Gar woke up in his quarters. The ship was commencing docking procedures. He took a deep breath. Salty air filled his lungs. That was nice. He exhaled and opened his eyes. The ship pulled into the port of Badon early in the morning. A little before sunrise. Gar took one step onto the gangplank and smirked. The old guard knew who had arrived. The new guard pretended that they knew. Gar had returned to his home town. Badon, the town about freedom and adventure. Gar's crew knew the people here and vice versa. Gar smiled and waved.
The captain scanned the town, it was still early enough to be pretty quiet, but the fishermen knew this was a prime time to get a start on the day's catch. Gar tossed the harbor master a small coinpurse. The harbormaster caught the money snapped his fingers and pointed back completing the transaction. That was all they needed to recognize each other's prescence.
Gar began walking to his destination, his parent's home. They havent seen your new form yet June. I'll probably have to reintroduce you. Gar could sense June's thoughts. That may be true. However, I suggest you prioritize giving Aeos a proper introduction.
Gar talked with Aeos as they walked. "I love Badon. I grew up here. I mean, when I wasn't sailing. I love what it means. What it represents." The captain took a look around to see the type of people Badon was known for. Outlaws, ruffians. " Its about freedom. You know? Anyone could come here. An open port for all walks of life. With slightly less danger then that which comes on the Isles." Gar was aware that Aeos had been to Badon before, they met here before their voyage to Dread Isle. Gar just wanted to share some of his perspective. They eventually left Badon proper and continued walking north through the surrounding area. By now the sun was well into the sky.
The farther they walked, the more affluent the scenery became. A sight that Gar had no particular interest in commenting on. The people here stay wealthy off the backs of others. Gar didn't entirely like that.Regardless, in time they came to Gar's parent's house, north of Badon. The location was in a nice area, but the house was much more modest than the surrounding homes. For some reason, Gar actually felt a bit of embarrassment showing Aeos where his parents lived. Especially after seeing where Joury and Yasin were staying. Gar went out of his way to explain something. " I know how this looks, but my parents weren't born into wealth or anything. They too were nomads at one point. Of the Chaklai. When they left Sacae, my father became a decently successful merchant and moved up here when he settled down." Gar shrugged and turned to the door.
Gar knocked on the door in a certain fashion. The door opened. A middle aged woman with long brown hair stood in the doorway. She wore typical Lycian garb adorned with clear Sacean patterns. She stood there for no more than a second before she threw her arms around her son. "My baby is home!" Gar smiled and returned the embrace.

The trip to Badon was quiet. Quiet in the sense that the trip itself didn't provide any distractions. No mishaps with pirates. To which Aeos counted as a blessing. His mind was still not 100% recovered from the incident with the druid pirates. But, at least he knew he was recovering. The nightmares that were brought about by the attack had lessened significantly since he started this trip with Gar. Talking with his parents also helped too. Once, they were alone, Aeos told them everything he knew. Everything he had done. What he had faced. They did what parents did best. They gave him guidance, solace, comfort, they helped him come to terms with the horrors that he had to do. They told him of an old war story, one he had never heard them talk about. One that brought pain and disgust to their faces. But, even though it hurt them, they told it anyway. They told him of their heartache. And how they rose above it. A story that he would now carry with him wherever he goes.
The dragon was one of the first to wake. He was used to being up before the dawn. This was the time the family would wake up anyway. They'd fight over who used the tent with the toilet. Or who had to be the one to run out and grab the chicken eggs before the rooster realized what was up. This habit of being an early riser translated well into the ship life. And he quickly adjusted his routine to become a useful member of Gar's crew. The dragon in human guise crawled out of his quarters, barefoot as usual. He liked to wander around the trip barefoot. At least for the first few hours of the morning. He grabbed his sandals and lazily held them in his hand. The ship pulled into port and Aeos did the same thing he did when they pulled into Khan Yunis. He spent a few precious moments out on the docks just breathing in the sweet and salty air. Badon's air smelled different than Khan Yunis. It smelled more of the sea and of wood due to all the docks. He could also pick up the faint scent of mist and greenery in the air. Khan Yunis lacked the fragrance of greenery and mist. Nabata's air was always so dry and sandy. But, her people were hardy and diverse. Badon was a bit like that too.
Aeos glanced up at the outline of the city's buildings. Several blocky looking things that he knew were full of people. Full of stories. And these buildings probably have all sorts of fresh food. Something he had been craving ever since their departure from Khan Yunis. The dragon had eaten what rations his parents gave him. And the pickled things he carried were shared amongst the crew. As the ship made its way to port Aeos prepared himself to disembark. He put his sandals on and grabbed his belongings. When Gar made his way off the ship, Aeos joined him.
