Yesterday was a whirlwind of... something or another, to try and put everything into words was not next to impossible but it was certainly like trying to untie a knot held together by iron clamps. Iron clamps that would nip at your fingers if you got too close. Yeah, Aura would do well NOT to tell any of his metaphors aloud, they did not seem to resonate very well with others, or even his own retrospective scrutiny.
Yesterday he got to meet the shaman... er druid Drei but the two shared nary a word. Drei took so much damage too, damage he placed blame on himself for. What was his own broken ribs compared to all that was done to him, shadow blades in his arms, jerked around and possibly more. He knew Ereshkigal set to tending to him but he knew not what all she had achieved. Nor was he able to share with him the soup he had prepared the night before.
He may have been driven greatly by guilt but he truly wished to know the Druid properly and to that end he waited outside the tavern for him in the morning. He woke up early before the sun had risen and waited, but not in total silence. Watching the sunrise was quite pleasing enough and he could use the time to continue practicing his healing skills and further try to grasp the magic of strength. Internalizing the magic within himself was difficult and he often felt as though he would explode his body with it. He needed to learn control or how to siphon it through himself safely if he was to get this right.
After a short bit of practice he felt bloated by the magic and needed to rest and so he took a seat beside the entrance to the inn. "Ooo," he groaned. leaning his right arm on his knee he closed his eyes relaxed until anyone came or went, to which he would then perk up briefly.

Now. Most people were up fairly early. Bright shining sun greeting them with its repulsive rays of horrid harsh light blinding them while they ignorantly smiled and bumbled about their day like the happy mentally dulled sheep that they were. Drei was content to keep the shutters on his room hooked so not a crack of light could escape until he wanted it to, and even then he could languish in the darkness until he deemed otherwise appropriate. The Shaman's honey hued gaze quietly shifted as he combed thin pale digits through silken threads of ashen hair. The shiver of comfort that traversed his spine when he stretched warranted a quiet utterance before the shaman managed to pivot and slide out of his bed. For once he'd slept comfortably and heavily. It just took near death experiences to provide such, who knew? No problem, yeah?
By the time he'd fully awoken, he was sitting atop the bed with folded legs. Palms resting upon his knee's and his mind slipping into the serene bliss that the void offered. By Serene bliss, it might've been better equated to the steady rumblings of the ocean crashing onto rocks while storm clouds gathered above and the tide grew angry yet retained a modicum of manageability. Quietly, the shaman wove his hands betwixt eachother with lacing fingers clasping until finger tips ran parallel. The void responded to his touch and magic writhed to life as tendrils of shadow furled around his extended digits, coiling and collecting. Slowly amassing until he could unfold and separate his hands to generate a floating orb. Within this orb more currents grew until his will sculpted and molded it. Taking that familiar form prior with the spider he'd conjured before slowly morphing into existence.
It took a bit more focus to create, but the shaman conjured it fully before quietly stemming the magic flow into a small trickle that continued its shape. His focus abruptly halted by the rumble of his stomach as hunger asserted itself upon him. Right. Food, then magic. Simple enough. With his mind directing it, the spider quietly skittered up his sleeve until it rested atop his right shoulder. Roughly the size of the average dinner plate, and remarkably real in texture compared to any large furry black spider, it remained fairly dormant as Drei moved to depart from his room and made his way quietly down to the base floor of the inn.

The morning was finally beginning to start in full swing, travelers were now departing and farmers were bringing their goods down to the market. It was not the busiest of villages but to Aura it seemed as though they were giving themselves plenty to do. It was nice, he found. What if he could live a simple and ordinary life like this? If it were possible then maybe he could own his own house and then what? He could set up shop as a healer once he furthered his study and offer his services for both the injured and sick human and beast alike. But there was far too much left to do, Vadis had to be stopped first, and so did Etruria, and there was the mystery of Ereshkigal to solve. Perhaps he could ignore these things but Vadis was certainly his to deal with.
After these musings turned from a happy and comforting line of thoughts he decided it was time for him to back into the tavern and get breakfast. He was admittedly surprised by how late Drei was sleeping, or perhaps just content to hide from the world. He did not know which, the minds of Druids were vastly different from his own he noticed, but he still thought they were just swell... well, he would be certain to never use THAT word with them around. He would be hard pressed to live down that embarrassment he suspected. After the barmaid brought him his food and drink he noticed as Drei began to arrive.
He cut his current sipping short as he tried to call out to him. He had thought it would be a simple call of his name, it was not. Overly excited he jumped and choked on his drink as he pulled it from his lips trying to shout. The ensuing panic saw him spill all over himself and his plate of food. Choking and trying to form words while retaining air he stumbled over his chair hopping on one foot to approach Drei. When he got close enough he paused thoroughly roughed up by his own actions.
"DREI!" He found his voice back before clearing his throat. "Ah, sorry. Drei," He started again. "Good morning. I was wondering if you would perhaps like to chat over some food... my treat." He added feebly at the end realizing how he looked and sounded. All the floundering about did not help his ribs either.

