Once the two girls sat down, Kyra began following Lunie's lead, digging into the food sprawled out before them. Starting with the potato first, Lyra ate about half of it before moving on to some of the toast, and a few bites out of an apple. After taking a few sips of the apple juice, Kyra noticed that Lunie's mood was starting to shift, and she was looking increasingly nervous, until she said that there was something she needed to talk about. A look of concern grew on Kyra's face as she wondered what was bothering her friend so much. Is it related to last night? Or did I do something wrong and noy realize it?
After she finished chewing and swallowing her current bite of food, Lyra looked sympathetically at Lunie. "What's the matter, Lunie? You sound reluctant to say it, but it's just you and me here. You know I can't get angry at you... Now, what's bothering you? Is it about me leaving for the Tournament of Arms soon? Or is it something about your mother..? Oh, nevermind! I should just let you say it to it to stead of blabbering on. Alright, go ahead. I'm all ears." Taking another sip of her juice, Kyra leaned back a bit in her chair, relaxing a bit as she prepared for whatever it was Lunie was about to say.
I hope it isn't something too serious, in addition to what's already happened. I'm sure Lunie can only handle so much in a short time. I guess that's why she's saying this now though, so it does the have to be held in. I just hope whatever it is, I can help comfort her about it, if need be.

“Ah.. well.. I uhh..” Selunae sighed as she tried to construct the sentence. She was afraid to admit her plans to her friend, as she knew that leaving would separate them for a long time. It was a necessary evil though. Her training had come to a standstill with no one possessing the skills she wished to learn. “Master Flint.. well.. he told me ‘bout these hunters from Sacae that fire their bows from horseback better’n I can even do it on foot. I was hopin’ that someday I could be like that, ya know?” The girl stuffed the apple-topped toast into her mouth and took a bite, chewing thoughtfully as her enthusiasm returned. It was such a romantic notion to venture into the world and learn from seasoned veterans a new style of archery. Before she could continue, the archer burst into a coughing fit, bread crumbs disagreeing with the back of the girl’s throat. Drawing a big gulp from the glass of apple juice, she was finally able to continue.
“Sorry ‘bout that. Anyway, no one ‘round here seems to know how to teach me so.. well.. I’m gonna be headin’ to Sacae to find somebody that can teach me. I don’t know when I’ll be able to come back.” That was the part that worried Selunae the most. After the harrowing experiences the girls shared, the archer felt an attachment to the novice and though it was necessary to leave, she didn’t want to be apart. Even if Kyra didn’t get upset about this, it pained Selunae to think of being apart so long. “I.. I just feel so useless out there right now. If it wasn’t for you, I never woulda made it back here. I.. need to become stronger. For both of us.”

Archers? On horseback? That seems crazy, but I guess it could exist. That must've been what Lunie was trying to attempt when we were getting away from that bandit rider last night. I'd gather if she could've honed her skills in that regard earlier, we'd have lost him a lot quicker. Kyra was immediately drawn away from her own introspection as she noticed Lunie began choking on some of her food, but it seemed that she'd sorted it out herself just as Kyra started to get up to help her. Leaning back with a sigh of relief, Kyra waited for Lunie to be ready to continue what she had to say.
Once Lunie finished what she had to say, Kyra was a bit downtrodden. Lunie's gonna be leaving, huh? I mean, I'm leaving for the Tournament, but this is kinda different... She isn't sure when she'll even be back... I understand why she wants to leave though. I need to get stronger myself, so I can impress father, but so that I can defend my friends as well. Lunie and I aren't too different in that regard.
Putting on a smile, despite feeling bummed at the news, Kyra spoke up after a bit of an awkward silence. "Look, Lunie, you shouldn't feel bad for doing this if it's what you know you want to do. I sympathize with what you're wanting to do, and I wanna get stronger too. I think maybe while you're gone, I'll try and figure out what that weird dream meant that I had this morning. I.. I.." Now, Kyra found herself getting choked up as she tried to finish her sentence, "I'm gonna miss you, Lunie!" Rushing over out of her seat, Kyra went and embraced Lunie tightly, unsure if she'd get another chance to do so before Lunie left for Sacae.