Gar expressed his love for the city. And Aeos could understand why. Gar had the same love for Badon, as Aeos did for Khan Yunis.
"Khan Yunis is like that too. A big melting pot of cultures and people. It's great!" Aeos spoke as he walked. He hadn't been in Badon since the adventure to Dread Isle. So, everything looked and felt a little new to him. Or perhaps the word was refreshed? He did remember a few of the buildings. They passed by a tavern he liked to frequent because they had some delicious roasted meats. The further they walked away from the heart of the city the less dense it became. Aeos took note of the area they were walking into. Homes were a bit more spaced out. There was more grass on the ground than cobblestone. And there were trees. The homes were a bit bigger too. Aeos tilted his head a bit until Gar explained. He honestly expected Gar to have a home in the middle of the city. Closer to the ports. Not all the way out here. The sailor was brought up from humble beginnings. Gar's parents were nomads once. Nomads turned Merchants turned homeowners.
"It's a lot nicer than where my folks are. But, well you know.. circumstances. Don't worry about it though. I'm glad your folks made a good living for themselves. After all, if it had turned out different, we might not be here together right now." He scratched his chin. Aeos wasn't bothered by Gar's parent's choice of living. Heck, if his parents had the opportunity they would be living in a place just like this.
"I like how it's so.. green." He commented. Then pulled a small flower from the grass below them. He sniffed it for a bit.
"Plants like this wouldn't last a day back in Khan Yunis." Aeos spoke as he pocketed the little flower. He took a long while just staring at the modest home. He wanted to remember this place. Remember it as it was in this moment. Because once enough time passes this won't be Gar's home. This will be someone else's home. A stranger. And all he will have will be the memory of the time where his friend lived here. Before he knew it, the sailor was already at the door. And that's when it hit him. This was the first time he was visiting his human friends' parents. He NEEDED to make a good impression. And he didn't even bother tiding himself up in the morning since he got used to NOT doing that on the ship. Aeos quickly scrambled to make sure he looked at least halfway decent. He made sure his pants weren't sagging. He smoothed out his shirt. And quickly finger-combed his hair before hastily tossing it back behind his head. For once in his life he was grateful to have really flat, straight, borning hair. Once, he felt he was decently comfortable with himself, he took a few quick step up to Gar. He stood a good half pace behind him in case if something jumped out at him like a dog. Not that he wouldn't mind that. Aeos was a sucker for pet dogs. Gar had already knocked. And there was a middle-aged woman hugging him.

There were a couple of sniffing noises. “Phew.” Gar’s mother retreated from the embrace after a moment and began to pull at Gar’s coat. “This thing reeks of salt and sweat, come now let me wash it.”
“Ma, please.” Gar chuckled and managed to deflect his mother’s hands long enough for her to notice he had brought company. “Now who is this handsome young man? Quite the lady-killer I'm sure. It’s been so long since you’ve brought company.” She quickly shifted gears to greet Aeos. “My name is Iva. I am Edgar’s mother.” Gar raised an eyebrow at hearing his birthname again. She reached her arms forward to greet the young dragon with a hug. Afterward, she turned to usher the two men into the building. Gar unclasped the latch on his back and set his axe down near the entryway. If there was ever a place he could feel comfortable being unarmed, it was here.
By the time the two entered the home, a grinning man stood in the living room. The man looked like Gar. He was significantly older, balder, a bit shorter and had the heft of a man who hadn’t been put to work in some time.
“Hahahahar. My son has decided to grace us with his presence. Which godly being do we owe the thanks to?” Gar hugged his father with some pats on the back. He answered the question. “I guess you can thank my crew. We’re sailing to Bern, decided to make a quick stop.” After the embrace ended, the once sea merchant commented on the voyage. “Isles to Bern eh? Brutal.” Iva softly clapped her hands together a couple times excitedly.
She took the initiative to introduce Aeos. “Honey, this is Aeos. He’s Edgar’s friend.” At this point, Iva began to tug at Gar’s coat once again, she successfully got the garment from the berserker. Gar didn’t put up much of a fight this time, he knew his mother’s persistence would win out in the end. As she folded the coat over her arm, Gar’s father stepped forward and reached a hand out. “Names Alivar. People call me Ali. Please, sit down. We were about to have lunch, I’ll make a couple sandwiches for you.”