Now, there were many things that Drei might've reacted to in what he saw in the moments that transpired after he descended from his lodging on the upper floor. However that was something he'd taken great pains to hide so often now that were he indeed to have expressed anything, by the time Aura was gazing up at him once more the ashen haired shaman's expression was entirely absent of anything other than a simple plain one. He was quiet for a moment. The soft hissing sounds of the colossal shaddowy spider sitting upon his shoulder making more noise than he ever would to such a scene. He merely pivoted his head as if examining something strange that he would attempt to comprehend. His palms clasped together as the fabrics of his robe sleeves obscured them entirely while he shuddered slightly, a stretch that sent ripples down his spine and raised the hairs on his neck as a sliver of delight traversed his body from the sensation. Still composed though and maintaining the blank mask of a facade, the ashen haired Sacaen took a single step back as Aura approached a tad too close in such a hopping way. A precaution no doubt were he to fall.
When this did not happen, Drei's poise shifted back into place. Food? Ahh yes. That material substance that all humans required to fuel their fires, as it were. Sadly he was one such human that needed this. Though he was not exceptionally picky in this regard as to how he went about obtaining nourishment he knew that it was better to obtain sooner than not. Taking a few moments to ponder the offer, a simple nod was his response before speaking in his normal, reserved tone that was still somewhat quiet and soft from the overwhelming lull of silence he'd been immersed in prior. "Hello, Aura. I believe that would be fine. What is it you wished to speak about?"

"Great," He smiled. Leading Drei back to his table he would let Drei order for himself or let him know what he wanted. Either way, Drei's choice, Aura's purse. As soon as that was sorted Aura could return to the greater scope of the business at hand. "Well, I hope this does not sound too strange but I was mostly just hoping for a chance to get to know you. We all risked our lives yesterday and... you took such a beating... and well... Vadis was only ever after me so I'm sorry for all that happened to you and I would like to ask you for your forgiveness."
Even if Drei was there of his own volition and would have joined the combat regardless Aura felt responsible. Not only was he too weak to help them or heal them he was a burden during the entire event. Oh, and there was another little teeny tiny detail, he was responsible for Vadis becoming the man he is in the first place. Whatever friendship the two of them had in the past it was clearly toxic and dangerous to all of the others that were around them.
With his head hung so low his hair threatened to marinate in his soup he also added, "And if I may be so brazen I would like to ask for your friendship. There are not very many people that can be trusted in this world and if Althea and Ereshkigal can trust in you I would like the chance to do the same." Awkward, dramatic, or completely excitable like a child, so far within less than ten minutes Aura had splendidly showcased two out of three.

