This will be used as the catch all for the game to avoid spoilers hitting the cbox.

I'm...very far ahead because I VERY LEGALLY ACQUIRED THE GAME a couple days in advance. I also played it when it leaked in JP over a month ago, but never beat it because I wanted to save the full experience until english release.
As such, I'm quite experienced with the ins and outs of SoV up to Act 4. Feel free to ask me any questions, and I'll either answer as best I can.

So, honest opinions folks, how is it? I've been on the fence for this one.
When I heard the inclusion of having babies and turning them into soldiers was absent I was excited. But, apparently there are no supports at all? That sounds like Shadow Dragon, and I don't hold FESD in particularly high regard.
How does it compare to the other NA Fire Emblem releases? Is it like Awakening and Fates, or is it more like FE's 7 and 8?

There are supports, and they are fully voiced. There are limited support pools for every character, but you can A-rank every support int heir pools.
It's not really like Awakening and Fates OR the GBA era because it is a remake of a very unique, black sheep game in the franchise. Listing all the differences would take forever but basically:
-Weapons don't break nor do they have penalties for stronger weapons aside from potentially higher weapon weight.
-Magic costs hp to use but has fixed accuracy aside from support bonuses.
-Terrain bonuses are enormous and make the fixed hit rates of magic very useful.
-Skills are tied to weapons not characters and are used through activations not rng. You can use them whenever but when you use one you cannot double, and they can't activate on EP.
-You control two armies simultaneously for most of the game but they cannot merge. At key points you can trade items between the two, or on Casual Mode you always have shared inventory.
-You can explore dungeons in a jrpg-ish free roaming style. Encounters in the dungeons still obviously play out through standard FE combat.
Those are the main things but there are others as well.

Is it like Awakening and Fates, or is it more like FE's 7 and 8? I'm still fairly early in it and Ars is the expert here, but to add my $0.02; It's probably the first FE to have legitimately good character interactions, like, actual people talking to each other. FE has always been straight garbage at that outside of a few above average supports in each game, but they blew it away here. Also the first FE I actually laughed at some of the jokes. Something else FE has typically been bad at and went from meh to REALLY bad at in the last few games. Gameplay wise it seems solid, Ars summarized it, it's kinda annoying how many different class-up breakpoints there are and how inconsistent they are with no warning ingame (female and male mages promo at different times, pegasus knights promo at different times than most others, etc) but that's not like, inherently bad, just not really communicated well. Healers are a lot more interesting than in most games, they 'learn' special staves (so say, Faye gets Physic early, while the other cleric gets Warp) that cost HP so you can actually USE them regularly. It's been a lot of fun so far. SO FAR maps haven't been as good as Conquest but not behind by much.

It's set up incredibly differently overall. But man the writing is a highlight! And battles so far are far smaller and shorter but there is more of them so take that for what you will. So far I like it though.

I'm trying not to over-analyze it because I'm enjoying the game so far. I'm still pretty early in it but here are my pros/cons so far.
Pros: - More FE. I'm always down for that. - Character design is believable. Still early but the dudes aren't shredded to the moon and back and the women don't give barbie body image issues. - Dungeon crawl is a nice change of pace and its done pretty well. It's kinda what I imagine a zelda game to feel like. - Obtaining skills from the weapons is interesting. It's something im going to have to optimize on later runs.
Cons: - Class changing is lame. I understand that this is a different style of FE but im used to getting them to 20 then promoting. Right now it seems like that isnt the way to go. Maybe im salty because I wanted Gray to be an axe user. - Magic takes health. Casters are squishy enough without draining their health. I understand that this makes them super back line but I am always hesitant to cast. - My characters' growths have been garbage.

Also, you can't expect to throat punch an archer and take no damage. They can attack 1-3 squares away, well technically it's 1-2 squares but they get an ability right off the bat that adds +1 to range.

I will say that with rings and literally every other magic user having at least one healing spell at some point of the game, + the Saint passive skill that heals nearby allies every turn, the health cost for mages isn't a big deal. Just something you have to consider. Plus its the pay off for magic being unbreakable, having set hit rates, and being rnaged.
Archers pay for this with poor stats (unless you're my Bow Knight!Kliff)
Also yeah, SoV growths aren't anywhere near Awakening and Fates. They're closer to like, FE 7 and 6.

So, I am probably wrong but I just noticed some hints dropped and I have a feeling Saber might be Cantor, Celica's 'deceased' brother. Would fit the mercenary disguised royalty they always have, hair color matches, and such.

The brother in question is Conrad, not Cantor. Cantor is the name of enemy summoners lol