Gar plopped down on a padded chair, leaving three more open around a small ottoman. Iva left the room to cast aside Gar’s coat and returned to give him a loose-fitting tunic. She sat at Gar’s right side. Gar put the garment on as Ali returned with six ham sandwiches. He set the serving tray on the center ottoman and sat opposite Gar. The berserker grabbed a sandwich. He indicated for Aeos to grab one, to make sure he didn’t feel too uncomfortable. “The way the living room is set, it looks like you’ve been gambling with your pals again. Hahar.” Gar’s father shook his head and sighed. “It’s more like taking money from them. The people here think they’re fantastic at hiding their intentions. It’s all so obvious to me though, hahahar.” Gar smiled at the thought, but Iva shook her head disapprovingly. She changed the topic.
“Where’s June? That axe you had is much different. Less angelic. Looks nice though.” Gar explained the circumstances of June transferring vessels. He neglected to mention a cyclops however. “Its still the same Junzentaru, just in a different form. As for why it looks so nice, you can thank Aeos’ dad, Yasin for that.”
Iva leaned across the table and spoke to Aeos. “Thank your father for us when you next see him. June is very important to our son.” Ali added to the sentiment as Iva leaned back grabbing a sandwich along the way. “June’s important to us as well. Also give your parents our thanks for that armband that Gar wears. We will have to craft you something in return one of these days.” Gar nodded with his mouth full.
Gar’s father addressed him. “So have you taken care of that Bullring fellow yet?” Iva turned her head to hear the response. “Aye. He’s not a problem for anyone anymore. I managed to develop a new pain in my neck though.” Gar grabbed and took a bite from a second sandwich.
Iva spoke. “That Bullring sure had to go huh? Terrible man. Now what was that about this new pain?” Gar’s mouth was full so he tilted his head to Aeos, giving him the opportunity to explain about the dark pirate nuisance. This was good, since he could omit whatever he needed to about his draconic nature.

Aeos looked on as Gar’s mother greeted him. He saw in her the same sort of joy his own mother got whenever he came home after a long journey. The same sense of joy and relief to know that all mothers seem to have once they confirm that their child is safe and sound. And now that he thought about it there would have been plenty of incidents where either Gar or Aeos could not come home. Incidents that might have cost them their lives or their limbs. He mentally shook himself out of his own head enough to catch the madam’s comment about his looks. Aeos knew what lady killer meant. And he could feel a prickly sensation on his reddening cheeks.
The young dragon never really got to see himself as a handsome individual. He just saw himself as himself. And as his scaly big dragon self. He tended to forget that humans might find his humanoid form attractive and such. Although, he thought himself at this moment to look a little dorky. He was wearing clothes his own mother fashioned for him. His pants now sported mismatched leather patches on both his knees. And had the flower he just picked a bit ago in his front pocket.
“It’s nice to meet you Madam Iva. I’m Aeos.” He introduced himself. He gave her a small smile and returned the hug. Afterwards, he gave her a slight bow. It was just something he knew he had to do when being invited to another’s home. It meant you showed respect to the person who’s resources you were about to share.
“Th-Thank you for inviting me into thy home.” He then turned to look at Gar with a bit of a puzzled expression. And, Aeos felt really dumb for not realizing that Gar was a shorthand for Edgar. He never put much thought into Gar’s name. This world was filled with all types. With all languages. Names mean different things to different people. And he was suddenly really glad Gar didn’t know the name Aeos was a pseudonym. Although, Gar did know that ‘amal was an affectionate nickname. So, he wasn’t sure what was the lesser of those two evils.
Aeos was led inside. The dragon took a moment to admire the inside of the home. It was no sea shack that’s for sure. But, it still had the same charm as any home would. The same warmth, that was the best way he could describe it. Aeos took a quick moment to glance at June. The axe was set down near the entrance. Wish me luck June. He then turned his attention back to the family. Gar’s dad looked a lot like Gar. Only bigger, slightly rounder, and balder. It reminded him how people would comment how Aeos looked like his mom more than his dad. But, he shared more of his dad’s mannerisms and habits then his mom. So there was definitely something of his dad in him despite what the outside might show. This was the second dad he’s met that seemed to be large in terms of body weight. Aeos mentally assured himself that as a late-teen dragon, he probably had no hope of ever obtaining the amazing dad bigness both Alivar and Yasin possessed. Iva took the liberty of introducing Aeos to her husband.
