"Do do do do!" Risa dittied to herself while she read from her grandfather's notes. She was lying in bed on her stomach and legs kicking in the air with the tip of a quill in her mouth. So Flora was a new type of magic not invented but rather rediscovered. She hmmed to herself. A master has already appeared wielding it in the north. Growing flowers in Ilia? Why did it have to be a stupid Ilian though?
Risa rolled back over onto her back holding the pages out at arms length. "Hey Gramps!?" She called but found no answer. "Ugh! Happy Birthday to you too Risa! Oh, thanks Grandpa!" She sighed dropping her arms down and scattering the pages on the floor. "Not even any notes on the spell itself in here." She knew her grandfather was an important sage in the world of magical research and it kept him busy, but the fact he was not home for important days was beginning to eat at her.
"Aaaaagh! Fine!" Shooting up into a sitting position Risa decided not to mope around and instead go out to do some research of her own. There was a nest of wyvern eggs she had found recently and it was the time of year for them to hatch, so maybe she could witness it, or get a baby wyvern of her own! How splendid would THAT be? She smiled haughtily to herself as she grabbed her bag and stuffed it with research materials and a snack. Would Gramps let her keep a wyvern? Eh, what did it matter, by the time he would notice it'd be big enough to ride.
In no time at all, she was off out the door and into the city. A pair of local boys, Keith and Birk, took notice of her. Keith gave the other a nudge before the pair approached. "Well, well, well, look who is actually out and about for once. I was starting to make bets you were dead."
Risa ignored Keith and continued walking. "Hey! I didn't mean it to be rude! You just never leave your house, ever." Keith began to follow keeping pace with Risa. Birk reluctantly followed close behind. "Oh, so I have been practicing my magic a lot, I bet I could beat you now."
"That's great, maybe another time, I have somewhere to be right now though." Risa was offering little attention to Keith.
"I told you she would be too scared to have a duel, my flux is just the best flux!" Keith raised his hands in defeat. "Oh well, guess that is my victory by default." His voice and taunts were grating in her ears, and if she did not put him back in his place now she would have to listen to them for an indeterminable time to come.
Stopping in her tracks Risa spun around with an accusatory finger. "FINE THEN!!! If you want a fight that badly I'll give you a fight! Just don't cry like a newborn babe when you're on the ground!" Spreading her feet into a combative stance she produced her spell book.
"Alright!" Keith exclaimed excitedly. Rolling his shoulders he opened his own tome. "May the best man win!"
"Man? But I thought we were both women? Oh! Birk is fighting too?" Risa toyed. Birk smirked in the distance stiffing a laugh while hiding his face.
Come to think of it, was it exactly wise to have a match in the streets? Birk quickly searched for anyone that might yell at them or worse get in the middle and get hurt but there did not seem to be anyone around so he let the two continue.
