After all that, the shaman was planning to escape into the night. It would have suited the huntress fine at first. After all, he’d attacked both her and Ito earlier. She seemed to remember it clearly, and aside from that he had already declared an allegiance to Ilia. A resistance of some sort. Selunae had no idea what that was about, and wasn’t in a hurry to find out. It probably wasn’t a big deal anyway. Whether Bern was an enemy of this resistance or not, she hadn’t actually joined the military and no longer had the intent to do so. It seemed moot to ponder on potential hostile intent there, but then why did she so vividly remember him attacking? The memory befuddled her.
Dawson’s warnings of Draco and his talk of other minions, especially Black Dog, troubled her too. For one of them to beset the spellcaster so far out in the middle of nowhere was alarming to her. Truly, if Black Wolf could find him here, then nowhere would be safe. Certainly the next could be watching them through the trees even now, waiting. Should one of them notice the nature of the wounds in Black Wolf’s corpse, it wouldn’t be hard for them to pin this on her. The teen girl shivered reflexively and crossed her arms, peering out into the horizon. She knew it was a futile endeavor in this fading light, but she scanned the area all the same. She was nervous, scared even, and now Dawson was intending to just walk away like nothing happened. Not today! She didn’t rely on the Ito’s argument to sway Dawson, not when she something of her own to say about it.
“I’m confused. Ya keep tellin’ us ya don’t want ta get us involved, but then ya lead that Black Wolf guy right to us? And now that we’re involved and already in danger of his friends comin’ after us and all, yer just skippin’ out on us? And right after you tried to kill us with that big book of yours too?” Selunae shot Dawson a scathing scowl. “Yer either super irresponsible, or ya really are tryin’ to get us killed. But, fine! If ya wanna go, then just go! If ya didn’t notice, Ito’s not got a weapon anymore. So before ya go, why don’t ya ‘magick’ his sword back together? Use that big book and those fancy magic words and fix it, ‘cause if Black..whatever shows up, I don’t think Ito can just settle up with an arm wrestlin’ match. ‘Sides, way I see it, ya owe him a new sword anyway. ..Well?”
Selunae had become pretty worked up. She’d thrown caution to the wind and spoken far louder than she had intended. Dawson’s actions were just so shady, though. With renewed zeal, she attempted to spot any potential lurkers in the trees as a heavy breeze rustled the branches around them. As luck would have it, a large leaf blew free from its branch and the gust of wind guided it to the archer’s arm as her attention was focused intently on the distance. Instant panic. Selunae yelped with a start.
“It’s got me!!” she frantically cried, leaping up from Ito’s back and stumbling forward a couple of steps before laughing nervously at the realization of what had ‘grabbed’ her. “That so didn’t happen!”

Dawson sighed. He knew that the young archer had a point there, Ito was pretty much defenseless without a weapon and there was no way that the young archer could handle any kind of attack by herself regardless if it was one of Dracos other minions or even a bandit. Yet he couldn't just stay here and risk putting them in even more danger. Yet, he knew that leaving them here would also be sentencing them to their deaths.
"Alright...fine. I'll stay for the night, but like I said before. Now that Black Wolf is dead, there's no way that Draco will ever find out about your involvements with me." Dawson said. He then sighed when the young archer mentioned Itos broken sword and magic. "I'm sorry, but my magical capabilities just don't work that way. I hate to be the one to say it, but you'll need to go to town and either get your blade fixed, or buy a new one" He said as well. Dawson reached into his satchel and pulled out a small bag of coins and handed them to Ito. "I apologize again for getting you two involved in my affairs. This should hopefully be enough to cover for a new blade, if not, then purchase a new one..." he said finally.
Dawson then looked around at the mess that was caused. "Well...since we'll be staying for the night, does anyone object to...moving our camp to someplace else? I don't feel comfortable staying here with that" Dawson said pointing to the dead body of Black Wolf.