“It’s nice to meet you sir, Alivar.” Aeos returned the handshake with his own. Aeos gave another soft bow. Always be sure to be on your best behavior when in another’s home. He could hear Joury’s voice in his own head. Stand up straight. Look people in the eye. Remember to show respect. Yasin’s voice this time.
“Thank you for the soon to be meal.” He spoke politely. He took a seat next to Iva. Iva made a comment about Gar’s coat. About his scent. Aeos had grown accustomed to Gar’s smell and had gone completely nose blind to smelling anything off. Suddenly, he wondered if he even smelled alright. He had to hope he did. Aeos took the remaining empty seat. A padded chair was a stark contrast to a decorative floor pillow. Aeos served himself a sandwich and took a bite. Remember to eat the food you are given. It is rude to refuse. Joury’s voice again. Aeos did like ham. The sandwich was a welcome meal after the weeks spent out at sea to get here. He was about a quarter of the way through when the comments about both June and the bangle came up. He felt the prickly sensation return to his cheeks.
“Please. It’s not necessary to craft me something in return. I’d... hate to lose it.” He spoke with a slight tint of a somber tone. Then took another bite of the sandwich to change the mood. The two gentleman spoke about Bullring. Gar motioned for Aeos to explain as his mouth was full of food.
“I’m afraid I’m partly responsible for bringing Gar a new pain in the neck.” He sighed.
“A few months ago I was on a boat coming from Vinland to Elibe. That boat was attacked by pirates and I was left stranded out at sea.” He looked down.
“I was out there for weeks. Little food. Little water. Exposed to the elements. Would have died out there had not the currents brought me to Gar’s base.” He closed his eyes for a bit and shook his head.
“Those pirates... were ruthless. As far.. as I know.. I’m the only survivor from the attack. They used dark magic. And I believe them to be a part of something greater. When I explained all this to Gar, he, and June, wanted to find them and bring them to justice.”

Aeos claimed it would not be necessary for the elders to craft something for him. Gar’s father laughed. “You won’t get out of this that easy. ” He reached out with a smile and patted the dragon on the shoulder. Gar’s parents were stubbornly kind. This was something that Gar had gotten used to over the years. Gar just nodded and kept chewing.
Aeos took the opportunity to explain about the current enemy. “They sound like awful beings. I’m relieved you made it out alive. That must’ve been quite traumatic.” Iva shook her head with sad eyes. “Fortunate that you washed up at my son’s base.” Ali added. Aeos explained more about the nature of the dark mage pirates. Overall, it still sounded like Aeos still blamed himself for the events.
Gar shook his head and furrowed his brow. “You’re too hard on yourself mate.” He explained his side to his parents. “I have reason to think that these dark magic pirates were the same ones who attacked my ship before I got captured. Their tactics were too similar for this to be coincidence. I would’ve tried to find them either way. Aeos’ experience just compounds things.” Gar leaned back in the chair.
“I got a message from the man who I think is behind all of this. It led me to believe he was in business with Bullring. It was signed by a Bartholomew. The crew has come to refer to him as Black Bart. Only issue is we haven’t been able to find his base.” Gar’s parents clearly didn’t like the sound of this man. They both had concerned looks on their faces.
“So what’s your plan?” Gar’s father asked the important question.
Gar responded. “Find him and hit him with June until he stops moving.” That was the quick answer. The captain looked to Aeos as he decided to reveal his discovery. “I picked up a book about naval ships back in Khan Yunis. There was a ship, more like a floating fort. Mobile and difficult to find. I think he is on one of those.” Gar’s father rubbed his chin and nodded.
“I’ve heard of those giant ships. Never came across one, but I was a simple merchant. No need for vessels that large in my line of work.” Gar’s mother had heard enough and decided to change the subject.
“That’s enough of this mood killing talk. This should be a happy occasion. Aeos, you say you were coming from Vinland? I’ve been quite interested in that island. How did you like it?”

Of course, Gar would mention that he was being hard on himself. The dragon in human guise couldn't help it. He lived. The rest of the people on the boat died. Died by his hands. Died by the dark pirate hands. It was just a bloody and messy memory he wished he could forget. But, he knew he is stuck living with it forever.
"Before the attack.. before the boat.. before Vinland... back when I was on Elibe... When I last saw Gar, he was without a fort. He shared with me his story of Bullring. And I am both glad and relieved he got his revenge. Imagine my surprise when I woke up and learned he owned the fort I washed up in. Gar's come a long way since we first met." Aeos let out a small smile at that.