The faint tickling sensaion of the spider comprised of darkness incarnate danced along the length of the young shaman's shoulder and brushed against his neck for a moment as the large nether construct shifted about with a sentience deceptive to its existence. The heavy legs, even detailed with small fur like texture extended as it began to crawl down the length of the shaman's arm. Slowly moving at a crawl of a pace while dark shadowy orbs glistened with a subtle sheen. Unblinking, all eight eyes fixed upon the table that was its destination. Drei had taken a seat once guided by Aura, though his arm that the nether construct was attempting to climb was lifted slightly so it was now upside-down and required to combat gravity to adjust itself. More of a subtle gesture by Drei to inconvenience it and test its decision making prowess when objected from its very trivial task. The Shaman blinked quietly at Aura for a moment while this took place, pausing for a moment before quietly speaking with a brief response as simply inquiring after a fairly basic meal.
"I would like two apples, if it pleases. Nothing spectacular."
He hesitated and shifted his arm again. Ensuring the spider was forced to re-ascend up his forearm and back to his shoulder to try and reach the table from another angle. It was slow going for the tiny black thing. At this point his honey stained gaze drifted to the setting around, listening to Aura before turning to comment on the instance with Vadis, a slight shrug following. The faint, subtle his of breath from the spider in imitation of a real ones exertions a small trait he had not expected. The ashen haired shaman's visage devoid of expression, still evidently guarded around others, though this was a norm for him.
"I..will answer that which you ask. Do not ask for forgiveness however. You are not at fault, for there is no way you could anticipate such things. The injuries I sustain when knowingly entering in combat are none's fault but my own. Ereshkigal did a deceptively excellent job mending my injuries. It is a minor inconvenience. "
He paused. The hairs of his neck raising as the spider attempted to crawl along the back of his neck and move to his un-shifted shoulder. Though the shiver traversed the length of his spine he suppressed the majority of the shudder. His head pivoted as he examined Aura curiously. His right hand now lowering and resting atop the tale alone. In part for comfort, and in part to see if the small construct would take notice that the arm it had now departed was an effective bridge to its goal. The shaman spoke again, now allowing curiosity to stain his tone. Though measured. Reserved.
"I can not say that I would openly trust so willingly, but for what merrit it is worth you are not a crass individual and do not seem overly abrasive. My trust and friendship with Althea, and Ereshkigal comes from a fair measured number of tribulations alongside her. Ereshkigal I do not speak as boldly for, but that is not to say I oppose the notion. It may simply take time. I...do not readily trust."
What he was however, was far more talkative than he'd been in some time. How strange of him. Was it the near death experience still reeling within? Had it caused him to break away from his norm some? Perhaps it would settle in time, or perhaps he'd have to get used to rampantly rambling. Either way, he would simply remain true to himself.

Aura had to stifle a laugh as Drei made his request. Two apples? That's it? That was nothing! He could go pluck those off a tree! But a man wants what a man wants and so Aura obliged. His eyes followed the spider anytime it came into his view. It was fascinating, distracting and mesmerizing. He could identify it easily enough as some sort of magic but just what tome he read it out of he could not say. Still, he was mighty impressed by it. Was it acting on its own? Or was this some test of control by Drei? Either way, he wanted to know how to do it himself.
Aura did not say anything more, nor did he make any effort to refute Drei's feelings on the matter, if it was how he felt, then surely he was entitled to those feelings. But even if he would not try to rob him of them it did not equate to being in abject agreement either. His hand twitched ever so slightly when he said he was not at fault. His nails slightly scrapping the old wooden table, a small splinter catching under his nail.
Those wounds could not have been a 'minor' inconvenience. No way. Unless Ereshkigal's healing truly was so spectacular... actually it might just have been if it was anything like her dark power. But to call it an inconvenience implied he still hurt in some fashion, and that was his fault whether Drei conceded to that fact or not. It was a fact in Aura's mind.
"You say I don't need to apologize so I'll just say thank you then. You stayed when I would have ran." He looked away from the man in front of him ashamed. "And I won't ask you to trust me too readily. The need for caution is a wise one." And he wouldn't trust himself. If Drei knew what he had done he would probably lump him in with Vadis. "And, on the matter of Ereshkigal... she and I spoke at length last night. On her behalf I would like to ask you to be kind to her. She might not show it but she's hurting inside..." He then considered some possibilities and added quickly, "But don't say I told you that."