Ito sat still, listening carefully as the huntress perched on his torso began her outburst. I guess I didn't seem very convincing. The girl's rant led on for a few moments before taking an interesting turn. Ito thought she suspected something of Dawson, but now he knew she remembered. Dang. I was hoping to avoid that. Just don't hit him back now, you did that earlier. She brought up some good points, and after the shaman's short response it seemed as though her thoughts on the matter were much more convincing than the swordsman's.
Ito, for some odd reason, had to suppress a small chuckle as the girl flew from her perch in shock, at a falling leaf. Instead of laughing, or even smiling at the least, he sat up. Dawson then came over and handed him some coinage, which Ito placed in a small pouch on his belt. It would stay there for the time being, and as the shaman hoped, Ito too hoped it would be enough for a new sword. Completely calm, with a slight amusement painting the undertone of his voice, Ito spoke. "I won't tell anyone that happened. Unless, of course, you go around spreading my secrets...
Lunie, what do you think? Should we move the camp to where we planned in the next clearing over, or find a different one completely? I've put up camp in worse places than here, though I usually wait to sleep until I can't travel further on foot. This one's up to you."

“Oho! So the log finally gets up,” the huntress grinned a little, “..and I have no idea what yer talking about. That didn’t happen. At all. ...but yeah, I don’t really wanna go campin’ with corpses. Anywhere we can’t smell them’ll be fine though. As far as my feet go though, I’m pretty done with this walkin’ thing for the day. I’m all for dropping at the first place we can sleep for the night,” Selunae accentuated this statement with a yawn as if on cue, a long yawn that gave credit to just how fatigued the huntress was.
“But first…,” she declared, letting her actions finish the sentence in place of words, the actions in question being to rummage through Black Wolf’s pack. There were things in there she didn’t understand, namely written orders, and other bits and baubles that meant nothing to her as well. What she needed was food. None had been offered yet, which meant there was either none to share or none that would be shared. Finally her hands lifted what she was looking for. Black Wolf did have to eat just like everyone else even if he was a weirdo from some oddball cult after all. Carefully wrapped were several generous portions of dried meat and… was that.. cheese? Selunae’s eyes lit up with delight. After all, unless you were wealthy, cheese was a rare treat. A quick squeal of joy escaped before she could stifle it, and the archer quickly stuffed the morsel of cheese into her mouth.
Noticing that she had garnered the attention of both Ito and Dawson, she tried to quickly dissuade them from investigating the matter.
“Ith nuffing,” she suddenly called out rather unconvincingly, quickly chewing as if one of them might make her spit it out if they knew. Sadly, there was no more cheese to be found in Black Wolf’s belongings so she also felt a little guilty that she hadn’t shared, not that anyone had offered to share any food with her either. Having obtained what she was after, Selunae walked back towards Ito.

Dawson couldn't help but let out a slight chuckle at what the young archer did. He could have swore that she took something from Black Wolfs supplies, but he decided to let it slide. After all, he was tired, she was tired, Dawson was fairly certain that everyone was tired. "Well...I'm up for wherever" he said. He finally put his flux tome back in his satchel and stood up.
He looked around calmly to observe the environment himself. Though it should be true that no one will know that Ito and that young archer was involved with Draco, I still feel concerned for them. After all, I did just cause the destruction of the only defense that Ito had against anything and not to mention, the young archer would never handle anything by herself without dying...After I spend the night, I'm heading out... Dawson thought. He couldn't help but feel concerned that they were being watched, but shook it off. He knew that Black Wolf was stubborn and prideful and wouldn't let anyone, not even Black Dog follow him for any missions that he was assigned.
Dawson looked back in his satchel to see what he got. All he had was his tome, Black Wolfs regal axe that he was taking back for the resistance, his second vulnerary, and what looked to be some half-eaten bread that he was munching on during his travels. "So uhh...I guess we'd best find some supplies to start our fire?" Dawson asked.

"Of course it was nothing. Didn't even notice anything suspicious. At all."
His tone was lighthearted, though he suppressed his expression to the chilling calm of before. In the growing dark, the swordsman's features seemed to take on a grim shadow that only harsh experience would provide. Another hint at who the myrmidon really was, perhaps, displaying signs of just how much he had been through.
As the huntress approached, mouth full of cheese, the swordsman spoke again. "Perhaps we would best make camp in that clearing we chose earlier, just a ways through the trees to the west of here. Couldn't be more than a hundred and fifty metres or so, eh? I think we picked up some firewood while Dawson and I were there before this Black Wolf fellow came by."
Ito gestured to the west, looking briefly from Lunie's eyes to Dawson's before softly nodding once and stepping in the direction he motioned to. Much of the day's light was failing them, as night's fall began to quicken its pace. The swordsman increased his own pace as well, reaching the new clearing within a shorter amount of time than if he'd slowly cantered over.
As he'd remembered, a nice collection of firewood was scattered in the clearing. Time drew short as the sun's light began to fade, the shadow of night slowly falling over the forest. Ito gathered what he needed from the wood there and began constructing a fire. If there was one thing he was good at, aside from holding a terrifyingly good poker face, it was starting fires.
A small pouch on his belt was opened, and a flint and steel was withdrawn. A leftover from the time his life was saved by a troubadour, who wandered much like he did. It was a pity they disagreed so much, though Ito supposed it was his fault. Isn't it a pity, isn't it a shame. How we break each other's hearts, cause each other pain.
Within minutes and several carefully placed logs, the fire was blazing. Settling down against a tree, The Log spoke to whoever would've followed him to the clearing. "You go ahead and settle in for the night. I'll keep watch and the fire going. I might not have the same range or be able to stab things as well, but my blade still slices and slashes just fine."

