"Ah..." Well, now she seemed to be feeling guilty by her response. Darn it Vin, what are you doing? Ma always told him to never make a woman upset! Ma? Man, now Reed was getting him to think like he talked. "Oh, blast me!" Vincent swore. "I assumed you both knew my name since you recognized me. My name is Vincent, and feel free to drop the whole Sir part. I work for a living!" He made a jest and realized the other two probably would not get it and just awkwardly coughed into his hand.
Vincent listened to Reed's plight with a respectful silence and took it in with a hmm at the end. "Well, if you need help getting all your stuff around, my horse is as good as any. I tried to get into being a merchant for a time but that... just wasn't working out. But I used to be a farm kid myself, so I know a thing or two if you need it."
Then onto Midori's comments on Hero City. "Its not as fancy as you might think it is kid, but its pretty nice, and after the siege it needed work but its become a bit of a melting pot. Its pretty great." He felt a touch of pride in the city he had not realized he had. Maybe that's what happens when you help rebuild and make it home. Looking past the kid to address Midori he added, "Its a shame we never crossed paths then, but I thank you for your efforts. I think you'd be impressed to see how far its come along."

Whenever Reed talked about his horse, he felt like a parent talking about a prodigy child. Then again, it wouldn't be too inaccurate to say that: he had taken great care of her as a foal. Everything that Gracie had learned had been from her young master: notably breaking her in to ride and how to not be afraid of the sound of clashing metal or wood. She had grown into a fine steed with a gentle and warrior-like side to her. "Yup, Gracie's my horse. Girl's got a lovin' heart 'n a fierce kick, she does! Raised 'er myself, 'n though she can be a bit difficult at times, I love 'er like I love my lil' sister. Wouldn't trade 'er for the world, heh... F-Figureatively, of course. I'd be in a mighty troublin' fix if I had to take my pick," the boy answered with a sheepish grin. The Overo-patterned steed was a well-trained, almost knightly beast carrying a simple farmer with a pitchfork: a match that would have some believe that the poor Arkyan has somehow sold a lot to obtain her. In reality, however, it might have been simple luck that her pedigree was high.
Vincent's (now that he knew his name further than "the Heelcutter") revelation of being raised on a farm was ever-so-exciting to the aspiring warrior. Never before had he envisioned that a great hero like the Heelcutter had humble beginnings on a farm! "Wow... I-I mean, I thank ya kindly, Mister Vincent, but I should be doin' okay as I am. Pa 'n I hook up a lil' cart to take the crops to the market, but I'll try to find ya if we need an extra hand 'round the farm!" the short 15 year old said with a slight nod. "Hmm... But y'all know that City-a Heroes pretty darn well, right? Always been curious 'bout that place... Is it anythin' like Bulgar?

"It is a pleasure to meet you again Vincent." Don't say sir. Midori quietly caught herself before the made the moment awkward. The young priestess then returned her attention back to Reed. From the sounds of it he was quite proud of his horse. And apparently, he had raised her as a foal. Something that Midori never got to experience with Ashes. Ashes was gifted to her from a horse breeder. The priestess had saved his life with her healing staff. Ashes was a filly then, probably about two years old.
"I got my horse Ashes when she was a filly. Although that was about six years ago." Midori counted that on her fingers just to be sure. The priestess took a moment to look back at those first few years. She recalled all of the times she was thrown off Ashes. Slid off Ashes because she failed to saddle her properly. The times she was bitten by Ashes. Shoved. Pushed. And flung into the mud. She remembered the exact day she learned that mud and muck were nothing to be afraid of. Cleanliness is next to holiness but at the same time what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. She had a soft smile on her face. That was what Lady Lucy had told her when she was thrown into the mud due to Ashes sensing Midori's nerves.
"You wouldn't know it now. But, I had such a difficult time with her in the very beginning. I had no experience with horses before that. Most of my duties at that time were tied to the temple. Fortunately, the tribe gave me a mentor and I slowly learned how to ride and care for her." She made a motion back towards the other three members of the Chaklai back at the table. Midori was Mildly surprised to learn that the infamous heel cutter not only had a horse, but, he once thought of becoming a merchant. Midori knew little of the merchant life save for being a customer at one of their stalls.
"You do not need to thank me Vincent. It is the duty of the Chaklai to help those who are in need. Although, I do look forward to seeing the City again. And to catch up with those members we left behind."

While the small talk was fun it did not appear as though it would go anywhere anytime soon, and that meant it was up to Vincent to try and steer it another way. Or he could just leave since he had already finished his meal so... “Well, it’s a tad too late to reach the next town over today but I’ll leaving first thing in the morning; heading to the City of Heroes before going back to Cornwell, so if you need an extra guard by chance then I’d be happy to lend my services. So, he had to self promote but he’d be a fool to not at least make an attempt at such an easy payday right? As the hero stood he slung his blade over his back and his bag over his shoulder before producing a fistful of coins from his coin purse. “This should cover it:”
“Oh, no, it’s on the house remember?” The barkeep reminded Vincent.
“I know, this isn’t for my meal, it’s for theirs.” Vincent nodded in the direction of Reed and Midori. “Unless of course you want to let them eat on the house too?” It was far less a challenge and more of a playful jab but it seemed to put the barkeep into a brief dilemma. Sheesh, people need to be less serious sometimes, he gets enough of that on jobs, and inter family dramas.
The barkeep nodded scooping up the coins and noted that it did indeed cover the group as a whole. Alright then, good.
“You all have yourselves a fine evening then.” He offered them a wide grin before going to make his way to his lodgings.