"Or should I call you Edgar now that I know the truth." He smirked. Aeos resumed eating the rest of his sandwich as Gar spoke. The captain spoke about a man named Bartholemew and of a ship so large it was its own fortress. Aeos recalled seeing something of that scale built once. But, that memory was from a time when he reached Yasin's hip and possessed shorter hair. He finished the sandwich just in time to respond to Iva's question about Vinland.
"I love it. Vinland's so full of life and diversity. Been there twice so far and spent many months exploring the island on my own. I trekked through the dense tropical jungle, swam in both it's ocean and rivers. Traveled through its own desert wastes. Although.. I probably shouldn't call it a waste. It's similar to my native home of Nabata but different at the same time. Nabata's desert feels like a perpetual beach but the desert of Vinland.. felt like.. looked like how a dry river bed is. But, Bigger. And unlike Nabata it actually experiences rain. Got caught in a thunderstorm in it." He commented. He remembered the dog taguel he shared a tiny cave with. The dragon's mood improved significantly with the talk of Vinland.
"I've met the natives. The taguel. The humans. Met the things the natives eat. Met the things that eat the natives. It's a place of nature both the good and bad parts of it. If you know how to live and respect nature's way, one could live comfortably there. But, it's got its own history too. Like Elibe. I've passed through the jungle and seen some ruins... But, the locals told me to stay away from the ruins. And I am not one to turn down the advice of locals." He remembered the rabbit man and his directions. He remembered Hurtlepool and the city there. He remembered Bee.
"I wish I still had the map I was working on." He sighed. He remembered Neamihean, Anzu, and Locke nearly getting them both killed.
"Lost it in the shipwreck. As well as my journal. And my gifts." He looked down with a bit of a frown. He forgot he lost all those things until just now.
"Dang it. Now that I remember it, I worked hard for the money to buy those gifts too! I bought my mom a really nice piece of fabric she could turn into a skirt. And some practical things for the home." He shook his head. Then picked it back up.
"I guess that gives me another excuse to go back there. The Island's got a mountain range I intend to explore. Did Gar ever mention that Vinland was where we first met? Or what our first adventure was on the island?"

Gar made a face when Aeos commented about his true name. Gar grunted out a response. “Hmph. Not like I was hiding it,‘amal.” Gar didn’t want Aeos to forget that he had name ammunition as well. Gar’s father took the opportunity to add an extra anecdote. He turned to Aeos with a smile on his face.
“I remember when my crew started calling him that. Edgar pretended that he hated it, but the truth was a plain as day. He was so happy, proud that he was accepted. He felt as if he had earned some sort of credibility at sea.” Gar covered his face with his palm and shook his head. It was obviously true so there was no point in denying it. He just wished that it wasn’t a parent’s sole purpose in life to make you seem lame in front of your friends. Ali turned his head to address his son. “But you have more than just credibility now. How you have grown.” Gar removed his hand from his head and met his father’s eyes with a smirk and a small nod.
Iva listened intently to Aeos’ tales of Vinland. “To lose such thoughtful gifts, that is a shame. I wish you better luck on your return trip.” Iva gave Aeos a nod and a sincere smile. Ali rose to take the dishes away from the table.
“Gar did speak of how you met. At the time I believe he referred to you as a ‘desert man who talked strangely, but was courageous and kindhearted.’ He told us how you hunted a boar and fought a monster with your bare hands. You also helped put up a wall for the growing village while our son here lazed about.” Gar exhaled through his nose. He knew that his mother knew he was injured and he wouldn’t have been much help, yet she still chose to phrase it that way to get her son riled up. Iva continued. “I was certainly a fan of your feats. I would love to hear more if you have them.”

Of course he'd bring that up. Then again he doesn't know the real name behind that. Aeos cracked a small smile then shook his head. He returned his attention to Alivar. The older man spoke of a younger Gar and of his secret pride in his name. And then the older man complimented his son on his adventures and of his own personal growth. To which, Aeos gave his companion a firm pat on the shoulder. And this was true, Gar did come a long way since their first adventure in Vinland. A sailor turned captain, turned slave freer, and cyclops killer. And Skeleton killer, adventurer, dragon's best friend, and June's best friend. Aeos turned his head to glance at the holy axe for a moment. I bet you are dying to jump into this lively conversation. The dragon in human guise's attention returned back to the family.
"Children take after their parents. And for that.. both of you Madam Iva and Sir Alivar. Thank You." Aeos got up. And bowed.