Selunae had followed the two men to the clearing where they were to camp. She chuckled nervously at Ito calling her out on the lamp-shading but swallowed before he actually had a chance to figure out what she was eating, or that she was eating at all really. Dawson’s humor also gave away that he hadn’t bought her lie either. It mattered little now, she’d gotten away with it. She so loved cheese, it was easily one of her favorites. Her father would bring it home for special occasions. Maybe it had been a special treat that Black Wolf had set aside for when he completed his mission. Now, it was just a prize for sweet sweet victory.
Selunae had made a light meal of preserved meat by the campfire, sharing Black Wolf’s provisions with Ito and Dawson as well. There was enough of it to go around after all. They all shared a silent, if somewhat wistful, moment of silence around the fire before each of them settled in for the night. There were few words, the huntress was exhausted beyond words and almost fell asleep immediately upon curling up by the near the fire. Dawson hadn’t lasted much longer. Even stoic Ito, with his resolve was eased into slumber by the soft glow and radiating heat of the fire before too long. It was perhaps a perfect ending to the day’s hardships.
Sadly, it wasn’t. The trio of ragtag adventurers awoke to find roughly thirteen bandits scattered around their campsite. Most wore ragged scraps of leather and iron armor and wielded an assortment of weapons in similar condition. Most prominent was a stark figure sitting on a stump near the cold remains of the campfire. He was a muscular figure wearing blackened steel and unlike the others, it all matched in one complete suit. An elegant steel long sword rested, laying across his lap as he watched the adventurer’s wake up one by one.
Selunae slowly stirred, yawning and rubbing her eyes before sitting up to look around. A morning fog had rolled in and the horizon around her was gray, but it didn’t hide the fact that she was surrounded. No less than seven bows were trained on the slumbering adventurers. Panicking and not really knowing how to react to this, she first reached for her bow only to hear a callous voice warn her.
“There is no need for that. I’d leave it there if I were you.”
The huntress turned with a start to the source of the voice, noticing the armored swordsman now. She gave a panicked glance to Ito first, and then to Dawson, not sure what to do this time.
The man cleared his voice, and spoke calmly not to any one of them in particular. “Now then, it seems you and some of my boys had a little misunderstanding. It happens from time to time, and I’m willing to look past that. Keldus was a bit of a bastard from time to time after all. However, it seems that you have cost me three of my men and there are conveniently three of you here. I could easily have all of you dead if I so desired, but there is another solution here. Join us. Three lives for three lives. Take all the time you need. I have all morning,” The man glanced between the huntress, the myrmidon, and the shaman.
The huntress tensed up, at a loss for words. She knew there was no way they could join these bandits but equally knew that there was no way they could fight their way out of this either. Tears welled up in her eyes as her will slowly drained.