As Kyra moved around the table, the archer began to weep. She had been holding up so well too until the novice became choked up. Almost immediately, a gasp was squeezed out of the girl by Kyra’s embrace.“Oof.. can’t.... breathe...” Selunae returned the embrace just as tightly, sniffling as the tears rolled down her cheeks. “I.. I know you’re gonna be leaving soon for the tournament.. but I’m jus’ scared of not being able to see ya again before I leave. I was..” The archer closed her eyes as her voice began to falter. “I.. I was hopin’ that.. t-that you would go with me.. but..” A shudder shook the forlorn girl as she tried to keep the words coming. “I know.. that you can’t. This is somethin’ I g-gotta do on my own. I’m g-gonna miss you so much..!”
Selunae leaned her head against Kyra, laying her cheek on the novice’s right shoulder. She wept silently like this for a few moments wishing things could have been different. Wishing that there had been more time. Wishing that the two girls lived in a happier world where they didn’t need to become stronger. Eventually, the huntress shifted her position to look into Kyra’s eyes with a tearful half-smile. “I’m gonna make you proud. When I come back, I’ll be strong enough to protect you. I promise.” The young redhead pondered on the words she said, wondering if she could really pull it off. It seemed like such a daunting and ambitious undertaking. She wouldn’t allow herself to fail. She couldn’t let Kyra down, not after what they had both been through to make it this far. Hope. She felt hope. Such a strange sensation, considering all the other emotions that had overwhelmed her.

As Lunie's voice started to falter and she started shaking, talking about how shaking he didn't know if they'd see each other again before she left for Sacae, Kyra, tears now streaming down her face, responded. "I understand completely, Lunie... And I also understand wanting to go alone to learn what you need to learn, and I respect that. I wouldn't want to get in the way of you improving yourself, seeing as I wouldn't really benefit at all from the kind of stuff you're talking about."
Once Lunie had said her last sentence about making her proud and not letting her down, Kyra was strangely reminded of her own thoughts about her father after he had died, and his sword was given to her. I'm gonna make you proud... I thought those exact words when I picked up his sword for the first time... Pulling away just a bit, placing her hands on Lunie's shoulders, Kyra smiled. "Don't worry, I'm gonna make you proud too. You'll need protecting just as much as I will, and I'm gonna be sure that I can carry out that task. That's part of why I wanna figure out what that dream meant. Maybe it'll help me grow stronger, if nothing else."
Kyra felt an immense sense of pride in that moment, feeling like she had a renewed sense of purpose after the harrowing events of the precious night. And yet, all the while, in the back of her mind, the words from her dream earlier that morning kept bugging her. Clean... slate... Bern... Lycia... ruins... Well, let's see.. it must be two separate phrases, I assume... "Clean slate" could be one, and "Bern Lycia ruins" could be another, but that still doesn't narrow down the location all that well... Ugh, when I get back to Lucerne after the Tournament, I'm gonna have to look into this further...

Selunae sat in silence as Kyra responded to the declaration with one of her own. The two shared a profound moment of purpose, a deep understanding of what had to be done. As Kyra stared into her eyes, smiling, Selunae began tittering. Just a tiny bit at first, but it was enough to set the novice off as well. Soon after, both girls were giggling like little children.
And so, the two girls had made a pact with each other. Though they were parting ways indefinitely, they swore to each other to become stronger and that they would reunite some day. Before any of that happened, there was a grand breakfast to finish and one final day to be shared. Kyra and Selunae, just a pair of lost souls in Lucerne that had become entangled with one another. They spent the day with lighthearted banter, leaving the trauma of the failed journey to Bonerock in the past, if only for the moment. A trip through the markets, an afternoon relaxing in the park, healing for the burdened hearts.
In the evening, the pair would encounter Alphonz. The young knight was still recovering from his harsh wound, but happy to see that the girls were alive and well. The stoic Ito never made an appearance but Selunae didn’t fret, knowing that she would meet him again someday. Before night settled over the city, the girls ran into Chase, the mage outlining the end of the bandit encounter. Before leaving Lucerne, he spoke of doubling back and assisting Ito with the archer and mercenary that remained after Selunae’s and Kyra’s escape. Everyone had escaped. Everyone was safe. As the day drew to an end, a tearful farewell was shared between the two fast friends. It would be the last time the girls saw each other for a long time. Selunae would return home to an anxious and infuriated mother and an indifferent yet relieved father. Kyra would return to her own quiet home and calm mother. Both girls, anxious of what the new day would bring, would be haunted by dreams. Dreams of betrayal, of swords, and of lands beyond the borders of Bern.
A new day dawned over Lucerne. Time continued ever forward, and life moved on for a group of young adventurers that still had many tales ahead.