The golden haired male was very...perplexing. Not in his initial rebuttal but the following expulsion of sentiment for Ereshkigal. Drei shifted his head quietly, now absently lifting his opposing arm. The spider had already inched its way to his elbow by the time he held the hand skywards. Though a poor choice of pathing on its end resulted in it sticking to its primary choice and continuing a now sluggish ascent up his arm. Drei's shift in posture did little to change his lack of acknowledgement of it, simply blinking quietly to Aura while Drei's right hand clasped at one of the large red apples provided by the other. Was he concerned for Ereshkigal? How odd. To speak on her behalf. Though he'd never professed to be anything special at perceiving true comprehension of other's. Something he'd found kinship with Althea in, and to an extent Ereshkigal as well. Drei's tone as reserved as ever, speaking with an almost simple factual tone to it while he pivoted his torso and quietly rubbed his thumb around the smooth crimson skin of the fruit ensnared in his palm.
"She is hurting inside, and I do not believe she is able to adequately mask it. I do not think however, she truly wants to either. We spoke at length while she was mending my wounds and repairing the damage to the town. I trust her as I would Althea. Though they are two very different individuals they are both equally important. I would not show cruelty to one who has not earned it, much less either of them. Althea has saved my life, or helped me manage out of many situations I very well would have died in. Ereshkigal seems to continue this trend. If there is anyone in this world I could place my genuine trust in, it would be either of them. They may be two of the few people in all of Elibe that have my complete loyalty. "
Why was he so talkative lately? Even when meeting Althea for the first time she had some how goaded far more conversation from him then possible. Bringing her up seemed to still rouse that same phenomena. The sacaen shaman quietly clasped the apple betwixt pale digits tighter, shifting it and examining it in his grip quietly. Silent in reflection. Ever since the incident in Etruria he was quite used to traveling alone, save a brief travel with Mila and small odd jobs here or there for money. Althea had been the only traveling companion he'd followed at such length. The shaman didn't quite know how to process that or what to think of it. He turned an idle gaze back to Aura before pivoting his head again in a quizzical expression.
"If I can ask, what evoked the notion that I would show her anything contrary to kindness? I'm simply curious."
The spider had almost reached his forearm. The Shaman moved his arm once more, bridging it to his scalp and quietly weaving fingers through ashen strands to stretch his neck with pressure to the back of his head. A brief and plesant release of tension as his neck popped quietly sent shivers down his spine, before the spider's legs began to apply weight to his neck as well; now going in a full circle with beady eyes fixed on the apple in his hand as it moved behind him once more.

Aura was growing all too accustomed to people that did not hold onto emotion and just continued to speak entirely upon facts and theoretical conjecture. So the tones that Drei almost seemed to strictly hold himself to were nothing new. But his words were interesting at least. It did not surprise him to find that the Druid had spent more time with Althea than he had and it should have come as no surprise he and Ereshkigal had spoken at length and yet the latter did. Then again Ereshkigal did take quite a lot of time getting back to the inn. Eh.
Just the same it would appear that the two of them shared common grounds in their trust in Althea. Drei was cautious of Ereshkigal but no less trusting it would seem while Aura had decided to trust Ereshkigal completely. A choice he never considered he might live to regret. So after Drei was finished speaking his piece Aura sheepishly rubbed the back of his head. Had he gotten to know more about the Druid ahead of time then he’d have realized how silly his statement would have been.
“Uh, well... she’s obviously not something normal or entirely human. For most I imagine it’d be all too easy to write her off like some kind of demon. But after talking with her she honestly feels more human to me than many real humans I know.” Perhaps in a way even more so than Althea. Perhaps it was foolish projection of something he wanted to see but he felt he had more in common with Ereshkigal than Althea in truth. “I’m sorry if it sounds like an insult. I really didn’t mean anything by it. I just-“ think she’s lonely.