Misunderstanding? Pff. The only misunderstandings were the fault of those brigands earlier.
Ito stood, fists clenched and eyes locked on the man in the matching armour. That man had a lot of words, but Ito could handle that. The myrmidon stepped forward, walking slowly towards the bandit leader as all eyes fell on him. The bowmen tensed as they waited for the command to fire, hands fell to the hilts and handles of swords and axes, yet no command to halt Ito's breathtaking advance. The sounds of silence occupied the clearing, and it seemed that even the birds shut up to observe whatever may unfold.
The deep breath, before the plunge.
Ito came to a halt, just a few feet from the man in black. "Those three were foolish enough to try mugging an innocent, defenceless little girl. Even the scummiest of brigands I've come across wouldn't dare touch a child." His calm demeanour was offset by the serious nature of his voice. "It's a damn shame you expect three to pay for their wasted lives. If anyone's to blame it would be their mothers, you bastard. I don't think you're inclined to that, though, so I'll take the blame. You can check the bodies yourself if you don't believe me - I took each of their lives. Any fatal wounds were delivered by my blade, and my blade alone."
The myrmidon's gaze spoke nothing but the truth. As the words came out, his voice was filled with emotion; a big mess of it. Sadness, grief, sorrow, anger, contempt, negative passion on every imaginable level. Ito was letting himself out, and it was becoming apparent. His brow began to furrow and his fists were clenched tighter. Then, a voice spoke up from memory. Was that... Luci?
You can't fight it all, Ito. You're not ready yet, to take this all on yourself. Just pace yourself, and you'll make it one day.
She was right. Ito couldn't do it all yet. Not on his own. That left only one option for him, that he could see.
His grip softened, he stepped back twice, and his statuesque expression returned. His tone lightened, though it was already apparent that his feelings were extraordinarily tumultuous.
"Take me, and only me. The girl would've died had I not stepped in, and the shaman was only passing by long enough to lend me some help in setting up a camp and helping the girl recover from what happened. Let them go, I'm the only one that's got any quarrel with you."
"Am I not worth more than those three I slew, considering I stand alone before you while they lay dead by my hand?"

Dawson groggily opened his eyes from the commotion that occurred around him. Fear then took hold of him for a second. No! Draco couldn't have found out about us already and surrounded us did he?! he thought. As he sat up, he could see that it was only bandits...apparently part of the same group of bandits that attacked the young archer earlier. As what looked to be the leader of the bandits spoke, Dawson analyzed the situation. Damn...too many of them to take on by myself...The young archer would get killed or taken and Ito still has his broken blade! Damn these bandits for showing up now! Dawson thought. He tried to reach in his satchel when an archer beside him fired an arrow on the ground next to him. "I wouldn't do that if I were you, you heard the boss did ya? Next time, I won't miss" the archer said as he nocked another arrow and pointed it at Dawson.
That was when Ito started to speak. Dawson could only watch as the swordsman seemed to offer himself up to the brutes. No! Ito what are you doing! You can't do this! Dawson thought. He so despretly wanted to say that out loud as well, but he remained silent. Once again, it felt like being back with Draco Guro all over again. Here he is unable to do anything about what is unfolding as yet another person is taken hostage and pressed to join their group. Dawson could barely contain his own anger as he clinched his own fists at what is transpiring ahead of him. He wanted to yell out, he wanted to cry, he wanted to release his anger on the bandits in front of him. But all he could do is watch as the bandits took Ito as their "own".
Dawson could only wait in silence to see what the leader will do now that Ito presented his own offer to them. I swear Ito, I swear on my own grave that I will not rest until I find a way to rescue you from these brutes, even if it means that I must give up my mission to defeat Draco Guro. I will not let this happen again! he thought. If the bandits let them go, they will make the biggest mistake of their lives to cross with him. He then thought of the young archer. He couldn't help but frown slightly. Poor girl...she's been through a lot in less than a whole day. First, almost killed by these bandits, then almost taken and/or killed by Black Wolf, and now cornered by these brutes again... Dawson thought.

With fear in her eyes, Selunae listened as Ito rebuffed the bandit leader’s claims. She couldn’t believe this was happening, especially the numbers that had gathered here. They seemed to just be a group of nobodies, the trio from the evening before but it was certainly much more serious than the resolution had made them out to be. Maybe Ito had taken their lives, but it was her fault it had come to this. Perhaps had she simply told the bandit she had nothing of value, there could have been a peaceful resolution. If this man could be calm and reasonable, perhaps those that had died could have as well. The man that had approached her even suggested that he’d let her go, but she’d fought him instead. Now she had brought all of this not only upon herself, but on Ito and Dawson as well. Hot tears stung her eyes and streamed down her cheeks as she bore the full weight of guilt herself.
“Ito.. don’t..,” the huntress weakly protested, barely loud enough for her voice to register but still muffled and indistinct where no one could hear the words. Much more distinct was the whiz of an arrow flying to her other side. With a startled cry, she turned to what she assumed would be a dying shaman. She was relieved to see that he was still unharmed, though it didn’t bring them any closer to escaping this nightmare.
The leader had remained still where he was seated, staring intently into Selunae’s eyes as Ito had spoke. Something about her reaction had his attention. “Ah yes, this is the part where the wandering hero preaches morals to a man who has none. If this girl was a mere child, she would be home with her parents, would she not? If she is responsible enough to walk my territory alone, then is she not to be accountable for my toll as well? You may spurn these men and speak ill of those who gave them life, but what of you who took that life from them? Does their end fill you with pride? Will you recount their last moments to impress some trollop in a tavern in the next city you chance upon? Or.. did you end them to impress this one?” The man turned his sharp blue eyes on Ito, gauging his reaction before continuing. “I’m not a very proud man, but if you believe that your ability to take three lives before they were able to take yours grants you the merit to be worth more than them, you are a deluded fool. When I look in your eyes, I see hollowness and death. This girl, her eyes hold hope, passion, fire, fear, and pain. Even the mage holds passion in his eyes. I’m looking for fighters, not killers.”
The man ran his hand across his short black hair, and decided to probe for an answer he already seemed to know. “You may have indeed been the one who dealt the final blow, but who struck the first?” His gaze turned back from Ito to Selunae, who recoiled at the eye contact, shrinking away from him and slowly retreating to Ito. The huntress was terrified and stricken by the man’s words, knowing that he knew her guilt in this. “Exactly.” The man smirked faintly, his point proven. “I’m not here to negotiate with you. I have spoken my terms. Three lives for three kills.”
Selunae wrapped her arms around Ito and cried. She didn’t know what else to do.