"Thank you. Thank You for.. raising up my best friend to the person he is today." Aeos pulled his head back up from the bow and took a seat. It might have seemed like a silly little thing to do but he did it anyway. He would have walked away from this whole encounter feeling weird if he didn't. To bow is a sign of respect 'amal. Gratitude. As Madam Iva spoke of Aeos's deeds the dragon felt his whole face blush. Aeos was clearly not used to such praise. It's been so long since we spoke strangely. He lost a good chunk of his old speech style accent as he traveled the land.
"You want to hear more of my stories?" He asked. When Iva confirmed the request. Aeos tilted his head back a bit and tried to think. He readjusted his position in the chair and relaxed himself a bit.
"I.. I have a couple. Some of these would be before I met Gar." Aeos wasn't going to divulge all of his stories. There was not enough time in the day for him to talk about everything he had done up to this point. But, he decided to talk about three good ones. The first story revolved around Bern. He told her of Euphemious and the challenge to eat every single apple pie in Bern. How he and Euphemious fought bandits in Little Rock and how he kicked a rider off his horse. Then proceeded to use a frying pan as a makeshift weapon.
The next story revolved around Ilia. He spoke of Bee and the archer with the snow white hair. He spoke of the wild wyvern that raided their camp. And he.. had to embellish the truth about the after events. He told them how he got so mad he charged at the wyvern and rode it like a bucking bronco. While Bee distracted it with fire and the snow-haired archer shot it down. That sounded a lot better then what actually happened. He changed into his dragon form and killed the wyvern in a fit of dominance. Nearly froze to death. And had to sit down and explain to Bee everything that just happened.
The last story he spoke of was the desert cave in Nabata. The cave where Gar learned spirits are real and they had emotions. He spoke of the tomb, the trapped spirits, and of the tornado that it generated. He spoke of Oscar the metal toy and of the laugh he had. The spirits were like children to him. Hundreds of little spirits all happy to be free from their sandy prison. He collaborated that one with Gar.
"I have some more but I will save it for next time. How about you two? What stories do you have to share? Gar has told me you were nomads before?"

Gar watched Aeos rise to bow toward his parents. It wasn’t necessary, but Gar could imagine the custom was appreciated. Gar couldn’t really say anything to the genuine moment between Aeos and his parents. Iva elected to speak up though. “That’s sweet of you Aeos.”
Gar listened intently to the stories of Aeos’ past that he hadn’t heard before. He believed he had heard of Euphemious before, maybe Bee as well. Either way, the berserker had to comment on the Nabatan’s wild life. “Ever the adventurer huh?” It seemed like Aeos had even more stories than Gar did himself. Now that he thought about it, Aeos had been around for a much longer time than he had due to his draconic nature. So the disparity in stories made sense. Not to mention that Gar had a lot of down time while sailing.
Time passed and Aeos finished his stories. He then asked to hear of Ali and Iva’s. Ali responded first. “ My tales aren’t nearly as entertaining. I once tried my hand at being a swordsman. I was young and thought that I was going to be a defender of the tribe.” Ali laughed. “I never saw real combat but I still don’t know how I made it out with my life. I fumbled my practice sword once, it landed square on my foot. If it had a real edge I’d have a pegleg like some of my son’s friends.”
Iva spoke next. “Swords didn’t agree very well with my husband. I’m glad he changed career paths and became a merchant. I practiced healing and spells while I was with the tribe. I like to think the natural spirits and I got along fairly well.”
Gar nodded. “I haven’t met a being that didn’t get along with my mother. Spirit, human, I bet she could convince a wight to lay down it’s arms.” Gar chuckled for a moment before stretching his arms above his head.
“Its getting a little late, we still have some preparations to do for the next leg of the trip. Aeos do you want to return to the port tonight or sleep here and get up early?” It was entirely up to the guest in the home. “You’re more than welcome to stay as long as you want.” Ali added for hospitality.

Aeos sheepishly rubbed his head at Gar's comment. It was true. The young dragon did have a nose for adventure. He recalled various bits of his childhood where he would go around the wilds of their desert camp and try to find as many animals as he could. Some harmless. Most of them dangerous and with pointy stingers. He learned quite a bit about nature and her harshness in those times.
"It is fortunate the sword was dull. But, you've carved yourself a way of life with a different type of sword. From my understanding, i've been told merchants.. has its own battles. I've seen some Nabatean merchants get into some pretty mean fist-fights." Aeos spoke then took a sip out of his mug.
"A healer, spiritualist, kindness.. Huh, well now I know where Gar got it from." Another soft smile.