Drei tapped his finger to his chin for a moment, the left arm doing such as he pivoted his head in thought. Something he'd only picked up subconsciously of late. It retracted only for him to turn his quizzical gaze back to Aura as he spoke of Ereshkigal. Drei nodded in agreement. Quietly articulating his thoughts thus far, operating on honesty as he'd deemed the appropriate path in interactions with both Althea and Ereshkigal prior. Perhaps both had been positive influences on him in ways he could not determine? The Shaman was ever aware as he spoke of the shadowy spider now moving for his right shoulder and quietly flipped the apple with a dexterous flourish of his palm to his left hand before he began to speak.
"I can understand the sentiment. I do believe I can see your point. Though I would never consider her anything less than Ereshkigal. Someone who has shown me profound kindness, and sincerity as far as I can tell. She has both my respect, and trust thus far. I-"
He paused abruptly. Reflective gaze drifting to the apple. Contemplating. Processing and trying to adequately decide how much to divulge. Althea trusted Aura, and Ereshkigal seemed to as well. He would open up somewhat, though not entirely. At-least opening up on mutual aspects would lay effective foundations for a bridge. "I do not have many individuals I am close to. In earnest, that has been a constant. Through two chance meetings with Althea, both that became situations in which we had to trust our lives to one another, and the conversations that followed along with future trials I can genuinely call her a close friend. Though I suspect my perceptions of close is less of a term correlating to ones physical location, speaking more so of the bond of comrades. There are many aspects that I believe we understand one another on. To this extent..I feel as if Ereshkigal has correlating understandings to those that Althea may not. They share one body, but I can say I consider them two individuals, and to that extent I think she has a greater depth and understanding, as you say, about humanity than most humans. Her age should not factor. Her perceptions should. "
He paused. Briefly thinking back to those he had lost. Those, he could yet save. He inhaled quietly and looked ahead.
"The world has treated me poorly. Until I met Althea. Until I met Ereshkigal, and until I met you. Our bond may improve in time, but when I consider something close to me, I will let nothing harm it if it is within my power to prevent it. This world is far to fond of casting aside that which it does not understand."
He quietly gestured to the shadowy spider. Who had hissed with a huff of irritation at the relocation of its shiny red fruity jewel. Drei's tone was still reserved, if not stained with a hint of sincerity instead of calculated restraint.
"Those who brandish Elder Magic are often looked down upon. As such, I will never think poorly upon someone, much less someone who has gone to such lengths to aid me, because of any perceptions as to their corporeal appearance. You meant no offense, and I took none. Now however, you know and that is all one can ask. I will never treat Althea, nor Ereshkigal, with anything less than sincerity and the kindness they have earned. Provided nothing changes there is a very good chance the same will be said for you in time."

Aura continued to follow the little spider's progress with the occasional errant glances. Poor thing, he thought for the briefest moment. It seemed almost as though Drei were toying with it but really it was not sentient... maybe? Aura assumed it was not but he was beginning to wonder about that. He made a mental note to inquire further.
The more Drei spoke it began to become clear that Drei would make friends with an entombed if it were so inclined to be civil and friendly. He found himself appreciating that fact even if he had his doubts he would actually be fine letting such a creature exist, let alone make friends with it. Without letting himself show it though he made a quick mental note that Drei was a very literal person. He need not explain closeness with someone not being the literal variant over the figurative one but... he smiled respectfully and listened anyway. Were all shamans so filled with such quirks? Or just the ones that seemed to flock to him? Or Althea rather, she was the common thread here. Wait... what did that say about him? Oh no...
So the world was a poor companion to Drei huh? Aura folded his hands and gave his outward attentions to the spider while keeping his ears trained on the speaker. "But, what if that person deserved to be hated? Deserved to die whether they wronged you or not?" What could be passed off as a philosophical question was a multilayered one. It was partially, well, mostly an indirect way of asking about himself, fishing if you will to see if it was safe to tell him more. "And well, as far as elder magic is concerned, I... I don't think I can personally use it, not for a lack of ability but I might already be too damaged by it. All of my memories from before maybe three months ago are gone... so in a way, you and Althea are the first people to be kind to me as well." he gave a toothy grin. Making friends? Yeah!?

Aura's question drew Drei's direct attention now. Quietly, he gazed towards Aura. The spider was still slowly striding across the conjuring shaman's upper arm. Down to the elbow. The forearm, and shiny red apple dangerously close in approach if it could but serve to launch from the forearm. Now only to get there...
Drei paused. What if someone deserved to be hated? Drei's prior expression quietly retreated beneath his composure. Personal opinion, was something that stained sentiment. Emotion clouded every aspect of logic. Him and Althea had broached on that at one point, and the conversation had proven that his emotional investment in some aspects could still serve to cloud his own judgement. The ashen haired shaman inhaled quietly, deeply through the nose and quietly out through the mouth in one drawn out exhalation. He quietly extended his palm with it shifting the apple as he cast his gaze to it. Squinting quietly, and speaking after hesitance to expound his thoughts silently. "There are those that deserve to be hated. Those that deserve to die. I never professed that I did not wish to strike others down, but simply that I would never judge poorly upon those who have done right by me. Though...elder magic does seem to have its cost..doesn't it?"
He reflected on his own drawbacks. Over exertions. He remembered the wagon ride when long conversation had substituted for all other stimulation while he'd been rendered too exhausted to actually move or do much. How his body had ached beyond all recollection. At-least, that time, he'd been able to recollect it. He finally took a moment to sink his teeth into the red skin of the apple. Biting down into it with a hearty sink as teeth tore into the fruit with voracious hunger. The near defeated huff of the spider blatantly audible. Drei's gaze darted to it from his point of view to the tiny sable bael. He collected and processed his thoughts as he chewed upon the apple before expounding his thoughts further. "Elder Magic, among all magics seems to draw upon it the heaviest of tolls. It burdens not just the body, but soul and can alter or sunder the mind and spirit alike. Assail one in ways no other can. However..."
He thought to Ereshkigal's words, and Althea's prior. Quietly shifting in his chair before continuing.
"It is very possible we only know one very real facet of that which could provide infinitely more, than any who have dared to imagine. It may just be that only now the right minds arise to imagine otherwise. "

