fishing career at the ripe age of 11. In tears.
A young hunter named Deen was happening along at the time and he tended to her wound. He was 16 and Selunae instantly developed an 'older boy' crush on him. She began to follow him around like a puppy and begged him to teach her archery. Keeping it a secret from her parents at first, she'd spend hours each day with a bow and when Deen was around she never left his side. Deen lived on the other side of Lucerne, and wasn't around as often as Selunae would've preferred, so she made the most of what time she could get with him. They were both the only child of their respective families, but while he saw her as the kid sister he never had, she saw him as so much more. Once she showed him how great a hunter she was going to be, he would have no choice but to love her back. It wasn't long until, in the midst of such daydreaming, she managed to poke herself in the face with an arrow. This led to the immediate discovery of what she'd been wandering away to do, and the subsequent forbidding of it from her mother.
Ordinarily the injury alone would have been enough to deter her from continuing the pursuit of hunting, especially with her distaste of being punctured by sharp objects. The forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest though, and Selunae made the impulsive choice to sneak away in defiance. Her ever-growing feelings for Deen had a lot to do with that as well. In the meantime her parents were too busy to keep up with her; wood was in high demand due to one conflict or another on any given day and Elle spent much of her time in the city. With the lack of interference from her parents it wasn't long before Selunae joined the local hunting party. At first she simply carried gear for the experienced hunters but in time she was allowed to take part in the hunting as well.
With her first hunt, she made the best kill of the entire hunting party. With sweat beading on her brow and aim that was as steady as the town drunk at last call, she released the arrow and let it fly and though her arrow sailed over the deer she had been aiming for, it struck fatally into a fine stag that she had not even noticed behind it in the distance. When she returned home, she had an arrogant confidence but was surprised when Raeger was already well aware of where she had been. He had known all along and had been covering for her.
In the following two years, Selunae continued to hunt while Raeger made sure Elle was none the wiser. Of course, local gossip of Selunae's exploits reached her eventually, but by this point Elle was simply glad that her daughter had found a trade she succeeded at. All that mattered to Selunae, though, was the praise she received from Deen. She had improved slowly and steadily, and her spirit soared with each kind word he said. It was too good to last though.
When the Bernese rebellion flared up, Deen and a couple of the locals left to join the fight. Had Selunae known it would be the last time she'd see him, she would've kissed him. Instead, she began training herself for combat with the hopes to join as well. Luck had kept her out of harm's way despite constant conflict in Bern, but Selunae was ready to cast aside that life of peace to follow the man she loved. She'd also heard rumors that the leader of the rebellion, Aidan, was mysterious and handsome. It was not as if she needed any more encouragement, but she had hoped to catch a glimpse of him and find out for herself.
Raeger had a stern lecture waiting when his huntress daughter announced her intention to join the rebellion, and it was finally reluctantly agreed that she could leave when she was 16. However, the Ilians withdrew, surrendering to the rebels before that ever came to pass. Selunae waited anxiously for weeks for Deen's return, eager to hear tales of the heroics he'd doubtlessly committed in driving out the Ilian army. It wasn't to be, and as Selunae slowly accepted the reality of war, her spirits sank to an all time low. Finally Elle was able to get Selunae to open up about why she had suddenly become so depressed. Selunae's mother then casually mentioned that Deen's girlfriend had been inconsolable when news of his death reached his family. Deen had a girlfriend the entire time. Selunae's throat closed up on her and her mouth became dry. This revelation hurt much worse than news of his death. Unable to speak, and with no idea what words there were to say even if she could, she ran out of the house. Her mother stared, bewildered, as Selunae disappeared into the night.
In a whirlwind of anger, jealousy, and heartbreak, the tempestuous Bernese huntress fled home in tears without a word of notice to her parents or anyone else for that matter. She felt stupid, felt used. She didn't know where to go, but she couldn't stand the thought of spending another day here. Spending most of her meager savings on gear for a journey she never actually put any thought into planning, she left Lucerne with merely the thought of finding somewhere else she could be a hero since her homeland no longer needed saving.
NPC fight: The man standing before her held a well-worn axe at the ready. This was really happening. This ugly, old, bearded brigand was going to rob her. She didn't have anything of value, so this situation could only get worse if she didn't act quickly. With panicked thoughts racing through her mind and her heart pounding in her chest, she backed away while nocking an arrow. With a shaky hand, she released the arrow as he charged. Her heart stopped and she cried out in shock as she saw the arrow strike the man in his arm.
There was a grunt of pain and the axe dropped to the ground and, before her would-be assailant could recover it, she turned and ran fearfully. It had been such a big mistake to leave home.
PC fight: Selunae stared defiantly into her opponent's eyes, hoping that she didn't reveal how afraid she was. The mage didn't seem to be very much to behold, but truthfully, magic terrified her. The tremble in her stance was a dead give-away. Try as she might, she couldn't steady her hand as she took aim at the robed figure that served as her target. She bit her lip, trying to use the pain as a focus to ward off her fear, but her bow still shook like a tree branch in the wind as she let loose the death grip she'd had on the arrow, sending it flying towards the man before her.