"I wouldn't take any chances against a wight. Those things are lethal." Aeos has had several run-ins with the undead. And all of those times they weren't pretty. He would never forget the sight of that horrible black armored thing that slew all those Saceans. He'd never forget when that thing came back with an army of undead and he was forced to defend himself lest those undead ruin more lives. The dragon had a suspicion that thing was not a wight but something greater. As Aeos conversed, Gar pointed out that it was getting late.
"I thank you for the hospitality.. but, I think I shall return to port. It's been a while since I've been to Badon. And I'm itching to catch up on some nightlife. I do not want to accidentally oversleep and miss the boat due to some overindulgence." Truth be told he wanted to buy some things for the rest of the journey. The ham sandwiches were nice but he really wanted to sink his teeth into some fresh fruit and have a hot meal.

“We would stay longer, but we have to keep a time table if we want to enjoy the celebration in Bern.” Ali and Iva both nodded their heads. They understood that their son and his friend were in the busy times of life. They still had many places to see and many experiences to undertake. The retired couple said their goodbyes to Aeos, June and their son. Gar gathered up his belongings, including a newly washed coat, and headed to the front door. “If ever you need a place to stay or simply want to visit, you are always welcome here.” Iva smiled at the departing people. Ali took one last chance to joke with his son. “And write more if you can. Assuming you still know your letters. Hahahar.” Gar shook his head with a smile. He may spend the majority of his time with illiterate sailors, but he knew how to read and write quite well. Gar gave his parents an embrace before turning and heading back south toward Badon proper. The sun was low in the sky. It would likely be dark before they returned to the port of pirates. It wouldn’t be the safest of walks, but Gar wasn’t worried. It would take a few, quite bold ruffians to approach Gar and Aeos with ill intentions. The captain allowed the thought to fade from his mind.
June was glowing at Gar’s back. Your parents seem to be doing quite well. After hearing about those Arum from that lightning dragon, I’ve grown worried for the people you care about. I’m relieved. On another note, I’m curious as to why you never told me about your mother’s spirituality. Gar shrugged. Never came up I guess. Gar could almost feel June’s exasperation.
You’re the only one who can use spiritual energy to transfer health, not to mention communicate with a literal spirit and you claim your lineage of spirituality hasn’t come up? Gar smirked to himself and responded with a simple, Aye. June already knew of Gar's loose connection to the Chaklai, but the weapon didn't know how deep his spiritual connection truly ran.
Gar began to imagine how his crew was treating the port town. They certainly knew better than to cause a big ruckus, but a few may be foolish enough to get themselves locked up for a night or two. Gar let some air out of his mouth and voiced his concern. “How do you think the crew is doing? I know they’ve been itching to cut loose after all this time at sea. I just hope they don’t get themselves into too much trouble.” Gar may be worrying too much. They were composed enough in Kahn Yunis, but Badon had a different feeling to it. Pirates were welcome, even celebrated at times.
Gar shrugged his shoulders. “We’ll find out soon enough. Anywhere you thinking about stopping by once we get back to town? Like that one place, where we met with Emil and that big guy in red. Before we visited Dread Isle. What was that place called again?” Gar scratched his head.

Aeos thanked both of Gar's parents for their hospitality and support. He promised them he'd do what he could to keep their baby boy safe. Just like Gar did to Aeos' parents. Albeit minus the use of the term Baby Boy. He left the couple with a warm feeling in his chest and a new found admiration for his companion. As the duo walked back into the city Aeos couldn't help but smile at it all. Gar's folks were a lot like his own folks. It doesn't matter if one is man or dragon.. parents are parents.
"You know.. I'm.. going to remember this. The stories. The jokes. Your name being Edgar. My first visit.. to meet my best friends parents." He glanced at Gar.
"They were really nice. And you are really lucky."
He hoped to one day experience the joys and horrors of parenthood after he fully matured of course. And find a female dragon to marry and spend the rest of his days with. He suspected that second part was going to happen a lot later than the first part. Gar expressed some mild concern over his crewmen. Aeos thought for a moment. He had spent months with them at sea already. He knew their names and their habits. And he felt like he was one of them from time to time.
"I imagine, they are getting into all sorts of trouble. We might want to check the jail cells in the morning.. just in case. Although if things were truly grim, you would have gotten a message by now." He thought about the crew some more. He looked around.
"The name of that place.. that was the Sea Serpent." Only reason Aeos remembered that much was because of "the mountain". Things that tended to terrify him tended to linger in his memory.