Alright, so Drei DID still feel hate, just not any sort of prejudicial judgement. Was Drei better than him in that way? Yes, Aura relented that he might just be. It made him wonder just what kind of person would drive him to such a hatred. Judging from his words there were those on his list. That said he did not feel quite ready to tell him of his storied but hazy history.
As Drei spoke on matters of magic and the minds that delved into them Aura felt a spark igniting. He had a real love of magical theory! "Now that you mention it I feel the same way in regards to magic. I am probably wrong but from what I can tell, my personal theory, and easily one that would put the church into an uproar, whats new though right? Is that light magic is something that comes from within, man's magic if you will, while anima is something that comes from without, aided by the spirits of nature, and finally dark, or elder magic, is something that might just come from beyond." He was a motormouth. "See though I have one problem with my own theory already in that if you look at staff magic, that seems to be manipulation of magic that is channeled from a person. If light is also from a person then why are the two practices not one in the same... then again both are regarded highly in the church." Maybe he was on to something with that? "And if you take into consideration the almost mystic power that many warriors tap into on occasion it makes me think, what if that too is a sort of magic that we have yet to recognize." He sighed, "But if spirits bound to weapons through alchemy can show traits of all kinds of magic without actually being of that nature, such as a man's spirit bringing darkness then the nature of things is muddled further."

Staff magic. He had almost no knowledge of it, and wasn't quite sure he would ever. He made no attempt to hide this. His hand lifting quietly as the small spider now clung to the under side of his forearm. The faint hiss like huffs as it tried to move punctuated by brief intermissions in which it affirmed its position or re-positioned itself as needed. Tiny black beady eyes drank in the sight of everything at once. Like small dark orbs that all light vanished within. The spider turned. Pivoted. Adjusted. Trying to succeed as its owner only lifted his hand further. Speaking quietly after a moment, Drei explained his thoughts rather pointedly even as his amber hued gaze turned back to the struggling familiar. Perhaps if he allocated more magic into it, it'd be more...mobile?
"I won't pretend to understand the workings of staves. I've known others that are practiced in it, but I've never had any inclination to attempt with a proficiency beyond Elder magic. Communion with one source of power is enough for me. Though the catalyst and medium for magic will always, and ever be variables to some degree depending on the type of power. I suppose, to a degree, one could theoretically equate the physical body and exertions beyond traditional limits as similar comparisons. Though there is a more defined, and physical comprehension behind that due to it's very palpable, and corporeal nature. As opposed to a less defined or conformable instance with spirits, and essence or energy wielded by another. Often relying on supposition and testimony or perception alone. "
He shrugged quietly. Then lifted his opposing hand and let his finger tips spread. Tendrils of darkness exuding from pale digits and infusing within the spider. Quietly fueling it as it began to slowly grow a few inches larger in size. Drei's gaze entirely fixated on it, and at-least part of his attention diverted to his living experiment of sorts.

"Huh." It was about all Aura could muster to verbally say about Drei's summations. Still, if there was something corporeal about what warriors could channel then maybe it was not magic after all. But, even still, what would someone call or describe it as besides? Intriguing questions and theory ultimately for another time. His interest in it was true, perhaps he would pursue it himself but for now...
Drei was obviously interested in his new spider companion and the curiosity had long since taken Aura as well. "So, what is with the spider? I don't think I have ever seen such fine control over magic, to shape it and make it move like a real creature." Especially when distracted by conversations. No, that was more than fine control, or Drei was simply a prodigy, either way Aura wanted to know.
Watching the spider was mesmerizing, heck, he could do it all day!