"I am no hero. Wanderer, yes, but I am not worthy of any heroics. Children run from home all the time - and do they know better until they've done it once? The responsibility again falls on the shoulders of those who care for them, and in this moment, that is me. You wish for accountability from one who cannot be held accountable, who's inability to be held as such is simply because of inexperience. The death of a man is no light thing, no matter of pride to me. I take no joy in this, and my actions are not to impress anyone. You would be foolish to think someone like me takes pride in my own actions against these men."
Ito hoped silently that he'd used this lapse in the man's speech effectively. The bandit leader seemed to pause and think over Ito's reaction before he continued.
Who does he think he is? Actually... who do I think I am? At least this man understands. The first, really, to see what really is there. Nothing, nothing is there in me. I am without purpose, so why do I stand up for these two? Am I not just a hollowed out person, with nothing left to live for but death?
The man finished speaking, and Lunie pulled Ito into her embrace with tears flowing. She was afraid. In truth, Ito was too, but no one knew that. Not yet, anyways. Ito placed his right hand gently on Lunie's shoulder, looking down at her and silently attempting to comfort her before responding to the bandit.
"You would be the first to recognize the hollowness and death for what it is. Everywhere I go death seems to follow, like a stray dog you've fed once or twice that comes back wanting more. I am unsure of who I am, of my purpose in this world. Am I a fool? Maybe. A killer? I wouldn't doubt it. I do know, however, that these two here can still save themselves from what I've been through. All my life has death surrounded me. From the closest family to the dearest friend, I've lost everyone. These two haven't, however. That passion, the emotion you see that they have, don't spoil it. By taking them, you'll only extinguish the fire behind their eyes. You would find no fighters among this group but me, though it seems to you I am more of a killer than a warrior. Should you not spare these two it'll be as if you'd lost five of those you label 'fighters', rather than just the three I've taken from you. I realize you've laid out your terms, but you must recognize that I've set down mine as well; and like you, I'm not here to negotiate."

Dawson continued to clinch his fist in anger. No...I won't let this happen again...I've seen it happen with Bee already being tortured by Draco...I won't let Ito be taken and tortured by these bandits, especially the girl! he thought. He then looked up in anger and yelled out "ENOUGH!" as he looked around to see surprised looks on most of the bandits that were around him. He wouldn't be surprised if Ito and the young archer were also surprised.
"You want someone to replace them? Then fine...Here is MY offer, take me and ONLY me. Leave the swordsman and girl out of this. You truly want me to join you? Then fine. I will refuse to fight for you if you push those two to join you however. This is my deal and you WILL take it!" Dawson finished yelling as he breathed heavily. Those bandits makes him sick to his stomach. Their almost as bad as Draco and his minions, forcing pretty much ANYONE to join regardless of who they are. He eyed one of the bandits in anger and yelled out "Well? What are you waiting for? Are you going to take me or not?" The bandit looked at the leader, clearly nervious.
Dawson then turned toward Ito and whispered to him "No matter what happens to me, do NOT let those bandits take the girl. I have seen too much to let this happen to her. Just please...do this much for me, if not, then for her" He then turned to the young archer and attempted to give her a reassuring smile. "I will not let these brutes take you..." he whispered to her as one of the bandits finally stepped up and tied Dawsons hands behind his back and pushed him forward to the leader.