Gar smiled with a tinge of pride. For of the things for a dragon to remember, Gar would never have guessed his family would be one of them. It gave a sense of validation. "I'm glad my folks left a good impression. Aye, I am lucky to have such great family and friends." Gar nodded reaffirming his statement. The conversation moved on toward the well-being of his crewmates. Gar hoped finding a couple of his mates in cells would be the biggest problem he would have to face.
"The sea serpent. That's right. That feels so long ago now." Gar laughed out loud thinking back. He had experienced so much since then. He had seen more of the world and its problems. Gar turned his head and addressed the weapon clasped on his back. "Even before I met you June." The weapon pulsed a response. I can't imagine how you managed to survive as long as you did without my assistance. Gar smiled to his weapon.
The pair entered Badon once again. It was night, but there was still plenty of life in the port town. Based on the noise level, Gar could assume there were some people well into their cups. The thought was tempting though. It wasn't every day that they would be in Badon. "We do have to leave port tomorrow, but that doesn't mean we can't have a drink right?" Gar was terribly indecisive. He looked to Aeos to see what his feelings were. "What would you like to do?" Perhaps they should get an early start the next day. There would be plenty of celebration in Bern.

"Yeah. I suppose it would feel like a long time. My.. sense of time is a little off. Longevity and all. But, I think.. at least.. two maybe three seasons have passed since then? Might have even been a whole year." He thought about it some more. The shipwreck did a number to his mind and his memory. He was trying to think of other things that happened in between that time. Why is Valor such a blur? He shook his head.
"We've both cheated death.. like.. a lot." He stopped walking for a moment. His eyes and ears took in the sights and sounds of the port town. He then followed Gar again. Aeos remembered all the times he almost came to death. Learning to swim and nearly drowning. Getting chased out of town by angry mobs. The crashes that came with learning to fly. And those were just in his childhood. He excluded all of the misadventures with monsters. The monster in black armor. Vinland. The Shipwreck. The village with all the undead. The dragon in human guise had another pause then turned to look at Gar. A slightly bemused expression on his face.
"As I said before, I will enjoy what nightlife Badon has to offer. That includes drinks. And you are drinking with me. With all of our death dodging, we have earned the right to drink ourselves close to stupid." He'd offer June a drink if he could. Now he had that image in his head. The righteous and rational thinking June. Drunk like a sloshed sailor. What sort of things would the axe say and do? He gave Gar a firm pat on the shoulder.
"The Sea Serpent." He sighed.
"Lots of memories there. I can't believe The Mountain was assigned to be our superior." I wonder if he still lives. He had a bit of a somber expression at that thought.
"Huh, you know.. I don't.. remember where in Badon it was. Was it near the port?"

The pair certainly had their fair share of near death experiences. Between shipwrecks, collapsing caverns, monsters of various breeds and the typical dangers of sailing, they could’ve easily died numerous times. But they were skilled enough, or perhaps lucky enough to handle these situations. Either way, they were still alive to tell the tales of their feats.
A devilish grin crept to Gar’s mouth as his friend patted his shoulder. “Hahar. That settles it, let’s drink mate.” Gar walked with a little more purpose, as if he had a destination in mind. Close to stupid? That can’t be too far away for you. Gar laughed at June’s joke at his expense. He unfortunately couldn’t come up with a quick-witted retort, which only further proved June’s point. Nonetheless, I suggest you leave me behind on this venture of yours. I still haven’t fully adapted to this vessel. To it’s hunger for battle. Your drinking and Xigshaw’s hunger for battle could lead to some poor decision making. Gar nodded, noting his weapon’s concern. The spirit was cautious of Xigshaw’s effect.
“Let me drop June off at the ship first. Don’t want to set the axe down somewhere and forget it. Hahar.” Gar made his way to the ship before he decided to head back out for a night on the town. He left June next to the hammock in his quarters. It would be safe enough there. It wasn’t like anyone else would be strong enough to carry the incredibly heavy weapon anyway. On his way off the ship, the captain responded to Aeos’ question. “I remember the spot well. It’s not waterfront but its close.” Then Aeos brought up the man called the mountain. Sure the guy was big and looked like he could win any fight, but Gar didn’t like the way that man carried himself.
“That guy rubbed me the wrong way. Emil giving that guy the position of quartermaster so simply too… I don’t things would’ve panned out well if I had to take orders from him.” Gar shrugged the thought off. He didn’t particularly want to start the night off in a sour mood about past encounters. He entered the doors of the Sea Serpent and made his way to plop down at the bar. The bartender immediately poured two mugs for the two men. Gar smiled and raised his mug toward Aeos.