"Huh. Had a bit-a trouble with yer horse? Heh, well at least ya learned one way or another! 'S good that ya had someone to teach ya. Pa's gone 'n taught me all he knew when I was small enough to fit in his pocket, 'n now I'm the one teachin' 'im how to ride his own!" the amateur rider had joked as he leaned against the counter. Though it was true that Reed's father was his instructor for most of his talents and dreams, the only aspect of his ideal future that the rural boy had yet to best his teacher in was combat. It shouldn't have been very surprising that the master lance fighter could even best his pupil when he was not standing on his own two legs, but the fact that his father was a better cavalier than his son despite no intense training of mounted combat and strategy was surprising enough to catch him off-guard initially. He had stopped thinking about his father's aptitude after being cleanly knocked off of Gracie for the seventh time anyways. Oh, the things that an idol or role model could do to shape a boy into a man... Clearly Midori either had a lot less troubles when it came to learning how to ride, or simply a better way of hiding the hardship that comes with taming an equestrian companion.
As Vincent addressed the two and proceeded to drop payment for their meals down onto the counter, the curly-haired farmer immediately sprung off of his seat and tried to attract his attention once more. "Oh, uh, M-Mister Vincent! Do you, uh... Maybe s'pose you can wait 'till maybe the day after tomorrow for that big trip to the City-a Heroes? I'd be honored to follow ya to the place, but I can't just up and let Ma 'n Pa 'n Beth go wonderin' where I've gone to, y'know?" he asked, scratching the back of his head with an anxious giggle. After all, who was he to ask a practical legend in the area to guard a completely green squire who could barely keep a solid grip on his lance with every thrust and swipe? The Arkyan broke out in a cold sweat just imagining if he would be a disappointment or dead weight should he be permitted to accompany the hero. "I ain't got much, b-but I betcha I could scrounge up enough to pay ya handsomely for the troubles!~"

"I'd be more than happy to give you help with your horse. Vincent, sir." Curses. Midori felt her cheeks flush red with embarrassment. Nope, she couldn't just drop the formalities. She turned her head and took a good hard look at the plate of food in front of her. Relax. She took a breath in. Savored the scent of food. And slowly let it out. As she was regaining her composure from her little flub the heel cutter, in his generosity, agreed to pay for their meals. Now, Midori was grateful for the gesture, and she knew she needed to repay it in kind. Fortunately, Reed managed to get a hold of him before he stepped foot out of the pub. It seemed the young lad was interested in traveling with the heel cutter. Midori glanced back at her two companions at sitting at their own tables. The priestess lets out a sigh and got up. She approached the pair of young men.
"Uhm. Actually, I was going to ask something similar. It seems we all share a common destination. I invite you both to travel with us. We could use a little extra muscle and we can provide food and comfortable camps for the journey." Midori's gesture was polite and respectable. She kept her hands quietly over stomach and tried to make herself seem professional. Remember where your eyes should be Midori. She wasn't making eye contact with either gentleman. She was instead focusing her gaze on their cheeks. In her culture, it is impolite for a woman to make direct eye contact unless the situation is serious. Or, if she is 100% comfortable with the man in question.
"We can make preparations to leave the day after tomorrow if need be. Uhm, that's if, you accept." --
OOC- sorry that took WAY too long. Hit a hard writer's block with Midori.

First Reed, then Midori, it seemed that everyone wanted to travel with him back to the City of Heroes. Looking down the hall that led to the stairs up Vincent grinned to himself before composing and looking back to the expectant pair. "Hmm, well I don't have anything to do tomorrow and time is money as they say, but, since you asked so nicely with that sir bit I think I can afford to wait." He gave Midori a wide teasing grin before firmly putting his hands on his hips.
"And Reed, I could really use some exercise, so if you're going to be spending tomorrow waiting for someone to show up what do you think of showing me what you've got with that lance of yours?" He crossed his arms now with his weight shifting to his right leg.
Looking back to Midori once more he cupped his chin trying to look inquisitive. She was avoiding his gaze and kept herself VERY prim and proper, maybe her guardians would not approve of him but he had to try and get her to relax some. He moved his head around to try and make her eyes lock onto his. "I'm just a mercenary and farmer, you don't have to be so formal with me. Feel free to just relax and throw your arms up or whatever."

The boy couldn't help but give Midori an easygoing grin. The more the merrier, right? Though having the opportunity to travel with a local legend such as the Heelcutter is an irrefusible offer in itself, having the Troubadour there would make things even sweeter for the squire. Having a magic user in the group would certainly keep him engaged throughout the entire trip. Between possibly learning many things from a hero and hearing all about how magic works, such a makeshift caravan would be a dream to travel in for the farmer. Then again, it wasn't like he had much to offer himself in such a situation. Vincent stating he was also of a rural upbringing ruled out his uniqueness card, which left him with only his knowledge about horses. Speaking of horses, hopefully Gracie would be in a better mood to set out when the day came should he approve of it.
Not only did Reed receive the OK to travel with the group, but the challenge to test his skill with a lance brought a bashful blush to spread across his dirty and scraped face. "Huh? W-Wait, yer askin' if I could spar with ya?! Eh heh... W-With all due respect, Mister Vincent, I ain't nothin' special. Shucks, it'd be a downright dream to have a chance to fight against ya! But, uh... Just don't go expectin' too much-a me, see? Gracie'll do her best, but that means I'm gonna need some extra support buckles on my saddle!" he explained, chuckling as he ran his left hand through his curly ginger locks. Without thinking, his gaze drifted to Midori. Had he been neglecting her possible presence? It was apparent that she couldn't fight, that was true, but it was hard to offer much when she couldn't spar. Then again, offering his hospitality was customary for the Arkyan squire. "Well, uh... If Sir Heelcutter's comin' over, you can come over too! Maybe y'all could stay for dinner even. Ma's been makin' some darn good food, 'n Beth likes it when I bring company. Whaddaya say?"