The bandit leader had heard enough. He didn’t feel like he was being taken seriously, and if there was any one thing that annoyed him, it was giving an ultimatum and having someone try to negotiate. Gripping the handle of the sword haphazardly resting on his lap, he stood, allowing the tip of the blade to fall to the ground as he did. The blade undulated in a pattern of waves, marking it as a flamberge. The man also wore a lance strapped to his back that became more apparent when he stood. “I don’t care about the past, my interest lies only in the present and future. As much as I would enjoy debating semantics, morals, and ideals with you, I think the three of you fail to understand your position. Vargas Thragg does not compromise, nor does he negotiate. If the three of you will not join me together, the three of you will die. While you clearly place value on your individual worth, you mean nothing to me alone.” The man gestured a simple hand wave to his right, and immediately there was a blade at Dawson’s throat. “See, I need you to have motivation to stay and serve me. I can’t have you running or turning on me once you feel the coast is clear.”Vargas strolled casually to Ito and seized Selunae by her hair, pulling her harshly away from him. The huntress yelped in pain, but was powerless to resist. As he slowly backed away from the myrmidon to his original position, he tilted the huntress’s head back and raised the blade’s edge to her throat. Almost immediately, a single rivulet of blood ran from the point where the blade made contact. “Please.. p-please..,” Selunae pleaded, “I’ll d-do whatever you want! J-just don’t kill us!”
“Oh, I know you will and so will they unless they want your blood on their hands.” the paladin tightened his grip on the huntress, drawing further pained cries from her. He locked eyes with Ito, grimly studying his expression. “What will it be? Decide, now. Does she live or die?”The bandits behind him all readied their swords and axes, aside from the archers who already had Ito covered from all directions. The terms were clear. Unconditional surrender or unconditional slaughter.

Was Dawson kidding? Gah, who am I kidding? He is absolutely serious about this. as Dawson was being bound, Ito muttered several things under his breath, including " idiot," and, " do you seriously think that's how you negotiate?" There were too many ultimatums now; Ito wouldn't go into shock if the bandit leader thought the trio was just a big joke that haphazardly stumbled around, killing his three men along the way. In truth they kinda were, but regardless of such this was serious business, which the bandit leader soon proved by getting a blade to the shaman's throat with the raise of a hand. Ito couldn't care less about the shaman's fate, but when Vargas removed Lunie from Ito's side he began to care. He wanted so very badly to fight back, to save the girl and be the hero. His heart was being pulled in what seemed like every direction, between the memory of Luci's death, a longing to help Lunie, a need to stay alive, and the logical side that determined his need to surrender, or perish. His right hand had instinctively moved to the hilt of his sheathed sword as it fell from Lunie's shoulder. I'm sorry, Lunie. I can't save you from the bandits this time. The myrmidon's head hung in defeat, as he drew the short, broken blade from its sheath and cast it to the ground at his feet. He held his hands out with his wrists together, as if waiting to be bound and dragged away. " The girl lives, Thragg. Let her be."

Dawson couldn't believe his eyes! He could care less as the bandit leader placed a blade next to his throat. After all, it isn't like he's been in that situation before back when he was constantly being pushed by Draco, Black Dog, and the rest of the people who were loyal to Draco. But this...he knew he wasn't the best negotiator, but it apparently was made evident when the bandit leader then pulled Lunie by the hair. Dawson then looked up, but all he could do is glare at the leader as his blade then ran by the young archers neck.
Is this it? Am I to become one of the things I've hoped I wouldn't become when I escaped Draco? Or worse, meet my end and not only fail to defeat Draco, but fail my promise that I made to Bee and stay alive long enough to see Dracos end? Dawson thought. He then hung his head low, refusing to look back up. "...fine...you..." Dawson could barely make out his words. He refuses to acknowledge that he lost. This is twice now that he's failed.
One of the mercenaries walked up to Dawson. As he leaned over, he whispered in his ear "let this be a lesson to talk back to the boss" he then quickly stabbed Dawson on the side with a small knife. The wound proved to be small, but it still stung. Dawson could only grunt in pain as the knife slide out of the wound. "Next time, it won't be so small" he said as he walked back in his position with sword drawn. Dawson could only glare at Vargus as he grunted in pain, blood staining his clothing.
